Wow Boiling Point has changed... not in a good way. Last time I came here was winter and it was still good. Remember a couple years ago when they raised the prices of each pot but promised more meat? They did deliver... until now. It used to be a mound of meat but now it's back to the amount pre-price increase. They also fill up the pot less. I have always gotten the smaller pots and have always been full because they jam it pack with veggies and things to the point where you couldn't see spots with just soup in the pot. Today, I got a big pot thinking to bring home some, but it wasn't even filling. They don't even have their signature IBP fish cake. The Miso pot used to have 2 corns - now it's one. They dont have the bean curd skin anymore. They only offer 3 sauces instead of 4. Also, don't make the same mistake as me by listening to influencers saying that you can change the meat for free. It cost me $2.95 to change pork to beef. Insane prices. They've also changed their signature dessert. It is no longer the cute little jelly packs. It's some homemade water+chia seeds in a small container with a lid that leaks. This has done it for me and I'm sure for a lot of people too as a once packed place has become half empty. read more

It's been awhile since I've had lunch here and it looks like they updated their menu. They removed 'Thai Tomato,' which was delicious and added 'the Hot Green.' 3.5 stars! I came here to try their new rose milk hot pot and was curious since I hadn't had Boiling Point in quite a few years.The space felt very wide and industrial. There were some interesting things inside the soup like broccoli and string beans (two things I wouldn't normally get), the broth grew on me with its slight milkness though note it's super hot and you cannot control the heat! The lack of customization is also a bit of a draw along with the ~$25 price but the portions are quite large; I was able to turn it into another meal. I haven't been to Boiling Point since high school and I came here with my friend since there was a $10 off promotion on social media. The restaurant has a nice layout but I feel like it could be cleaner. I got the Korean Bean Paste soup in medium spice and was surprised to see the amount of crown daisy in my pot; it did not look like the picture on the menu! While I didn't mind the extra vegetables and the portion of meat was generous, I think I prefer eating hot pot at other places. Also, since the pot was cooking as I ate (the staff lit a flammable gel under the pot), the soup started to boil halfway through my meal and I would have burned my mouth if I wasn't careful. I remembered that I really liked Boiling Point years ago, however I think with more hot pot restaurants opening, my standards have changed. The food is good but the service is terrible. They need to train their staff to at least pretend to care a little more. I walk in and ask for a high chair, the staff gives a huff. It's not busy, but the waitress obviously is put out because I need a high chair for my kid. They bring my drink, but no water for my son. So I ask for some and the waitress all but rolls her eyes at me. Unfortunately my kid knocks over the cup of water by accident, so I ask them to clean it. The waiter comes over, looks shocked and just stairs at the water. I'm like uhhhh can you wipe it up? He grabs some paper and just puts it on top and makes me do the cleaning. Of all the places we've got takeout from, Boiling Point is probably the most consistent in the area. We were never blown away by anything, but they were consistently pretty good, with the same moderately generous portions each time. The tea also tasted the same every time. For better or for worse, it's like eating something coming off of a factory assembly line. It may not be as good as the best dish you can get from a place that's hit or miss, but you're also not likely to get a total dud. Every time I visit, I'm absolutely stuffed. Specializing in individual pots, Taiwanese style, all of the 10-ish ingredients are boiling hot when placed on your table, and it's a fulfilling feeling digging through the next bite. The broths pack a punch in spice and in umami, especially when paired with a dipping sauce. The meat has just enough flavor to reach past the other ingredients, while holding everything together with a familiarly unique texture. That being said, mild is the level of spice; I've seen quite a few people unable to finish because of how hot the spicy variations are. I usually come for dinner with friends, but it's generally better to have lunch because of the free drink (green or black tea). Wait times are generally 15 minutes, which is very efficient considering all of the ingredients managed. I've been to their other locations in the states, and the food at this location in Vancouver is exactly the same. I came for Friday dinner with 5 others around 6 pm. Because we were a larger group, we had to wait 30 minutes for two neighboring tables to be available. From what I saw, most of their tables are for 4 people, so I recommend coming with max 4 people to make seating easier. I went with the beef hot pot. You can also choose whether you want rice or noodles as well as the spice level. I have zero spice tolerance, so I went with level zero. Even that was a little bit spicy for me, so I can't imagine how spicy their spiciest level is... Our food came out fairly quickly, within 10 minutes of ordering. Everything in the pot is cooked already, and they have a small flame at the bottom of each pot to keep your food hot as you're eating. Everything in the pot was delicious, especially when paired with their dipping sauces which you can mix and match. Portions are big as well; some folks in my group couldn't finish their food. I managed to finish it, but it was definitely a struggle by the end. It's a popular dinner spot. By the time we finished eating around 8, there were still people waiting for a table outside. They take Covid rules very seriously here--which I really respect! They make sure there's proper social distancing between tables, really wipe down the tables after use (we could smell the cleaner agent when they wiped down a table next to us), and was carefully making sure our Covid passports/IDs checked out. I love eating out