The staff made my 60th birthday absolutely unforgettable! They had our table set for 12 with birthday confetti, making it feel so special. Amy, our server, was amazing--friendly, attentive, and truly outstanding. The food was top-notch, and the service was exceptional. A perfect experience from start to finish. 10/10 across the board!

Steak is excellent. Pasta was underwhelming. Service was absolutely above and beyond.

4.5 stars I used to frequent The Palm back in the day when it was on Santa Monica Blvd in Cali. A friend of mine had a caricature of himself above the bar. While wondering around Downtown San Antonio, I was craving an ice-cold martini with blue cheese stuffed olives. My friend and I happened to pass by this place, so we stopped in. It was a Friday evening and I was surprised that the place was fairly empty, especially the bar. We grabbed two seats and marveled at the abundance of caricatures on the wall. I requested my martini, and it was perfection in a glass. My friend got The Palm Old Fashioned, which was expertly made. We ordered the Calamari Fritto Misto to share. Each piece was perfectly fried and crispy. The addition of peppers & roasted garlic was a nice addition, as was the side of lemon aioli. The ladies behind the par were delightful and attentive, which made our evening more enjoyable.

I cannot figure out why The Palm has such a low review score...We've been here many times and are always so happy with everything about our visits. Last night we went before a show at the Majestic...they were warm and accommodating from the hostesses to the managers. Our server, Natasha, was on it. She was very attentive and her timing was perfect. My husband drinks fast lol and she never let his glass get empty. I saw something I don't think I've ever seen...the manager, Nicole, was walking around constantly checking in on tables and I even saw her picking up some plates...the GM also cruised through checking on tables....wow! The ambiance is intimate and they have candles on every table. They were very busy, but it wasn't too loud. Last year we came on our anniversary and they had happy anniversary confetti on the table. So don't hesitate to celebrate your special occasions with them! Our food was delicious! We were eating lightly, didn't get a main entree. We had the crab cake appetizer, lobster bisque and wedge salad. The crab and lobster are fresh...the dishes were fantastic! Can't wait to go again!

Ask for Jarvis. Excellent service and food. He was helpful without being overbearing and timed courses well.

Downtown for an appointment that finished at 5 o'clock and not wanting to sit in traffic for my cross-town trip home, I decided to come to the Palm for a happy hour drink to wait it out and glad I did. When I walk in, I was the only the person in the restaurant, so I took a seat at the bar and was greeted by the friendliest bartender named Frajana. She gave me the happy hour menu which has some really great prices and game me some recommendations for appetizers. So, I start with a margarita on the rocks and order the steakhouse bacon blt as an appetizer. The margarita she made was excellent and it didn't last long so I decided to try the Moscow mule next. Since I was the only customer, Frajana indulged me with some pleasant conversation on local cuisine options and travel destinations from her home state. When the blt came out I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was not served on toast but in two separate bao buns with a special tomato jam and pickled veggies on the side. This is not what I expected but I love bao buns and this blt was awesome. The bacon had a smokiness and a sweet glaze to it that was just made for a great flavor profile. The contrast of the pickled veggies with the sweetness of the bacon and the tomato jam made for a delicious bite that I will not soon forget. Washing it down with perfectly made Moscow mule just made it that much better. Thanks again to Frajana for the recommendation. At this point a second customer walks in and she sits at the end of the bar by herself, so we invite her to join us since she was from out of town. Frajana takes her to go order and while we're all there we all strike up a conversation that went on for a good 30 minutes just us three. Finally, I order an Old Fashioned with Frajana's special recipe and of course it is delicious as advertised. So, overall, what I expected to be a 30-minute stop off turned out to be a very pleasant 2-hour adventure where I had some great food, drinks and made two new friends. I have to say it was a good day. Thanks to Frajana and the staff at The Palm and our friend from Houston for their kindness. I will be back in two weeks for dinner before the show at the Majestic.

