Okay Vibes! Boil Bay I see you. That Boil Bay Special sauce gave exactly what it needed to give, think buttery, lil garlic, Old Bay and I'm sure a few secret ingredients that set it off. I was pleasantly surprised by how flavorful everything was without being overwhelmingly so. My experience was around 5p on Wednesday, definitely looking to dodge a crowd. The host sat us at a booth immediately. We were a party of two so a booth is always appreciated. Jonikka and Bobby approached us soon after, explaining that Bobby was training and Jonnika would be there with the assist. The menu is fairly easy to read so after our water was delivered we went with Combo A. Black and Green Mussels, with Clams, boil bay special sauce and mildly spicy. Chef's Kiss. We started with Wings. Ordered a crawdad po'boy with Cajun Fries too. Everything was yummy. Bobby and Jonnika did a great Job making sure we had all the necessities (gloves, napkins, wet naps, gloves, utensils..) including condiments, its so nice when you don't have to remind your server you need utensils and/or condiments. Love how on top of things Bobby already was during his training. Upon entering the restaurant, there was an A-frame sign highlighting local DJ's on Friday and Saturday evenings. Poppin'. We were also greeted by a full bar, vibes! Inside there is a massive dining room, lots of mood lighting, nautical decor, and a stage. From the speakers, r&b and a lil Hip Hop, nice touch. So I'd recommend Boil Bay for a laid back date night, or night out with friends. My only gripe this visit was the lack of beer choices. Jonikka explained they were having so difficulties with their beer situation. Bummer I love a Craft IPA and they had two on their menu I wanted to try. All in all. Boil Bay is a solid spot. 3.5 Stars Places like Boil Bay is a good place to eat but I'm left with more questions than answers. How do I know if these crab legs actually weigh up to 1/2 lb or a full pound? Is that just the legs or with potatos and corn? Wheres my weight scale! People don't eat the shells, can we get 5 dollars off? The food and vibe/music was cool. We came here because my sister and I just wanted to hang out before she went back out to sea and going out to sea can be hard work at times. We started the event with an order of calamari and coconut shrimp. The sauce on the coconut tasted good, I wasn't sure what it was but the sauce was sweet and went well with the coconut shreds I ordered the Hot Lobster sandwich which was dipped in a mixture of butter and seasonings. There was definitely more bread than meat and Lettuce though. I ordered the full pound of king crab and mussels with mild spice. This tasted a little more saltier than normal but this is Cajun seasoning. For the drink, Arnold Palmer. I guess it's a hit or miss sometimes because normally they'd have everything set up but we waited a little longer than usual, Utensils weren't ready, scissors were missing, broken straws, when we asked for the check, we waited for 15 minutes until our waiter came back. So here in VA Beach for a girls trip and the birthday girls wanted seafood. So we end up at Boil Bay. Heard a lot about it from Tik Tok. So we gave it a try. The ambiance is cute. They had music playing but you could barely hear it. The menu had everything so we could not decide what we wanted. Our waitress came and introduced herself Brandy. She was lovely. But she went missing a lot. We started with hush puppies which were good. My friend ordered charbroiled oysters with boil bay sauce. You could barely see the sauce on them. It was berry light. So I don't think they were really char broiled. More Ike just broiled. We ordered seafood broils. Again the sauce content was not giving what it was suppose to give. The blue crabs were okay. The potatoes were bland. Even with the sauce being on them. I barely had any sauce in the bag. My friend had the crab cakes and she said it was good. All Meat no filing. Which is good. Then I had the fried rice. When I say amazing. Amazing. That was the only thing that saved this review. And the bathroom. Another story for another post. Normally I really enjoy this place. While typically I would get a combo meal and it be plenty of food, this round I decided to do the "a la carte" option that comes with a corn and potato for each option. I ordered a half pound of crab legs and half a pound of shrimp. While I don't doubt the crab legs were a half a pound (standard looking order), I did only receive (yes I counted) 9 shrimp. Half a pound of head off shrimp that are that little should be anywhere from 15-30 of them. Another fun thing that happened is I was seated at a booth that both blinded me through the mirror across the room and was freezing since it was under a vent. My food was cold pretty quickly sitting there. The service wasn't bad. There was a larger party in there so while it took a little bit to see my server, it was expected. He did forget my drink, after eating half my meal I was able to order it again from him. The taste of the food was good. I enjoyed what little I did receive lol. Overall I am disappointed by my last visit. Up until now it was my preference over competitors. Hoping if I go back they will do a bit better. read more

