Visited before attending a show at the Majestic. It is very convenient! The restaurant is beautiful, with a nod to the past with beautiful wood and nice place settings. My snapper with crab and scallop was overdone. The scallop, one tiny one, was charred and fairly dry. So glad I did not get the tempting special that was just scallops. The crab meat was just there, not much flavor, like lump crab typically has. The snapper was done fairly well, but still cooked a bit too long. The plate was very hot when placed at the table. For the price you're gonna pay, things better be on point and they definitely were not. Reservations were at 715. We arrived around 650 and the hostess was not the friendliest in the slightest. She sat us on a couch and let us know our table would be ready shortly. The bar service was slow and inattentive. Around 720 we requested status of our table and were rudely informed that the hostess was well aware that were were waiting and would be with us shortly. We waited and to our surprise received a text message that our table was ready around 730. We had no clue we were going go get a txt, communicate people. The evening was looking up with Andrew as our server. Pleasant and informative, he made suggestions that my date and I followed and were appreciative of. When my filet arrived, ordered medium, it was clearly over cooked. Andrew agreed and stated I had two choices, to eat it as is and it would be comped or to return it and the wait would be long. I initially stated I would eat it but upon another nibble I decided otherwise. Again, I went to a place that prides itself in it's steak to eat a good steak not one that I could get at Saltgrass. I informed Andrew who was a bit annoyed that I opted to return the steak and reiterated that it would be awhile. How is it that my steak is not expedited? My date and I waited and waited and seeing that he was nearly done with his meal, I canceled the order which further annoyed Andrew, but the wait was ridiculous. I knew it was gonna be a bit but not THAT LONG! After canceling, a good 10 min after, another server brings me the meat. I declined. What the heck! I canceled it and now the sides are cold and my date is done eating. Why are you bringing me the meat? Communicate amongst yourselves! All this to say, staff can use some customer service training and communication skills. I had been looking forward to this dinner, was disappointed and will not be returning. Excellent dinner! A group of 6 of us had dinner here our first night in San Antonio and it did not disappoint! Not only does the food deserve five stars but the service and atmosphere do as well too! Every thing that we ordered was delicious - we started with the Caesar salad with duck fried croutons and French onion soup, for entrees most of the group ordered steaks and someone also ordered the scallops. we shared a variety of sides as a table - Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, truffle fries and the lobster creamed corn. Everything was hot and flavorful. The filet I ordered was cooked perfectly and melted in your mouth. The bacon, cream spinach and potatoes were average at best. The lobster cream corn was disappointing. In this day and age, a well-thought out (and executed) cocktail is a rarity. We ordered a Shirley Temple and Arnold Palmer for the kiddos and an Eastside Cocktail (gin, lime, juice, sugar, cucumber and mint) and a Marie Antoinette (crushed ice cocktail) for myself and a scotch, neat, for the dad. The winner (for creativity) was the Marie Antoinette. We were escorted upstairs to a dining table that overlooked the Majestic Theater (Weird Al Yanovich was performing, so there were quite a few characters to observe). Our waiter was courteous and attentive as he brought out fresh bread and walked us through the specials. To start, we ordered lettuce wedge and caesar salad. For dinner, we settled on lump crab cakes, a 7 oz filet, 12 and 16 oz ribeyes (mine with a lobster tail), for sides, we chose mashed potatoes and portobello mushrooms (seriously divine!!), asparagus with crabmeat and hollandaise sauce, and creamed spinach. Dessert was amaretto cheesecake (hands down favorite), creme brûlée, deep dish pecan pie, and a chocolate silk pie wonder with a side of coffee. You're not going to get out of here for less than $200 (for a couple), and you won't even be mad about it. This is 20's era steakhouse dining and worth every penny. The chairs we had weren't the most comfy but not so bad I had to stand. I'm giving them five stars all around even though there were a couple things that should be addressed. Three people, three drinks, three appetizers or salads, three entrees, two shared side dishes ran close to two and a half Big Bills for us. But we loved every minute of it. There is a fine line between elegance and pretentiousness, and Bohanan's never crossed it. Our server Richard, was impeccable, polite, and classy but never even came close to being snooty. Our cocktails (Rich Man Mojito, Ward 8, and Right Hand) ran $12 or $13 each. My Ward 8 (whiskey, orange juice, lemon juice, club soda) was great! It was super refreshing and pretty potent. Our first course was a beautiful Caprese Salad with Heirloom tomato and mozzarella slices drizzled with Balsamic Vinegar for $16.95, Seared Sashimi Grade Tuna (Served with Sesame Seaweed Salad, Housemade Ponzu, Asian Aioli, Natural Pickled Ginger, and Wasabi for $19.95), and a Knife and Fork Caesar (Artisan Romaine, Heirloom Cherry Tomatoes, Duck-Fried Croutons