Highly disappointed in the mediocre and unorganized services I received today. I had a private spa party reservation and they joined 2 parties in the same sitting area even after filling out a Covid waiver (strike 1, no social distancing), the massage I received was mediocre and not worth the money spent (strike 2), there was barely any light in the lounge area and when we asked for light they gave us some battery operated dim lanterns (strike 3), ( strike 4 ) was how unorganized they were and THEN I had to ask for my parties cocktails that were supposed to come with the meal. That was my 2nd spa party and I was disappointed in the service so much I will not return again and do not recommend this spa to anyone. read more

Very chill spot! Got a nice deal online so I decided to try this place out with my boyfriend for his birthday. Sort of smaller than I expected, only one jacuzzi and the steam room sauna was a bit smelly. Turkish suana was great we actually really enjoyed that one and how quiet it was which was not the case In the wet lounge, sort of loud everywhere else. I came here yesterday to surprise my friend for her birthday. We loved it! We didn't partake in any of the massages which is why I can't rate it a 5 but I plan on coming back and doing so. The customer service sucks. The water was a little chilly, we asked twice to heat up the sauna but to no avail. We want wanted place a order for a drink and it was so dark so we stood in the light to see the menu and one of the females said with attitude that we couldn't block the bar area and she will come to us to take our order but she never came over to us. This place is UNSAFE FOR TRANS FOLKS-- that is why I feel it warrants a one star. I went here for a couples massage with my trans wife. I am nonbinary trans person myself. The masseuses were very kind and non judgmental, but I cannot say the same thing for the front of house staff. After we had both entered the woman's dressing room and began changing, a staff member followed us in and asked "excuse me, are you female and male?" We were so taken aback by that question-- because the answer is no, and we were both in the changing room we felt most comfortable in. But I answered "um, female and female" out of fear of outing ourselves and being discriminated upon. The staff member replied "okay good because I know if a woman came in here and saw a male she would freak out". This interaction was super uncomfortable and made especially my wife feel so unsafe. I planned a Birthday spa evening for my boyfriend and it was a wonderful experience. We had a couples massage in the VIP suite which the package included a bottle a champagne and dinner. The VIP suite is very nice and romantic. You can stream your own music there is a TV, jacuzzi and steam room. Our masseuses were EXCELLENT with Linsey and Richard Donagen, we can't wait to return just to receive massages. The facility is very nice there is a wet lounge with a large jacuzzi, pool, saunas and showers. The lounge has a beautiful fireplace, comfortable lounge seating, bar and cafe. Half of these reviews must be fake. Some of them straight up apply to things that don't exist here. There is no possible way that this many people can praise this place. If you have any sense of size, service, or how much something should cost, you won't like it here very much. Disclaimer: I've never been to a place like this before. I've gotten massages and been to hot tub places, and country clubs, but never to a dedicated spa-type place that seemingly popular among my peers. My girlfriend and I won tickets here in a benefit auction so we were excited our money at least went to a good cause. She's been to Spa Castle in Queens and the Russian/Turkish Baths in the city, and I was excited about checking a place like this out and relaxing in some hot tubs and steam rooms. Unfortunately we were both pretty disappointed in nearly every aspect of our experience here. We get in and I didn't bring a bathing suit because I heard you can get a cheap disposable one there. She handed me what was basically a black hair net that covers your junk. The only problem was that it was completely see through! For real, you could see my whole wiener. Balls too, probably. I feel bad for the 2 bachelorette/baby shower parties that were occupying the space on this lovely snowy Sunday who had to see me walking around all smug with my transparent potato sack around my waist, PP at center stage. So we get in and here's what we deal with during our couple hours there: - All in all, the wet spa space is way too small. You're literally on top of people if you want to use the facilities. There is one very small hot tub that fit literally 6 people if they were all want to sit