What an amazing treatment! I had the chocolate massage with Shabbath and he is by far the best massage therapist! I left feeling rejuvenated and my skin oh so soft from the chocolate treatment. I've been having back/hip pain for years and no physical therapist or chiropractor has been able to help, but I scheduled a massage and fatefully met Ron at Body by Brooklyn. He uses a different massage technique and by the end of the 90 minute session I was feeling hopeful. He improved my flexibility and mobility in one session. Warning, it's pretty painful, but definitely worth it! He is so kind and knowledgable - will definitely be back to see him. The spa itself is also great. Walking to Body By Brooklyn is an experience -- you basically walk under the BQE, which is not for the fainthearted! The cars and trucks rumbling above your head are the perfect metaphor for all of the city chaos that you leave behind when you step into this large, loft-like, modern space. The vibe in BBB is serene and tranquil and very, very chill. Most of all, I love how they've managed to completely shut out the sounds of the BQE! I scheduled a 60 minute Swedish massage with Jennifer, who was enthusiastic and perky. The massage was great, but what sets this place apart is the wet lounge. This is a co-ed area (bring your swimsuit -- everyone wears them!) that features a jacuzzi spa, a 60 degree plunge pool, a Turkish sauna, a Russian sauna, and a steam room with aromatherapy. There are great lounge chairs. I was at BBB on a weekday, and I almost had the place to myself. I alternated between the Russian sauna, the jacuzzi, and the plunge pool, and wrapped it up with 30 minutes of lounging on the chairs, reading my book and relaxing. It really feels like an urban oasis. The wet lounge is free when you spend more than $80 on spa services. My massage, plus a 20% tip, came to about $115. read more

I'm spoiled, being used to Burke Williams LA spas and the sorts of places you see in hotels in Vegas, etc... but I wanted to stay in Brooklyn and do some wet room stuff on the cheap, and this place provides a clean relatively pleasant place to do that. The vibe/decor here is that of a moderately priced hotel in upstate New York, or a YMCA, rather than a heavily ID'ed spa. Clean, functional, corner-cutting, artless. Pros: I went on a weekday around lunchtime and had the place to myself. HEAVEN. They have a fully stocked womens locker room with soap/shampoo/conditioner in the shower stalls, clean soft towels & robes, hair dryers, body lotion, etc. The steam room has a "Turkish Tsunami Shower" (ie, very cold shower) that is great. They have two types of sauna, some very comfy lounge chairs that you can easily go to sleep on, a useful guide to how to use the wet lounge facilities (how long to use each pool, shower, or room; ways to alternate them to get best results for various needs ie relaxation, energizing, hangover, detox). There's a great organic cafe/grocery next door that has a juice bar, sandwich/salad bars, and yummy soups. Oh yeah and IT IS VERY INEXPENSIVE. Cons: instead of washable fabric slippers you are given reused plastic flip-flops, YUCK. The lock room floors are insanely slippery when wet. If the place hadn't been totally empty when I was there, it would have filled up real fast, since it's pretty tiny. They don't provide small washcloths or icewater in the wet lounge to use when you're in the steam and sauna rooms (I wet down a full size towel and brought it in with me). The steam room has the most obnoxious smell -- something between sports locker room and horse manure. The staff started playing obnoxiously loud music while I was showering and changing at the end of my visit -- this stuff is piped to the entire place -- boy am I glad I was leaving! Ultimately I left feeling very very nice, stopped and got a fresh juice from the next door cafe, and was quite satisfied with my visit. I highly recommend you bring your own flip flops and a small towel (the latter if you are the type who gets overheated easily in hot tubs or steam/sauna rooms). read more

Had been there before, but not in a while. We were there this past Sunday for my friends birthday. 6 of us and everything went smoothly. Crystal our event planner was excellent and even on short notice had everything done well for us. The lunch we had was on time, extremely tasty and very filling. I am pretty sensitive to loud noise, so I was glad to see that the other guests were all well behaved and the tone is generally what you would expect in a spa. There were plenty of towels throughout the day. The masseurs that served my friends were all on time or maybe 10 minutes late. Hot tub was hot, steam room just perfect. The staff frequently checked with us to see if everything was ok. We stayed the whole day and truly enjoyed ourselves. read more

