From our home in Genoa Nevada, the nearest bagel shop is up at Lake Tahoe. So when Gayle and I return to the Bay Area, we're often on the lookout for bagels and a good corn cherry scone from the Cheeseboard in Berkeley. I had a little time on my hands last Saturday and after dropping Gayle off in Walnut Creek, I decided to skip House of Bagels and check out Boichik Bagels. It wasn't much of a drive, the place was easy to find, and the place was uncrowded and well stocked. I ordered half a dozen (plus a complimentary freezer bag) and took them home. My first one was a sandwich that night back in Nevada and the 2nd one was toasted with cheese the next morning. Both choices were very good. Boichik Bagels on Treat Blvd is the real deal -- finally, a proper NY-style bagel in the East Bay! Hit them up for the pumpernickel, everything, and plain bagels and all three were fantastic. The pumpernickel had that deep, malty flavor with a perfect dense-but-not-gummy chew. The everything bagel was loaded with seasoning on every inch (no skimping here), and the plain proved that simple done right is its own kind of magic -- crispy exterior, pillowy soft inside, just the right amount of chew. You can tell these are boiled and baked the traditional way. Staff was friendly and the line moves fast even when it's busy. Pricing is fair for the quality you're getting. It was okay, I wasn't a fan of the Mensch, but the Lox/Cream cheese was decent. Staff was friendly and courteous but it can get crowded in here fast. Restrooms are gender neutral. We wanted a bagel for breakfast yesterday, so we decided to try this bagel place that seemed to have opened about nine months ago. When I walked into the store, I was surprised by the amazing and huge display of bagels at the front, where we could clearly see all the different types they offered. We ended up getting half a dozen bagels. We tried the egg bagel, which had a really beautiful yellow hue, but taste-wise it was similar to a regular bagel, though perhaps a bit softer. We also tried the salt and pepper bagel, which was probably my favorite out of all the ones we tried. When the salt grains hit your taste buds, you could really taste a burst of saltiness that paired super well with cream cheese. We also got a bialy, which is a thin, chewy, bagel-like roll with a depression in the center filled with savory sautéed or caramelized onions. It was interesting. We also tried their whipped cream cheese, which was pretty good. I liked that the store offered samples, especially of their seasonal cream cheese flavors. I was able to try their Alfredo cream cheese, which definitely tasted like Alfredo (very garlicky) as well as their creamsicle cream cheese, which I thought was really good and had hints of vanilla, orange, and honey. At $3.25 per bagel, the price was a bit high for just bagels, but at least we got to try different kinds. Overall, my experience here was pretty amazing, and I would probably want to go back to try more of their offerings next time. read more

My friend's dad recommended this place so we went to try it. the coffee was bland, almost flavorless, but I've definitely had worse. Stopped in here to order a bagel to go, on my way to a doctor's appointment. They had a great variety of bagels, along with their spreads. I got an everything bagel with their rotating spread: Calabrian chili caramelized onion & sweet garlic. It was absolutely delicious! From the time I ordered to when I left with my bagel, was maybe 10 minutes max. There are a handful of tables if you'd like to eat your breakfast there. I've been wanting to try Boichik Bagels after hearing a few people recommend it, and reading reviews that claimed these bagels were on par with east coast bagels. As a NY native, I grew up with amazing bagels. I'm happy to discover that while the bagels at this Boichik location aren't exactly the same as a great east coast bagel, they are the closest to it in quality that I've tried in the bay. I brought home a few bagels to try: plain (4/5), egg (4.5/5), and eggything (4/5, just slightly too salty when paired with lox). I also bought 8oz of Nova Lox (4/5, pretty good, but pricey!). Service was fine and fast, but I wouldn't call it friendly. There was no wait on a Wednesday around 11:45am. This is a convenient location steps away from Trader Joe's, usually with available parking. I'll be back and look forward to trying more bagels! read more

