AREA: Boiling point is located by many different restaurants/tea places in a small plaza. Beware when it comes to parking; there are many stores but only so much parking for everyone. But there are always people leaving. The wait at Boiling Point was about an hour and a half. They had a little seating area in front of their store for their customers to wait too, which was nice but I'm not sure if it's permanent. They call your number three times I believe, and if you don't respond by the third time, they cross you off the waiting list. Which is understandable. There is a small bakery 2 stores down that is really cute and yummy if you're starving and need a snack (which is where we went while we waited). The restaurant is pretty small on the inside for a hot pot place. FOOD: Very very very delicious! Especially after a LONG hike in Boulder Creek. The portion is perfect for one person, whether it's a small or large. However, if you don't have a large appetite, I would recommend sharing and ordering an extra bowl of rice for yourself. Each hot pot you order comes with a bowl of rice for dinner. Lunch gets rice and a drink. My boyfriend ordered #10 very spicy - Thai spicy soup, his friend ordered the medium curry fish ball soup (I forgot the number), and my friend and I ordered #8 flaming hot - Spicy Taiwanese soup. Side note: they don't do substitutions. All of the soups were delicious and flavorful. My boyfriend said his could've been a bit more sour but nonetheless delicious and up to par. The curry fish ball soup tasted really yummy; they put the perfect amount of curry. And finally, the spicy Taiwanese soup was the BEST in my opinion. It was very spicy but VERY FLAVORFUL. I would recommend the Taiwanese soup over the rest but that solely depends on what type of meat a person likes. Beware though, the Taiwanese soup only comes in Flaming Hot; they won't change the spice level for you if you ask (I tried lol). The spice level wasn't what I expected. I would say every thing should have been a level down. For example, flaming hot should be very spicy, and very spicy should be medium, and so on. So if you can take the heat, go one up than what you think you can handle. HAIKKADO MILK TEA IS A MUST. I read on yelp that they don't sell this drink anywhere else and its apparently their most popular drink so I had to try it. It was one of a kind and honestly, it was so good, I'm still craving it. I hope they keep this drink around! CUSTOMER SERVICE: Let's just say they are worth tipping. Although they don't always have a smile on their face, they are quick to help you right away. There is always an employee standing close by in case you need to ask for more napkins or water. They don't bother you when you're eating but they do walk by to check if you're low on water. My boyfriend likes his soup extremely hot so when his fire ran out, the employee gladly relit it for him. They don't have extraordinary customer service but they do have good customer service. Finally got a chance to check out Boiling Point and see what all the hype was about. Got there around 6:30pm/7:00pm on a weekday - business was flowing, though it wasn't overly packed. I think we would have been seated somewhat quickly; however, our entire party wasn't there, so we took a number and waited. Unfortunately, we missed the call for our number (and some other complications) and people started piling in. It became a good 45 minutes before we finally got seated. Decor: The restaurant itself is modern and trendy. Black/white/grey color schemes fashioned with nice wooden tables. Threw me off a little as it wasn't the type of environment I was expecting for a hot pot place. However, it looks like they also serve boba drinks as well as ice cream (more fitting for the decor). Heck, throw in some beers and this place could also turn into a hipster craft brew spot. Food: I ordered their house bowl (think it was $13 for dinner) - figured I'd be safe with this order considering it was my first time there. Waitress comes out with this square box - sitting on top is a metal bowl with a yummy looking spread of hot pot. They place the box in front of you, and there's some fuel burning to keep your food hot. Unfortunately, the flame isn't adjustable - you can only have it on or off. Not a big deal, but I spent a lot of time waiting for my soup/food to cool down since my tongue is a big fat cry baby when it comes to hot temperatures. Everything comes with a side of white rice. My bowl of soup came with meat (beef?), pork blood cubes with rice (I gagged when I was told it was pork blood, but it actually tasted OK), one clam, one baby egg (I'm not sophisticated enough to ID the bird creature), slice of tomato, picked veggies, and some other stuff. No noodles, unless you pay extra to add it in. Keep in mind, everything has already been cooked for you. The cool factor in this is that your food is sitting on top of it's own baby stove. Soooo....presentation is good, what about taste? Weeellllll....it was OK. I mean, nothing about the meal really stood