We chose The Palm to celebrate our anniversary, and the entire evening felt special from the moment we arrived. The ambience set the tone right away; warm lighting, classic steakhouse elegance, and a lively but comfortable atmosphere that made it feel both celebratory and relaxed. It was the perfect setting for a special night. We started at the bar with drinks: The Palm Old Fashioned for my husband and a Lemon Drop for me, and also enjoyed a glass of Malbec. Everything was balanced and well crafted, a perfect way to begin the evening. For appetizers we ordered the Tuna Crudo and the Beef Tenderloin Carpaccio. The carpaccio truly melted in our mouths and was one of those dishes you pause for a moment to savor. The Lobster Bisque followed, beautifully presented and rich in flavor -- comforting yet refined. For the main course we decided to share the Osso Bucco. It's a dish that can be difficult to execute well, but they absolutely nailed it. The meat was incredibly tender, soft, and full of flavor -- the kind of dish you keep talking about long after the meal. What really elevated the night, though, was the service. Tito, our bartender, Our host, truly made our evening and helped make our anniversary celebration memorable. My boyfriend--now fiancé--planned the most beautiful surprise proposal at this restaurant, and I truly cannot put into words how incredible the experience was. I had no idea what was happening all night, but behind the scenes, Manager Belinda and our amazing server Jarvis were helping make everything absolutely perfect. The level of care, detail, and love they put into this moment was beyond anything I could have imagined. They stayed an hour and a half past closing time--along with the entire restaurant staff--just to make sure everything went smoothly. That kind of dedication is rare and speaks volumes about the heart of this establishment. Belinda and Jarvis went above and beyond in every possible way. If they don't receive recognition or a raise, they truly are not appreciated enough. The food was a 10/10, the service was a 10/10, and the atmosphere was unforgettable. 4.5 stars I used to frequent The Palm back in the day when it was on Santa Monica Blvd in Cali. A friend of mine had a caricature of himself above the bar. While wondering around Downtown San Antonio, I was craving an ice-cold martini with blue cheese stuffed olives. My friend and I happened to pass by this place, so we stopped in. It was a Friday evening and I was surprised that the place was fairly empty, especially the bar. We grabbed two seats and marveled at the abundance of caricatures on the wall. I requested my martini, and it was perfection in a glass. My friend got The Palm Old Fashioned, which was expertly made. We ordered the Calamari Fritto Misto to share. Each piece was perfectly fried and crispy. The addition of peppers & roasted garlic was a nice addition, as was the side of lemon aioli. I cannot figure out why The Palm has such a low review score...We've been here many times and are always so happy with everything about our visits. Last night we went before a show at the Majestic...they were warm and accommodating from the hostesses to the managers. Our server, Natasha, was on it. She was very attentive and her timing was perfect. My husband drinks fast lol and she never let his glass get empty. I saw something I don't think I've ever seen...the manager, Nicole, was walking around constantly checking in on tables and I even saw her picking up some plates...the GM also cruised through checking on tables....wow! The ambiance is intimate and they have candles on every table. They were very busy, but it wasn't too loud. Last year we came on our anniversary and they had happy anniversary confetti on the table. So don't hesitate to celebrate your special occasions with them! Our food was delicious! We were eating lightly, didn't get a main entree. Downtown for an appointment that finished at 5 o'clock and not wanting to sit in traffic for my cross-town trip home, I decided to come to the Palm for a happy hour drink to wait it out and glad I did. When I walk in, I was the only the person in the restaurant, so I took a seat at the bar and was greeted by the friendliest bartender named Frajana. She gave me the happy hour menu which has some really great prices and game me some recommendations for appetizers. So, I start with a margarita on the rocks and order the steakhouse bacon blt as an appetizer. The margarita she made was excellent and it didn't last long so I decided to try the Moscow mule next. Since I was the only customer, Frajana indulged me with some pleasant conversation on local cuisine options and travel destinations from her home state. When the blt came out I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was not served on toast but in two separate bao buns with a special tomato jam and pickled veggies on the side. This is not what I expected