This place has terrible customer service. The manager was incredibly rude. The day before my appointment he called me to explain a mistake his staff had made in scheduling my appointment which would result in my having to pay an additional $130 for the service I booked for me and a friend. He thought I would be grateful that he was making me aware of the issue the day before and would not honor the mistake his staff made or offer any compensation. Our conversation was so maddening that I will not be visiting this spa and based on this egregious customer service experience would not recommend that anyone else visit either. read more

If I could give no stars I would. In short, DON'T GO! Our experience here from start to finish was awful. I took my girlfriend here for her birthday for a facial, I would have been better off saving my money and buying her $400 worth of shampoo. When we got there, there was a large crowd, a loud and obnoxious party of women who yelped and yipped from the moment we walked in. We waited outside the locker room for 15 minutes for a "tour" of the facility, which includes a sub-par bar with uncomfortable chairs, a "wet spa" where you must beg for clean towels (probably because dirty towels are scattered all over the facility with empty drinks), and jacuzzi with 'hospital lighting.' The website does a good job of making the facility seem chic and clean--lies. So after dealing with a crowd of loud and large women, yipping as they went from sauna to jacuzzi, it came time for the facial. The "specialist" barged into the steam room calling for my girlfriend about 25 minutes before the appointment time, took her back barely saying a word and scrubbed her face raw. When my girlfriend said quite plainly that the facial was painful and she was afraid of redness/scaring, the "specialist" continued with no regard for her client's concerns or comfort. Everything was rushed, she was handed a glass of water and escorted out of her "facial" room. In the locker room, a staff-member felt compelled to tell her what a long day she had had and complain to her, her customer, about the spa. $400 bucks later, and the next day, my girlfriend's face is still red from the facial, with specific painfulness on her nose and an actual mark, as if skin was removed- how relaxing! I am awaiting a resolution from Body by Brooklyn...expecting a phone call later today from the owner...hopefully they can resolve this horrid and awful experience with a full refund, because honestly we should have been paid for enduring this spa. TL;DR DON'T GO! SAVE YOUR MONEY. read more

The reason for the high rating is because my massage was great,men's locker room spotless and overall clean facility.The real concern is the lack of staff oversight in the water area. Some guest use this area to speak as if they were in the park and disturb other guest.I was informed to notify the front desk the next time ,but I should not have to do that staff should be making rounds and ensure all is OK.Also there was a women in the sauna on her cell phone. read more

My fiancée and I came to this spot for our first time today and it was AMAZING. The staff was wonderful and everything was perfect. Selina took us on our tour and she set us up in our VIP couples suite later on. She is such a sweet, fun and charismatic girl. They gave us a free bottle of champagne and snacks and we had a jacuzzi and steak shower all to ourselves. Cara did my massage and Anchalee did my fiancées. Cara was the best. She is great at her job and passionate about it too. She really focused on my needs and her massage had me feeling brand new! Jacqui is the esthetician there and she is awesome. She's down to earth and helped guide us on what's best for us to do with our skin. Kelvin, the bartender, is so chill and fun to talk to. He is the perfect bartender and a really good person. This was by far the worst "Spa" experience I've ever had. I frequent spa's quite often and I was left feeling disgusted and repulsed. My friend purchased a 60 minute massage for me as a late birthday gift & I was elated because I heard a few good things about this location. When I checked in with the receptionist I was given a dingy looking robe but I was in such a hurry for my massage I didn't have a chance to fully inspect the robe (I will detail more about the robe in a few). Okay so let's talk about the sub par massage. For starters, my friend booked a Swedish massage which I was fine with. Let me say this, the massage therapist had the roughest hands I've ever felt. I'm talking CALLOUSED! At one point I was tempted to tell her to stop out of fear she would scratch my skin. Also, the head of the massage table fell off at the beginning of my massage and it took the therapist almost 10 minutes to locate another head cover. After my massage, I reunited with my friend who was relaxing in the tiny sauna room. We attempted to go into the "kid sized" Jacuzzi but the staff turned the jets off because the spa was expecting a large party at 7:30pm. It was only 6:30pm. The cost of entry to the spa was $65 which basically only includes the Wet lounge area which is compromised of a small sauna, small steam room, and a very small jacuzzi. So my friend had a huge problem with not being able to access the jacuzzi considering that was the only thing that makes the $65 worth while. We decided to speak with the manager who was just as perplexed as to why the jets were turned off. Nonetheless, the manager instructed the staff to turn on the jets, in which they did. We stayed in the jacuzzi for a few and then decided to head back to the locker room to get dressed and leave. Okay back to my robe...... When I put my robe back on I noticed a few red stains on the sleeve. My friend then pointed out several more red stains on along the back of the robe. Upon closer inspection we realized the red stains were in fact BLOOD! I was MORTIFIED!!! We went back to the manager and he apologized and offered us two day passes to be used at a later time (Ha!). They gave me another robe which looked just as dingy BUT it was "blood free." Another manager approached us and stated one of the past guests had left red candy in the pocket of a robe and when the robes were washed it bled on 15 other robes. I detected bullsh*t but I let it go because I just wanted to get out of there. In the end, they gave us two day passes but I gave mine to my friend because there's no way I will ever come to this place again. Please save your money and time and go elsewhere. Spa castle is a paradise compared to this place and I strongly dislike Spa castle. read more

