This was one of the best bagels places I've ever gone to in OC, and doubles up as a nice breakfast spot! I went during opening so there wasn't much of a line, but there was one that formed a bit after for people looking to get a quick breakfast in. I got a New Yorker and it was genuinely so good. I'm not much of an egg person myself, but the way they made them was so good on my bagel. The side of aioli was great too, it was a really nice addition for each bite. My girlfriend got an OG, and from the bite I took, that was also just as good in its own way. Plus the side of cilantro aji cream was amazing, I preferred that over my aioli, but both were great! Thursday 11 AM the wait was 10 minutes, still bustling with bar stools seating available, but it beat dealing with the weekend rush (45+ minute wait) I had their Bob & Larry, a veggie based bagel, with scallion chive cream cheese spread. The combination of creamy cheese, juicy tomato, and crunchyyy thin cucumbers and radish were the best combos of textures I have had in awhile. Their hot sauce was great too, loved the sweetness and heat combo, appreciated that it wasn't just tabasco or Tapatio. A squeeze of lemon at the end took the flavors to another level! My only complaint (which seems to be a common one) was the bagel's toughness. It was a bit hard to bite into especially with a sandwich-style order tackling two layers. Came sunday morning and stood in line to order. As we stood in line, I was watching them place dough on a pan to make their bagels in house. My friend and I split 2 bagels. 1 of the bagels was the works. This bagel was unexpectantly on the hard side. The salmon and other ingredients that we got with this bagel were good. The cheese and jalapeno bagel was nice and soft and seemed fresher. However the sausage in this sandwich seemed undercooked and red inside. The waiter replaced the bagel but the sausage still seemed pinkish. He explained that this sausage may still have some pink even though it is cooked. Because it does have pork, my friend and I were not conlmfortable with eating the reddish pink parts so we picked it away. This was my first time at Boil & Bake and I was not impressed, mainly with the texture of the works bagel. But I am glad I got to try the food here. read more

Finally gave this place a try after seeing it all over social media and I'm so glad to say that this place definitely lives up to the hype! Came here on a Saturday morning at 10:30 and there was a line out the door but it moves very quickly and the food comes out fast too. I waited about 25 minutes which honestly wasn't bad at all. The menus consisted of various open face and sandwiches with your choice of bagel. The bagel is so fluffy and soft but still has that slight crust you want on the outside; it's perfect as is or as a base for a sandwich. I got the Fully Loaded Lox on a sesame bagel and it may seem crazy to pay $20 for a bagel BUT it is loaded with so much salmon and veggies it's 100% worth it. The ingredients are so fresh and delicious you can tell the care and quality that went into it. I also got the Ole Smokey which came loaded with a lot of smoked turkey; it was rich, creamy and satisfying. And don't sleep on the chocolate chip cookie! It was the perfect cookie; crispy on the outside with a soft chew inside. And the cookie was sea salt sprinkled on top and all throughout the dough for that perfect t sweet salty balance. The presentation is beautiful and service is good but personally I like a thinner and crispier bagel so off the bat I wasn't a huge fan. That being said if you like a thicker and doughier style then this place is for you. I had extremely high hopes for this bagel shop because I saw it pop up all over my for you page on TikTok. And I don't think it was a complete letdown, but I also don't think it was the best bagel sandwich I've ever had in my life. When my friend and I got there on Saturday at 11 AM, there was a long line out the door. it moved pretty quickly and wasn't too bad so I didn't mind. When you enter the door, there is a little pocket where the menus sit and you can look at it as you wait in line. It's a little bit small inside the shop. We ordered and sat down to wait at the counter but we don't have to wait long because our bagels came out in less than 10 minutes. There is an outside patio seating area that looked pretty full and we probably would've sat there if we weren't getting takeout. Santa Monica bagel sandwich 3/5: I'm not sure if we were supposed to ask for it to get toasted but my bagel was cold and a little sad. I am a bagel snob and have been to bagel places all over the country. My house locations in Tennessee and Illinois were based on the availability of top notch bagels. I have one every morning when I read the paper on my iPad. I stumbled upon Boil and Bake when I was looking up the closest location of Shirley's Bagels to John Wayne when I arrived there this morning. It was actually mentioned in one of the Shirley's reviews. Naturally, I had to look up Boil and Bake.... And the rest is history...... I arrived at 10 AM on Tuesday and there was no line. I just walked up and ordered. My go to is an everything. I also wanted to try the Parmesan and pepper. I got them both with just butter and extra toasted. The gentleman running the register was happy I asked about that because I wanted them slightly brown, not just warmed up. The extra toasting was needed. I also ordered an unsweetened iced tea. They came out super buttery, so I had to flip them to let them drain a little. They also had some large flaked salt on top of the butter. I'm not sure if the butter was unsalted or they were just putting extra salt on top of the salted butter. Visually they were gorgeous, packed with toppings: top, bottom, sides, everywhere! The boiling produces a thick chewy skin while the inside was dense yet soft. The first bite was shockingly good! I mean like really incredible! The toppings, the chewy skin, the butter with the salt, the extra toasting which caramelized the edge were all working in harmony to produce the best bagel experience I have ever had in my entire life, and I am old! Everything bagel toasted with butter was $6.00. It's worth double that. After I ate the whole everything I went to town on the Parmesan and pepper. It was another almost religious experience! Super friendly and professional service! The only bummer was that the iced tea was small and there were no refills. I refilled my tea with the water that was provided free outside. If you're not going to offer refills, it would be very helpful to offer a large size tea. The overall experience? Incredible. read more

We stopped for breakfast at Boil and Bake because it was near where we were staying near SNA. They had a large parking lot and a very long line. It ended up being around 11am when we went, which I guess isn't really breakfast anymore. It seems like most customers are young adults. I think a lot of them were college students. The inside is cutesy. I like the ambiance and decor and there are tables to eat at outside. Even though there are a lot of tables, they were all full because this place is so popular. We waited about 30-45 minutes in line on a Sunday and right as we made it to the counter, they had run out of Lox. They still had smoked salmon, though, which I know is different, but I couldn't explain to you the difference. We got two sandwiches to share,the one with smoked salmon and the OG (egg, cheese and house made longanisa). We had wanted the open faced bagels, but because the lox was out of stock we had to go with our second choices. I thought the OG was king of bland without the yummy green sauce that it came with. I think I'm used to the Filipino version of longanisa, because I thought for a second that I had ordered the wrong thing and I was eating regular sausage. Anyway, it was good, but you have to eat it with the sauce. The smoked salmon sandwich was really good. I loved the tomato and dill and capers. You can order your open faced bagels or sandwiches on any of their bagels, but they had already run out of all the cheese bagels for the day I guess because that wasn't an option anymore. Although the bagel sandwiches we got were good, single ("loosie") bagels will cost you $4-$5 a pop. I don't think I'm that much of a bagel connoisseur to know the difference between a good and a great bagel. For 3 people (2 breakfast sandwiches, a cinnamon roll and an orange juice), we spent $50+, so this is kind of an expensive place. Like another reviewer said, I don't think it's worth the price and it's definitely not worth the wait. :/ The orange juice was super fresh and delicious. They also offer coffee drinks and matcha, as well as quite a few unique canned beverages.