but I love bao buns and this blt was awesome. The bacon had a smokiness and a sweet glaze to it that was just made for a great flavor profile. The contrast of the pickled veggies with the sweetness of the bacon and the tomato jam made for a delicious bite that I will not soon forget. Washing it down with perfectly made Moscow mule just made it that much better. Thanks again to Frajana for the recommendation. At this point a second customer walks in and she sits at the end of the bar by herself, so we invite her to join us since she was from out of town. Frajana takes her to go order and while we're all there we all strike up a conversation that went on for a good 30 minutes just us three. Finally, I order an Old Fashioned with Frajana's special recipe and of course it is delicious as advertised. So, overall, what I expected to be a 30-minute stop off turned out to be a very pleasant 2-hour adventure where I had some great food, drinks and made two new friends. I have to say it was a good day. Thanks to Frajana and the staff at The Palm and our friend from Houston for their kindness. I ate here as part of a coordinated group event following a conference and was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. It's spacious, wasn't busy the evening of our visit, and was just around the corner from our hotel. We were promptly seated in their open dining area with large tables that allowed better socializing among our group compared to booths, and didn't get very loud. The night prior at another restaurant, we were elbow to elbow trying to shout over everyone else in the restaurant to be heard. The Palm was very nice and relaxing. I ordered the Blood Orange Margarita that was very tasty, and the 6 oz steak with asparagus. The steak was flavorful and cooked to perfection. A little pricy for my expectations but the food, ambience, and service were on point to make it a worthwhile treat. The Palm is interesting. I liked the swanky, old-fashioned vibes, but the TVs above the bar distracted from the candlelight on the white-clothed tables and the pretty booths. The faces of "celebrities" painted on the walls were also interesting--we sat next to Tom Hanks and Judith Zaffirini. Service was VERY SLOW! We had reservations for 5:15, but had to RUN to our seats at the Majestic show (directly across the street) that started at 7:30 (they were closing the doors!). Many tables around us came and went while we waited. It was still Restaurant Week, but we had to ask for that special menu. Unlike some venues, the Restaurant Week menu is actually a deal here. I got a salad, steak, mashed potatoes, and dessert for $55 (not including tax and tip). There were a lot of optional upcharges on that menu: $10 extra if you chose cheesecake for dessert. Many things on the menu cost way more. You could come for drinks and appetizers and spend less. Unfortunately, the meal was not good. The bread basket was excellent; it had four of five different types of bread that were all soft, warm, and tasty. The Caesar salad had hardly any cheese, and the croutons were too large and hard as rocks. The steak was cooked well but so salty I could barely eat it. My friend got the steak, too, and said the same thing. My other friends seemed to like their chicken parm and lobster ravioli. The mashed potatoes were fine. The dessert was a type of cinnamon covered doughnut holes with 3 dipping sauces; it was just ok. I didn't eat it all. The bathroom had one of those toilets that spray the seat with every flush so it was wet when I sat down. I don't feel compelled to go back. read more

I hadn't been to The Palm in some time, so I stopped into the bar for a cocktail before a Tobin performance and tried the holiday cocktail: Seasons Greetings which has muddled strawberries, Prosecco and vodka - it was very good and included a special surprise in the red envelope (so clever and generous)! Definitely give it a try this holiday season. I also tried a couple bar bite items: the calamari with lemon aioli and the garlic bread with three dipping sauces (the bartender's recommendation). After tasting these bites I actually exclaimed, "these are so good!" I was impressed and will stop in again when I have more time. As a select club member with Laundry's, yearly we like to try a different Laundry's restaurant for utilization of our birthday reward and this year, The Palm was selected. Ambiance: It's located right in the heart of Downtown therefore busy streets but they do have Valet. That process was smooth. Inside it was dimly lit with soft music playing in the background. Service: Was ok. No one was rude however, just wasn't overly friendly. It was average. There was a bit of a mixup with the reward however, after the 3rd receipt of corrections, the manager finally assisted to complete the task of getting mine taken care of. Made last minute reservation for a light dinner, arrived @6pm, and got warm welcome