I called to confirm whether all steam rooms, saunas and jacuzzi were indeed working properly at the correct temperatures since my experience has been that they don't manage their facility well and there is something not working correctly fairly often. The response I received from the front desk was that they saunas may not been working properly as the temperature they are showing may not be the correct temperature. OK, what does that mean? I asked her if that meant I should not come in then, she told me I'd be coming in at my own risk. This place is the worst spa I have ever experienced in NYC. I wouldn't say I'm a massage snob, I just find that the pressure is either too light to really do any *good*, or hard enough to be downright painful. And while I'm happy to give instructions, I think massage therapists either know how to "listen" to your body or they don't. Last week I had a massage at BbB from Aimee, and she rocked my socks off. She felt what my body needed--more pressure in some spots, less in others--and went with it, rather than doing a cursory, "Here's what I was taught at school" kind of massage. She also did my Hamam treatment, and has such a relaxed, warm, friendly vibe that made the whole experience a dream. Also--the Hamam treatment made my body baby-tush-smooth. I've been touching my own arm for days, marveling because it's so soft. The spa, while it doesn't have the uber-luxe feel of say, the Spa at the Mandarin Oriental, is friendly, clean and contemporary, with lots of places to relax both before and after your treatments. They recently underwent renovations and are still working out a few kinks, but nothing that affected my experience. read more

I recently went with a group of friends for a girls day out to celebrate ourselves and healthy living. When we arrived I was impressed at the location. I used to work in the neighborhood (around the corner actually from the site). It was good to see the space being put to a good use. It was afternoon when we arrived. There were a few people waiting to checkout so we patiently waited. After a few minutes we were given the check-in form to fill out. They did not have enough clipboards or pens to provide for the FOUR of us. After we filled out the form we were asked if it was our first time. We replied yes and then were given locker keys and sent on our way. The check-out process was not explained, we were not given information about how to pay for purchases inside the spa, nor were we directed to where anything was in the spa. One of the woman in my party had a surprise massage scheduled. The masseuse was waiting outside of the women's locker room asking everyone if they were my friend. I'm wondering if someone said yes, would they have gotten the massage her boyfriend paid for. While she went for her massage (which she did enjoy) the rest of us ventured to explore what else there was. Not much! The lounge area is very nice. At the bar we ordered food and were told since it was not made on-site we would have to wait at least fifteen minutes for our sandwiches. They were good when they finally arrived (from next door). The jacuzzi was dirty inside and outside so we skipped it. Same with the cold plunge pool - not really a pool but an oversized bucket if you ask me. The three times we looked for towels there were never more than one or two available even though we did not see many other people at the facility. We decided not to ask anyone about the towels once we saw how one of the workers spoke to another client looking for towels. The sauna and steam room were nice. Accept the steam room seemed to get dirtier and dirtier every time we entered it. The workers did not seem happy to be there or eager to help. Even our checkout process seemed to be annoying to them. I do not plan on returning and would not recommend it to anyone. I really wanted to love it since I do not live too far but I would rather stress myself by traveling to Queens for Spa Castle than spend another day at Body By Brooklyn read more

