[[HIGHLIGHT]]I'm truly mesmerized by this place! From the ambience to the food and service. Everything was 5/5![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Let's start with the ambience. Since the restaurant is connected to the Kimpton Santo, it has a nice chill vibe. They were playing the really good tunes from Frank Ocean to Childish Gambino![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The food smelled so good and the lobby itself had a clean feel.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We were greeted with nothing but smiles in the valet to the host stand but I really gotta give it to our server, Mr. Warren. He was so personable and attentive. I truly haven't had great service like this in a while. My girls and I would return just because of him! Last but not least, the food. Everything was carefully made and so fresh and delicious! You have to try the bourbon dessert. Their steaks are definitely A1! I can't wait to return :)

My steak and some lobster! All of it well prepared and delicious

This was our first time in San Antonio and Dean's was our first restaurant. What a welcome! Our steaks were cooked just the way we wanted them. The chocolate cake was decadent! We managed to finish it the next day . It's a bit fancy in there, but still light and welcoming. We left full and happy.

Wonderful dinner at Dean's Steak & Seafood! Everything we had was fantastic and we had the best service and dining experience with Gus. [[HIGHLIGHT]]He was very knowledgeable of the menu and the restaurant, which is a gorgeous adapted historic schoolhouse inside the Kimpton Santo hotel.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Each of the tables felt romantic and intimate, with a beautiful bar in the front of the restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Great place for a date or special occasion.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We got half a dozen oysters from the raw bar, the barrel cut filet, dry aged bi strip, whipped potatoes, and creamed spinach. Everything was delicious, and with really wonderful service from all of the staff. We will definitely be back and are happy to have found our favorite steak house in San Antonio.

I came here for a work dinner and I have to say, the food was top tier. The steak was cooked to perfection. The sides were so good and didn't feel like an afterthought. The dessert really stood out too. They had this cake with gold on it that not only looked super cool but tased amazing! On top of that the staff was really kind and accommodating. They made the whole experience better and I appreciated that I was able to take a few to go boxes. Overall a great espero e and definitely worth it.

We are at Deans again on Friday night and yet again had a phenomenal experience. The Study is always a great way to start the evening. Our bartender was VERY knowledgeable and friendly. Eric, our server whom we had the last time we were in, did a phenomenal job. He is friendly, knowledgeable, and very efficient. Our food was spot on! The app (oysters and crab legs) were fresh and tasty. We shared a 16oz bone in filet and it was cooked to perfection. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance inside the dining room is great!! The space is curated so well![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Steak and lobster Mac & Cheese

Possibly the best steak I've had in my life. It melts in your mouth and is perfectly seasoned, seared and buttered. The lobster baked Mac and cheese was amazing as well. The service is amazing, the cocktails are amazing. This whole place is amazing. Great for special occasions or a fancy dinner date night.

Made reservations on the same day for dinner, Friday at 7pm. It's located rignt next to the Kimpton Santo. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is pretty large and dimly lit. Super cute for date night or celebrations.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We got the tomahawk ribeye, mushroom and asparagus side. Got the Caesar for appetizer and everything we ordered was shared between 4 people. The smith & hook Cabernet paired well with the steak. The portions were perfect for everyone and the steak was perfectly made medium rare. Service was amazing and everyone was so friendly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I also brought my service animal and they were accommodating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Breakfast review. I didn't have such high expecations of Deans despite the high review score as I've been to the one in Austin and found it to be mediocre amid extremely strong competition. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The biggest positive is probably the decor and vibe ad the restaurant sits in a historical space.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] That was offset by less than stellar management. It seemed like everyone was overwhelmed - the hostess (who kept apologizing), the server(maybe servers). The place wasn't that busy and it took forever to wait for a table, or to get a server to see us and the overall flow of the joint was off. the food was pretty solid though - really liked my pancakes and the eggs benny and yogurt parfait also very good. I would eat breakfast here again for sure if I had it included in my hotel reservation at the Kimpton Santo through the Chase Edit (that's a whole other conversation).