greetings and seated with preferred area-- private booth. Inside soothing background music playing with dimmed light, it definitely helps you cool down in a weather like more than 90 F. Ordered the cappuccino and lobsters puréed soup , plus sweet ending dark chocolate cake with white milk topping on the side. For the Cappuccino, the fried cape really added great surprise to it, the raw beef is a little on the dry side, but the sauce helped with it, yum 55tar for it. Ordered the popular lobster soup with high expectation, a bit of salty to me which wiped off other layers of taste , only 3 star to me. We stopped in at the opening of dinner during the weekday. The restaurant appeared quiet and just a handful of customers at the bar. My husband ordered the steak which was excellent. I ordered the lobster for two. The waiter's removal of the lobster shell presentation was impressive! It was beautiful! However, the lobster failed in taste. It was not flavorful, tender, it wasn't edible. To say the least, not to my liking. The Manager stopped by our table and asked us, "how was everything?" I explained to her although the lobster presentation was very impressive, but the lobster meat was not at all succulent, nor tender. It was extremely chewy, and I wasn't very happy with it. She smiled and brushed me off and walked on by us as if it's a great compliment, and proceeded to walk on without another word. The Palm charges fine dining prices for mediocre food. Do not waste your money eating here, you can do far better for actual steakhouse fine dining at Bohanon's , Capital Grille, or Bob's (or do at least as well as the Palm, for far less money, at Texas Roadhouse). For three decades before The Palm was purchased by Landry's we had been dining there every couple of months, with consistently good experiences. Our first trip there post-pandemic was also our first time there after the takeover by Landry's. That visit was so horrible that we did not go back for five years. We decided to try again on Mother's Day 2026 because my wife wanted broiled lobster (not lobster tail) and we figured that they must have gotten better in those five years or they wouldn't still be in business. We were wrong! We arrived at 6:30 to a nearly empty dining room. Regrettably, we did not take that as a hint to go elsewhere to eat. The bar did not know the ingredients of a cocktail featured on their bar menu. They took an order for a 3-pound lobster (the smallest size on the menu) and came back 15 minutes later to tell us they were out of lobster. Where we were seated we could see what the servers were carrying into the dining room, and they hadn't brought out any lobsters, meaning that they had no lobsters, one of their featured items, at the start of dinner service on Mother's Day! Even worse, they didn't bother to inform their waiters, so they took an order they could not fill. Perhaps being out of lobster saved us from being served an improperly cooked lobster. The lamb, something pre-Landry's Palm always cooked to perfection, was ordered medium rare but came medium. The risotto was almost too salty to eat. The Ceasar salad was mediocre. They still have carrot cake on the dessert menu, but instead of the seven-layer cake from New York that they used to serve, they now serve a five-layer one made in-house and nowhere near as good. We will not try to eat at the Palm again! read more

I've seen The Palm while visiting Houston for years but never dined there. Always wanted to try it; the problem was it's competition just a few blocks away. Pappas Brothers Steakhouse is considered by many including Texas Monthly to be THE steakhouse in Texas. They walked back on that claim a bit afterwards and named Perini Ranch the best TEXAS steakhouse. Naming Pappas the best "fine dining" steakhouse instead. Now I'm in San Antonio staying a few nights downtown and it's my chance to finally try it. Yes, I'm aware that the restaurant group has been taken over by Landry's which I loathe. I appreciate a fine dining establishment that's actually open for lunch! Dragged the whole Rooster clan into a big booth and ordered the biggest steak on the menu. Talk about the meat in a few; first try Clams Casino and Clams Oreganata. Hard to find a dish like this off the east coast and I think it's the first time I've ever seen it on a menu in Texas. Nice flavors; I was the only taker on this dish as the see weed presentation wasn't appealing to some. Mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, and Palm's half and half. That's French fried onion strings and potato chips. Huge asparagus too. All were exemplary in flavor. The 32oz Tomahawk Ribeye was presented to us uncut for photographic purposes and then cut in the kitchen. I'd definitely put this steak in my top 10! I ate as much as I could before my teenager finished it off and that included gnawing on the long bone. Dessert was also 97% consumed by my dude