I ate here as part of a coordinated group event following a conference and was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. It's spacious, wasn't busy the evening of our visit, and was just around the corner from our hotel. We were promptly seated in their open dining area with large tables that allowed better socializing among our group compared to booths, and didn't get very loud. The night prior at another restaurant, we were elbow to elbow trying to shout over everyone else in the restaurant to be heard. The Palm was very nice and relaxing. I ordered the Blood Orange Margarita that was very tasty, and the 6 oz steak with asparagus. The steak was flavorful and cooked to perfection. A little pricy for my expectations but the food, ambience, and service were on point to make it a worthwhile treat. The restaurant is decorated with images of patrons and celebrities that have visited. There's a lot to see and enjoy in this piece of history.

The Palm is interesting. I liked the swanky, old-fashioned vibes, but the TVs above the bar distracted from the candlelight on the white-clothed tables and the pretty booths. The faces of "celebrities" painted on the walls were also interesting--we sat next to Tom Hanks and Judith Zaffirini. Service was VERY SLOW! We had reservations for 5:15, but had to RUN to our seats at the Majestic show (directly across the street) that started at 7:30 (they were closing the doors!). Many tables around us came and went while we waited. It was still Restaurant Week, but we had to ask for that special menu. Unlike some venues, the Restaurant Week menu is actually a deal here. I got a salad, steak, mashed potatoes, and dessert for $55 (not including tax and tip). There were a lot of optional upcharges on that menu: $10 extra if you chose cheesecake for dessert. Many things on the menu cost way more. You could come for drinks and appetizers and spend less. Unfortunately, the meal was not good. The bread basket was excellent; it had four of five different types of bread that were all soft, warm, and tasty. The Caesar salad had hardly any cheese, and the croutons were too large and hard as rocks. The steak was cooked well but so salty I could barely eat it. My friend got the steak, too, and said the same thing. My other friends seemed to like their chicken parm and lobster ravioli. The mashed potatoes were fine. The dessert was a type of cinnamon covered doughnut holes with 3 dipping sauces; it was just ok. I didn't eat it all. The bathroom had one of those toilets that spray the seat with every flush so it was wet when I sat down. I don't feel compelled to go back.

I hadn't been to The Palm in some time, so I stopped into the bar for a cocktail before a Tobin performance and tried the holiday cocktail: Seasons Greetings which has muddled strawberries, Prosecco and vodka - it was very good and included a special surprise in the red envelope (so clever and generous)! Definitely give it a try this holiday season. I also tried a couple bar bite items: the calamari with lemon aioli and the garlic bread with three dipping sauces (the bartender's recommendation). After tasting these bites I actually exclaimed, "these are so good!" I was impressed and will stop in again when I have more time. This restaurant has a romantic, candlelit lighting in the evening and is a great first impression/date night location.

As a select club member with Laundry's, yearly we like to try a different Laundry's restaurant for utilization of our birthday reward and this year, The Palm was selected. Ambiance: It's located right in the heart of Downtown therefore busy streets but they do have Valet. That process was smooth. Inside it was dimly lit with soft music playing in the background. Service: Was ok. No one was rude however, just wasn't overly friendly. It was average. There was a bit of a mixup with the reward however, after the 3rd receipt of corrections, the manager finally assisted to complete the task of getting mine taken care of. Food: I enjoyed the Shrimp Bruno & Shrimp Sauté. I would recommend if asked & the person had never been but, I don't see myself frequently coming at this time.

Stopped for lunch during our staycation.. the service we received from Amy was impeccable. She made my husband's birthday special.. sprinkled birthday confetti on the table.. wrote Happy Birthday, with chocolate, on the plate with cheesecake. The ambiance was great. My salad was amazing. The bread was warm and delicious.. it had a variety of breads. The calamari was lightly breaded and perfectly cooked. My husband had the Caesar salad and penne pasta (forgot to take a pic) but really enjoyed it.. I will be back

My boyfriend--now fiancé--planned the most beautiful surprise proposal at this restaurant, and I truly cannot put into words how incredible the experience was. I had no idea what was happening all night, but behind the scenes, Manager Belinda and our amazing server Jarvis were helping make everything absolutely perfect. The level of care, detail, and love they put into this moment was beyond anything I could have imagined. They stayed an hour and a half past closing time--along with the entire restaurant staff--just to make sure everything went smoothly. That kind of dedication is rare and speaks volumes about the heart of this establishment. Belinda and Jarvis went above and beyond in every possible way. If they don't receive recognition or a raise, they truly are not appreciated enough. The food was a 10/10, the service was a 10/10, and the atmosphere was unforgettable. I have never felt so supported, celebrated, and cared for by a restaurant team. We will absolutely be back for our anniversary next year--and many more special moments to come. I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant. Don't even look at the prices--the experience alone is worth it. Thank you for making one of the most important nights of our lives magical.