down. It was only 99 degrees, according to the thermometer. That's not hot enough, in my opinion. There's also a cold tub but that's just for jumping into and jumping out of. It's alright that the cold one is small. - Overall it seemed like everyone was there to catch up with one another. Over the course of the day we had to hear about people's poor credit scores, ex-husbands, yoga, and mediocre massages. We couldn't get away and enjoy the silence or relax when we had to hear people make small talk everywhere we went. - The two dry rooms: one was not hot enough and the other was way too hot. We got to see one of the ladies from one of the two bachelorette/bridal shower parties practicing her Yoga techniques on the floor, rendering half of the space useless for others to sit without touching her. It took up half of the floor space. Then her friend came in and they got right to chatting about the other one's "okay" massages that she had just returned from. - Steam room was nice. Too bad we were cornered in there with a guy who wanted to talk to us about his recent trip to Connecticut. Not here to make friends, bruh. - Top shelf liquor, huh? I'm not sure they know what types of liquor cabinets they're familiar with but this set of shelves apparently belonged to a cross between a sorority girl and an old Jewish lady from Florida. - When we were done I got into the locker room I noticed my towel wasn't really that clean. It has brown marks on it from who knows what. It may have been washed, but it clearly was not bleached. Grossa. As for the service, we stood at the bar TWICE for over 10 minutes before the bartender helped us. Mind you the punk rock white girl manager with the steer-ring walked by like 4 times seeing us waiting and never offered any help. Another staffer walked up with her iPhone headphones in, looked right at us, went to pour herself some water out of the basin that we were standing in front of. When she realized it was empty, instead of filling it up she walked to another one and got water for herself. Are you fucking kidding me? Bartender finally came back and literally took 5 minutes to make a mimosa. It's two ingredients. Maybe it took all that time to climb all the way up to that super high top shelf... Do yourself a favor, BBB owner: Try again. Invest a little bit more money and your place will be way more inviting. If you had a larger hot tub and some enforcement of, "this is a quiet place to relax, maybe it would appeal more to the masses with simple things that people appreciate. Your establishment could be great, but the experience can only be related to getting a good steak that was really poorly seasoned. I would give them NEGATIVE 100 stars if I could. I have never been to spa that is managed more poorly and unprofessionally as Body by Brooklyn. After reading the horrific reviews, I called the manager, Craig, and he swore to me they had changed and promised to give my girlfriends the most amazing day. I decided to try it out as there aren't many options for spa in Brooklyn - but it was just chaos from the minute we arrived. The staff is rude and unprofessional - they have no idea what good service looks like. While waiting for our massages, we met several other clients who were fuming about the service and being told that they accidentally double-booked. In the end, the manager, Craig, started screaming at our group. We were already very upset, but no matter there is no reason for a manager to start screaming at clients in front of other clients. Don't trust the management when they say that they've renovated and improved. if they really did improve, they should be going to each bad yelp reviewer and inviting then back to try out their services. I've given places 1 star before and the manager has invited me back to retry the place in the hopes for a second review. I do come here 1/month to get a sport deep tissue massage with Karen Garzon - she is amazing and only here on Saturdays. I wish I didn't have to come here, but it's a matter of convenience as I don't want to go into Manhattan to see Karen on Sundays. I hope this place is bought by somebody who really understands service - Brooklyn really needs a wonderful spa and there are plenty of people who would spend money on this - but don't put your money here. read more

