When the restaurant finally opened, the host brought us to a table for our party of 7. However, before we even had a chance to sit down, another staff member, a lady wearing glasses, came over and told us that the table was "reserved" for another party. She then asked us to wait another 90 minutes, even though the restaurant had just opened. What makes this especially frustrating is that we had previously been told that customers could not call ahead or reserve tables during the promotion period. If reservations were not allowed, then how were certain tables already being held for other parties? It honestly gave us the impression that some tables were being reserved for the staff's friends or family. I sincerely hope that is not the case, but the way this was handled made us feel that loyal customers were being treated unfairly. This is more akin to a shabu shabu place than a Sichuan hot pot place, and the broths reflect that. I ordered a "best of both worlds" hot pot that had bone broth and spicy broth. But it's just bone broth and bone broth with some chili oil that was super mid and barely spicy. Don't offer a half and half pot if it's basically the same thing, especially when I can just add sauces from the sauce bar into the broth for the same result! I'll give it to them - the bone broth was good when it came in fresh, but slowly turned undrinkable due to the amount of crud coming from the meat. The meat quality looks pretty good on presentation, and tastes decent. Be careful to not overcook, or they will become dry and not very good (ask me how I know). The sauce bar was disappointing though. The sesame paste was super watered down and had lower than expected viscosity. The garlic was in water, which make my sauce even more watered down. Although the sauce bar here is the same as to other hot pot places, the quality control is definitely lower. They did have some snacks, like chicken wings and fried dough. Happy Lamb Hot Pot is well, a hot pot place that serves as a reminder as to why AYCE is usually not better than pay per plate hot pot. The broth was disappointing and the selection of little snacks lags so much behind other pay per dish hot pot places, to a point I was wondering why I didn't see any chinese speaking chinese people.
