I came here for a work dinner and I have to say, the food was top tier. The steak was cooked to perfection. The sides were so good and didn't feel like an afterthought. The dessert really stood out too. They had this cake with gold on it that not only looked super cool but tased amazing! On top of that the staff was really kind and accommodating. Breakfast review. I didn't have such high expecations of Deans despite the high review score as I've been to the one in Austin and found it to be mediocre amid extremely strong competition. It seemed like everyone was overwhelmed - the hostess (who kept apologizing), the server(maybe servers). Had the pleasure to dine at Dean's Steak and Seafood on a quiet Saturday evening with my wife celebrating our anniversary. Upon entering the hotel, make an immediate right and the restaurant is located straight ahead. We were running a bit late due to parking however they did give us a courtesy call to confirm we were able to make it which was very nice of them. Now the entrees, we ordered the Center Cut New York Strip Texas Wagyu from cattle raised out in Alice, ordered it medium and it is 14oz, was a bit chewy and some areas a bit red maybe needed a bit more time otherwise it was really good. Our sides were the Thick Cut Onion Rings, large, crisp and panko breaded a bit on the salty side and also the baked Mac and cheese and it was nice and cheesy, we really enjoyed it. Now for the desert, my wife ordered the Colossal Carrot Cake and I must say the photo does no justice here, its creamy buttercream icing, generously portioned and full of sweet carrot cake, I am usually not a fan of buttercream or carrot cake but this really took the cake and I am a fan! Visited during fiesta week as well as while the playoffs and business conferences were happening nearby. I enjoyed dinner at their bar area since the restaurant was hosting a private party. The Ora King Salmon and a side of whipped potatoes was one of my absolute comfort food dinners I've had in a while. I savored a cocktail and wine while relaxing without any rush. The meat was perfectly seasoned and cooked and the entire combination complemented the meat so well it was a wonderful meal. We did order the billionaire's potatoes and somehow we talked ourselves into sharing a piece of carrot cake. We were beyond stuffed, but everything was so delicious. Had the chance to check out Dean's and it did not disappoint. It is a very nice upscale restaurant inside the Kimpton Santo which opened within the last year or so. From the get go we received excellent service and the meal was nicely spaced out so we didn't feel rushed. The food was on point with our steaks cooked perfectly. The proprietary rub they use on the steaks was very good and provided a nice char. My Heirloom Salad was excellent and could almost be enough for two people. I loved the Balsamic pearls that were on top of the tomatoes and Burrata. If you're into seafood they also have a great looking Oyster Bar. One of the main reasons I wanted to give them a try was their selection of Bourbons. If you're into high end bourbons or those elusive ones you've always wanted to try...this is the place to be. Fantastic selection and you'll feel like a kid in a candy store. When done, you should give their Speakeasy a try. A beautiful restaurant situated in Kimpton Santo. The raw bar seemed really cool right by the door. Service was great, we were offered their special rolls and butter before our food came. The Grand Plateau was fantastic, if you are looking to splurge on some seafood. Generous portion of perfect crab, biggest shrimp I have ever seen on one of these, and excellent oysters. The oysters were small and briny but tasted great. I believe they were Irish point and pink moon from PEI. Very nice! The lobster salad was great too, very flavorful like a New England lobster roll with extra onion. The sides were not huge portions imo. Plenty for two but not gigantic. Mac and cheese was good, did not care for the broccoli as it was burned yet cold! The carrot cake was huge and very rich. Service was great! The mashed potatoes were also incredible, perfectly creamy and flavorful. The lobster was good but didn't quite compare to what you'd expect from other high-end steakhouses, and while the steak itself was pretty good when served, it unfortunately didn't reheat very well the next day. From entering the dining space to leaving, we were greeted continually by not only our waiter, but the hostess and other staff. This has to be some of the best steak in San Antonio. Their wine is impressive with Lafite and DRC hanging out if only to remind you are you at the right place. The spirits list is equally as impressive, especially if you like whiskey and tequila. The reserve list was some bottle many have only read about. I ordered the 14 ounce and it did not disappoint; perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. The sear on the steak was by far the best I have had in San Antonio. They offer some toppings, they might be worth it, but it is definitely not needed. I cannot wait for construction to be over to male access easier. This is the best meal I've had all year and I cannot wait to come back! My husband was craving a good steak so we decided to check out Dean's Steakhouse. Unfortunately, their main restaurant was fully booked (not to self, make a reservation ahead of time), however the bar just outside the restaurant also offers their full food menu and you get to experience their delicious food but in a different environment. To start they brought