    State of Grace is an upscale restaurant in which the price and decor scream "let's get dressed up," but you are in Houston, so a lot of people were in jeans. There were also a lot of families, which was cute, although I personally am not buying my daughter $16 fries. Our waitress was personable and made great suggestions, especially regarding mocktails. This is important for non-drinkers because there are no mocktails on the drink menu, but the bartender will craft something you will like. Even my friend who normally avoids mocktails was very impressed. Apps: Crab Hushpuppies - 10/10: Crunchy, crabby, and came with a fantastic honey butter sauce. Caviar Tater Tots - 6/10: Well done -- they literally whipped the potato on the inside -- but at $37, you are paying more for the caviar, which was missing that fresh, creamy saltiness you normally seek. You also only get 4 tots. I would just get two orders of the crab hushpuppies. Mains: Chicken - 10/10: The truffle sauce was dreamy, and I think they could sell it on the streets. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and tender, and the dish also came with flaked truffles on top. I normally do not order chicken out, but this dish makes me wonder what I've been missing. Lobster fettuccini - 7/10: I don't think this is the dish to get here. The lobster didn't taste the freshest, and it also didn't have a lot of lobster to begin with. The sauce was well done and clearly made with lobster stock. I would come back, but there are dishes that shine much brighter than others.

    Wow! I'm not sure what I expected when booking a resy for brunch on a Sunday at State of Grace, but it completely exceeded my expectations. Extremely kind service from the hosts through the entire team. The best balance of conversational and storytelling without being overbearing. We never felt rushed and they made the experience feel personal, and felt we truly got to know the restaurant and reasoning behind a few of the dishes just through their excitement. We ordered coffees along with the crab hush puppies, gumbo, avocado toast, and ended with their massive cinnamon roll. It was the perfect spread and everything was so flavorful! (My only critique was I wish the cinnamon roll was warmed up and served with a bit more icing). The interior was fabulous with an amazing aroma. I would highly recommend for anywhere from an intimate date to a group brunch! Beautiful bar as well, I cannot wait to come again another night for dinner. Upon exit, we were also departed with a complimentary cookie - super cute touch!

    Hear me out- I would give the staff a 4-star for their attention and making us feel special. With that being said, the food is way overpriced for the taste. We had several dishes like the bread and caviar (no complaints on this), the deviled eggs, tuna tartare, crab fingers and the steak. The best part of my dining experience was the dessert they gave me for my birthday, that was absolutely delicious! The food was okay, nothing spectacular or worth me coming back for. The restaurant was nice and it was very busy for a Tuesday dinner night but enjoyed the service from the Assistant Manager and the wonderful servers! The decor is different, very intimate with low lighting and plenty of seating. It's best to valet park because parking is limited due to location.

    We decided to check out this place at the last min before leaving Houston. We walked in and waited for around 20 minutes to get seats at the bar, which was first-come, first-served. We started with some fresh oysters along with drink; half were from Alabama, and half were from Texas. I also ordered the crawfish benedict étouffée. It came with fried tomato, hollandaise sauce, and bacon. I really enjoyed it, especially the sauce! The ambiance was really nice, and the staff was very attentive. Both the host and our server checked on us frequently, which made the experience even better.

    My party had quite an interesting dining experience. We visited on a Sunday morning and were glad to have a reservation because it was extremely busy. Parking is very limited and valet only, which is something to keep in mind. Our server was kind, but it was a bit unusual that several items he recommended were unavailable, including certain drinks and the burger due to an issue with the meat tool. We also waited about 20 minutes for our food, and by then we were definitely ready to eat. As for the food, the buttermilk biscuit was excellent. The jam tasted very fresh and paired perfectly with the biscuit. The griddle cakes, which I had seen on social media, were the highlight. They were soft, fluffy, and the syrup was so unique. The Croque Madame and the Crawfish Benedict Étouffée, however, were less impressive. They lacked flavor and felt more focused on presentation than taste. Overall, I'm glad I gave this restaurant a try, but I don't think I would return.

