Enjoyed a beautiful, well-paced meal here. Our server was fantastic! Excellent cocktails, gorgeous space. The French onion and the crab cakes are worth writing home about! Really beautiful patio for drinks after. They deserve all the stars! A definite experience

One of the best, if not the best, steakhouse I've been to. Service was excellent, the inside was beautiful, and the food was beyond my expectations. For starters, we had the French Onion Soup and the Wedge Salad. The soup was good, it was on the sweeter side though which wasn't my favorite. The salad was fresh, crunchy, and light. Definitely a highlight! For the main course, we had the 8oz Filet, 16oz Ribeye, and the Char-Grilled Jumbo Shrimp. This is what made this steakhouse standout to me. Everything was season and cooked to perfection. The side of the Brandy Mushroom Sauce was a great addition to the steak. The Filet was soft, juicy, and just perfect in every bite. The Ribeye was full of flavor and overall was a very good steak. The shrimp was some of the best shrimp I've had. The seasoning was impeccable, it was juicy, and tasty. For sides, we had the Baked Potato and Broccoli. The potato was a 10/10 and you were able to add more or less of what you wanted with the do it yourself style. I loved it! The broccoli was cooked great it was just very saturated in a pool of olive oil. Finally, dessert was a huge highlight and I loved every single bite. We got the Triple Chocolate Double Fudge Brownie. It was like eating a molten lava cake as a brownie. It was soft, gooey, chocolatey, fudgey, and everything you would want from a brownie and so much more. If you have not tried this steakhouse and are in the area of San Antonio, you need to come here because it will not disappoint by any means!

Looking for an amazing place for intimate celebrations? Bohanans is the perfect mix of ambiance , excellent service and a menu to please everyone. We were celebrating a birthday party and from start to finish we were pleased with every bite. The quality of each course was exceptional...the steak was the star with the crab cakes being the best I have ever had and we look forward to going back again and again. Don't miss this fine dining experience while in San Antonio.

Great place! Have not eaten here in a long while. Pricey to be sure but worth it! Steak was very good, and worth the price but no really the best I have ever had. The seafood is king here. As is the banana foster dessert! Great for a special occasion!

Bohanan's Prime Steak is definitely a five star restaurant. If you love a good steak, they have something for you and you will not be disappointed. The steaks are such high-quality and cooked to perfection, there is no need for a steak knife. The flavor is amazing and all of the sides and desserts are cooked to perfection and a wonderful compliment to their entrees. Bohanan's is a beautiful historic building with a bar on the first level that is a work of art itself and spacious dining area on the second level. The service is always exceptional as well as you would expect from a five star steak house. If you are looking for an amazing dining experience for a special occasion or as a part of an evening downtown you must try Bohanan's.

Went here for our anniversary and it was next level experience. We sat up stairs so the hostess instructed us to use the elevator, when the doors opened we were greeted by name. The staff was next level as well so attentive and professional. Food was delicious and my red snapper was so good I wanted to order another one! Highly recommend this place!

Bohanan's is the last name of the chef in Owner and was established in 2002. The building itself has some great history and I believe I was told this latest one is the third owner. Everyone we met last night took such great care us. Dave, Logan, Zander, Alex and Maya, what a team. I love the starter with the homemade jalapeño jelly, cream cheese, and Lil crunchy toast. The bread muffins were good and I really enjoyed my perfectly seasoned and cooked steak. It was fabulous. I also ordered Their House salad. It was fresh in delightful, but it definitely was not worth $21. It barely filled up the inside of a plate as you can see in my picture but overall of the decor, love the people love the food. I WOULD RECOMMEND

First time here and can't wait to return! We were going to see the Nutcracker at the Majestic right across the street. We had 90 minutes before it began and we decided to pop in. The hostess was kind and gave us the option of their bar area or their main dining. We chose to stay in the bar area. They have two menu options for both areas. We started with drinks: ld fashioned for the husband and I chose the Cantarito. Both were so delicious. To eat, we had the filet cooked to perfection served with Parmesan truffle fries and I had the steak salad which was wonderful!! Service was top notch. Restrooms were so clean. Love the candlelit ambience. Very romantic! You pay for what you get. And every penny is worth it!