their complimentary bread which was to die for. We then order the truffled bucatini and Santo Style steak, which is 14oz wagyu strip in a pipian sauce with grilled shrimp, and for a side we got their grilled mushrooms in guajillo glaze. The bucatini was delicious but I would've liked a little bit more cheese, or maybe some pecorino to give it a little more flavor. The steak was cooked to perfection and the pipian sauce was the most delicious sauce I've had ever. From now on I only want to eat my steak in that sauce. The mushrooms were also cooked to perfection and paired perfectly with the steak. Overall, this was a 10 stars experience and I am so happy to have tried this restaurant. I will definitely make sure to make a reservation ahead of time, but regardless I don't mind sitting at their bar as long as I get to order their amazing food. read more

We were only a party of 4, but service took quite a long time (2 hours), and there was only one other table there when we arrived. We noticed other tables getting their food ahead of ours, so I'm not sure what the deal with that was. The food was ok, some items were really great, but others were lackluster. The french onion soup was pretty good, but messy to eat. We also got a steak tartar which was really excellent (it was my first time trying). 2 of the 3 steaks for our table were not cooked correctly (medium well-came out medium rare and medium-came out medium rare) which is really not acceptable for the price. We didn't send them back because it took so long to get them by that time. My steak was cooked perfectly and was honestly super tender and flavorful. The broccoli side was sad, with only 4 stalks of broccoli that were overcooked and rubbery. The mac and cheese was great, but was a smaller portion than expected as a shareable side for that price. We got dessert to go and even that took about 20 minutes to come out and we were very ready to leave by that time. Overall it wasn't the experience we expected for the prices being paid and I would not return. read more

The hostess was very nice and friendly. We sat down and the service was very attentive. The ambiance is very chic and elevated. We started off with their bread and butter which was very unique and tasty. We had spicy margarita drinks and they were spot on with a good mixture. We got the sea food platter which was very expensive. It was 150$. It says market price on the menu and it is my bad not to ask how much is it for the day but never expected it to be that expensive. In fairness, we should have asked for the price before ordering, but we never imagined it would be 150 dollars. We assumed it would be around 50 or 60. When we received the bill, we were shocked. That unexpected appetizer price definitely put a thorn in the mood. To this day, it is an ongoing joke in our relationship about being boujee and asking for 150 dollar shrimp. We had oysters Rockefeller, raw oysters and bone marrow appetizers, all delicious. Then we had steaks. The bone in filet, the ribeye, the center cut filet. All perfect. We tried the pepina sauce which is kind of like a mole and really good. The bone marrow butter was also great. The onion rings were huge as was the potato. I was so excited to try this new steakhouse for Valentine's Day. My partner surprised me with the Bubbles & Truffles combo, where they greet you with champagne and chocolates--which was such a fun way to start the night! But things started to go downhill pretty quickly. First, I was so excited for the fluffy bread that's all over their Yelp page, but instead, we got hard, burnt sourdough that honestly just wrecked my hard palate. When I asked about the fluffy bread I saw at other tables, they told me they ran out--on Valentine's Day, their busiest night of the year. How does that even happen?! Then came the appetizers. We ordered the truffle honey burrata, expecting at least some truffle flavor, but there wasn't even a hint of it. It was just burrata, fruit, and--surprise!--the same sourdough I already disliked. Maybe that one's on me for not reading the description more carefully. The French onion soup? Easily my favorite thing of the night--rich and flavorful. For mains, we got the dry-aged ribeye with lobster butter and chimichurri and the Alamo filet. The filet (with the lobster) was definitely my favorite between the two. As for sides, the lobster mac & cheese was the clear winner over the creamed spinach. Dessert? The heavenly cake was actually heavenly. We devoured the whole thing. And then...the real show began. The valet situation was an absolute disaster. Not the restaurant's fault, but wow. Apparently, one of the valets disappeared with a bunch of the keys, and they couldn't reach him. We waited almost an hour, watching angry guests nearly start brawls over their missing cars. This place is inside a hotel, but there are actually two hotels in a cul-de-sac, with two separate valets and two very different crowds. We ended up sitting in our car for the longest time, overhearing a father ranting about running away from his responsibilities--apparently spending his money on strippers or gambling. So, overall? Service was terrible. Food was cold. We asked for water after cocktails and were told water would take a few minutes. We never got any. A man ordered a scotch meat, they gave him a whiskey sour and when he questioned it they tried to convince him that it was better than the McAllen 12 neat. This was our second attempt because the hotel is nice but it's just so bad and the staff does not care. Never again. read more