out. The sauce they provided was mediocre. I dipped the beef into it and well, it wasn't bad or great. The broth was a tad spicy for me (you can order various levels of spiciness), so I can't really comment on the soup since my mouth was burning 20% of the time. All the other toppings added color and variety to the soup (it was sure pretty), but the meal just lacked some uMpHHHhhhhh. Like when you're at a rave (do they have those anymore?) and you're waiting for the bass to drop. Service: Was OK. Only comment was I thought it was strange they served water in small Styrofoam cups. As you might expect, there's pretty much always a pretty long wait for this place. Compared to the Boiling Point down in Irvine, I don't think this one's as good. The portions seem less, have less variety of ingredients for the same pot, and don't seem to taste as good or match the quality of their southern California location. The food here isn't anything that'll make you go "wow, this is amazing". It's the kind of decent food where you just eat it silently and don't really make any negative or positive comments about it. For the price, I personally don't think it's really worth it. You're paying more for the experience than the food, and even then, if you're really craving personal Taiwanese hot pot, I'd recommend Tasty Pot on Story Road in San Jose. The wait is usually shorter, the food is the same (if not better), and, likewise, they offer free iced tea during lunch hours. The soCal Boiling Point is probably worth frequently going to (or at least once in a while), but this one...yeah. We ordered the Garlic Pork Belly and we had to remind the waiters about our order of it and when it came it tasted so peppery. Overindulgent, individual hotpots with a variety of sets for all tastes.   I've been back to this spot four times and it doesn't get old. There is something devilishly satisfying about digging into your own massive pot of precooked hotpot. Sure, communal hotpots are more traditional and social, but sometimes you just need some selfish, instant gratification. If you come on the weekends, beware. The line can be unfathomable. To avoid the wait, my friends and I usually try to come a few minutes before opening. Once, we got there 10 minutes after they opened, and we waited more than half an hour for the next round. We learned our lesson. The restaurant is small and good for parties of 2-4. It is lively and bright, with closely-placed tables. Service is fast; as with many Asian restaurants, you can call on any of the handful of waiters rushing around. Just don't expect your waiter to chat and ask you about your day. The menu is straightforward. Each person orders his or her own hotpot set. There are several sets to choose from, themed by different cuisines and ingredients (Korean, Japanese, Thai, lamb, beef, seafood etc.). Each of these sets come with the appropriate broth, and different ingredients. You get everything precooked and arranged in a steel pot over a small stove that continues boiling the broth, as well as a bowl of rice. It's $12.99 for lunch (plus an iced green/black tea) and $13.99 for dinner. Some of the larger sets cost $4 extra. My friend and I always crave spicy food, so we always end up ordering the same set: Taiwanese spicy hotpot. It comes in one spice level: flaming spicy. Boy they are not kidding. The pot is brimming with goodies like cabbage, instant noodles, beef, tempura, enoki mushrooms, clam, fishballs, cuttlefish, pork intestine, tofu and tofu skins, all soaked in a bubbling bright red concoction. Each mouthful burns your tongue, burns your throat, and burns your stomach. But it burns so good. The numbing spices and oils that saturate every bite are as authentic as it gets. And every bite only makes you crave more. The portion size is intense and I've never finished the dish (although the tempestuous inferno in my belly may also be a contributing factor). I love the variety of things in each hotpot. Sadly, they recently switched out the blood-rice cake with wasabi rice balls. But overall, it is a great value for $17. Once we were done with the meal (or had given up), the waiter came by with the check and a shot of frog-egg (sweet basil seeds) with syrup. Really disappointed with my most recent visit. Came here with a friend for dinner and we both ordered the Taiwanese spicy option. Neither of us like pork intestines, so we asked if we could substitute for tofu or something, and apparently you're not allowed to substitute, you can only take away items ... Not a big deal, ok. As I'm eating my pot, I get to the clams. Right as I eat it, I crunch on gravel. I'm not talking fine grain sand, I'm talking multiple pebbles. I bit down on them hard. I spat them out of my mouth and showed out waitress how big the stones were and asked if they even WASH the clams. Apparently they don't because they're frozen and shut when they arrive at the restaurant, so they don't open until you cook them ... What. There are methods of shucking them open and washing them you know? ... I'm sure there