boiling point. My only gripe is that I'm allergic to peanuts and so I can't really get their beef hot pot. I always have to get another hot pot -- which basically mostly comes with pork. And I'm not allowed to switch out the pork for beef :( Always nice to come during lunch as the pots are a little cheaper (despite being exactly the same) and you get a free drink (sweetened green tea or black tea) with your meal! Came here with B. We got our usual. I got the lamb hotpot and he got the beef hotpot. Because we came during Covid time, there was a line up in front of us. We were third in line and the wait was like 10 - 15 mins (arrived at 5:50pm on a Friday). It was not too bad. B had to rush home by 8:30 and at first we were not sure if we would make it back. I have to say service was quick and food came really quick as well. I was surprised. We sat down at around 6:05 pm and finished our food at 7 pm and made it home at 7:30pm. Best of all half way eating, the server came by and asked if we wanted the fire to be put out (located at the bottom of the pot). We said yes. Without it constantly boiling, we can eat even faster. We really liked the sauce that comes with our hotpot. Overall, the food was very tasty. I sometimes wished that there are more meat. Great food and great service. There is something about their chopsticks. They are not easy to use or maybe it is just me. Note that the lunch and dinner price is slight different for the same size. The dinner is $1 more and if you come here during lunch time, you get free drinks. It is somewhat hard for us to make it here during lunch time because I work on weekdays unless I do weekend. Feeling lazy ordered on door dash. We ordered two beef One mild and one spicy. ( my mild definitely wasn't mild) it was still super spicy! And seriously lacking flavour. Definitely not what I'm used to from boiling point. It came with 3 packets of sauce. I combined two sauces and noticed right away a strange taste. Tried it a few more times and knew for sure I couldn't eat those sauces. I Even tried both sauces seperate and they both tasted funky. They passed the phone to another girl and she kept saying that because the expiration date said it wasn't expired they were going by that. Lol. I came here several times before and went to the location in Richmond. In this location, parking is quite a bit of a challenge even though there is street parking. However when your hungry and your mind is determined to find that parking - Hunger Games in finding street parking will start to creep in. Location is fairly the same size as the Richmond location and is fairly busy, as the Vancouver weather starts to get colder - people in general would like to eat something a little warmer such as Taiwanese Hotpot. They place it in front of you then light a small fire under it, then you eat! On vacation with my family from California to Vancouver. We eat BP a LOT back in the states and our culture is huge on customer service, quality, and delivering what's promised. We waited for over an hour, which was pretty much expected. Service wasn't that great- we were seated at the end of the restaurant and the one time someone came to check-in on us without us waiving our hands in the air for over 3 minutes was to ask if we wanted them to put out the fire... which is funny because we still had ramen and vermicelli that was uncooked. I guess she thought we could cook our food without fire? Or eat them raw? Afterwards, we had to really wave down someone to get their attention so that we could get water refills. We actually also had to ASK for our vermicelli (which is included with every pot) as the rest of our food came out and no one brought out the accompanying items. Outside the restaurant, there is a sign that is put out next to the sidewalk that advertises their BOGO drink (picture will be uploaded after this review). The sign clearly states that it applies to M-F from 11AM-11PM. We went on a Tuesday night at 8PM and was denied BOGO. After dinner, I walked back outside to look at the sign, took a picture of it, then went back inside to ask the waiters why we were denied BOGO when the sign outside AND the two signs on the walls inside the restaurant clearly stated that there was BOGO for drinks M-F during working hours. They were confused and told us in the end that "upper management just told us we can't serve that today because it's New Years." My next question was, "Okay, then why did you guys move the sign outside to the curb to advertise it?" He had no answer for me. This, my friends, is called false advertisement. Signs by curbs are generally moved outside during the morning and put back at night during closing. I know this because I've worked in both restaurant and retail. Even if your management is not offering BOGO on that day, I'm not sure who thought it was a good idea to move the sign out and advertise it anyway. In US, that would've been a quick and easy lawsuit- which is why most servers would just offer the promo for free anyway (by the way, the cost of a drink is literally a cent- I've worked over 4 years in a Taiwanese chain that rivaled and does better than BP in CA). In Canada, I searched up the laws immediately and found that false advertisement is ALSO -not surprisingly- illegal. Unfortunately, most customers just want to carry on their merry day without too much trouble, allowing things like that to continue. If BP doesn't want to shut down or cause any problems for itself in the future, I'd advice being very careful about the things they continue to advertise and to be a little more cautious about service or how they deal with specific changes/situations. "I don't know" is never an acceptable answer if you want to provide quality service and to create a good rep. for your business. read more

