I haven't been to Lazy Dog for a while. This is known to be a popular spot to go to for dining especially during nights. Probably because of how dark the place is which fits an atmosphere of socializing people at a much darker setting. They also have a patio too, but it's basically covered probably because of how humid the weather is right now, but today it's much cooler now. Also, this is in Newark close to Newpark Mall, but it's quite strange how it's sitting next to quieter businesses. I don't want to eat too heavy today. So I decided to look at their Light Calories menu or whatever it's called. It's good that they display the number of calories and proteins in grams so we know how much we're consuming. I decided to get a Protein Crunch with Chicken since it's a much lighter option compared to steak and salmon. Really love the greens as well as the tomatoes, roasted chickpeas I believe, and eggs. The chicken is rightfully grilled and I like the dressing too. About service, they do take a little longer than expected especially when there's not a lot of people. Luckily when I arrived, there wasn't a line, but suddenly there is as soon as I left the restaurant. I highly recommend coming to this restaurant around noon if you can. Nights will most likely be packed due to how the restaurant is designed. May need to go around to look for a parking spot. read more

On my last night got caught up with work and was looking for a place open past 9pm for dinner. I remember some locals talking about this place so decided to get dinner here. Decided to sit at bar since I was a party of one but all the seats were dirty. Sat anyway. Waited. Bartender was chatting up other customers. No acknowledgement. So I went to the hostess stand and decided to get a booth for one. My waitress was attentive. Got the bison burger medium but with blue cheese, tomato and extra lettuce. Also got a side Caesar salad. That was a GREAT burger!!! They cooked it perfectly. I had no intention of finishing it but oops! The salad was also really good. Definitely will return. Since I've been in BJ's in many different location and I liked them, especially for the special menu week days, but I've never been in Lazy Dog, so my family took me here. This one is in a big shopping center so there are many parking spaces to choose from. Walked into the front where the AC was on nice and cold on a hot day, but my family came out from the side and called us in, this is an extended area for people with pets, mostly dogs, I wasn't happy at all sitting around all these nice dogs, but they got the table and I didn't want to impose LOL. Appetizer was lettuce wrap, very little portion and not very tasty as many other ones (Elephant Bar, RIP, PF Chang), anyhow, I didn't expect it to be great. Everyone ordered burgers and I ordered Roast Beef Dip with Onion Rings. The roast beef was good, and the onion rings are crispy, very nice. The prices are reasonable, but I didn't get to pay. Anyhow, it's good to see what's the difference between these 2 American restaurants BJ's and Lazy Dog right across from Mowry Ave in Newark. For me, I prefer BJ's. This was my first time eating at this particular lazy dog restaurant and I was glad they were open late!! I'm currently moving so to cook at home is a little complicated and after moving a bunch of things from my old house I just wanted something hot and easy to get! Hee I was surprised they did this deal where you could pick three appetizers for $25. Such a great set up especially if you want to have a "girl dinner "this particular night I got the chicken falafel and considering it's a lazy dog it actually tasted pretty decent. Lol. Enjoyed the paws on the patio event that they hosted! My dog was able to enjoy one free meal and gobbled up his grilled burger and brown rice bowl. Went here yesterday with my friend for dinner at 6:15. Had no problem getting seated immediately inside with my service dog. The place was busy also. Our waiter was very attentive the whole time. Came in with a group of friends before catching the new SpiderMan movie and we were all looking forward to just meeting up after not seeing each other for a while. In truth, the experience was underwhelming. We grabbed appetizers, drinks, entrees, dessert, the whole 10 yards and it felt like we weren't appreciated. Bianca was our server and instantly upon greeting it felt like she was irritated with us. When we checked in for our reservation and were told that we were her first table of the night so it'd be a moment, we happily waited to be seated. But once Bianca came to our table it felt like she was annoyed that she had a 5 top as soon as her shift started. It just wasn't a warm welcoming, felt very forced. And it further solidified our feelings when she forgot to bring out one of our entrees, didn't check to see if we had a dessert menu after we told her we were going to order dessert, and disrespectfully only ID'd 1 of the 2 ladies at the table. Mind you we're all in our 20's. We could tell that her attention wasn't on our table at all, just put a sour taste in our mouth. Our server definitely affected our night; but besides that the food that we did order was pretty tasteful, no complaints there. Had a fantastic time catching up with a friend here. The Impossible Burger was great -- definitely a great option if you're looking for a plant-based meal (uhh probably only me). The Seating: We got a nice booth. The seating area is comfortable, spacious, and arranged well enough that you can actually hold a conversation with a friend and relax. I recently revisited this restaurant after previously leaving a 5-star review based on a positive experience with a server named Bianca. However, my more recent visit was disappointing and changed my impression. We had a $10 off $40 coupon we had received on a prior visit, which we didn't realize was expired. Our server said she'd honor the coupon if we left a review and asked multiple times if had left a review with her name. We also overheard the same server asking another table to leave a review during their meal in exchange for a discount. Our service on this visit was poor overall and the host stand was not particularly welcoming so I didn't appreciate her pressuring us to leave a positive review over a expired coupon when she could have said it didn't work as we didn't know it had expired. We were trying to be polite and nice but the whole interaction was disingenuous on her end. Regardless of individual staff, the experience felt inappropriate given the emphasis on reviews during service. Based on this visit, I would not return or recommend the restaurant, which is unfortunate because I was a regular. Hopefully management can allow for more organic and genuine reviews instead of positive reviews in exchange for discounts. read more