are other methods as well. This is really unacceptable. If other restaurants are able to do it, you have no excuse. The impression of this lack of effort is laziness and less than thorough work ethics. Thankfully the supervisor was understanding and asked if I would like to switch for a different pot. I'm assuming there was gravel dispersed throughout my pot as it as cooking. I was working close by the plaza and recalled one of my close friend told me how good the hot pot is at boiling point. So my co-worker and I decided to give it a shot. The menu say the store open at 11 but their website say the store open at 12... Still not sure how this work but oh well. Anyway, my co-worker she ordered the Japanese MIso pot and I ordered the Taiwanese stinky tofu pot. To be honest, I was not impressed by the food. The hot pot was kind of blent in my opinion. The Japanese MIso Pot, included a lot of vegetables (mostly cabbages), half crab, and some miscellaneous ingredients. Personally when I see the presentation of the food, I thought I can taste something sweet (due to the fact of some sea food and vegetables) and with a combination of miso. But I was wrong. The broth was blend, the food is tasteless if you don't use the soy sauce. The stinky tofu pot, I thought I could taste the authentic Taiwanese stinky tofu flavor (from Taiwan woot hoot), but then I was disappointed. So thankful for a boiling point in norcal. Came here around 12pm on Friday, and was seated immediately. Service was quick, and food came out quick. This place is a great place if you're craving hot pot, and it's served individually too so no need to fight over one pot! They didn't used to serve black/green tea along with your meal about year ago, but I guess things have changed now. The tea isn't too sweat, but it's like ordering a green tea 80% sweetness from a milk tea shop. If you're looking for a nice picture of your food, don't order the Seafood Hot Soup because last I remembered, they just smothered the pot with shredded lettuce on top. Made me laugh whenever I saw people order that. By the way, parking here is still crazy around peak hours on weekends. This time I got the Japanese Miso Hot Soup w/ mild spicyness. I've been to other hotpot places before. This seems like a different take on hotpot. Usually, at other places, one expect to get a boiling soup and a separate plate of food items. Here everything comes in a single boiling pan. The list of items for each dish seems like a long one, but there is only very little of everything. For vegetarians, there is only one option and that too not very tasty. The only carb option is white rice. I wish Boiling Point at the very least offers brown rice if not soba noodles or other healthier options. My go-to place when I want hot pot! The first time I tried BP was in SoCal, so I was thrilled when I found out BP had a location in Fremont. The location in Fremont was pretty small compared to the one in SoCal. So I wouldn't recommend a group any larger than 4. The service was super quick! I had already looked through the menu while waiting to be seated so right when I got to my table the waiter was ready to take my order. After I was done with my order, I waited about 5-8 minutes until the food arrived so it gave me enough time to wash my hands (employees wash hands before serving AND customers should wash hands before eating:). I ordered the #4 Beef (consisted of napa, vermicelli, sliced beef, corn, mushroom, tomato, tofu, meatball, fish cake, and imitation crab) for $15.36. They also charge $14.36 for the same dish during lunch hours. For all you meat lovers.... please don't expect a whole lot of beef. I guess I'm used to Shanghainese stinky tofu and not the Taiwanese one. My curry fishball hotpot was not as good as I remembered from Irvine, but it was still pretty good. What I come here for though is the sauce. The soybean garlic red sauce that is oh so delicious. Mix that in with the chili oil and the other sauce they have and you can make anything taste delicious!!! The second time I came here, I ordered the Taiwanese spicy hotpot and boy was that spicy. But it was so good, I loved it. They warned me it was going to be very spicy so at least I had a chance to back out, but I didn't. WAIT this...is pretty bad. -1/2 star. Lunch starts 12pm and I arrived 11:45am with a huge line in front of me already. Apparently people were showing up even before 11:30am to get spots..Didn't make it in until around 12:20pm but thankfully, we got in for round 1. We were #24 and I think they stopped taking people in because they were all full either right after us or 1-2 other numbers after us. The rest of the people probably had to wait another 1-1.5 hours for everyone who had just been seated to finish eating and leave. We ordered right away and it took them a while to make it. We didn't get our food until around 12:50pm so about a 30 minute wait for food which isn't TOO bad. I've heard that for weekends the wait can go up to 2-3 hours. To me that's definitely not worth it for the food. I'd