Went for my birthday, it was a gift. I Would have been happier if... The jacuzzi was hot, not Luke warm like a babes bath, although the bubbles were cute and helped to hide my body from the gawker (male) with the cell phone, pretending to have a chat, only he wasn't speaking.. ..and the loud music being played wasn't hip hop with occasional switch of the dial to a hip hop radio station. I would have preferred something more relaxing zen or jazz music, perhaps? I would have been happier if my masseuse hadn't told me that the scrub treatment that was purchased, was too "harsh on his hands" so I opted out of it, although it was already paid for and I hadn't yet tried it.. ..and the meal I ordered was available that day (shrimp), since it was on the menu. I also would have been happier if the patrons had spa etiquette and didn't talk,/laugh so loud while taking selfies and group photos ( it felt like I was at a club) that I had to go back to the wet room to relax and get away from the noise.. My suggestion for this spa is to hire another manager, change the music, have women only hours and to advise their staff to provide what the patron has paid for and last but definitely not least..post proper spa etiquette tips, for those who do not know.. Yesterday I went to body by Brooklyn for my best friend birthday and we both got Swedish massages. It was excellent. My guy Ron did his things making sure to pay attention to were I needed extra attention at. After our massages we wet into the wet lounge which was also relaxing. We went after 5pm so it wasn't to many people there which made it even better. We also enjoyed the rum punch pitcher which was nice and strong. I'm really torn here on the number of stars to give. Overall, my experience was good only because my massage by Ron was UNBELIEVABLY DELICIOUS. I actually was angry enough mid-experience before my massage to write a 1 star draft of the place mid-robe in the locker room but I decided to delete it before it was made public. Honestly, I couldn't believe that at 10 AM (advertised as open at 10 AM), they were still cleaning the entire wet and dry spa areas (and bathrooms) until 11:30 AM! If you say you're open at 10, be open at 10. Don't have hoses, soap, pieces of toilet paper and random crap everywhere. I actually left the wet bar and went into the locker room to write the nasty review because I felt UNCOMFORTABLE to be in the wet room (and it was loud and not a relaxing and rejuvenating experience at all) while they were cleaning everything still. Anyway, the $100 Swedish massage was awesome. I have only gotten two in my life and this seriously was a good massage- Ron obviously felt sorry for me because he kept making sad noises as he cracked my back and whipped me into shape (he leaves people not feeling "just better, not just good, but fantastic!" he says.) He even threw in a hot stone rub on my legs because they really needed it after pounding Brooklyn pavement running through the streets to enjoy the nice weather this past weekend. I also told him about an aggravated stress fracture in my foot from a few years ago and he massaged it and let me know he thinks it's a tendon issue, not stress fracture (he's also a PT and works in a hospital, in addition to massage therapy). He's the real deal--you want a good masseuse, request Ron. So you can buy flip flops for $3 (they require you wear them throughout the spa) and a honey salt scrub for your face for $3 as well to use in the steam room. This was wonderful- I did it and my face felt baby-soft afterwards. They also have food and juices, etc. They sort of redeemed themselves by having everything working and clean once I got out of the massage at 12:30 PM, but the hot tub still wasn't hot (95, got to 97 by the time I left at 1:30 PM). I want a boiling hot tub. Overall, I think I'd come back specifically for Ron's massage. It was an expensive day and I don't ever treat myself to things like this but it was overall worth it. The hotter sauna (I forgot what it's called, but it's 175 degrees and Ron called it "Africa" as opposed to the Swedish one which was "Arizona") is awesome, but it burnt my butt. I wish they had everything working and clean and calm at 10 AM- they would have gotten 5 stars. I'm glad I went, I feel relaxed, and my back has never felt more amazing in my life. I had bought a living social deal for this place for a "facial" and an all day pass to their wet lounge. What a complete waste of $30! I was in New York a few months ago for a girlfriend's bachelorette party and having a spa day was part of the itinerary. This place was completely unorganized from start to finish. I was in a group of about 10 and a few of us had purchased the living social deal. They wouldn't let us all use our deals at the same time and gave us some sorry excuse for not letting us do so. So instead, they made a few of us purchase spa services on top of the deal that we had already purchased. The living social deal was definitely misleading and a complete joke. The $30 "facial" that I purchased was actually a honey/sugar scrub that I got the pleasure of applying on myself. We wanted to have brunch here but when brunch time came around, we were told that the caterers were running a little late so the wait time for brunch was pushed till an hour later. Since we had another event planned after, we decided to order from their regular menu. Ordering from their regular menu didn't save us any time though. It took literally an hour for our cold cut sandwiches to come out. So because of that, we ended being late to our next event. read more