Recently I had a chance to FINALLY try a Lazy Dog Restaurant (locations all over...Las Vegas, Oxnard, Rancho Cucamonga and many more) for an attended business get-together. The Newpark Mall location has plenty of parking and is easy to find. We arrived after 4:30pm...right on time for Happy Hour (good time to go...better prices) and were seated promptly at a table in front of a very large stone fireplace. The interior was expansive and the decor had a "clean western" style look to it. Not a huge crowd...as we left though, it did start to fill up. Menus were presented and our order was taken within a reasonable timeframe....but the "lag time" between ordering and actual food on the table, was disturbing. Several people at our table were "wondering" and when ya begin to "wonder" something isn't right (if you know what I mean). Okay now...my dear Yelp Review Readers, the following was my order: for Appetizers we had... (Shared) - Bacon Candy (Bacon baked with brown sugar, crushed red pepper chili flakes, black pepper) 5/5...if you're a bacon "lover" this should make you "swoon" and is a must try! (Also shared) - Crispy Deviled Eggs (Lightly fried, topped with smoked paprika + bacon candy) 5/5...just plain yummy! For my Main...a Bison Burger (All-natural durham ranch grass-raised Wyoming bison + wagyu beef, havarti, caramelized onion + bacon jam, tomatoes and mayo) 5/5...the caramelized onions and bacon jam "made" this burger outstanding! The burger also came with a Caesar "style" Salad 3/5 ...this was nothing to rave about but was fine. And a side of Pickled Cucumbers 3/5...expected "something more favorable"...so again, nothing to rave about. For Dessert...Campfire Cookies (Housemade cookies with white + milk chocolate chips, caramel, pretzels and sea salt, served warm) 3/5...nothing wrong with the cookies, but I wasn't dazzled by these (especially with a $7+ price tag for 4 cookies). The overall dining experience was a "mixed bag" for me...although, it wasn't worse than being "average". The ambience was good...food service was slow...some of the offerings were really very good, others were completely average. On this occasion, in this Yelper's opinion the Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar at the Newpark Mall in Newark earned this "average...something's are hot but others are not" 3 Star review. read more

