Honestly, I'm pretty surprised this place has such great reviews. There's not a lot of seating, so although we'd BYOB'd, there was no where to sit, so we took it to go instead. Sadly, we only got our crawfish platter and not the boudin egg rolls that we ordered and paid for. That wasn't the only disappointment, though. The crawfish were just ok. Not bad, but nothing to write home about. Lots of smashed crawfish and the little ones were overcooked and totally mushy. I thought maybe I was crazy with all the great reviews, so I tried again. Same result. So I'm still a little perplexed by all the fuss. I'm not saying this is the worst crawfish ever, but there are just so many better options. Now that they have closed "for the season" i'm not sure how much my review matters. The food was perfectly fine. The people were super friendly. And for what it's worth, they had pretty awesome t-shirts. But they had a really, REALLY poorly thought out concept. With the 2-3 picnic tables (or "waiting tables" as they called them) out front, and another couple inside, they APPEARED to be a place you could sit and eat. They were however, primarily set up for take out. Which is a perfectly fine idea IF you indicate that in your name, your setup, your signage, SOMETHING! NO hand-wash sink. Not even any evident restrooms. When we were there, three more customers soon followed. All with the obvious intent of consuming their crawfish there at the establishment. If they really intended to be a primarily take-out establishment. One of the better places for crawfish in Houston especially if you were born and raised in Louisiana! Love that these guys are LSU and Saints fans! Geaux Tigers! My fiancé and I ordered 5lbs mild at 7.49 a lb. $35 for 5lbs, one corn, and 2 potatoes. I can usually eat 5-8 pounds on my own but I didn't want to be greedy... We got our crawfish to go and when we sat down at home to eat, it was still hot (We had an insulated bag with us)! The crawfish are really good size this season! Some were huge and others were medium sized to small. The mild is a bit on the spicy side, but I'm a baby when it comes to spicy food. Overall I really enjoyed Boil House's crawfish and it's something very close to home! My BIGGEST complaint was the wait. Orders were being taken faster than they can give the food out. We waited ALMOST an hour... I've never been to a crawfish house that had me waiting that long... And I also noticed other customers getting antsy since they were waiting for a long time too. Maybe a new system should be in place for pick up orders, since that seemed to cause a long wait for the customers who actually go to the restaurant to order. Another issue I overheard was with tickets being completed out of order... If the crawfish wasn't good I would never come back! But it's good so I'm gonna come Back. CRAWFISH SEASON! Cant get enough of it. We came here Friday night right when they opened at 5. Brought our coolers of beer and prepared to camp out, catch up with friends, and go to town on some mudbugs. I ordered the boudin eggrolls first and proceeded to eat them all by myself, despite the fact that there were 3 boys sitting at the table. Hey, I was hungry and they were that delicious. Then we ordered 3 lbs of crawfish. 2 lbs normal, 1 lbs medium spicy. We were all sweating by the end, but it was a good burn. Then we got pretty brave and ordered 1 lbs of the spiciest, despite being warned that they were HOT. They were hot but not unbearable. Then again we didn't suck the heads (haha), so theres still that if you want something extra. Overall, definitely worth trying out. So, me and some friends decided to get together with the theme of a crawfish boil in the mix. THIS was one of the few places I stumbled across that had great ratings aaand BYOB. But the great tips and reviews here on Yelp were very helpful. I was able to plan accordingly in regards to the street parking and made SURE I arrived early enough to get seating. Considering yesterday was an awesome spring day, you could imagine the outside seating was packed! Luckily, I arrived at a good time to get a table for me and my friends. However, there are a few things to be mindful of: people are pretty aggressive about the seating. Honestly, I have NEVER experienced people acting like what was exhibited yesterday! Since I was holding a table for my friends, I don't know how many people kept asking me if the seats were taken. But that's not as bad as those who just flat asked if they could join me like I looked like I needed the company. And the classic one was this one guy who literally asked me HOW many people I was waiting for! That- was just rude. I thought it was just me, but there was another guy who sat behind me who also had a table to himself. He let this one couple sit with him, but they went in line, and people kept asking him "Well who's the guy you're holding it for?" Riii-dic-u-lous! Even he said he never saw anything like that. Personally, if I see someone sitting at a table, by themselves or NOT- I'm just finding another spot or a different restaurant altogether. It took a lot not to go off and correct some of the rude behavior. I get that the place is small, and there's