Rooster. The Palm was amazing. From the service to the food to the environment. I had a great experience at the restaurant. Also I want to shout out to the staff for their professionalism. When I arrived there was a birthday group that were being loud and obnoxious. It's not the type of happy birthday loud. But I was the type of loud behavior that would make one cringe with their remarks they were making and table manners as well. The staff was very professional and considerate of all others in the restaurant, checking on us and making sure we were okay and apologizing for the group's behavior. Thank you for being so nice staff and professional with everyone in the restaurant and not letting that behavior get to you. The food was amazing. My steak was a perfect medium. The power lunch is three courses: soup or salad, entree, dessert. Additional sides are extra. Bread basket is served while you wait. Delicious bread. I went with Caesar salad, catch of the day which was trout and cheesecake. Also a cup of coffee and the three-cheese potatoes au gratin Husband went a la carte with the Caesar, linguini with white clam sauce and the side of grilled mushrooms. The clams are in the shell, so a little work is involved. All was very tasty. I thought the power lunch portions would be smaller, but they were pretty much full size. Not a bad deal for $26, if you can resist adding on items. Ha, ha. Not. Our server Chris was very nice. I love the food and service at the Palm. The food is consistently good and the drinks are always amazing. I love their steaks but all the sides are so good as well. The ambiance is nice with an old world club kind of way. What makes it extra special is the location right downtown near the Riverwalk and the Majestic. Wife and I at at the Palm on Saturday, 6/8/2024 and was incredibly disappointed. First, we had reservations for 7:30 pm and there were probably only 3 other tables that were occupied. We ordered two cocktails to enjoy prior to dinner, and they were very good, however took a long time to arrive, given the very few patrons in the restaurant. I ordered the Ribeye, medium rare; and my wife ordered the filet, medium rare. After both of us tasting her filet, we sent it back, as for a filet it was on the drier side and was actually very tough. The server gave it up to a bad cut, which I could accept. We sent her second filet back for the same issues! Neither my wife nor I are very picky, but when paying close to $60 for a cut of meat, it is expected to be good. I ended up sharing my Ribeye with my wife, which was fine. Believe it or not, we didn't finish the Ribeye, due to the saltiness of the seasoning. We were speaking with the manager, who was very apologetic, about the issues we had, and I made the comment that the seasoning was VERY salty - almost to the point of being overpowering and inedible. I indicated that combined we didn't finish my Ribeye due to the saltiness - and that was sharing a plate. He acknowledged that they started using a new seasoning just that day and many of the other patrons (remember, only four tables were seated when we sat down at 7:30) had complained about it and that he was going to talk to corporate about it. He graciously took the filet of the check, however I do sincerely believe not enough was done, as combined, we could not finish the Ribeye due to the saltiness. The Palm is a firmly established steakhouse in the downtown area across from The Majestic. It's the perfect place to go before a show or for an elegant special occasion. This was our first time at The Palm, and we have been meaning to dine in for quite some time. We went with another couple and were able to be seated before they arrived. Our waitstaff was personable and pleasant and accommodated our every need. My husband and I ordered the 8 oz. filet with a peppercorn brandy sauce and a loaded baked potato. The filet was cooked to perfection. Have absolutely no complaints. And that sauce was delectable. Our friends had the steak as well and were happy with their selection. Drinks all around. I had a sangria which was sweet and refreshing. We had planned to have their zeppoles for dessert, but sadly, they were out, so they brought us a brownie a la mode. I still want to go back and try the zeppoles, but that brownie was all that and a bag of chips! Absolutely sinful. Overall, it was a great experience, and I'm sure we'll be back. The Palm is the equivalent of getting a free vacation to be sold a time share. Chili's try's to up sell you less. I think I heard about bone in steaks being the recommendation after every single person asked for a regular steak, we get it, obviously we weren't choosing the bone after the sixth mention. Drinks are slow, food is too fast. It was more of a dinner than an experience. Lastly, they hand around pamphlets to get you to join the "cult" then make you feel bad when you don't pay for the $25 "special" membership.