I have been going to BBB for about a year and a half now. I live in the neighborhood (literally, 3 blks away), and was thrilled to discover it. My first experience was when my husband hooked me up w/the chocolate massage for my b-day, which was a very lovely experience. My therapist was great, and the place seemed very calming and quiet. My in-laws then bought my husband and I a one-year membership as a wedding gift. Our year is nearly up, and I have to say that I have definitely witnessed a decline in service. The front desk staff has gone from extremely welcoming and on top of things, to extraordinarily disorganized. I find it odd that that long-term members are not given any kind of ID card, which would make checking in soooo much faster. Every time, we have to get looked up and verified in the computer which takes longer than seems necessary. Of late, when we have arrived, they have been out of robes and towels, and we always have to wait. We've even gone on somewhat off-peak hours when there have not been many people there, and still waited 10 mins for a robe and towel. Compared to, when I first started going, robes were already in every locker, and towels were fully stocked in the locker room. I find the food overpriced for the quality, and yes, be prepared to wait. We brought my mom as a guest over the summer, and we ordered the coconut shrimp for a snack. We waited for close to 30 mins, and while they were tasty, they were nothing special, and the waitstaff seemed unapologetic. I've also been there several times where the bartender is clueless about what the menu offers, they are out of many items or the staff to prepare it, or it takes more than a few mins to acknowledge that you are actually waiting at the bar to be served (when I was the ONLY one there). Frustrating, to say the least. My last gripe is that the wet lounge is way too small, particularly when there are large groups there, which takes away from the relaxing atmosphere. I think a spa day is awesome for bdays, bachelorettes, baby showers, etc, but the space is simply not conducive to having both a group of 6-8+ people in party mode AND regular joes like me looking for an hour or two of peace and quiet (esp when they are all in the jacuzzi at the same time and you can't get in!). I feel like large groups should be required to use a separate, private space so as not to disturb other people. Overall, I do love the concept of BBB and that it is so close to me. But the service has declined for sure, and once our membership expires, I doubt there will be much to motivate me to go back, especially at $45/visit. read more

An insult to spa-ing. This is hands down, the worst spa I've been to. I visited this place twice, and got massages both times. The first visit was so long ago, that I can only remember that the massage was subpar, the music was too loud, and for some reason, they weren't serving drinks (which are shitty anyway). The next time I went, I was forced to go by my friend because it was her birthday. On this occasion, I was actually made to feel violated by their masseur whom I will describe, so that you can dismiss him if he comes for you, he's black and slightly chubby (no dis on race or size, just all I remember of his look, this was back in March). The guy was massaging my boobs, which I have never had done, and I felt super uncomfortable and kept moving to get him off my breasts. To make matters worse, he decided to discuss the economy (which was in shambles at the time) and politics, and did not respond to my social shut up que of mere grunts in response. WHAT THE FUCK?! This is supposed to be relaxing. I left the room wanting to cry. I asked to speak to the manager, told him what happened, and asked if he could take my massage off the bill (I was also paying for my friend), he told me that there was nothing he could do, not even offer a discount. I made a mistake here, I should have refused to pay for being molested and stressed out. Oh and lastly, there was some man in the spa lounge yelling offers of Platza, and yelling out the price - HOW TACKY!! This is a place for people who don't know what a spa should be. Please, don't take that the wrong way, we all start as spa virgins. The people in the place had no idea of spa etiquette, so I'm providing a list of parameters below (all of which were violated at Body by Brooklyn). Spa Etiquette: - Do not use cell phones in the water lounge - Do not yell in the water lounge - Do bring a swimsuit. Bra and panties are not appropriate for the jacuzzi or water lounge (especially considering that it's co-ed) - Rinse off before getting in the jacuzzi, particularly if you are so dirty you'll leave scum behind - Do not get so drunk that you hit your head and must be escorted out - Do not oggle women in the water lounge - Keep your volume to a minimum (just above a whisper) read more