really not another place like that in the area, but there's definitely plenty of other Crawfish places. Honestly, I've had better crawfish at places like LA Crawfish and way less hassle. But like I said, I came here because of the BYOB, and also to try their boudain egg rolls. Now those were delish! My friends barely made it in time before they ran out of crawfish, and I didn't get a chance to try a slice of king cake because they ran out of that also. I LOVE this place. I've lived in Houston for a couple years, coming from Louisiana. I've been really disappointed in the crawfish in Houston, as most places put the seasoning on the outside and don't soak them. Boil House made me feel right at home. Immediately, the owners were kind and knowledgeable. Wayne talked with us for a good while about his concept and the crawfish. For all the people saying it's small, it is, BUT and this is a huge but, much like a true crawfish boil, you should just find a seat anywhere, you don't need a table to yourself. Being born and raised in southern Louisiana I wasn't expecting much in terms of crawfish while living in Houston but a couple of my friends insisted on this place and I was glad they did. The crawfish was perfectly seasoned and delicious, and even better than most of the traditional crawfish boils I would have at home. The service was great and the staff makes an effort to get your order out in a record time so that you can get to whats important. Good crawfish and beer with good company. The beer is BYOB, but there was a corner store down the street with a great selection. We went on a Friday night so make sure you get there early as seating is limited. Especially during lent season, where everyone eats crawfish. The staff are good people as well and the owner is a real good guy who came down and chatted with us a bit at our table before we headed out. We'll be back. read more

I'm a hard ass I know but the 4 is instead of a 5 for just a few things and things I hope they work out. The good: crawfish is DELICIOUS, if you like cajun style, full of flavor without all the seasoning on top, you'll love this crawfish. Wish I could make it spicier but it had flavor in the tails and in the heads. Not over cooked and the veggies were cooked perfect although lacked much flavor. So the bad: size was a bit small although I guess the season is ending. There was no restroom and it was all outdoors so no A/C. I guess this plays into their drive thru so probably you best pick it up and go. So currently $6.50/lb and being in the Heights will probably make me frequently be a customer but some things I'd like them to work on to make it on my elite list of 5's. read more

The Boil House is so delicious. I'll tell you what, I have never really liked Louisiana-style crawfish, but after trying them here, I'm such a fan! The flavor was extremely well balanced and packed a scrumptious yummy punch in every bite. They don't skimp on the spicy either, y'all! I also had the pleasure of trying their boudin empanadas. These are definitely the star. I mean, seriously, they are too good. Paired with the home made pepper jelly, they are even more addicting. Very good size, you can easily inhale 2 or 3 and be full. What a killer experience! In Houston for work and looking for an authentic place. Boil House was recommended by a neighborhood local and boy was it on point! I had a few lbs of crawfish with corn and potatoes. It's super casual, open picnic style tables. BYOB (score) but serve Topo Chicos, Mexican Cokes, water etc. The demographics were all across the board (which you know means it's good!) Groups of friends, couples, young families) all crowded around their cardboard plates breaking apart perfectly seasoned crawfish tossed with corn and potatoes. These boys are AUTHENTIC Louisiana. No powder seasoning you see by so many others. This flavor is sealed deep inside and comes out in the natural juices. The owner Wayne I got the pleasure to talk to for a bit. Super genuine guy who knows his stuff! I'm headed to New Orleans for the first time in a few months and he was so nice to give me recommendations. I could tell by his descriptions how knowledgeable and stoked on food he is. I can't wait to check them out. This place has it all. Awesome, authentic food at a great value. It's places like this that set the bar pretty high. The food and atmosphere are on point. I love places that only do one thing because they do it so well. The crawfish is absolutely delicious. The meat is so well-seasoned from the boil that no dips or additional flavoring are needed. Because there is no butter to weigh you down, you can eat more! The smoky sausage was enormous, but it wasn't anything special. The boudin egg rolls had great flavor and crunch. This little open-air shack is minimalist with "indoor" and outdoor seating. Quite a few mosquitoes nibbled on me after the sun went down, so mosquito magnets are advised to wear some insect repellent. Been eating crawfish at different places all over Houston for years, and I thought id had the best that Houston had to offer. From LA bar, ragin Cajun, blue water, etc..I know for a fact I've had the worst too. Well as of today I'm hooked it's a