Honestly, "spa-ing" has never really been in my repertoire of leisure activities. I like to fill my days off with relaxing at home, and I've never really understood leaving my warm apartment on a cold day, just to go sit and relax somewhere else. Que Body By Brooklyn, I am now a believer. Upon entering I was greeted warmly by 2 charming ladies at the front desk. I explained to them I had never been to a spa, which seemed to excite them into walking me through the whole routine, including a brief tour of the sitting area, bar & food options, and an elaborate but educational overview of the "wet lounge". After changing into my robe I walked out into the lounge and made my way to the bar where I met a lovely young lady who suggested one of her signature drinks. I think it was called a French 75. IT WAS AMAZING. After the drink loosened me up a bit I started a regiment of treatments starting with the Turkish Steam Room and ending with the Russian Sauna (although I felt a bit like a baked good when I finished). I must say i get it now. I felt so relaxed and happy just sitting there reading the paper, then going back to another treatment. I will definitely be back. read more

I went there with 8 other girls to celebrate my forty (something) birthday. It was absolutely the most amazing spa experience I've ever had. CRYSTAL!! There are no words to describe how good she is at what she does. From the initial contact with her over the phone, she was always on top of my wishes, then when we arrived she made sure everything ran smoothly. The massage therapist that did the treatments for the girls, too many to mention but they were all top notch, professional, welcoming and knew exactly what everyone wanted. No one was disappointed!! To the chef: Your hands have been blessed. The food was fresh, melted in our mouths and was probably one of the best brunch meals we've all had. If I had to say one bad thing it was that we had to leave. We would go back many times. I think that if I went there with my husband that he would enjoy it as well. This place is horrible!! I went to Body by Brooklyn and thought it was top notch, the place is, however the customer service is horrible!! The manager isn't nice. I booked a 530pm appointment for a massage and the girl booked it for 515pm. I was robbed 10 minutes because they say I arrived late, but I had a 530pm not a 515pm appointment!! I came back raging not stress free from this spa at all! I went because a friend was having a girls get together. I usually go to Natural Balance Spa, They are the best and VERY PROFESSIONAL ! Started visit with a dip in the jacuzzi, after warming up my muscles went on to an AMAZING hot-stone massage followed by alternating b/t swedish and 200degree russian sauna :-)!!! Ending with a final soak in jacuzzi, dip in the cold dip pool and lunch! I had an AWESOME experience. Beautiful, clean&comfortable facility. Helpful&courteous staff! Only suggestion is to revamp the menu. HIgher quality ingredients and preparations would suit the space more appropriately and would probably draw clientele throughout the city-with this slight tweak has the potential to truly become one of the cities best attractions!!! My husband and I got a couple's massage, which was fantastic. We had Lenin and Cara and they both were excellent and extremely good at their job. I had places massaged and worked that I didn't even know were tight and knotty. And my back was soooo much better off afterwards. My one gripe was that we were charged an additional $30 just to get a couple's massage. Which basically meant that we were in two adjoining rooms without a wall. I guess the extra charge is so that we could get a massage together? It just seemed excessive, especially since the massages were already pretty expensive. I think next time we just won't get a couple's massage and would be fine in separate rooms. And we would definitely go back to Lenin and Cara again! read more

Not a place to relax. Receptionist was not friendly and gave my friends and I a weird vibe. She tells us they are out of keys for the lockers in the ladies locker room (I'm still not sure how this is possible...does that mean they will never be able to use some of the lockers again?) and that we should change, bring our belongings back to the front desk, and someone will take our things to the men's locker room. Sure. Weird, but sure. We stand out by reception in our towels for about 10 minutes waiting for the receptionist to either take our things, or get someone else to take our things when a man in jeans, t-shirt, and backwards hat, says he will take our things to the men's locker room. Again, weird, but sure. We take a tour and then decide to have a drink and a snack before our massage. Mimosas take 10 minutes. Then we order some yogurt and granola parfaits, telling the bartender (because the waitress never came...still not sure there is a waitress?) we had massages in 40 minutes. The "parfaits" take 30 minutes, I swear to god, yogurt and fruit--no granola--take 30 minutes. We waited in the hallway where we were told to stand and wait for our masseuse, for 20 minutes. Finally, my sassy friend decided to ask about our massages...turns out we had never been checked in by the receptionist, so our masseuses didn't realize they had appointments waiting for them. The massages were also weird. The rooms are chilly, so not the most relaxing atmosphere when you're naked. Also, you can hear everything. EVERYTHING. You can hear the person in the next room taking their robe off and taking to their masseuse about problem areas, you can hear people laughing and talking in the sauna area, you can hear water carts clanging down the tile hallway...EVERYTHING. Not relaxing. The wet lounge was gross. Some weird shirtless dude in a wool hat (I guess he works there?) staring at you for 5 minutes, then trying to sell you a session in the sauna where he beats you with an oak branch, the cold pool has clumps of hair and leaves floating in it, and the hot tube is so crowded you have to wait in line. Now my favorite part...we go back out to the dry lounge to try and relax and have a drink, and they have "Childs Play" playing on all the TVs in the dry lounge. Yes, the horror movie with the scary doll. Playing in a spa. Also why are there TVs everywhere in a spa? Checking out was weird. No one at the desk knew who had ordered what at lunch, so separating out checks was a bit stressful. I wasn't relaxed, but if I HAD been, that would have harshed my mellow for sure. Overall complaints: had to search for clean towels, massage therapists complaining about their work week to each other and to their clients, its loud everywhere, flickering lights in the dry lounge, horror movies playing on the TV, complicated check-out, food/drinks take forever, and my things were kept in the men's locker room. If someone had popped out at the end and told me I was on a candid camera show, I wouldn't have been surprised. Its THAT bad. Spend a little extra and go to an actual spa. read more