Decided to try this new bagel place here in Concord CA off of Treat blvd and Oakgrove. Staff are very friendly and helpful. We ordered the Garlic and Everything bagels with cream cheese. They were so fresh and warm. I love how they stack many garlic on their bagels. This is the only place I know who boil cook their bagels. There are seats on the outside. Parking is plenty and free. Also, nice short walk to Trader Joe's. The staff included a sample bagel that we ended up liking it. Because of that kindness, we returned and order that bagel along with our normal garlic and everything bagels. On our third visit to this place, I like a shout out to the owner that "Karla or Carla" was so kind to help us even after the stores closed with some bagels. We drove only to this place and were sad it just closed! However she noticed it and helped us out. *please thank her for such kindness and blessings as my wife and I were happy. I've always enjoyed Boichik Bagels, but this visit was disappointing. Service was slow, and the bagels didn't seem as fresh as I remember--they lacked the chewy interior and crisp exterior that made me a fan in the first place. My bagel had a lot of cream cheese, which made it messy to eat, and it was only spread on one side. I also ordered it toasted, but it barely seemed toasted. The new pesto tomato cream cheese was a bit too salty for my taste, and with all the cream cheese, it would have been nice to have napkins included automatically. I don't remember the bagels tasting this way before. My fiancé has mentioned for a while that they don't taste the same anymore, especially at the Concord location, and this was the first time I really noticed it too. I've also noticed the menu has grown quite a bit with things like matcha and other additions. Personally, I always liked the simplicity of the original menu and the focus on making great bagels. We've stopped in a few times since it opened. It's located off Treat and Oak Grove, around the corner from Trader Joe's. A cute store with some indoor and outdoor seating. As you pass by, you can see the staff prepping orders through the big window in front. I get the Classic (lox, capers, tomato, red onion, chive cream cheese) on an everything bagel. It all tastes good but on the pricier side. Size of the bagel seems on the smaller side- or possibly it's just the ones we've gotten- for $16 a sandwich. The amount of filling is good, but when you bite into it, everything kind of spills out. The staff is friendly and they seem to have a good system for fulfilling orders. Having waited in a line out the door at Boichik's Rockridge location multiple times, I was stoked when I found out they opened a location in Concord. The Concord location was still bustling on a Sunday morning, but the wait was manageable. The bagels were just as tasty as I remember them to be - especially when they're fresh from the oven. I ordered the classics - sesame and plain - which I enjoyed in the comfort of my home since the shop is more of a grab-and-go situation (there are are few tables outside with a view of the parking lot). The bagels were as dense and chewy as some of the best NY bagels I've eaten, and it was a special treat to enjoy them for a decadent Sunday breakfast. I'm honestly surprised by the current ranking of Boichik in Concord. These are hands down the best bagels in the area and service is always excellent! We typically just get a bunch of bagels with a tub of cream cheese and take everything to the house (love the everything bagel). We'll ultimately freeze at least half of the bagels and then defrost and toast up perfectly every time! Their hatch green chile cream cheese is a personal fave. I've been here a number of times due to the fact that I have a job that makes me roam around across a couple of towns. This has always been a solid spot for me with regard to a quick bagel sandwich. Bagels themselves are solid and the people who were there I find friendly. Clean spot with fresh bagels... and no, it's not quite NY or NJ but I'll tell ya it's better than most other bagel spots around here so it's the closest thing to a Davidivich bagel you're gonna get out here. I am a big fan of Boichik Bagels. I've been to two Berkeley locations prior to this visit to this location in Concord I was already a fan of their yummy, yeasty, and chewy bagels. My visit to the Concord location was for lunch and I had the classic bagel with lox combo (untoasted). It was great. It's a generous portion, allowing me to bring half home for a later meal. There were a few customers ahead of me in the line but their process at Boichik is efficient and the wait wasn't long at all. The best bagels in the Bay are now available to pick up in person in CoCo County!! I've been a big Boichik fan since they started and now that I've moved from Oakland to Concord I've been hoping they'd open a shop out this way! I went on opening day and while there was a pretty big line and crowd ordering and waiting, the line went quick and the food was prepared fairly quickly. They had a pretty big staff working and the space itself is super cute (with a few chairs and tables inside and out and lots of parking right in front of the shop). They have the full menu of Boichick stuff (bagels, schmear, salads, drinks, merch, and more). All the bagel flavors are great and the Pink cream cheese is hands down the best schmear. We got the lox sandwich and the whitefish sandwich and both were so tasty and fresh. It's almost dangerous having such good food and drinks so nearby now! read more

Came here after hearing rave reviews of this location. It's in the same shopping center as Trader Joe's ( which was a perk). Parking was plentiful and I got a spot right outside the shop. The place had a long line and some people eating in. The folks working here were not too thrilled to take orders and seem a bit bothered to take my order. Anywho, I got one of each type of bagel available. My favorite was the pumpernickel cinnamon raisin one. My least favorite was the salt bagel ( I had never even heard of this before). I've been waiting to try this place! I first saw this bagel shop while in Palo Alto. But have never gotten the chance to try it until they opened one up near where I live. I'm glad I did! Definitely not your average bay area bagel shop. They serve high quality bagels perfectly toasted with a variety of spreads and fillings. I got the classic bagel because I wanted lox and cream cheese. I was surprised to find that they added tomatoes in the bagel as well, which went well but I preferred it not to be added as it made it a bit more difficult to eat since the bagel is a tad smaller than your average. However, the bagel itself (I got the garlic) was pretty delicious. Perfectly toasty and crunchy on the outside and warm, chewy, and fluffy on the inside. They also serve coffee and tea if you would like one with your bagel. I got the English Breakfast tea. It is conveniently located near Trader Joe's with plenty of parking available. I'd say for the price you pay, you'd be pretty impressed with the quality. I was satisfied with my bagel as it came with a good amount of cream cheese and lox. Unfortunately I will only be returning if I am getting some individual items. Boichik did not offer a dozen box (only a 2 dozen) so I just ordered a bakers dozen individually and 2 smears..... for $48! That's WILD! Was excited to finally try this place since I heard they had a good gluten free bagel. Ordered "The Mensch" on gluten free everything bagel. Whitefish, cucumber, tomato... it was quite delicious! Only thing I'd do differently next time is get it with tuna instead, as I didn't know what whitefish is and I don't like salty/smoked fish (not their fault.) But it was still yummy. The lady who took my order was so kind and did not rush me to make my order, even explained the menu a bit since it was my first time. The person making the sandwich called me over to clarify if the gluten free was an allergy or preference, then explained the precautions they use, which I really appreciated.