good drive from my house to the heights but wow completely worth it. These guys are open seasonally, and have a cute little shack type place set up with picnic tables , crawfish, shrimp and boudin egg rolls, OH the boudin egg rolls....soooooo good. They keep it simple with BYOB. Liquor store across the street and several corner stores with other choices on Studemont. Fresh Louisiana crawfish boiled in Cajun seasoning and served up hot with corn and potatoes. For those of you who like it very spicy like me, try the "lips swollen" spice level. Don't worry, you can also get them mild. The shrimp are delicious as well and some of the easiest peeling shrimp I've ever had. Also, boudin egg rolls. Links of boudin stuffed into an egg roll shell and deep fried. It's a nice twist on eating boudin. The seating is a little limited, but it works and also feels like a crawfish boil. Wow, Houston is really upping their crawfish game! I had bookmarked Boil House late last year and never got a chance to check it out before the season ended. I was able to try it this past weekend and am extremely excited that the Heights finally has a place that specializes in crawfish. There is limited seating inside, but on a nice day you can sit outside on several available picnic tables. You also have the option to carry out or drive thru (HOW COOL!) if it gets too crowded. It's BYOB, so if you manage to get seating, don't forget the beverages! The Louisiana Style crawfish were perfectly cooked, (soaked for the inner flavor, no sprinkles) which received my friend's Louisiana stamp of approval. :) They were very decently sized for it being early season. Cool place in the Heights Houston. I would say this place has potential. The restaurant currently does not have a washroom.....but I was cool with washing my hands and face with the ice from the community ice chest meant to store BYOB. The seating was outdoors on benches....cool....shared a common space with other strangers but made friends real quick! Now comes the food. My own preference is tail meat to come cleanly out of the exoskeleton. There's was somewhat close to my preferences. Most of the tail meat was still attached to the exoskeleton.....perhaps undercooked. The marinade was a little too spicy for my taste....to each their own. Our first visit to this place was very satisfactory. Being overwhelmed by a desire for crawfish, and having heard about declines in quality at some of our favorite locations, my wife and I decided to give this place a try. Boil House looks like a converted ice house (but wait - did the Heights ever have ice houses?), with only a few tables, along with two long picnic-style tables out front. Parking is along the mean Heights streets, if you can compete successfully with the obstacle course of garbage bins rolled out to the streets. The menu is very simple: 1, 5 or 8 lbs of crawfish, with an allotted number of corn cobs and boiled baby potatoes. They also have sausage (which they were out of the night we went) and a masterpiece of cajun/Chinese fusion, boudin eggrolls. One hardy man (I think the owner/manager) handled taking the orders, serving the drive-through, and calling out the orders when they were ready. Considering the labor-intensive nature of this operation, I can't complain about the wait for our food. The crawfish were excellent, and the boudin eggrolls not bad (Fun fact: The Heights, by the way, is the home of the "boudin kolache," served at a neighborhood Shipleys). The seasoning is just right, and the 5-lb serving was just right for the two of us.. We will definitely be returning. read more

The crawfish was cooked perfectly. Not over or under done. We ordered the "medium" and it was just as described with perfect mouth burn. The corn and potatoes were excellent as well. The best, though, was the shrimp. It was big, deveined, perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned. They have a drive-thru which I would love to use. Indoor/outdoor seating with no A/C. BYOB. You can grab beer @ the Metro Mart down the street. Community seating. The bathroom was unisex and clean. Finally, the paper towels for napkins were a good weight and didn't fall apart on you. Went to Boil House the first time today - it looked packed but turned out there was plenty of seating inside too. *its BYOB so order first, grab some beers a few doors down and walk back over. We ended up getting 5 lbs and the boudin egg rolls, both were great. The crawfish weren't over or under cooked which seems hard to come by. They had great flavor and good spice but not too spicy (we didn't get the hottest version the first time). The egg rolls were great with a sweet dipping sauce ended the meal perfectly. This is the best in Houston. I was born and raised in New Orleans but moved out here 3 1/2 years ago. Until now no other place has come close to capturing the true flavors New Orleans. The crawfish were very clean and the perfect size. I did not find any flat tails in my batch and the spice was perfect. The staff was very friendly and the atmosphere reminded me of local seafood markets from my hometown. I highly recommend this place to others and look forward to seeing future items as they expand.