Such a great dining experience at Lazy Dog Restaurant tonight. We sat with our dog on the patio, and they brought out a water bowl for him. Service was consistently friendly. We enjoyed the vibe on the spacious patio, with a fire pit in the middle and comfy seating. I could not stop eating the candy bacon; it's insanely delicious... and the lettuce wraps were equally as yummy. My girlfriend kept raving about the soups too. Since their departure, the food space that Claim Jumper occupied in Fremont has been aptly replaced by Lazy Dog in nearby Newark. My little family tried the place upon their opening, but we were unimpressed. Fortunately, they have improved their business model and are well focused on the food and ambiance now. Now, having return several times, I would say Lazy Dog has cemented its place in this area as one of the best family-style restaurants. Today, my little family is back for dinner. The bar area is alive with FIFA fans, but the rest of the location is still easily serving its dinner crowd. Our server, Sofia (yes, with an F), cheerfully and professionally provided us with excellent service. The inside is big, it feels homie with a fireplace, along with log like decor around the floor. It gives sorta like a Texas style vibe to us and we love it. We sat down after being directed to a table and here's what we ordered: BBQ Bison Meatloaf (5 / 5) The meatloaf came out perfectly with mash potatoes underneath and spinach. It was mixed in with the perfect amount of BBQ sauce that's not over powering with hints of gravy. This doesn't get you sick of the dish quickly like other overly sweet BBQ sauce which was pivotal to this dish. The haystack onions on top is a nice touch to finish. Steak + Veggie Kebabs (4 / 5) This dish, although not completely identical to ones you would be able to get in a Middle Eastern restaurant; The taste was extremely close. I'm always a fan when the chef studies dishes of other culture instead of whipping up something they "think" tastes similar. They have the typical white yogurt sauce and tzatziki sauce on the side which compliments this dish well. Kid's chicken teriyaki & steamed rice with broccoli (5 / 5) My son loved it. When I tasted the chicken, I would say it's a hybrid of orange chicken with Kung Pao chicken sauce? It's a little out of the ordinary but it didn't taste bad though. It was pretty good surprisingly and my son ate the whole thing. Kudos to the restaurant in having healthy options for the kids! Apple-Huckleberry Open Face Pie (5 / 5) When you see a title like this as a desert, don't you wanna try it? Well, I sure did. The pie portion is made up of bread sticks that are mixed in with cut up apple. It is mixed in with maple syrup and cinnamon evenly with a topping of a nice large scoop of vanilla ice cream. It was nothing like I envisioned it to be. With how the maple syrup and cinnamon was placed in the dish I couldn't help myself but keep eating it one bite after another. My wife and I finished it while we were full, yea, this desert's a winner. Lazy Dog is a sleeper if you haven't tried it. I rarely like every dish that's ordered in a restaurant, but I genuinely liked everything. Friend moved to Milpitas, so now we needed a place halfway between there and Hayward. Lazy Dog was exactly that point. Although I didn't pick it just for the location, but also for their kick ass happy hour menu. I also like that it's right off the freeway exit. So let's see, convenient location, great menu with can't be beat pricing , amazing service, and ample seating for groups large and small. Plus the great big fire pit in the patio that's perfect for cold evenings. And now the food: very rarely will I take a star away from a place as decent as this. But here are the reasons, the tikka masala meatballs were sour, the Cajun fries were killed by an unholy amount of lemon seasoning , and the chicken in the lettuce wrap dish was dry. The good points: the all American burger was great, the happy hour mango and hibiscus margaritas were both good stuff , and our server Bianca was lovely. I feel this place is doing a great job of providing weekday value with their happy hour specials. I'd love to see them maybe tweak a few dishes so that it's an all round 5 star experience. read more

They have a big covered area or you can sit uncovered in a smaller area. We ordered the white ale and hazy ipa. White ale isn't bad. But hazy ipa wasn't like a typical hazy that we like. Very light and doesn't look hazy at all. My white ale was hazier. For food, we got the Tikka Masala Meatballs, onion rings, Crispy Deviled Eggs, Brussels Sprouts. Everything was good except the Brussels Sprouts. Too soft and sour. Our waitress was quick and attentive. This review is for the take out experience It's hit or miss all around. When you drive up definitely call and hope they get out to you within 10 minutes. I've once walked in and nobody was working the front but I could see my food had been sitting there. I usually just order the Caesar chicken salad and fries. Sometimes the chicken is overcooked and my fries are cold. Other times its great. We had a great experience at Lazy Dog. Every food recommendation we tried was solid. We tried the hot honey feta dip and it was so good and definitely a standout. The sea bass was perfectly moist and honestly better than what we've had at restaurants that charge double the price. All of our burgers were cooked exactly how my family likes them, medium, which we really appreciated. Maliah was our server and she was an absolute delight. Always smiling, incredibly patient, and she delivered excellent customer service. When she overheard that our diet soda was flat (wasn't intending to tell her), she immediately took care of it without any hesitation or annoyance. She also recommended the brownie dessert, which was amazing. The Newark location is a lot better than their Cupertino one in terms of service with employees that are more attentive and friendly. The women's bathroom was pristine with no garbage on the floors. Overall, a wonderful experience and we will definitely be back. read more

Food is way too overpriced and smaller portions. Our meal was not even hot, waiter admitted that food tends to sit until someone picks it up. Was not offered any refills in drinks. Our waiter was nowhere to be found so we had to track some other waiter for our tab. The meal did taste good other than it being warm. They where not even real busy either so no excuse. Located really close to the freeway and Newpark Mall. They have a huge parking area and also plenty of supercharger spots for tesla drivers. We have gone here a couple times and my experience is always great. Staff is attentive and the menu is vast. I've had brunch here and lunch. I have tried a couple things in the menu I don't remember really hating anything. Overall it's a good restaurant "catch-all" if you can't decide what cuisine to have, and a cool place to hangout and have drinks while you eat. read more