The locker room was really nice. That was probably my favorite thing about the place. Also, the lounge with chairs, a quaint fireplace, and the small bar was nice too but that's about it. I booked a couple's massage for my boyfriend and I. It was okay. My masseuse was attentive but I felt like she could have pressed harder. It was more like a nice rub than a massage. My boyfriend also complained that the massage could have been harder. There was also a lot of squeaking and creaking through the massage. Not sure if that's due to the equipment. I've only had two other full body massages before. They were both couple massages that I got with my sister. One on a cruise ship and another in Bali. Both were better massages, better ambiance and squeaking wasn't a problem. We showed up a little late so we did not get a tour of the facility, which was fine. However, I felt like the wet lounge was extremely small. Now, I don't think that the saunas need to be bigger but the Jacuzzi and the arctic plunge could definitely be bigger. Either that, or build more so that people can have more privacy. There were only four of us in the Jacuzzi and anymore would have felt crowded. Definitely can't imagine if we had come at a busier time. Maybe it's because I've experienced the bath houses and hot springs of Taiwan and Japan, but this wet lounge was a disappointment. I felt like if the locker room and the outside lounge place were huge in comparison to the size of the wet lounge. We were a little hungry so we decided to grab a snack. The selection is very small, especially if its not the weekend. We ordered a smoked salmon Panini and it took forever. We were the only ones ordering so I don't understand why it took 20 minutes to make one sandwich. It did not come out hot either. Ok..so I checked out this spot..last saturday (5/1/10)...for a gilfriend's birthday spa day.... It was about 15 of us...I think?....maybe more..... The receptionist was very friendly....gave us a tour of the facilities..... I love the decor....everything is brand new....and clean.....( side note - as one yelper noted below.... when you are taken to the wet lounge.... for the tour....you are still wearing your outside shoes.....so if you're in there...please always wear your slippers.....not cool to walk around barefoot...while us strangers are being shown around)...and I also kinda didn't like that part....I felt like I was intruding the people who were trying to relax....but I get why they do it..... so you can be familiar with each sauna/temperatures/etc..... and they also give you a note card.....which gives you some instructions on how to use the wet lounge...in the best possible way....(ie: jacuzzi for 10min...hot sauna for 15....cold plunge.. back to steam room....etc....etc).... Locker rooms were spacious... clean...towels/slippers stacked up for your use....unlike my vist to other spas..where soft/personal slippers are already in my locker waiting for me...here you're just grabbing some plastic flip flops stacked according to size....and some were broken..... but not a big deal..... I had the first appt for the morning...10am with Dorothy for an aromatherapy massage...she was great....although I really wanted the salt scrub...but since our party was so large...that appt was already taken......I was expecting more scents during my massage...when I felt like I only got basic oil....and some lavender at the end....really wasn' t the sensory journey I was expecting....or similar to what I've gotten at other spas...but nonetheless....she was thorough.....and the room was relaxing..... Onto the wet lounge.....jacuzzi is small...and it runs on a 15 minute timer....so I had to keep getting out to reset it.....and if I didn't do it...1/2 of the other people had no idea and were just sitting in still water....there should be a BIG SIGN instructing people about that..... steam room was great......I'm not into HOT saunas...because they always make me dizzy....but I stil ventured in....small.....but gets the job done if that's your thing...my friend's all enjoyed it...... Yes..its co-ed....so if men walking around while you're in your bathing suit....