I took my 1st class last year. Im in my early 40s and loved that this studio attracts Pilate lovers in their 20s to 50+. I had never used a reformer before this studio. I was greeted by friendly staff and the instructor showed me the machine so I could understand cues. It's clean, and the staff is welcoming. They don't care if your top and bottoms don't match, all that matters is you have grip socks on. I got hooked after my first class. I love the variety of classes and motivating instructors. Start with Classic and or Power Tower. Challenge yourself with Reformer Jump. The App is great, shows I've done 110 classes, use it to reserve classes. I make sure to go at least 4 days a week. Why? mental health - I immediately feel better after devoting 50 minutes at BODYBAR. I never regret showing up to a class. read more

I joined Body Bar April 2025 without any experience with Pilates. I just kept booking classes and showed up with my unlimited membership. I lost weight and fat, and I gained muscle! They have occasional challenges that motivated me to accomplish more which actually helped me get stronger! I will keep my unlimited membership. Classes - as someone new to Pilates, i realized movements look easy but they're not! But i'm better now. Classes are easy to book through the app. They also have private classes. Instructors, staff, customer service - they're great! We chat with them about everything and not just Pilates. Compared to the yoga studio that I used to go to, Body Bar always has staff that you can talk to and ask questions. You can also text them. If you called and left voicemail or no voicemail , they will call you or text you back. The place - it's always clean, there's bathrooms with supplies like hair ties, tampons... theres cubbies for our shoes, phones, purse, hangers for jackets. Merchandise - They have workout clothes, lotion, water bottle, grip socks (the socks are cute!). Parking - not difficult. If its a busy time, you will just have to walk a little further but there's always empty spots. Food - they have no food but if you are hungry after class, theres restaurants in the same plaza. Mexican, Japanese, Italian, donut shop, Jersey Mike's Subs, Coffee Bean and Tea leaf, Vons. Happiness and Well Being - I've met people in class that are now becoming my friends and we live in the same neighborhood! My home away from home! I've been a member since this studio opened, and I've really grown to love this community. All the instructors are welcoming, knowledgeable, and just downright good people. There's never judgement and they always meet you where you are, whether you're feeling like Super Woman with intensifications or needing something a little gentler. There's a nice variety of class formats and instructor styles, ranging from classical to contemporary moves. I couldn't recommend this studio more! read more

BODYBAR UTC has helped elevate my fitness goals! I've tried 3 Pilates studios in SD before getting a membership here. I particularly like that they have the Pilates accessory equipment I haven't seen at all studios such as the chair, tower, and jump board. All of the instructors and staff are very nice and professional. The classes are fun, and some instructors offer personal correction on functional alignment that I really appreciate. I took the signature series class with Kaari through ClassPass and I loved it! She was a great instructor providing great cues, any corrections and countdown. I enjoyed how there were added moments to reset instead of quickly transitioning into the next movement. I also liked how majority of everything was used - reformer, bar, dumbbells & box. I have never felt so unwelcome at a fitness studio. From the moment I walked in as a new client, one of the clearly new managers, Jeanne, was condescending, dismissive, and unnecessarily rude. Instead of creating a supportive environment, she made me feel judged and discouraged simply for being new. The entire interaction gave off fake, mean-girl energy and made what should have been an exciting first visit incredibly uncomfortable. She clearly has never even touched a reformer in her life...she is so out of shape which tells you something about the studios image. A Pilates studio should be a place where people of all experience levels feel encouraged, not belittled. Her attitude came across as immature, unprofessional, and completely lacking in customer service. Rather than offering guidance or helping me feel comfortable, she acted as though I was an inconvenience. I never take the time to write lengthy reviews, but this experience was so disappointing that I felt others should know what to expect. If this is how new clients are treated, it's no surprise people choose to spend their money elsewhere. There are plenty of studios with instructors and managers who understand that kindness, professionalism, and encouragement are just as important as the workout itself. I won't be returning, and I wouldn't recommend this studio to anyone looking for a welcoming fitness community. read more

Ever since I got into pilates, I've been OBSESSED. I didn't realize how fun and great of a workout pilates was until I moved down to California. I am definitely becoming a Californian girly, haha! When I heard a new studio was opening up, the studio reached out and offered a free class to me which was super nice of them! It's located in between Vons and a liquor store in the University Square on Governor Dr in La Jolla. There's a big open parking lot with lots of parking spaces. My friend and I took their Classic class session with Viv. She was an amazing instructor! She really pushed us into working every single muscles in our legs, upper body, and core. Viv provided great adjustments when our forms were incorrect or misaligned. I really enjoyed her class as I came out of the class sweaty and exhausted. Definitely a great workout! My friend and I both agreed we really enjoyed this instructor and her class. The reason I marked down two stars was the fact that the studio itself was very persistent in trying to recruit me into their studio. I understand that they're a new studio and want to recruit new and existing members. I specifically told the worker after my class before leaving that I would reach out on my own accord if I decided to join the studio. The next week was full of persistent follow ups of phone calls and text messages to ask if I wanted to come back for another class or if I was interested in their class packs/monthly packs. It was so persistent that I started to feel that the studio was doing this as a marketing tactic with commission on the line. I didn't appreciate that they didn't allow me the time to think over it on my own accord. It was a bit of my fault for not telling them earlier to stop contacting me, but I didn't think they would contact me every single day to follow up. Alas, I removed myself from the call list. But something to keep in mind if you decide to try out their studio. Overall, the studio is new and beautiful, and the instructor I had was VERY good. It's a shame that their persistence on recruiting me left a bad impression. But maybe I'll come back for another class once in a while in the future. read more

The Studio is new and the equipment is great. Didn't appreciate the 'high sell' harassment with repeated calls and texts, just too much. The class went straight into lunges - no Pilates warm-up at all, nor did they check with me for previous injuries or any modifications. I would not recommend BodyBar Pilates. They harassed me with repeated phone calls and less than 24 hours before my class, they suddenly demanded a credit card to "secure" my spot, something that was never required at booking (which was confirmed a week in advance). It felt sketchy and was incredibly inconvenient. The whole experience left a bad impression and I won't be rescheduling. read more

Great new studio in the UTC area! I saw an advertisement on FB about a new opening studio and took that opportunity to become a founding member! All the instructors are amazing!! I absolutely love Dani's energy at those 5am classes! The studio is in a strip mall but I've never had an issues with getting parking. Such a friendly vibe! Came here for my first class and loved it. Had so much fun and was told after that they were doing a sale of 20% off a month until October. I signed up. Bare in mind, all I was told was it was 20% off and the most you could get was 3 months at this price. That's ALL I was told. Now I'm in school and extremely busy so I had to cancel for next month and most likely not go again for a while. Guys. Guys. Apparently I CONSENTED to 3 month commitment. I verbally consented to a three month commitment of a package where I wasn't told I had to commit for three months. The person who explained this to me was super sweet but she also said to me that the hold was $15 per month. So let's compare this to another scenario... I used to go to a pole dancing studio before this $150 a month from a deal I got, freezes charged me nothing, and I could cancel anytime. Now let's think... which is the more respectful deal, where you are not tricked into a 3 month commitment, and which also elevates your confidence + strength? Yeah... yeah.