Had the pleasure to dine at Dean's Steak and Seafood on a quiet Saturday evening with my wife celebrating our anniversary. Upon entering the hotel, make an immediate right and the restaurant is located straight ahead. We were running a bit late due to parking however they did give us a courtesy call to confirm we were able to make it which was very nice of them. We were immediately greeted by the hostess and quickly took us to our seats. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior is very dim, intimate, small however a great place to have an enjoyable dinner.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our waiter was very attentive, made great suggestions and ensured our needs were met and even acknowledged our anniversary! Now the food, we started with a couple of cocktails, my wife ordered the Cucumber Martini (not on menu) which was ok per my wife and I ordered the Dean's Smoked Manhattan, smoked edge with good amount of bourbon. Now the entrees, we ordered the Center Cut New York Strip Texas Wagyu from cattle raised out in Alice, ordered it medium and it is 14oz, was a bit chewy and some areas a bit red maybe needed a bit more time otherwise it was really good. Our sides were the Thick Cut Onion Rings, large, crisp and panko breaded a bit on the salty side and also the baked Mac and cheese and it was nice and cheesy, we really enjoyed it. Now for the desert, my wife ordered the Colossal Carrot Cake and I must say the photo does no justice here, its creamy buttercream icing, generously portioned and full of sweet carrot cake, I am usually not a fan of buttercream or carrot cake but this really took the cake and I am a fan! Overall, great staff, great food, amazing desert and be sure to reserve online to be seated quickly. I recommend you give Dean's a try, it is one of the best steak houses in San Antonio!

Came here for our anniversary. My second time and my husband first time. Service was amazing we had Liv as our server and she was just amazing. She knew everything on the menu and helped with recommendations. Food again was amazing. I was most excited for was the broccoli, we have lobster Mac and cheese, onion rings and twice baked potato and the tomahawk steak which was to die for, flavor seasoning and the cooking temp was just perfect. To finish off we had the key lime out which was delicious also. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance was nice, quite prob because it was a Thursday but still very nice.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Def recommend this place for a night date night or any celebration.

Visited during fiesta week as well as while the playoffs and business conferences were happening nearby. I enjoyed dinner at their bar area since the restaurant was hosting a private party. The Ora King Salmon and a side of whipped potatoes was one of my absolute comfort food dinners I've had in a while. I savored a cocktail and wine while relaxing without any rush. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The bar area is open but feels quite cozy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I had breakfast at the restaurant the next day and noticed how lovely it would be at night. Although the breakfast service was a bit slower, the staff was consistently friendly and welcoming. I would return here even if I weren't staying at the property.

    Billionaire's Potato

OUTSTANDING!! Great birthday dinner for hubby! Server-Warren great service Bread- amazing complimentary App- crab cake Excellent. Top 2 so far in SA. Salad- wedge not traditional blue cheese but that bacon/pork belly made the salad Steaks- wagyu New York Strip hubby said best steak he's had in his 72 years .. Even after eating a Akaushi steak at Bohanans. The classic filet delicious. Both steaks cooked to perfection loved the sear crust flavor. Outstanding flavor. Bourbon peppercorn sauce went great with strip. Side- Billionaire's potato needed a little more butter. Desert - key line homemade delicious crust outstanding Cocktails- paper plane/ gold rush / bartenders knowledgeable on how to make craft cocktails . Overall experience a 10 out of 10.

We chose Dean's Steak and Seafood for our anniversary dinner, we decided that we had tried the other major steakhouses and we heard such good things that we wanted to try something new. Our waiter Jason was so attentive. Our service was perfect, exactly what you would expect. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The dining area and bar are beautiful. There was plenty of seating and we had a view of the beautiful bar area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We started our meal with bread and drinks, they have an extensive wine list. We followed it with some East Coast oysters, which are so good and a must try for any oyster lover. For my entrée I had the classic which is an 8 ounce fillet with king crab meat covered in a beamaise sauce and served on top of asparagus. The meat was perfectly seasoned and cooked and the entire combination complemented the meat so well it was a wonderful meal. We did order the billionaire's potatoes and somehow we talked ourselves into sharing a piece of carrot cake. We were beyond stuffed, but everything was so delicious. I have no regrets and I'm so glad that I tried all of the dishes that I did. I highly recommend Dean's the stake and the seafood that I had was top notch exactly what you would expect.

