This is a cool joint. The vibe (imagine hip/rustic basement) is great, the music (often live) is loud, and the drinks (from fancy cocktails to craft beer) are cold. If that's your scene, this is the place for you. NOTE: The food is NOT great. We tried 2 different pizzas (pepperoni/jack cheese and mushroom). And the service (like the rest of Congress Hall's restaurants) is just NOT good. But if you're not hungry and you can handle going to the bar to get your own drinks, it's worth a stop. I was quite disappointed with my experience. I chose this place to hang out with my friends based on the awesome reviews I read. The atmosphere is indeed cool. Service was pretty bad. This poor guy was running around trying to accommodate me and my friends and he looked like he was the only one doing his job there. He got us a table and was super nice. It took forever for the server to come to our table and we were never given a menu. Among the 5 of us, we had pizza, garlic bread stix, and salads. Pizza was decent, nothing special, my friends returned their salads, saying it was sour and tasted bad (they both had Caesar). I give this place a 3-star review because of the atmosphere... It was a cool place to hang out and have some drinks, but go eat somewhere else. read more

Loved this place! Both the pizza and drinks were delicious .. and the live band (Fuzzy Paradise) was REALLY good. We had the Arugula/Prosciutto pizza and a special pizza they had with creamed corn base and zucchini/eggplant. Went looking for a lounge atmosphere with dark rooms and good drinks. This place fit the bill. Live music played as we sat at a high top table around the bar ordering drinks. There are couches, but not near the band area and the couch area was too well lit to be romantic. Although the boiler room is a very cool idea, it does not exactly live up to it's expectations. The boiler room has plenty of tv's and always seems to be crowded: two good things. However, their most know dish, the flatbread pizza, disappointed. It was a "healthy" pizza and was made in organic farms, as the nice waitors and waitresses told us. For those on a diet or looking for a healthy meal option, you will be satisfied. But for those who are looking for a yummy, savory, pizza, it is not here at the boiler room. Absolutely fabulous! The drinks are strange until you actually TRY THEM! The pizza is fantastic, and that's saying something coming from a Brooklyn native (get the white pizza with truffle oil!). I have only dined here one time and it was mainly for the appetizers and to watch the game before a dinner reservation. I stayed at Congress Hall and I can honestly say the restaurants carry the hotel more than the amenities at the hotel. The boiler room is a great place with a lot of history - which is perfect for the town of Cape May. This restaurant lies in the basement of the Congress Hall hotel and was built during the prohibition era. They mainly serve different drinks and pizzas, but they have amazing appetizers as well. I would definitely recommend the veal meatballs and the focaccia bread they have on their appetizers menu. They have a decent selection of craft beers as well as IPA's, and of course their local beers from the Cape May brewing company, which is a staple in my opinion. I would highly recommend this establishment to others as it is the perfect atmosphere for all ages. It is family friendly, so don't worry about bringing the kids! Great place to go! read more

We ended up here for dinner after several other choices either had no tables or a super long wait or were too expensive. It is in the basement of congress hall so has a dungeon feeling which is cool. It is nicely decorated with couch seating as well as tables bar tables and a small bar area. Very casual and laid back. An open wood fire oven area is on display. We enjoyed a huge salad with local ingredients from beach plum farm for $5. We each chose a 7in pizza and shared them. They were tasty with local veggies and toppings and delicious. Good beer selection. Dinner for 2 with a beer each with tip was about $45. That was the amount for 1 person at the other restaurants in this group. This is the bar downstairs at Congress Hall. My wife and I went there on a Saturday night and it was really fun. There was a really good band playing and there is a sunken floor dance floor right in front. It started out pretty slow but after a few songs the dance floor filled up. Like the rest of Cape May there was an older crowd here. There were a lot of TVs as well so I would think it would be a great place to watch the game. read more

My husband and I came here on a busy Friday night and were seated at a two top table between two other two tops with one half being booths. It was definitely a little tight but the ambiance was worth it and the service proved to surprise us. The table to my left finished and within a few minutes someone who seemed to be some sort of manager offered to move us to that table to give us more space and moved our table to the couple to my right so they had more space for their entrees which had just arrived. I wish we got her name because throughout our time there I saw her be equally thoughtful and proactive with other customers. The drinks were delicious and everyone we interacted with was friendly and helpful. Final bill was surprisingly low and we had a great time. Will definitely come back. read more

i forgot to check in while i was here, but i'd totally go back. my boyfriend knew about the place and told me i'd love it. it's pretty cool because you get to congress hall - huge fancy hotel. you walk in and there's a bar called the brown room that looks very fancy and pretty waspy. then you walk downstairs to see a lounge/speakeasy/club-style bar. basically, the rich oldies hang out upstairs and the hip kids downstairs. at least that seems to be what they're catering to, but i actually saw a lot of people old enough to be my parents having a great time down there. the place was super crowded and we happened to be standing behind a couple that got up so we scored bar seats but out of sheer luck. the bartenders were pretty busy, but still relatively attentive. i just got a simple jack and diet to drink but i bet they make some pretty cool cocktails. there was a cover band playing on the other side of the bar. a lot of cheesy music, but they did a good job with it. i was entertained regardless, as was the full dance floor. we didn't stay too long, as drinks were pretty pricey but we both had a great time while we were there. read more

New Year's Eve had a great band we follow during the season with a $20 cover that featured "a buffet". Nachos with watery cheese sauce, "chili" with no meat to speak about and macaroni & cheese don't cut it. We spend a lot of time in the various bars and restaurants in and around Congress Hall and this night fell far below our past experience. A lot of new staff and low level of welcome. This place has really good food. And that's the only reason it got one star lol. We came like after 930 which they say that they stop serving? But they still offer service? None of the staff knew what was going on and didn't really communicate well with costumers. The bus boys were sitting around doing NOTHING we had to go up and ask them to come bus our table???? And they gave us so much sass! We didn't have a server come to us until like 20 minutes of sitting. Because none of them know how to communicate. Then we order TWO PIZZAS: The Berkshire and the prosciutto and arugula. We were given our first pizza, which was the margarita pizza....didn't order. But our server said she mistakenly heard so we kept and we waited for our other two pizzas. Finally our two pizzas arrive..NO! We get one Arugula pizza and a Margarita pizza. We told our server again. And she said she was sorry and put in an order for a Berkshire. We then finally got our Berkshire pizza... nope lol we got ANOTHER ARGULA. Then they charged us for the Berkshire which we never got lol. I do have to say she was SUPER busy town there and SHE WAS THE ONLY ONE ACTUALLY WORKING!!!! And she was soooo so nice. It's unfortunate none of her staff would help her and this mistake happened because of that. This place has a unique atmosphere in the basement of the hotel. it's cozy and can get crowded, but everyone was friendly. Had a great time with our parents (in their 70s) who were celebrating our anniversary with us. Great live band and dance floor. Even danced with my father-in-law! This place is so cool! It's in the Congress Hall hotel and you have to go down the stairs in order to get to it. It's got that 1920's speakeasy feel to it and has the awesome dark and red lighting. Drinks were good here too but we especially loved our bartender! She was super sweet to us and recommended we try out the Willow Creek Winery and get the Manmosa at the Mad Batter restaurant- because of her recommendations (which we went to) we had an even more amazing time in Cape May!