& trying to have a girly day.....makes you uneasy.....then this may not be the spot for you....but I'm totally fine with it..... I went into each sauna....and even tried the ice cold plunge pool twice....sooooo not my cup of tea...but had to try it......LOL....and yes its friggin ICE COLD! (PS....I did notice an attendant come in every 30 minutes or so to clean the floors in the wet lounge....so I was very pleased to see that) After all of us gals were done with masages/facials.... an attendant offered us complimentary champagne for my girl's bday toast.....and she even took group pictures of us....alll around the spa....very nice...and kind touch..... I found an abundant amount of staff....and they were always around if you needed something... the shelves were stacked with towels.....when I was there.....maybe it dwindles later in the day...... (Also another nice touch.....a friend had spilled something on her white shirt before getting to the spa..... by time we left....an attendant had already washed/dried/pressed her shirt....guess it wasn't a big deal to throw it in with the white towels.....I thought that was very kind of her to offer)..... All in all....I would go here again....and opt for another treatment... I think its a great place to have a spa party with friends....and for any group event.....but I would not go here for a Zen type experience.....or if I was looking to really chill out......I know we were all very talkative and having a great time....(not loud)....but girls having a spa day together are chatty.....so if I were there by myself.....I think I would have been pissed to have all us around....lol...... read more

I probably would never have ventured here on my own, but it's close to my apartment and my manfriend got me a monthlong pass through Lifebooker. At first I was hesitant because the main part of the facility is called a wet lounge. But I do believe in the "sweat out the toxins" hype, and I'm just too lazy to go to Bikram yoga right now. The steam room is nice, although I miss the eucalyptis spray from Equinox's steam rooms. The Turkish sauna is a dry heat, which I find relaxing. The Russian sauna, however, is only for the hardcore - humid with temperatures from 190 to 200 degrees. I can stand in there for about 3 minutes. Hot tubs can be thought of as petri dishes, but this place appears to be kept very clean. Pros: Comfy chairs where you can just veg and nap if you want to stay dry. The place has a full bar, and you can bring your booze into the wet lounge. Nice lounge area outside the saunas/hot tubs if you don't want to mix your drinking. They do serve food but I haven't tried it. Other clientele I've seen seem classy. Great music. I'd guess we had a Frank Sinatra station on Pandora one day, and nice ambient grooves another. Cons: The words "wet lounge." Slightly inconsistent temperatures - for example, the Turkish sauna was 139 one day, and 160 the next. They have plenty of spa services (massages, facials, manicures, etc.), including the really pretentious ones like the Red Flower Hammam Treatment, if you're into the sort of thing. However, they're pricey; I'll be sticking to Lifebooker for those services. Finally, the staff - while very kind - is a bit slow. Ultimately, a nice gym could get you all the same amenities, and I don't intend to renew once the pass is over, but it is fun and relaxing. I wish I could give it 3.5 stars. read more

I went for the second time yesterday to cash in a gift certificate for a hot stone massage and spend some time in the steam rooms. Check-in: No greeting. Two receptionists behind the desk. Neither acknowledged my presence for nearly 10 minutes while they worked with one customer and fussed with the computers. Not quite a welcoming and relaxing start to my stay. Locker room: Clean. Showers have shampoo/cond/soap and there are q-tips. Only one hair dryer. Wet lounge: Co-ed. Three good-sized steam rooms. Tiny hot tub. Only a few lounge chairs. Two guests were on their phones - why are phones allowed? Great icy plunge pool. Massage: I arrived an hour early to unwind in the steam rooms before my massage. Just as I break into a sweat, the masseuse calls me. ??? I look at the clock and in confusion comment "ahead of schedule?, I just settled in." I went to Body by Brooklyn on a Saturday after a long and tiring few months of some very emotional things at work. I had been hoping to get away for the whole weekend and go somewhere upstate, but I just wasn't able to coordinate anything in time. So, instead, I found Body by Brooklyn which served me well in relaxing and melting my worries away! The attendants are WONDERFUL. When I got there the woman wanted to make sure I was OK with the fact that there were two parties going on. I appreciate that she asked me before