The best part about this place IMO is the oil with garlic you can add to dishes. That was tasty and I could probably eat that with anything!! Anyways, I ordered the seafood and tofu soup... And contrary to the menu picture that was overflowing with goodness in soup... what I received was basically just broth with only one fish cake, an egg, 2 shrimp, a couple pieces of meat, 4-5 pieces of small tofu and barely any vegetables and even less noodles. Really I didn't leave full at all since I mainly felt like I consumed a lot of hot water with garlic oil to favor it up more, even with asking for the soup with medium spice. The waitress was friendly enough but forgot to bring our side of tempura. My friend got a different spicy hot pot style which had less spice than mine. There is a waiting area, and the owners are pretty hardcore about this. Instead of a clipboard or host like any other place, they use an electronic machine where one can take a number. There is even a set of "waiting room rules" taped to the wall. I didn't see anyone get the smack down when we went. The interior of the restaurant is modern but casual. Seating is quite cramped here, so group maximum is 4. The hot pot quality here is consistent with the Richmond location (hits the spot, but a wee bit small). The soup is full of flavour, and the goodies are decently fresh. I also tried the stinky tofu. Decent, but nowhere near as good as Asia (obviously), or the night market. The service and food quality here is always so good, and I never have to wait long to get both my food and order taken. The prices are also right here too. It's so cheap to get a single pot for yourself compared to other hot pot places in Vancouver. For dinner, you can get a pot for roughly around $15 and that's pretty great considering the amount of food you get in the pot! They filled the soup in my pot to the brim and soup ended up on my table when I went to eat. I informed the server and all she did was bring me more napkins to wipe it up. When I asked for someone to wipe it with a wet cloth, she looked at me like I was crazy. Was disappointed to see that since someone else last mentioned the excessive use of throwaway cups Boiling Point uses, nothing has changed. Still plastic bbt cups on every table, and throwaway cups for water. This seems completely unnecessary to me - restaurants around the world pour drinking water into reusable glasses for diners. Many similar Taiwanese restaurants I've been to also offer Bbt on the menu, but they prepare the drink in a - you guessed it - reusable glass! It's easy to say you're "looking into other options" and not change. I hope that Boiling Point will make this relatively easy switch and save thousands of plastic cups from the landfill each year. Came here with a friend on a weekday evening, and it was not too busy. We were seated right away and our food also arrived fairly quickly. I tried the Korean style soup for my hot pot and my friend tried the beef hot pot. The great thing about individual hot pots - ability to choose different soups and spiciness! The ingredients come pre-selected, so it makes things easier that way too. You have the choice of rice or vermicelli. The vermicelli comes uncooked, so you have to figure out a way to fit it into your pot after things boil down or you start on your meal. One thing I noticed was that the fish balls and fish tofu are not straight fish - they also include (I think) cuttlefish. I have a mild allergy to cuttlefish/squid/octopus (sad, I know) so I felt it and stopped eating those right away. In the past, I would give 4.5stars for this place (specifically this location) but now maybe just 3stars. I usually come here like once or twice a month, but since busy with life, the last time I came here probably April (if i remember correctly, and during my last visit i'm still happy with everything) However, I did visit their other locations in between since the other location close to my school and workplace and still love with the hotpot. Anyway, I will review about my visit today in Burnaby location. I came here around 2pm-ish, it's busy but I only wait for 5min . So my friend and I ordered the curry with cream this time (we share since we always share). They increased their price already (i think this happened quite long ago), but then when the hotpot came out, I was so shocked. The portion is way less than usual :/ (even less than the other location that I visit like 3weeks ago) and the taste is also not as good as other location, no idea what's wrong but the taste is not "kick" my mouth. Like even the veggie (napa) were very little (usually whenever I scoped, I got the veggie all the times). The pork is like become one chunk (usually it will be small slices seperately), so its hard for me and my friend to divide the meat at first. The rice portion is also smaller. veggie is cheap, you can just put lots of veggie to make the hotpot looks full (since i love veggie so much). Service is okay, no change for the service compare to my last visit. but the portion and the taste ..... well, I like to come this branch because of location based, it is easier for my parents and me since it just 10-15 min walk from metrotown. for other branch, it's not convenience for my parents since we don't drive. We have to wait for the bus and it is far from our places and so on (but they have way better better taste and portion). so, little bit dissapointed with my visit today at this branch read more

I come here so often but I realized I haven't updated my review. This is definitely my FAVORITE place in Lower Mainland for food, especially for a hotpot fanatic like me. There seems to be a recent price hike (also a new menu design), but there seems to also be more food in the pot! [WHAT I LOVE] Your own personal hotpot. You don't have to share (but you still can)! Each pot also comes with a ton of different ingredients (at least ten). I prefer this over AYCE because 1) there's so much food I'm always full by the end, 2) it's cheaper than AYCE, 3) you don't severely overeat. I have tried most things but these are the favorites: #3 - Korean bean paste #4 - Beef #5 - Lamb #8 - Taiwanese spicy I generally order things very spicy or flaming spicy. [DECOR] The small table space in the aisle is not the most comfortable but the booth seating is lovely. There's also a box on the ground for our belongings so we don't have to put them on the floor. I love the hanging lamps and the painted walls. [SERVICE] Generally quite fast, sometimes they get extremely busy and may be less attentive to whether you need more napkins, soup, or water. [ONLY DOWNSIDE] You can't split the bill. The place is always PACKED with people except during off hours, but that just speaks to how popular it is. read more