Let me just start by saying the ambiance and service at Bohanan's is top notch! I was out for a night of fun with the fellas and as soon as we walked in the door, we were met with smiling faces and a warm welcome from all of the staff. The waitress was very thorough in explaining all the different cuts of meat they had and made decision making easy. Sides are shareable and are made of high quality ingredients, all flavors were on point. It was also very nice of them to have 3 waiters bring out our 3 steaks all at the same time, a very nice touch that was appreciated. Steaks were cooked to perfect temperature and dessert (which I usually skip) was to die for. Restaurant staff were all very friendly and even showed us their gratitude as we finished up and walked out the door. Overall excellent experience from start to finish, will definitely be coming back next time I'm in the area. Pro tip - try to get a seat by the window for a nice view!

Excellent service, excellent food, excellent environment. Enjoyed my time. The server gave us suggestions since it was our first time here.

I don't say this lightly: this is my favorite meal in the history of food. Not "one of my favorites." The favorite. If eating this every single day were medically, financially, and socially acceptable, I absolutely would. I have to settle for once a year on my anniversary. I order this every time. I always order the "regular" ribeye (using that word very loosely), and my husband goes for the A5 Wagyu. And yet somehow, my so-called regular steak is still the best steak I've ever eaten in my life. Nothing else even comes close. Other steaks have officially been ruined for me. This one is life-changing in a way that feels dramatic but is also completely accurate. And the sautéed spinach? I would order it as my entrée if they'd let me. Best side dish ever, full stop. The entire experience is worth every penny. From the first bite to the last, it's one of those meals you keep thinking about long after you leave. This place has officially raised the bar to an unfair level, and I will happily keep coming back anyway. Five stars, forever.

    Bohanan's Reviews in Other Languages

    Ask the Community - Bohanan's

What kind of price are we talking about for a lovely dinner for two; one steak entree, one fish entree with wine, salad, vegetable sides and dessert?

If you're going with a "value" bottle of wine, along with all of the other dishes, you're looking at about $225-$250 with tip.

What’s the difference between upstairs seating and not upstairs?

About 12 ft. And the proximity to the bar.

Does anybody know where to find the wine list?

That book is so thick, I doubt they have it online.

What are the dessert options? Do they still serve bananas foster, and is it served tableside? What other tableside services are offered?

Last night they had bananas foster, cherries jubilee, and flambéed strawberries (all prepared table side), amaretto cheesecake, creme brûlée, bread pudding, and some chocolate dessert.

What is the general price for dinner? For instance steak salad and wine?

I am assuming you mean a steak, salad and wine not steak salad! Expect to spent about $100 a person for that. The service is excellent and so is the food.

Hi what's the best place to park nearby?

They have valet parking. Or, there is a surface lot on Houston between Soledad and Main.

Are children allowed? A very well behaved toddler.

Yes, but be aware this is a fine dining (tablecloths, cocktails, wine sommelier, etc.) location. Not exactly high chair and booster seat territory.

We are bringing our 11 and 12 year old to dinner before the theater. Is there a kids' menu?

Not specifically. Picky eaters might be okay with the Mac and cheese side (which are generous for 2) or the BLT sliders or fish tacos from the bar menu, or you could call ahead and see if they'll special order the burger or Frito Pie from the lunch…

Do they regularly carry fresh king crab?

Is there still live jazz on Saturday nights?

Yes. Every Friday and Saturday evening. Starts around 9!

Jeans ok to wear? I'm in town without my luggage

Hi Johnathen my name is Colin Curtis always happy to answer questions yes jeans are a good choice mabey with a collard shirt would be nice. I would also recommend you getting the Rocky Mountain oysters if your in to that.