I paid and even offered to show me how crowded the pools were before I made my decision. Ultimately, I felt it wasn't so crowded so I paid my $45 to have unlimited access to the Wet Lounge for the day. The Wet Lounge consists of a jacuzzi, a cold plunge pool, a turkish steamroom, a sweedish sauna, a russian sauna, about 10 showers and several lounge chairs to relax when you are not using one of the saunas/ jacuzzis. Additionally the locker room is really nice. The blow dryer was broken when I was there but luckily they had another one available for back-up. Additionally, there is a bar area where you can enjoy yummy relaxing juices as well as alcoholic drinks and food. I didn't have any food nor alcoholic drinks (doesn't seem right to me to drink alcohol in a sauna). I had two juices though, the strawberry/orange juice and a tea and they were both great! I was there for about 5 hours and loved the opportunity to just lounge around, read, jump in the sauna/steam room etc. The other guests there were nice too. Sometimes it can be awkward to be around random people in a steam room, but they were all friendly and didn't take away from me enjoying my tranquility. The only thing I think they could do better is have more towels. I had to wait for towels a few times and that was a little frustrating. I imagine they go through quite a lot though! I highly recommend this place if you want to melt away your worries in a few saunas. I did not use any of the other services just the Wet Lounge! read more

What a nice little jem in the middle of Brooklyn. Headed there on my birthday for a couple's treatment and ended up having a wonderful relaxing day. The facility is clean and spacious, the ladies' room is great. But the best hing abour this place is their wet sauna combined with ice-cold pool that turn your skin as smooth as babies a*s. This place by far continues to disappoint me. I've been here several times and there is always issues. We order drinks and food, waiter give us a menu and leaves us there. We then find out they don't begin food service till 12pm. We go to the hot tub and there is bugs inside of it. Even the cold pool had bugs in it. My friend gifted me a massage for $114 to this place. The gift certificate is not yet expired but I am being told the new owner has established a policy where gift certificates can only be used for extra VIP services or general entrance, not for the actual SERVICE that was PURCHASED. That is a really inconsiderate policy especially since it would have been really difficult for me to use the gift certificate earlier. This is just bad form and I don't recommend anyone put money in the pockets of owners such as these. I will say the person on the phone was very nice, and seemed to have to deal with many angry customers in this situation. read more

I'm backkkkk! Nearly a year later, I finally paid another visit to this spa after I was so impressed during my first visit. Body by Brooklyn might as well be my birthday hotspot since this is the second time I have visited to mark the occasion. I arrived 30 minutes early rather than the recommended 15 minutes then was asked if I was willing to push back my appointment to 2:30pm. It was no big deal. I was a bit disappointed that I wasn't offered any refreshments like I was during my first visit, but kept it moving. This time around, my visit was midday on a Thursday so it was like I had the entire place to myself. I am still in love with how well-maintained and beautiful the place looks. I decided to forego the Swedish massage which I had last time and try something new, the platza treatment. Boy was I in for a surprise, because I did not do my homework. I should have read the description on their site more closely. Here it is..."This invigorating treatment stimulates healthy circulation while exfoliating and purifying your skin. Relax in our Russian Sauna while our Platza Master taps and scrubs you with a broom made of fresh oak leaves soaked in warm fragrant water. The oak leaves contain a natural astringent, which opens your pores, removes toxins, and sloughs off layers of dead skin. This traditional Russian treatment will leave you cleansed and invigorated. We suggest following up with a dip in the cold plunge pool or a cool shower to enhance the natural cleansing processes of the body." Thankfully Judy, my Platza Master, was very patient and talked me through the entire experience. I needed to take several breaks because the heat was intense and the cold plunge pool took some getting used to as well. We conversed and found she was very personable. I managed to survive the Russian sauna which was set at over 180 degrees. I don't know how others do it, but I tried it out and it wasn't too bad. I loved how I felt afterwards. I am still in love with the wet and dry lounges. The entire spa just resonates peace, quiet, and calmness just feet away from the BQE interestingly enough. Thumbs up...I'm still a fan! read more