    we came upon State of Grace when looking for a brunch spot on a Sunday morning. Unsurprisingly, it was booked full but after a 15-20 minute wait, 2 spots at the bar opened up. I started with the Zamora spritz. For $23, it better be a damn refreshing cocktail, and it surprisingly did not disappoint. Super well balanced. After, we had a dozen oysters, half from alabama and half from Texas. The oysters themselves were pretty fresh, and the thai chili sauce gave it a nice asian twist that has me salivating while I'm typing this The Croque Madame, two eggs on toast. It was so big I had a bit of a hard time figuring out how to eat it, but I cut it in half and figured it out. The toast was a little on the hard side but it probably needed to be in order to support all the weight

    I stopped in State of Grace after a long departure. Rude service took them off my list in 2022. All forgiven, I stopped for lunch today and took a comfortable seat at the bar. Avery attended to me, and I went for hushpuppies, fish and chips and really cold wine. Wow. Crab hushpuppies are delicious. Served w a maple butter of some sort, perfect w just a kick of spice from somewhere. 10. Fish and chips, a huge 2" thick slab of halibut, coated in beer batter and fried to perfection. It's fried but somehow still juicy and light served over a homemade tartar sauce. 10. Chips are 'thrice fried' frites. Flashed,frozen, fried and plated w garlic aioli. Never had a better french fry. Chenin blanc was cold and perfect for 90' day w humidity felling 107. If it's been a while, take a turn at State of Grace. There is so much disappointment in restaurants today, State of Grace cures that ill.

    I went there for Sunday brunch with a few people. The restaurant is very pretty and the service was outstanding. The food presentation was excellent, and the restaurant was almost filled - people were having a nice time. The dress is fancy casual. My only problem with the restaurant (which is on the high end pricewise) is that they do not provide enough food - I left there hungry - I had the Eggs en Cocotte "Shakshuka". It would have been nice if they provided a basket of rolls or bread for the table but that is not done. All the portions were small, which was fine for my wife but not for me. One person got a cinnimon roll which was beautiful and large - see photo. The restaurant blocks off the entire strip center parking area and valet parking is required.

    If you're going to spend some hard-earned money on a glorious dining experience, this is my first pick when passing through Houston. Winning every time - Blue Crab Beignets are crispy on the outside, light and fluffy textured with whole corn on the inside, topped worth a fairy dusting of powered sugar and cane sugar butter on the side. Sweet and savory, just like heaven! Ailliann was delightful, making thoughtful recommendations and helping the kitchen come through with my new favorite Caesar Salad - snappy Romaine in a perfectly salty, lightly briney (comforting, but fresh) dressing. Also exceptional: the Tuna Salad (a play on words?) with six generous slices of perfectly seared Ahi bedded next to a heap of garden greens dressed in an Asian citrus vinaigrette (Serrano cooled by dill & avocado) - every bite thrilling and filling unlike any other salad I've had before. Worth coming back for this one again and again! Details are important, as the spacious interior with multiple seating environments accommodates all types of occasions (bar, business, events, and elegance). Service is continuous from complementary valet to departure with a sweet little sandwich cookie from the hosts. This Grace goes far, time and again living up to the good name.

    State of Grace is a solid option for a nicer dinner. The filet mignon was decent; the sauce was good but a little boring. My husband said the fish was just fine as well. I think the basque cheesecake was pretty good with the brown sugar syrup. If you like dense, creamy cheesecakes, this one is for you!

    Celebrated a special occasion at State of Grace. Mainly valet parking. Jamilia was an AWESOME waitress. Appreciated her humor and talking to her! She provided excellent service along with her assistant, Jonathan. Enjoyed an espresso martini & tried some of the carajillo! Appetizers were the highlight of this meal (minus the hamachi crudo; sauce was super weird). Enjoyed the woodfried oysters (6pc) & gulf crab hushpuppies. Oysters from Texas & Alabama were delicious! Faves were Key Allegro, Mermaid Tears, & Matagorda Pearls. Capo Hugo was alright. Sides: pommes puree (whipped potato) & wood grilled asparagus - these were good Got a bite of the overpriced burger and that was the best entree out of the ones that were ordered. Fries were delicious and addicting too! Classic blackened redfish was ok; nothing special. Le Entrecôte (steak frites) was also ok; some steak pieces were hard to chew. Was NOT a fan of the lobster fettuccine. Surprisingly bland and barely any lobster meat for the cost of that dish. Ended the night with dessert. Basque cheesecake tasted great! Banana foster was pretty good. Grab a cookie on the way out of the restaurant! Don't see myself coming back here for dinner, but I'm open to trying their brunch menu.