Still our fave!!!! This was actually our first time not ordering to go. We made reservations and was seated once we arrived. The inside decor had a nice vibe to it. The lights were dimly lit and there was lots of string lights. Our server was friendly, fast and attentive. She always came to see if we needed anything and refilled our drinks when she noticed they were getting low. The night we went there was love music as well which was a nice touch. Went here for dinner with friends and co workers around 5 pm. The inside of the restaurant was actually pretty cute and a nice vibe. It wasn't crowded at all during this time which was nice. My friend and I order the fried calamari as an appetizer to share which were yummy and the sauce it came with was delicious. I ordered the crab cake basket that came with two pretty decent sized crab cakes and Cajun fries. My only complaint about the crab cakes was how mushy they were, it would've been nice had they been a little crispy. My friend order the crawfish po boy, Cajun fries, and 1/2 pound sausage in Cajun sauce (that we shared). The po boy was yummy, but the sausage sadly weren't very good, the flavor was a little off and tasted really salty. The rest of the table had ordered boils and all had completely finished their boils entirely, so safe to say they thought the boils were good. Our waitress was very very friendly, wish I would've gotten her name but she gave really good service during our time there. I personally am not sure if I'll be going back to be honest, but if I do I might give their boil a try though other reviews I've seen for this place have mentioned the saltiness in their boils and our 1/2 pound sausage definitely was salty so I'm a little timid in trying a whole entire boil. The portions are healthy, if you leave here and you're still hungry, then you've got a bottomless pit, get some help!!!!! This restaurant is in a small shopping center next to a Princess Tea location. There was plenty of parking, and the inside was roomy. It is a great place to take the family, though it can be expensive. The service was quick, and the staff was amiable; I think we waited 15-20 minutes for food after we ordered. We were headed to another restaurant when I saw this place, and decided to adjust our plans a bit. Inside the restaurant is really nice and it gave me that 'chill and relax' kind of vibe. We started off with the Calamari and I had the Passion Fruit Margarita. The Calamari was a little thicker than what I'm use to, but seasoned well and tasty. The drink was good as well, but I think I probably should've gotten the strawberry flavor. I'll try it the next time. My husband ordered the Catfish basket with Cajun Fries (yummy!) and I ordered the Shrimp basket with Cajun Fries (also yummy!) They give you alot of fries! The service was great! My food was delicious. I had the scallop boil bag, spicy, and the spicy flavor was just right, flavorful with spice. The potatoes and corn tasted yummy in the sauce, as well. I know this is a seafood boil restaurant but let me tell you, they have the BEST lobster rolls in the seven cities. I drive from Suffolk just to get one. We ordered a combo, crawfish and scallops all with the boil bay special sauce. We do a lot of these types of seafood places but my hubs and I agreed with love this sauce the best. So flavorful and the one thing I would ask for is pasta to soak up the sauce. That would be so delicious. But they have a $5 tequila special and add two dollars for a margarita. That was good. I've been a fan of seafood boil and I've been to a lot of seafood boil restaurants in California and Virginia. I was told that Boil Bay is one of the best seafood boil restaurant in the area so we decided to give it a try. In every seafood boil restaurant that I always get the combination of all the sauces with head on shrimp, while my SO always order the lemon pepper sauce with head off shrimp. I like ordering the head on shrimp because it's a few dollars cheaper and the shrimp's head has an additional flavor. Boil Bay's sauce is very delicious and tasty. The shimps were not overcooked or undercooked. Their cajun fried rice is our favorite too. The servings are huge and we always end up bringing hime some of our leftovers. As a far as the service, the staff were friendly and accommodating. They are very helpful and will try to make sure that our meal will be an enjoyable one. When we went there for the first time last year on a Friday night, they have some live music. It was very entertaining and we enjoyed it a lot. There wasn't a live music on a Sunday lunch