probably wait at most 30 minutes like I did today, otherwise I'd just leave. It's not THAT THAT good to wait for 2-3 hours, honestly. RECOMMENDATION: Come on a weekday maybe 30 min before they open and line up to secure a spot the first round of seating! Weekends are just too crazy i think so stay away! Also, try the beef hot pot! It's super good! Start off with mild even if you think you can handle spice. I honestly don't know why people dislike this place so much it's soooo good for a really good price! Decent price and fills you up like crazy. I feel like people are angry because they have to wait 2-3+ hours just to eat and by that time expectations are way higher versus you going into the restaurant hungry and seated within 5 minutes. So, if you want a good meal maybe try to go on a weekday and early then it'll be super satisfying. I really enjoyed by pot (Taiwanese hot soup) it was super delicious I only recommend this flavor if you're able to eat SUPER spicy food which I love, it's very spicy but it feels so good!! I'm surprised this BP has negative reviews, but I was very impressed and happy with the quality of food and the price! From a chain in Taiwan, and then with several places in SoCal, Boiling Point has found a home here in Northern California in Fremont! FOOD: I got the house hot pot, which may be a deterrent for some people because of that fermented taste and stinky smell. I love it though. For 12.99, you get a personalized pot filled with vegetables, broth, meat (if you didn't get the vegetarian option), and a lot of goodies. I love how it is individualized because you get what you want and not have to do the shared pot to compromise with your fellow companions. You also get a bowl of rice, which I'm not used to with my hot pot. The pot is delicious and I felt like I was in Taiwan! The macaron ice cream sandwich, on the other hand, was pretty expensive (4.95) for a pretty small ice cream sandwich, but tasty nonetheless. SERVICE: Great service! We went on a Saturday night in which we had to wait for an hour. Sat down, got stinky tofu appetizer, which the server informed was on promotion for BOGO. I'm not going to lie, this review is a bit biased because I have an undying love for Boiling Point. Upon hearing that BP was opening in NorCal, I was extremely excited and then extremely sad to hear it was going to be in Fremont. I was expecting San Mateo at the furthest. But Fremont? Ugh. As much as I love BP, I wasn't going to drive (note: I don't have a driver's license so this means the bf would have to drive) ~1 hour and wait ~2-3 hours before eating. No. Now that BP's been open for...about 1.5 years (?), I thought it was time we were reunited. Last month, I went for the first time since its opening and IT. WAS. AWESOME. Also went again this month because why not! Wait: The bf and I arrived around 11:30 and were seated immediately. By 12/12:30, there was a LONG line. Being Sunday probably didn't help. We swung by on President's Day (Monday) around 1 p.m.-ish and waited 30 minutes for a table. Service: SO much better than the Irvine BP. All the servers are super attentive an easy to flag down even when it's a full house. Food: I always gets the Beef Hot Pot #4 medium spicy, and it did not disappoint. I was craving some BP and this was near me since I was in San Jose. This BP isn't as good as the BP in LA area. They put way too much cabbage, not enough meat or condiments or noodles :/ I didn't enjoy it that much. Service was alright, it wasn't that busy but they looked understaffed. Reading about the long waits here, we decided to give Boiling Point a try Sunday afternoon as soon as it opened for lunch. There was already a small crowd forming at the front when we arrived 10 min before open, but we were eventually seated after about a 15-20 min wait. Not bad at all. Beef: The spices and flavors were spot on. Not bland, and not lacking in ingredients either. The amount of meat and vegetables was definitely satisfying. If you have high tolerance for spiciness, "very spicy" is doable. Japanese Miso: Tastes exactly of miso but with a spicy kick to it. Not much more to say except that it was delicious. Hard to say which one was better. The complimentary black or green tea with our meal was a nice service. Our server was attentive and helpful. Hostess could work on her welcoming skills, but other than that, I enjoyed my experience here and would definitely go back. read more

Came here with friends on a Thursday and it wasn't too busy. We put our names on the tablet and waited about 10 minutes. Our orders came out quick. I ordered the mild beef pot and it was pretty spicy to be honest. I didn't expect it to be that spicy... I would probably order none next time. Anyways, the pot had lots of toppings but unfortunately not as much vermicelli. The service is pretty good, the young guy who took our order was very nice! read more