It seems my experience was different. I've been here twice with my wife. Both times during the day on a Monday (took the day off--mini-vacation). The Wet Room is not very big but during the day, we practically had the place to ourselves. Nice chairs, comfy for lounging. The staff brought in lemon water and stocked it. The 3 saunas were good, but one was waay too hot for us (199 degrees). The jacuzzi was nice and hot. We also had a massage, which was good too. We came out after 2 hours feeling totally relaxed. Not a bad deal. From the other reviews, can't say I'd come during the weekend, but my experience was good. Did not get food or drinks (at a spa?). read more

Let me preface with that I've been to some of the skankiest to some of the swankiest of spas in and around New York and Finland (spa country). This one falls somewhere in the middle, though, with their price points you'd expect more. They run out of towels often and they're pretty torn up/stained. The shampoos and lotions in the bathroom are generic Duane Reade brand. And the actual wet lounge is tiny. Also, if your web site and marketing both say you are open until 9 then you shouldn't be closing your doors at 8. The good thing is that it's often empty so i've had it to myself a few times. The place would be ideal for an hour visit but for $45 it's not worth it. If you're looking for a day spa then go over to Spa Castle. If you're looking for a down n dirty spa then head over to the Russian Turkish Bath's in the East Village. read more

From the cocktails, appetizers (coconut shrimp was the absolute best), jacuzzi, friendly staff to great spa treatment, of course! I came here for a prenatal massage and was pretty disappointed. Really, the woman just rubbed lotion on my body for an hour. Literally.. no exaggeration. There was no kneading or massaging... just rubbing, which my husband could've done for me for free. She clearly had no real massage therapy training. The water lounge was decent, even though the Jacuzzi was broken so it wasn't hot enough. The staff is generally nice and I had a pretty good sandwich. If you're pregnant and want a good massage, this is not the spot. read more

If I could rate this venue with a demerit I would. As a long time patron of Body by Brooklyn, it pains me to update my review, however, this establishment is no longer worthy of my dollars. Yesterday I paid a visit to the spa only to leave wholly unsatisfied. Let me rephrase that: I left sick to my stomach because of its filthy conditions. It's as if the owners feel that they do not have any competition and subsequently have little regard for customers' experiences. The facilities look worn with noticeable chips in the furniture, cracked tiles and odd stains (and odor!) in the showers and bathroom. The robes are dingy af! The stack of towels that is on the table before entering the wet lounge was damp and dingy as well. The drains on the floor inside the wet lounge area must be clogged because of the constant wading pool. The water in the jacuzzi pool was lukewarm. Upon entering, I could feel a level of viscosity in the water. Like, why is that a thing?? WTF?! There was a dark ring/film of filth in the pool enough to obscure the sign demarcating the depth. #fuckinggross It appears that something is growing or eating (take your pick) the wooden bench in the Swedish sauna. The steam room, that is now working after being broken for almost 3 months-more on that later, has an odd and putrid smell when the steamer dies down and lays dormant for a few minutes... (After bringing this to the attention of management -as if they didn't know the conditions -#howsway- they let on that there was a party of 200, replete with DJ, that wrapped at 6 am. So clearly, they did not clean thoroughly, as they did not have time, but they took my money, though??) The impervious attitude of management/owner has far exceeded its capacity; this has now become a department of health issue. Body by Brooklyn used to be a pleasant and easily accessible spa getaway that I used to enjoy. Unfortunately, I purchased a couple of massage series and BBB has refused to refund any portion of it even though the circumstances under which I purchased them and services were not upheld by the vendor. Instead, they simply throw around spa passes for the wet lounge... I have about 7 of them shits - you do the math! (Oh, to be fair, they did comp me and my guest with a dry ass kale salad and shrimp tacos... #unimpressed) Do yourself a favor, pass this "spa" by. read more