STAY AWAY! This place has become a dump. When Body By Brooklyn opened in 2006...I was overjoyed. It was amazing! They had the best massage therapists, incredible service, great bar and restaurant. The staff was HAPPY, courteous and provided an abundance of clean towels and robes...Flip-flops were available in all sizes under the sink in the locker room at no cost. I have to say that it has been on the decline for years. But now it"s become an unbearable mess. The towels and robes are dirty and dingy...and the owners have never replaced them. The flip-flops now have to be purchased...all of the great therapists left. The bar is open but you can only get brunch on weekends. The employees leave used glasses and dishes around after customers have eaten. I sat by the fireplace for 30 minutes waiting to see if any of the workers would clear the coffee table near the fireplace. No one did... The hot tub/whirlpool is always dirty...there's a slime bubbling up when the whirlpool is on and the lounge chairs are old and broken. I will come back when the spa is sold to new owners who will return it to the clean wonderful spa it once was. The NYTimes review that's on the website was written in 2010 during the years when Body By Brooklyn was actually one of the best spa's in NY. read more

Its clear the 90 minute they put someone even more experienced in to do my massage, which was even better an experience. I admittedly had a really good time here with my friends, but it was more about the company than the location. We came on a Saturday with a group of 7 and really lucked out in that it was basically empty. Our day pass including the purchase of some sea salt scrub ($7 extra for the salt) was around 54 dollars. It's not a bad deal for what you get, but I think we were all surprised by how small the wet lounge was. I walked in expecting a huge facility (I think the website says it's 10,000 square feet) but the actual size of the facilities that you have access to in the day pass is probably 1,000 square feet, including the bar and dry lounge. At one point we actually ventured out of the area to see if there were other rooms that we were missing. We did have fun bouncing from the hot jacuzzi to the steam room, even taking a plunge in the freezing cold water jacuzzi. However, while I wouldn't say the wet lounge was dirty, but I didn't exactly get a super clean vibe either. Also, it's pretty dark in the room so honestly, we wouldn't know either way. I get that this type of place is typically dark, but this was dark as in dungeon dark, not mood setting dark. As I said earlier, we basically had the wet lounge to ourselves so I think that vastly improved our experience. Complete disappointment. So not worth the $. This place is completely overpriced. Keep that in mind. Vip Spa room for a couple does not look like the one on the website!!! I paid a looooooot of $ for it and it was not worth it at all. Jacuzzi in this Vip Spa room was not hot at all. There is a small steam room in vip Spa room and there is a small chair which my boyfriend and I had to share. Both of us were sitting on the edge of the chair which was pretty uncomfortable, but funny though. I ordered 2 massages. I paid around $340 or smth for 2 ppl for aromatherapy massage! There was barely any scent. They told me there'd definitely be a scent, I guess, masseuses where not informed in advance that they need to perform aromatherapy massage and instead we got Swedish massage which is a regular massage with no scent. Swedish massage cost $60 less, and I ended up paying $60 more for my massage which was basically Swedish. General sauna also was not the best, cuz wood you'r supposed to sit on was so hooooot! I tried to sit on it and I jumped right away! It was so painful. It felt like you are actually sitting on the metal, not on the wood. Staff was was helpful and friendly though.