when we went recently though. The restaurant was also clean. Tables were arranged do that their customers will be socially distanced from each other. It is quite a drive for us coming from Portsmouth. Although there's a seafood boil restaurant near our house, we would rather drive to Boil Bay fro their delicious seafood. When staying on the coast, one needs to get seafood. NEEDS, I say! A great recommendation and five-star reviews led us to Boil Bay, and this need was more than fulfilled. It was easy to order takeout via Boil Bay's website, and our mound of crabs and lobster was ready within 20 minutes. The next challenge was making it home with all the food still in the bags. Even through my mask, I could smell how delicious the food was while picking it up in the restaurant. Good thing you can't really crack open crab legs while driving. Once back at our vacation home, we spread out our bounty. We got 12 blue crab, in a mix of garlic/butter and Cajun spice. We also got two pounds of snow crab legs, two lobster tails, hushpuppies, Cajun fries, corn, sausage and beignets. While blue crab are more local to this stretch of the East Coast, I gotta say the snow crab were my favorite. You definitely get more meat for less work. But the blue crab were delicious as well. And Cajun spice is the way to go. Love garlic/butter, but this kicked this up a notch. It was also great on the fries. I was searching around for a place that had coconut shrimp to dine at with my sister. Boil Bay delivers on not just coconut shrimp, but pretty much everything they have to offer!! The service at Boil Bay was prompt and friendly. Our server Angel was attentive and sweet. The interior of the restaurant was cute and sea themed, like you're on board a ship. Lol. So, for appetizers we of course went for the coconut shrimp. In addition, we got mozzarella sticks. Both dishes came out quickly. We really loved the crispy coconut shrimp and the sauce it was drizzled with. They were a little different than other coconut shrimp I have had, as the coconut was not inside the breading, but the flavor was definitely there!! They were scrumptious. The mozzarella sticks were bomb as well! The breading was seasoned well and the cheese was gooey and stretchy like it should be. For entrées, my sister did a chicken strip basket with regular fries, ranch, honey mustard, and ketchup. The chicken tenders were crispy fried and seasoned to perfection. The chicken was juicy and flavorful. My sister loved the ranch with it, but wasn't a fan of the honey mustard. The fries were also crispy and delicious. My shrimp po boy was sooo good!! Piled high with fried shrimp and drizzled with remoulade, all on a buttery toasted roll with lettuce and tomato. I ate the whole thing right up. I also got coleslaw and corn on the side. These were just okay. The corn smelled weird to me. The coleslaw was a huge portion and tasted alright. The sides were cheap so it wasn't a big deal. My sister couldn't finish her food as she gets full quickly sometimes. But we were offered cute to-go boxes for that. Another cool thing, with my Yelp check-in, I got 15% off my order. Yay! When it comes to a seafood boil, my husband and I are going to try it! We stopped by Boil Bay while on vacation in Virginia Beach. If you love seafood, this is a must visit while you are in the area! The staff were friendly and attentive, the food came out super quickly, and the drinks were delicious! I had the snow crab and black muscles in garlic butter seasoning. The sauce was one of the best I've had (shoutout to our waitress for recommending the garlic butter seasoning over the regular garlic butter) and the portions were plentiful! Each boil order also comes with potatoes and corn. The corn was some of the best I've had at a seafood boil spot! I also tried the strawberry margarita. It came is a large glass which I was not expecting and had a sugar rim. Chefs kiss! My husband had the king crab legs and said he got more than he was expecting. He also commented that the tools they give you to eat the crab legs were top notch and that every seafood place should offer them. All in all we had a great experience. We have been here a couple of times and I am happy to write a review that is positive! If you don't read any further reviews and are questioning whether to go, dont hesitate but just do it! The boils here are great. The portions are large, the sausage is salty and great and the food is not over cooked. What is also great here, is the fried foods. They have fried oysters, fish and chips, and even their fries are good. I really enjoyed the fish and chips. The batter is very light with more meat and crunchy and the fish is recognizable as a filet. This last trip was really pleasant for us. We had the pleasure of being taken care of by Angel and I have to say, he was an awesome server. I would highly recommend asking for his section if he is working. I