Everyone was kind and friendly (except for the hostess downstairs who was rather dismissive). Sat upstairs for dinner on a Sunday in the beautiful front sunroom. To start off they serve you bread with a pickled jalapeno cream cheese dip which was the chef (owner?) mother's recipe. So good. I had the lamb chops which were devine. It seems like reservations are encouraged. At every visit, the servers greeted me with water and asked for my dietary preferences. You can tell that the servers all work together as I had other servers stop by to pack up my food and refill my water. I do love how they offer to pack up my leftovers and do so very nicely. 1st visit: My server was a sweetheart, very attentive, and super nice! I made reservations for 5PM on a Friday. I was one of the first to arrive, but the restaurant quickly filled up. I opted for the Mezas De Alegria, the server brought out Tirshi, Roasted Cabbage, Steamed Red Snapper, and Olive Oil Cake! All were very tasty, my favorites being the Tirshi and Steamed Red Snapped! I also ordered the Greek Wine flight, I enjoyed the Troupis wine best! Out of all of my dining experiences, this was by far my favorite! 2nd visit: My server was also attentive and kind. This time, I didn't make a reservation, I just walked in but was able to be seated at 11AM on a Sunday. I opted the for Turkish Brunch and the Mint Limonada, and they were able to accommodate my dietary preference! Everything was good once again, my favorites were the Grilled Olive and Tomato Salad, Fire Roasted Peppers, and Shakshuka. The Mint Limonada was too sweet for my preference, I had to water it down with some water. 3rd visit: My most recent server was very sweet and kind but wasn't as attentive. I made reservations for 5PM on Friday. She got held up by a table nearby a couple of times. I tried items from the Culinaria Restaurant Week Menu (Armenian Salad, Texas Waygu Kebabs, and Local Fruit Sorbet) Everything was soo good and flavorful. I really enjoyed the Armenian Salad. The Texas Waygu Kebabs were good, but a little chewy for my preference. They were cooked about Med-Well/Well done, though I prefer my beef to be cooked Medium, but I wasn't asked about my preference. I also wasn't given a steak knife and tried to wait for my server, but she was with another table for a while. I had to use my butter knife... The Local fruit sorbet was very refreshing and a light dessert to end my evening. Overall, great experiences, flavor-packed food! I enjoy Mediterranean food, so I'll be back to try more items off their menu!

But at my age anytime you are over ground is the best occasion. I have heard it is real fancy. And it is. Do not come in Crocs and sweatpants. This is not that restaurant. It is that restaurant where you should make reservations. It is also a place that emphasizes presentation and service. We came right when it opened and we informed the hostess of our reservations. We were seated in the bar area. Once inside I was struck by its ambience. It is sleek, dark and dare say "sexy." Our server, who was extremely attentive came to our table and took our drink orders. My partner ordered an Old Fashioned and me, a Lagunitas IPA. Whilst waiting for our drinks I looked over the room. One thing I noticed was a barrier that separated the bar area and the dining room. The Social Hour is meant, to socialize. I saw couples leaning into each other. Another group were drinking martinis with a seafood tower, almost touching the ceiling. Conversations were had. Romantic glances were exchanged. It isn't a casual place like Bubba's 33 nor Texas Roadhouse. It feels like a place best suited for a date night or an anniversary. I'm wondering how the dining room area is? The Social Hour does offer some drink and small bites specials. We ordered the kabob with pineapple, brussel sprouts, and sliders. They were all pretty great. It reminded me of the same experience as in partaking in tapas. I would remiss if I didn't relay our service here, it was excellent. Our server, Holiday(I hope I spelled it right.) treated us like we were the only patrons there. I've gone to upscale restaurants where staff looks at you up and down. Or they try to size you up. This is not that place. Which was so refreshing. If this place went above and beyond my expectations why didn't I give it four stars? In my opinion I think that a place that creates an upscale experience needs to have a few beers on tap. Even places like Wing Daddy's or Chili's offers a few beers on tap. Secondly, the bar area seating feels a bit tight. I wonder when the dinner crowd arrives would you be in the lap, of someone else's conversation? I still highly recommend this place. The Social Hour area is perfect for a date or an anniversary. The service and food were both excellent. And I've never been to a place where you are given warm hand towels. It reminded me of that scene with Adam Sandler in "The Wedding Singer" minus Billy Idol.