It seems like reservations are encouraged. At every visit, the servers greeted me with water and asked for my dietary preferences. You can tell that the servers all work together as I had other servers stop by to pack up my food and refill my water. I do love how they offer to pack up my leftovers and do so very nicely. 1st visit: My server was a sweetheart, very attentive, and super nice! I made reservations for 5PM on a Friday. I was one of the first to arrive, but the restaurant quickly filled up. I opted for the Mezas De Alegria, the server brought out Tirshi, Roasted Cabbage, Steamed Red Snapper, and Olive Oil Cake! All were very tasty, my favorites being the Tirshi and Steamed Red Snapped! I also ordered the Greek Wine flight, I enjoyed the Troupis wine best! Out of all of my dining experiences, this was by far my favorite! 2nd visit: My server was also attentive and kind. This time, I didn't make a reservation, I just walked in but was able to be seated at 11AM on a Sunday. I opted the for Turkish Brunch and the Mint Limonada, and they were able to accommodate my dietary preference! Everything was good once again, my favorites were the Grilled Olive and Tomato Salad, Fire Roasted Peppers, and Shakshuka. The Mint Limonada was too sweet for my preference, I had to water it down with some water. 3rd visit: My most recent server was very sweet and kind but wasn't as attentive. I made reservations for 5PM on Friday. She got held up by a table nearby a couple of times. I tried items from the Culinaria Restaurant Week Menu (Armenian Salad, Texas Waygu Kebabs, and Local Fruit Sorbet) Everything was soo good and flavorful. I really enjoyed the Armenian Salad. The Texas Waygu Kebabs were good, but a little chewy for my preference. They were cooked about Med-Well/Well done, though I prefer my beef to be cooked Medium, but I wasn't asked about my preference. I also wasn't given a steak knife and tried to wait for my server, but she was with another table for a while. I had to use my butter knife... The Local fruit sorbet was very refreshing and a light dessert to end my evening. Overall, great experiences, flavor-packed food! I enjoy Mediterranean food, so I'll be back to try more items off their menu!

But at my age anytime you are over ground is the best occasion. I have heard it is real fancy. And it is. Do not come in Crocs and sweatpants. This is not that restaurant. It is that restaurant where you should make reservations. It is also a place that emphasizes presentation and service. We came right when it opened and we informed the hostess of our reservations. We were seated in the bar area. Once inside I was struck by its ambience. It is sleek, dark and dare say "sexy." Our server, who was extremely attentive came to our table and took our drink orders. My partner ordered an Old Fashioned and me, a Lagunitas IPA. Whilst waiting for our drinks I looked over the room. One thing I noticed was a barrier that separated the bar area and the dining room. The Social Hour is meant, to socialize. I saw couples leaning into each other. Another group were drinking martinis with a seafood tower, almost touching the ceiling. Conversations were had. Romantic glances were exchanged. It isn't a casual place like Bubba's 33 nor Texas Roadhouse. It feels like a place best suited for a date night or an anniversary. I'm wondering how the dining room area is? The Social Hour does offer some drink and small bites specials. We ordered the kabob with pineapple, brussel sprouts, and sliders. They were all pretty great. It reminded me of the same experience as in partaking in tapas. I would remiss if I didn't relay our service here, it was excellent. Our server, Holiday(I hope I spelled it right.) treated us like we were the only patrons there. I've gone to upscale restaurants where staff looks at you up and down. Or they try to size you up. This is not that place. Which was so refreshing. If this place went above and beyond my expectations why didn't I give it four stars? In my opinion I think that a place that creates an upscale experience needs to have a few beers on tap. Even places like Wing Daddy's or Chili's offers a few beers on tap. Secondly, the bar area seating feels a bit tight. I wonder when the dinner crowd arrives would you be in the lap, of someone else's conversation? I still highly recommend this place. The Social Hour area is perfect for a date or an anniversary. The service and food were both excellent. And I've never been to a place where you are given warm hand towels. It reminded me of that scene with Adam Sandler in "The Wedding Singer" minus Billy Idol.