Wow!!! I've to say that Taiwanese beef soup is super spicy. I can handle spicy food but got caught off guard of their spices. My wife was laughing at how I coughed with every bite. Anyway, the broth was tasty and the meat combination is quite good. I wish they offer lower level of spices so I can enjoy the soup while working my way up to their normal level... :-) read more

I might be spoiled but I felt that this place was a bit more expensive than I'm used to. Tasty pot does the exact same thing but cheaper and the lunch combo also includes a drink. However I don't think there's one up in NorCal so rip. Anyways I got the house pot #1 medium spicy and it was pretty good! The portions were large and filling and the free tea definitely helps with digesting. I really liked the tofu and the branded fish tofu. I was here on a company lunch and my general manager ate hella fast so I was hella pressured to eat fast too. Overall a nice place but nothing too special. Idk why my coworkers like this place so much lol they come here at least once a week. read more

First, I'm from LA where Boiling Point originated. I'm used to the wait and understand it can take time to get to a table. For me BP is always a 3. The food is great if you love stinky tofu, just pick the hot pot that has the flavors and proteins you want. Service is always meh at best, you need to be aggressive to get a server over to you for Napkins, a drink, etc. I came here twice during my Norcal trip. We walked out the first time we came because their seating host is incompetent. They have this check in waiting app that text's you. And its great in practice if you turn tables at a reasonable rate and get people seated. We were near the entrance for close to 15-20 minutes with at least 2-3 tables open, when a waitress tried to shoo us out the front door because it was "too crowded." The second time I came here, there was a full 8 seats in the front that could have been seated right away, but the host didn't. They waited for more tables in the back to clear and seated in that section. Food here is good. I have no confidence in their host/seating person and they turn tables really slow read more

Came here to try their famous Taiwanese soup. When we got seated, I noticed there was soup spilled on the floor from previous customers that sat at the same table. As I was about to use the restroom, my foot slipped and I almost fell due to the soup on the floor. I asked one of the employees if we could move to a different table. They were able to do so. Once we got our food, everything looked good although, the portion was significantly small for a dinner price of $16/$19. Next to us, sat another gentlemen who coughed consecutively many times. He blew his nose obnoxiously in public and it was utterly digusting trying to focus on my food and enjoy it while feeling the air of this persons contagious cough flow my direction.. I quickly had asked one of the associates if we could possibly move to a different table. And he said no. I said why? It is not busy? And it clearly wasn't. We came at 4-5pm and luckily we beat the line. But the employee was quite disappointing where he wasn't able to tend to our needs. I asked for our food to go and he hands us 1 box... when we ordered 2 soups.. Aggravated. We paid for our food $38.40... and I had mentioned again that it would have been better to move us to a different table since another person was coughing... Never going back. read more

Warning! Right now is their soft opening so hours are actually 12AM-3PM and 6PM -9PM, not 11 AM. Even though I came here around 11:40 AM, there were already 28 groups ahead of us! We ended up going in an hour and a half later. When they open, they take down your name and give you a ticket so you can walk around the plaza while you wait or get some boba. One tip I would like to add is to say the group's # out loud also, so we have an idea of which group you are on. FOOD: Food was good. Main complaint is that the pot was mostly veggies and not enough meat or food items. Especially if the prices in Norcal are higher than Socal, don't be skimpy on the meat! I have only been to the Socal location once so I can't really compare tastes, but the broth was good. I really enjoyed all of their dipping sauces, especially the spicy one. Boiling Point is good, but not worth the 2-3 hour wait. I might be back once the wait time dies down. read more

I knew it was going to be a long wait after reading all the reviews on this place. But I decided what the heck 1hr ain't too bad. Waited nearly 2 n a half! Well that being said I wanted to see what the hype was all about. Once seated my girlfriend ordered her seafood combo and I was still debating on Thai combo. At the last minute I asked our server Aaron I believe to change my order to the beef one instead. He quickly ran and was so easy going to change it. He also was very attentive to my girlfriend and I request and made sure our service was on point. The food was very flavorful and did leave a great impression. If I were to change something it would be the ticket system they have in begging because that wait time was outrageous. But I'll give it a shot again when it dies down again. read more