came here with my linesister for lunch around 1:30pm. There was no outdoor seating but there was plentiful space in the dining room so we were " socially distanced" from other parties. The host was great and gave us a great recommendation for our boil bag seasoning. He also showed us how to view the menu. Due to COVID the menu is available online via QR code which I loved! Our server AJ was sweet. He let us know he recently started working at this establishment. Thus there were a couple of questions we had about the menu that he had to get the answers to but he did so pleasantly and was very patient with us. He was very attentive and checked on us frequently. Although we've been to other boil establishments this was our first time at Boil Bay so AJ told us about ladies night, karaoke night, and the live band nights. Most importantly the food! The main thing that I feel separating Boil Bay from like establishments is the boil bags on happy hour. I got the shrimp head off bag and added sausage and it was a good amount for me because I wanted to try multiple items. I got the Boil Bay Special sauce (recommended by the host) mild and it was a perfect blend of seasonings. I enjoyed the sausage being sliced because I felt it was easier to get bites of everything at once. The portion sizes of everything were great....definitely a great value. The calamari was cooked perfectly and that Po boy whew. So I thought I was over Cajun Seaford Boil food but apparently not. I flew to Virginia Beach for the day for a couple of projects. Got in early and planned to fly home in the evening. Well work went very smoothly so I figure I'll have an early dinner. Yelp tempts me with this restaurant, and my will was broken. I've been seduced. Ok it's in a small retail strip center, and the outside is pretty attractive. One review said not to be fooled by the outside so not sure what that meant. As I said it's an early dinner so plenty of seating. A very sweet waitress come and explains the menu, or system for ordering. I order an unsweetened ice tea, but they don't have sweeteners, only auger. That was a little odd but ok. There are several combos in the menu but my waitress points out that it's "Happy Hour", so several a la cart items discounted so you can make a combo for far less than the regular menu. You've got me, so I'll go with king crab, hall pound, and you guessed it Shrimp. No heads. About a dozen good sized shrimp. Out come my dinner, pretty quickly and it was just right. Initially I thought, this is not going to be enough, but I was wrong. Also came with two ears of corn, or half ears and two potatoes. My waitress was very pleasant and checked with me occasionally as did some of the other staff. All made me feel very comfortable. With what's going on in the world with the Coronavirus I decided, I'm going to limit travel to driving distance for now so not sure I'll be in Virginia Beach for awhile, but for all of you in the area, I recommend Boil Bay. If and when things get back to normal, I would definitely return here. Just hope they have Splenda sweetener by then. read more

First and foremost...do yourself a favor and just get the "all of the above" sauce because my GOODNESS. Could bathe in that stuff. Large parking lot and it's a lot bigger than expected inside. We had a party of about 30 or bigger and they were able to accommodate us. Could've went a little more smoothly (cause that's the whole point of making reservations) but they were great with fixing things and communicating with his about their next steps. 4.5 rounded up only because there should have been more than 2 servers serving us. Food didn't take extremely long to get out to us, but the drinks definitely did. I ordered the hush puppies with honey butter; good but not outstanding and the bag of snow crab legs with the all of the above sauce. Sooooo amazingly good to include the corn and potato. Had ordered rice but it was forgotten. Also asked for a side of the boil bay sauce...and they literally brought out a soup sized container of it. Would suggest they fix that by just bringing out a small container (like what the butter comes in) rather than being wasteful. The wings were surprisingly super good as well. I love seafood. I love seafood boils. And I love this place! We came by late Sunday night and Casey the bartender was amazing. We got combo D - 1lb each of crab legs, clams, and mussels. We added on 1/2lb of head on shrimp and 2 boiled eggs. Got everything in Mild Boil Bay Special. I wish the raw oysters we ordered came out before the boil but that's not a big deal. Oysters were really fresh. The sauce was amazing!! I love the fact they use fresh garlic. Eggs were cooked perfectly. All the seafood was cooked right - nothing over cooked and the shrimp were a good size Complaints: wish they used fresh corn or at least didn't over cook the frozen corn they do use; there were only 5 pieces of sausage.