As I reminisce on my final (?) meal at The Barn Door earlier today, I have difficulty expressing…read morehow sad I feel to lose a landmark that has served as a second home for generations of San Antonians. For 73 years, The Barn Door has been more than a great restaurant; it has been an inexorable piece of San Antonio history. Last week, The Barn Door announced on Facebook that its final day of service will be Sunday, May 11th (Mother's Day). The Barn Door has been an outstanding steakhouse in the truest sense. They've never relied on gimmicks or culinary trends--they've relied on the tried-and-true flavors that have maintained a loyal clientele for decades. I'm taking about hand-cut, primal cuts of beef grilled over real mesquite, delivering that unmistakable South Texas char. I'm referring to plump, wild-caught shrimp from the Gulf Coast, the famous yeast rolls, and tubs of homemade salad dressings. If you've been there, you know how special the overall experience has been. I've read many heartfelt comments on social media asking why such a successful institution would cease operations. Well, dear reader, I have a unique insight into why. Randy Stokes has poured his heart into the restaurant, but he merely leases the building--not the land--from the Straus family. Approximately seven months ago, Mr. Straus decided to sell the dirt beneath the "Barn" to a real estate developer. The plan? To raze this historic site and erect modern condos. It's a familiar story of urban expansion, but it doesn't make the loss any easier to swallow. But before we close the door on "The Barn" forever, a glimmer of hope looms on the horizon. Randy Stokes and his team aren't necessarily hanging up their aprons for good. According to a reliable anonymous source, the team has expressed a desire to reopen The Barn Door at a new location, with eyes set currently on the city's North Side. I hope the promise of a new location comes to fruition, but even if The Barn Door closes forever, I will cherish all the wonderful memories of dining there with my parents and grandparents over the years. I will remember the ingratiating staff, the unique ambience, and the hundreds of delicious meals I've crammed down my gullet.

It's a sketchy area to walk behind the restaurant to the Speakeasy. Anyhow, I ordered the chicken fried ribeye, jalapeño twice baked potato. Now, the potato was great. I didn't care for the ribeye and didn't eat it. The salad was right out of the bag. Iceberg, shredded carrots and cabbage with 5 bagged croutons. What happened? It wasn't like that before. My cream spinach came out late, and we weren't charged for it, which was nice. My brother in laws filet was too done. He asked for medium, and it was medium well. He ate it anyway. They used to have a 6oz ladies filet, but they don't. The server wasn't perfect, but we lived. IF I return, I'll skip the salad, get the filet and potato.

I'm glad they had room for us but, it's still safe to make reservations. We did not know they are a tapas style restaurant, but that didn't deter us. Dumplings - 9/10 Gulf Shrimp & Noodles - 10/10 Blistered Green Beans - 10/10 Ramen - 9/10 Service was great. It's a casual atmosphere, but perfect for an intimate date night.

A bit messy to eat but I would get this again. Udon noodle with pork belly: noodles were kind of irregular in lengths. I really liked the sauce with it but it felt like it was missing something. Light dish. Tc double cheese burger: very strong flavors, somewhat sweet. Dense/heavy dish . Our waiter was quick and friendly. The restaurant lighting was dimmed and gave a more intimate /bar environment. I think the ac was broken here because it was very warm and they had fans going on around the room. I think this place would be good for someone who is prefers an American fusion cuisine that leans heavily on the western style dishes. The fusion elements were cute but I still left unsatisfied but still full. We did not park. We walked here right from the river walk. Not a bad place to go if you arrive in town after 9 pm.