    Went here during the lunch happy hour. They have valet parking. The parking lot is small so it would be hard to find parking especially on a busy night. The staff was exceptional here. I really liked the waitress we got. She was knowledgeable and actually enjoys eating the food here too. She was very attentive and noticed me wiping my hands on the napkin after eating some finger foods and offered wet cloths. She also made sure the table was clean from bread crumbs. The complimentary bread isn't the best here it's really hard and prefer more of the soft fresh bread. The inside is soft but the outside was very hard. I tried a bunch of oysters and my favorite was the isla d. You get a bunch of different dipping sauces as well-cocktail, Louisiana hot sauce, vinegar like dip, and spicy Asian oriented sauce. I enjoyed the spicy sauce and the louisana sauce with the oysters. They were small but they went down easy. Rating: 5 stars Also tried French fries which were on the soggy/soft side but I kinda like my fries like that. Rating: 4 stars The blue crab fingers were good it was in a nuoc mam type dip soaked in it and the flavors blended well especially with crab. They were easy to nibble on and get the meat out of the claws. They were definitely Asian inspired. Rating;5 stars The next meal was the fish and chips and the fish tasted a bit bland to me it's not like the traditional fish and chips you would normally find. Rating:1 star The octopus was really tender and soft I think it would've been better fried or more crunchy. The flavors were good though it had peanuts which paired well. It did not have a fishy flavor at all so they did good on that part and it wasn't chewy. The other meal was the gumbo and that was a really weird take on gumbo. I guess this is more of an acquired tastes but it didn't fit my palate. I didn't like this one. The sausages had some flavor but again the flavors were not it for me. Rating: one star Hamachi crudo: this was not it for me I don't think the coconut was a good combination with hamachi. It was more of a creamy flavor to it and I think it takes away from the fish. I think something to brighten the fish would be better like something more citrusy or spicy fish sauce much like the crab fingers. Rating: 1 star Last, but not least was dessert. I had the vanilla bean crème brulee and this was a good portion that was Sharable and delicious! Rating: 5 stars

    I have not tried the 7-course tasting menu, but what I have tried is FANTASTIC! I do not think you can go wrong with anything on the menu

    Do you need to make reservations for happy hour?

    I know HH is from 1-5pm, but not idea if reservation is required. For diner.... Sure you need it

    Do you still offer Sunday Suppers and Happy Hours?

    Hello! We no longer offer Sunday Supper unfortunately, but we do have oyster happy hour until 6PM, Monday through Friday.

    I went with a few gf friends and the waiter was able to point out several gf options. I do not remember many gf & vegan options though- from what I remember my friends both ordered a meat dish.

    I saw some pictures of a seafood dish, it is like a seafood tower with oysters and shrimps and libsters. i couldnt find it on the menu, what is the price?

    It depends on the seafood tower but the small one was running around $79 and the State of Grace tower was running around $125-150

    Is there a dress code?

    Hi!! We are a casual/elegant neighborhood restaurant and we want you to be comfortable first and foremost. There is no dress code but most guests dress in business casual or dressy casual attire. Please let me know if you have any other questions… 

    Is it noisy?

    Yes quite noisy. But if you ask to be seated in the small room it is pretty quiet.

Both dishes were more on the bland side and the Tiramisu was just okay to me. Perhaps the ladyfingers were soaked too long or something because I didn't get any texture of it. I also did not taste any coffee flavor. I definitely would not order that again.