and Aged Parmesan for $9.95). The Tuna app I had was excellent- beautifully sweet tuna slices with a soy based sauce and seawood salad garnish. Entrees were Char Grilled Jumbo Shrimp ($32.95, and two 16 oz Ribeyes ($47.95 each). I don't usually order steaks, but if I go to a steakhouse, that's what I'm getting. The steak I had was so good- just perfectly cooked and so flavorful. Dinners come without any accompaniments, so we all split two sides -Garlic Mashed potatoes ($6.95) and Jumbo Asparagus ($8.95). They were both excellent and so large they were easily splitable. I was recommended by a local in San Antonio that this is the place for a great steak. Suggest valet parking for $10.00 if you're enjoying a complete dinner since it will entail several hours. The décor upstairs in the dinning area is swanky and the classy bar downstairs was added on recently. In addition to Bohanan's regular cuts of meats offered from Chicago they also display a tray of bone in and specialty cuts along with special seafood offered - this evening was an oversized prawn. We started off with the lump crab appetizer which contained large chunks of crab and the portion was generous. For my main entrée I went with the 16 oz rib eye and we shared a side of the signature lobster cream corn and portabella mushrooms. Everything was awesome tasting. I even sampled the filet here and it was definitely the best I've ever tasted. (I usually don't care for filet because it's too lean). Lastly for dessert we finished with the Texas pecan pie & ice cream. This was bomb because they made it like a Soufflé which was unique and daring-but delicious. The service here was superb and equaled the quality of the food. This is at the top of my list of excellent steak houses to dine in North America and this is the only location. As we were finishing dinner, a friend of mine leans over and whispers to me that I make a better steak than Bohanan's. Now that is one huge compliment given that I thought that Bohanan's grills one of the best steaks in Texas. I love this place. The service is outstanding! The servers know the menu inside and out and are excellent in explaining in detail the differences between the cuts of beef and help you decide which you would like best. It's centrally located within a few short steps from the River Walk, yet far enough away that you are not subjected to the craziness. The ambiance is classic and suitable for any special occasion. There is a private dining room upstairs that can host large parties or corporate events. The wine list includes varietals from all corners of the planet and at every price point. Again your server can help find you a bottle that will pair perfectly with whatever dish(es) you decide on. Bohanan's also has one of the best bars in the city, if by chance you are in town alone this would be a perfect place to dine and chat with the bartenders or simply just come in for a nightcap. The chef also sent out a nice salad to start because it was Allen's birthday. My husband ordered a filet and it was the best steak I've ever had in my life. The piece I ate melted in my mouth. Since I'm a seafood lover I ordered a fish dish. I really enjoyed my redfish with lump crab and a scallop on top. It was delicious and with the two sides (creamed corn with lobster and mashed potatoes) we ordered there was more than enough for me to enjoy for lunch. We finished our meal with the pecan pie which was more than enough for two people and the perfect way to end the meal. Valet is well worth the $10 cost and can be added to your bill, just let your waiter know. I understand now why Allen loves this steakhouse. I'm just ruined by the pretentious attitude that we got from Cory. Very short with his words, didn't care to talk much (even though he cares enough to talk to and immediately serve another mixed couple?? Idk, I'm baffled) I'm rating this four stars for the food. Escargot was absolutely excellent. I've tried it with more of a French onion base and prefer that, but this creamy cheesy base was good as well. Didn't care for the hard bread- would've opted for a softer textured bread. The drink was strong and very nice: The filet was the best filet I've ever tasted in my life. I kept asking my S/O if I could taste more and more. The sea bass was also very excellent. A little buttery. We were both very satisfied with our meals. While the reviews on social media are positive, that was not our experience last night. The times are not exact but they're close enough to paint an accurate picture. Our party of four arrived at 8:05 for our 8:00 reservation and we were seated promptly. Multiple people were helping our table. We ordered drinks right away but they didn't arrive until 9:00. That pushed the rest of the dinner back and we didn't finish until 11:30. The food was all incredibly delicious and the atmosphere and vibe were great. The servers were professional but they were significantly understaffed for last night's crowd. One server admitted she forgot to place our initial drink order. While I appreciated her honesty, this compounded the problems. I chose not to withhold on the tip since the servers were professional but there just weren't enough of them. And it's not their responsibility to staff for the crowd (and how could you not expect a large crowd with Seinfeld at The Majestic across the street). But it's also not our responsibility or fault. Ultimately, the total was $800, 25% tip included, for the four of us and we didn't have an $800 experience. read more