For her second drink, she told the bartender to surprise her. He gave her a look and asked more than once if she was sure she wanted him to surprise her. Instead of making her an actual cocktail, he poured her what seemed to be a straight, extremely bitter liqueur. The whole interaction felt sarcastic and like he was intentionally messing with her rather than trying to make her something she would enjoy. What bothered me most was the attitude behind it. We weren't being rude, demanding, or causing problems. We were there to have a good time and experience the whole "tell us what you like and we'll make you something" concept. I did call the number listed for the business afterward trying to speak to someone about it. The person who answered said I had the wrong number and didn't know what I was talking about. I got angry during that call and said some things I shouldn't have, and I can admit that. But that doesn't change how disappointing the experience at the bar was. We expected a creative and welcoming experience and instead left feeling like my wife had been mocked. I hope management sees this and addresses it, because the concept of the place is great, but the way we were treated completely ruined it for us

Despite the staff shortage, we placed a significant order for at least ten drinks. My husband had made a reservation for 6:00 PM. However, at approximately 7:30 PM, after we had already placed our drink order, a staff member informed my husband that our table reservation was only valid for two hours. Concerned about the impending two-hour limit and the delay in receiving our drinks, which had still not arrived by 7:45 PM, we inquired with our bartender about potentially canceling our order. He reassured us, stating that other tables were available should additional patrons arrive. Our subsequent visit, on Saturday, July 25, 2026, was solely with my husband. We arrived punctually, approximately five minutes before our 7:30 PM reservation. A female bartender directed us to a small, two-person table, despite the presence of two larger, seemingly more comfortable, unoccupied tables nearby. While initially assuming these larger tables might be reserved for a bigger party, the selection felt somewhat restrictive given the availability. Our seating unfortunately placed us adjacent to another patron who was using an additional chair to prop up her footwear, which contributed to an unpleasant atmosphere. The bartender then approached our table and asked if it was our first time, to which we replied it was not. She then asked if we knew what we wanted to order. We requested a brief moment to review the menu. However, we then waited for approximately fifteen minutes for her to return. Eventually, my husband had to actively call her over to place our order. Our initial drinks arrived after another ten to fifteen minutes. Subsequently, my husband attempted to catch the bartender's attention to order another round and request water. However, she was engaged in a lengthy conversation, estimated at ten minutes, with the neighboring patron and proceeded to walk past our table without acknowledging us. This extended period of being overlooked led to considerable frustration for my husband, who then felt compelled to approach the main bar directly to place our order and obtain water from a different bartender. It was only after this that the initial female bartender finally approached our table, asking if we needed anything. Considering the relatively small size of the establishment and the fact that there were only three occupied tables at the time, the level of inattentive and delayed service was particularly disappointing and, frankly, perplexing.

Drinks were AMAZING! Bartender Rob made the best Negroni I've ever had. I asked him to use whatever gin he thought best--result was an artistic smooooooth full-bodied drink. Told him when I was done I'd lick the glass if it wasn't considered so uncouth for a 'mature' lady like myself to do so Hubby's Buffalo Trace bourbon old fashioned was also outstanding. Rob was the bartender last night who did such a great job, and his work was even better tonight. We highly recommend The EsquireTavern for excellent cocktails. We love the long wood bar and high copper ceiling upstairs, but love the intimate speakeasy atmosphere downstairs even more. We'll definitely be back every time we're in San Antonio! First review, Friday night: Drinks were great (Manhattan and Bourbon Old Fashioned). REAL drinks, no complaints at all about those. And the bartenders were very friendly and helpful. Those aspects of the Esquire get 5+ stars from us. But the appetizers were not good, close to inedible. It was about 8:30pm or so, so maybe they were getting ready to close out the kitchen but the chalupitas with chicken tasted like rubber, and no flavor at all. The seafood platter had something in it that was breading with shell inside, but no meat of any kind. We couldn't figure out what it was supposed to be. The shrimp was good and the fish was good but those other things... We'll always love the drinks, the long wooden bar, and the ambiance at the Esquire Tavern, but we'll eat somewhere else and come here for before or after dinner drinks. (See update above to this review for when we returned the next night for after dinner drinks.)
