Labor Day BBQ was complete with kalbi, boildaddy shrimp and clams and steak, noodles.
Esther P.

I am not a huge cajun food person but my good friend loves cajun food so I picked up some along with 6lbs of kalbi and the entire party loved it! This seafood boil was gone before the LA kalbi! They loved the Daddy Sauce and they are from OC where they have great crustacean food and boils. My takeout had plenty of sauce that we actually even smothered over our other raw shrimp we had on skewers to grill. I will definitely be back to bring more for my friends later.

The place is good but the portions are horrible. I ordered the shrimp bowl and it came with ONE piece of sausage. The daddy sauce is tasty just be careful of the spice level

Unseasoned. They don't season the shrimp or potatoes. They expect the sauce to be all the flavor I guess. But even that was lacking.

My brain quickly got nostalgic with fond images and feel-good vibes and I knew I had to stop by. My mom brought me to Pioneer Chicken when I was a child and I remember how crispy the chicken used to be. Sometimes, leftovers made it into my lunchbox. She knew how to win my heart through my belly even back then. I haven't had Pioneer Chicken since the early 90s, and I was pleasantly surprised when I dug my teeth into the drumstick. It was super crisp -- exactly how I remembered it. And the iconic orange batter was the same yummy recipe, possibly crispier than KFC's. The biscuit was my next favorite and I don't remember it being THIS good with its hint of honey flavor. The mashed potatoes and gravy have not changed, but the coleslaw was a tad different. It used to be chopped into mini squares. Now it's shredded cabbage, but it has the same light mayo flavor. Also, I love that they use less plastic Their side item containers are made of paper, both top and bottom, which also adds to the retro vibe. Loved looking at the old school photos on the wall that date back to the 1960s with Pioneer Pete, The Flintstones, and Muhammad Ali, aka the OG "G.O.A.T". It was cool to learn that Jessica, who took my order at the register, was part of a bigger franchise history. Her dad owned this location, and passed it on to his son. Family-owned for the last 38 years, this location is one of the originals. And one of the last two still standing. The nostalgia of this place will always have a special place in my heart. I'll have to come back for their fish & chips and maybe even try the gizzards on my next trip down here.

I finally got to visit this place after dropping friends off in Union Station. My original idea was…read moreto go to Amboy, but unfortunately for them they didn't open up in time. I decided Howlin Rays deserved my attention. There was already a line in place and they were playing some good music from the restaurant. When it came time for me to order, Ryan at the counter was very friendly to me. Everyone in the restaurant was. I really enjoyed that. I stuck with getting the mild sando, and didn't expect the chicken breast so gigantic! It was a delicious sandwich and the spice was pretty good. I'm glad I didn't go any spicier than that. I ordered the fries which were actually pretty good. They were definitely seasoned, but they weren't heavily in taste sense. They had something for me to drink and it went really well with a meal actually. I'm glad that I could say that I enjoyed this place from beginning to end. It is a little hidden, but luckily for me I found it. Definitely will come back to have my wife try it one day.

The pacific oysters are a good size and I really enjoyed the yuzu-kosho ponzu sauce on it. The spicy tuna crispy rice have a good amount of spicy tuna on top & I loved how crispy they made the rice underneath. The Kodo trio comes with uni, toro, & wagyu and the Toro sampler comes with o-toro, chu-toro, akami. All of these handrolls were phenomenal & just left you wanting more. The Wagyu katsu you cook on a hot stone at the table which I liked as an interactive dish. The Wagyu cheeseburger was dripping with juice but still had those crunchy edges. The Uni pasta was beautiful & delicious. The Chimichurri prawns I could eat multiple plates of- the shell comes sliced down the middle so you just have to peel it off. For dessert we ordered the Kodo basque cheesecake & Miso chocolate torte. I love a basque cheesecake & the sesame crumble added great texture. The miso chocolate torte made me wish I ordered my own. This is a chain place that sells wings near a freeway entrance, and Inext to a 711 and a laundromat. I give it 5 stars because of what this place is and the style of food and service that I expected to get :) There is inside seating but it seems like more of a place where people ordered and left. I was the same with a to go order of a 10 piece combo with garlic parm and lemon pepper bone in wings. The cleanliness was fine enough and the staff was fine and nice enough :) The person that took my order smiled as I gave my order and smiled as I picked up my order. The place had a constant flow of people coming in and the staff looked all pretty busy. I like the open windows to the kitchen area too verify the cleanliness and cooking of the food :) Wings were as expect, good :) Will I return... maybe... if I'm in the area again....