The team behind the popular restaurant Nobie's opened up this tiki inspired restaurant. Tiki bars happen to be one of my favorite varieties of bars so I was more than excited to finally check it off my list. I had recently seen them on the Food Network as well. They share a lot with another popular dining spot so parking can be a little difficult in their lot. You can find street parking or park across the street in an overflow lot. Customer service was great from start to finish. We had just ate next door and our intentions were to come in here just for cocktails, but I couldn't leave without trying some of the popular items. I wanted the most tropical drink I could find on the menu so I started off with the Blue Hawaiian. I saw fire on the description so my extra self needed to have it. I'm a big rum guy so this drink was right up my alley and very boozy with two types of rum. It was very coconut forward with pineapple being the secondary flavor. One was enough for me to feel just right. Since we had just ate, we decided to share the World Famous Cheeseburger. This was a great burger. I don't know if they were going for the smash effect, but it had smash burger characteristics. It had all my favorite things that are musts on a burger like American cheese and red onions. It also had a very nice chili aioli that added great flavor to the burger. I came on another stop for a drink visit shortly after and tried the pork dumplings and popcorn chicken. These were also very good. If I lived in the area, this place would easily be a place I would frequent often. I will most definitely be back!

They have an outdoor eating area, a bar area, and seating in the very back. It's very spacious, comfortable, and intimate. The theme of the restaurant is seen all over from the moment you enter, to the music, the menu and the restroom. They paid close attention to detail with decorating. We had an amazing server, delicious drinks (a must try), and ok food. We ordered four drinks the painkilla, vamos à la playa, captains grog, and the Hemingway daiquiri. All were great drinks and we loved how they give you flavor characteristics of the drinks on the menu. The appetizers that we ordered were the sweet and sour cauliflower and the pork dumplings, which is why I gave this place four stars. The presentation of both appetizers were excellent. However, the pork dumplings were disappointing. They came with only six dumplings for $17, were served cold, and are very bland. In my opinion, they weren't worth the price. On the other hand, the sweet and sour cauliflower was our favorite and is definitely a must-try.

But we took it up another notch and rented out their private upper room for my wife's birthday party last month. That was incredible. They handled all the details and were very accommodating. The space was comfortable for up to 20 people. We had a few kids in our group and they had great food options for them as well. Also since it was a private area, our kids could roam without bothering anyone else. We will definitely do more parties like this here in the future.     My friend and I had dinner at Roost last month for Eat Drink HTX. We choose Roost because of their…read moremenu offerings listed on the EDH website. We informed our server that we were planning to order from the EDH menu. The EDH menu was listed on a small card on the table. We asked about menu items and double checked to make sure the deal included all three courses. The only stipulation communicated by our server was that the dessert course did not include the Skillet Baked Brie. I started with a glass of rosé. Because it was a Tuesday, they had happy hour all day. The rosé was very good. 1st Course: We shared the Crispy Artichokes and The Famous Fried Cauliflower. Both appetizers were good, but we really enjoyed the artichokes! They were so flavorful and I enjoyed the breading. The waving of the Bonito flakes on the cauliflower was cool. 2nd Course: I had the Auberge Burger and it was really good! It had onions and truffle aioli which I love! It was very filling, especially with the fries. My friend enjoyed the Free Range Chicken. 3rd Course: We had the Coffee N' Donut Holes and the Caramel Apple Bread Pudding. I preferred the Donut Holes, especially with the espresso ice cream. When it was time to close out, we could not find our server anywhere. He disappeared at some point and we never saw him the rest of the night. We noticed an issue with our bill so a different server came over. We were under the impression that the EDH deal included three courses, however the server informed us that it's two courses (appetizer and entrée or entrée and dessert). We looked at the menu card on the table again and the server pointed to the tiny print listed at the top right corner of the card where it stated that it was a choice of two courses. Discrepancies can happen with what's published on the EDH website and what's printed on the menu in the restaurant, but it's frustrating because the two course stipulation wasn't clearly communicated by our server when we asked questions. Out of curiosity, I went to the EDH website today (3-22-26) to see if the menu was still up (it is). It lists all three courses and does not state that it's a choice of two courses. I'll give the business the benefit of the doubt that they weren't trying to bait and switch customers because miscommunications and misunderstandings happen. But it's a bit disheartening to see the business respond to customers in a passive aggressive tone. Clearly many customers were confused on the EDH deal, as it seems to have been an ongoing issue. I enjoyed my meal at the restaurant and I thought the service was good despite the confusion with the EDH deal. But after reading some of the owner's responses to customers and seeing a snarky IG story about the confusion over the EDH offer, it's left a bad taste. To paraphrase Maya Angelou, "...people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."