They've never relied on gimmicks or culinary trends--they've relied on the tried-and-true flavors that have maintained a loyal clientele for decades. I'm taking about hand-cut, primal cuts of beef grilled over real mesquite, delivering that unmistakable South Texas char. I'm referring to plump, wild-caught shrimp from the Gulf Coast, the famous yeast rolls, and tubs of homemade salad dressings. If you've been there, you know how special the overall experience has been. I've read many heartfelt comments on social media asking why such a successful institution would cease operations. Well, dear reader, I have a unique insight into why. Randy Stokes has poured his heart into the restaurant, but he merely leases the building--not the land--from the Straus family. Approximately seven months ago, Mr. Straus decided to sell the dirt beneath the "Barn" to a real estate developer. The plan? To raze this historic site and erect modern condos. It's a familiar story of urban expansion, but it doesn't make the loss any easier to swallow. But before we close the door on "The Barn" forever, a glimmer of hope looms on the horizon. Randy Stokes and his team aren't necessarily hanging up their aprons for good. According to a reliable anonymous source, the team has expressed a desire to reopen The Barn Door at a new location, with eyes set currently on the city's North Side. I hope the promise of a new location comes to fruition, but even if The Barn Door closes forever, I will cherish all the wonderful memories of dining there with my parents and grandparents over the years. I will remember the ingratiating staff, the unique ambience, and the hundreds of delicious meals I've crammed down my gullet.

It's a sketchy area to walk behind the restaurant to the Speakeasy. Anyhow, I ordered the chicken fried ribeye, jalapeño twice baked potato. Now, the potato was great. I didn't care for the ribeye and didn't eat it. The salad was right out of the bag. Iceberg, shredded carrots and cabbage with 5 bagged croutons. What happened? It wasn't like that before. My cream spinach came out late, and we weren't charged for it, which was nice. My brother in laws filet was too done. He asked for medium, and it was medium well. He ate it anyway. They used to have a 6oz ladies filet, but they don't. The server wasn't perfect, but we lived. IF I return, I'll skip the salad, get the filet and potato.

I'm glad they had room for us but, it's still safe to make reservations. We did not know they are a tapas style restaurant, but that didn't deter us. And we were pleasantly surprised at the size of their "tapas". What we ordered was enough for two people to share. Dumplings - 9/10 Gulf Shrimp & Noodles - 10/10 Blistered Green Beans - 10/10 Ramen - 9/10 Service was great. It's a casual atmosphere, but perfect for an intimate date night.

A bit messy to eat but I would get this again. Udon noodle with pork belly: noodles were kind of irregular in lengths. I really liked the sauce with it but it felt like it was missing something. Light dish. Tc double cheese burger: very strong flavors, somewhat sweet. Dense/heavy dish . Our waiter was quick and friendly. The restaurant lighting was dimmed and gave a more intimate /bar environment. I think the ac was broken here because it was very warm and they had fans going on around the room. I think this place would be good for someone who is prefers an American fusion cuisine that leans heavily on the western style dishes. The fusion elements were cute but I still left unsatisfied but still full. We did not park. We walked here right from the river walk. Not a bad place to go if you arrive in town after 9 pm.
