This review is based on service. Sat at 12:35 pm. We only saw 2 staffs running around (I could see they tried their best). We waited for the table 35 mins+ food about 35 mins. So basically about 2 hrs+ in total. The food should have come out soon enough considering the type of food (hotpot : soup base / meat -veggie selection) or not much more besides any appetizers. I think they tried to use their silly robot for carrying the food (and it ran at slowest speed lol). They should have just carried the food out or use manual cart how they used to do. The restaurant was busy but the flow wasn't out of ordinary, which could have been managed better. We ended up asking for our food. Well, as soon as we asked, they brought them out within minute as if they were sitting out there and waiting to be served. Rice was cold and our appetizers were cold. No one greeted us when we checked in; and the server was impatient when taking our order. We have called the server a few times to refill our soup and water. This has to be one of the worst experience by far at this location. I hardly ever want to write any bad reviews but this time, I had too. We got seated around 6:50pm and ordered right away because we knew exactly what we wanted and because we were starving. The two ladies that just sat down next to us and waited to order got their order before us. I'm a very patient person. 30-40-50 mins passed by, 5 staffed were asked to check on our soup later and not one person could tell us what was going on. No one checked in on us, not one person cared that two ppl had been sitting at an empty table for an hr!!! This is ridiculous. We sat right next to the kitchen door so there's no way they didn't see us. Trust me, I also work in the food industry for many yrs and never have I ever seen any kind of customer service like this. After grabbing 5 different staff about our food, no one still didn't follow up on us or apologized to us. The only thing on our table was the bowl of rice that came with the order. I put my finger in my rice and even played around with the rice bowl and said that my rice was cold. Literally an hr after being seated , our soup comes out so I told the server I would like a new bowl of rice because my rice has been sitting for an hr and it's cold. He quickly took my rice away and gave me a nice hot steamy bowl of rice. About 20 mins later I asked for another rice. OK, I can't even make this up. The server brought me the same rice I returned earlier!!!!!! Can you believe it???? I didn't want to believe it at all!!!! I know how I left the rice because I touched it with my hand and moved the rice. The rice was also cold. Omgahhhh. That's disgusting. All I have to say is, I enjoyed my food. Customer service needs a lot of work. Not one person checked on us, apologized , refilled our water, or our soup. I had to chase two staff down just to ask for my check. I will not be back here. I've never been so disappointed before. Coming from SGV, I was excited to see that a boiling point was in Irvine! I ordered my go to which was the beef hotpot and it was slightly disappointing. Maybe it's because I'm used to the quality of SGV but I felt that the broth was bland (not salty enough) and the amount of food seemed less that what I would usually get. Nonetheless, it still hit my fix without needing to drive an hour to San Gabriel! The waiters were very friendly and service was quick! Awesome experience. I love this location. The service here is the best service I've ever had at any BP and the food is solid. I usually go to Boiling Points in San Gabriel. One thing that's true about every BP I've gone to: The service is sloooow. If you want service, more napkins, the check, etc, it takes forever at other locations. At this location, the service is lightning fast. It probably has to do with the layout, because it's a huge corridor of patrons and that's easier to attend to. 10/10 would recommend. If I had to ding them on anything, it's the rice. I came here twice in a weekend and the rice was subpar both times (once for lunch, once for dinner). Their rice cooking machine makes rice that I'd rate 7/10, instead of the usual easy 10/10. The rice doesn't come out fluffy and delicious, it comes out as a bit stale or hard. It's still good and I still annihilated it, but it's something I'd point out. Just get vermicelli at this location. I love BP and I thought my meals here were amazing. We always get the only Vegan hot pot they have the Tofu and Mushroom hot pot. It's got lots of Tofu, veggies and variety of mushrooms. We got there 30 min before opening last Sunday and there were already 4 families ahead of us, crazy. There is a good amount of ingredients in the pot, but if you are really hungry I would suggest either adding on an item or getting one of the large sizes on the menu! The prices are ok for what you are getting, but some people I ate with did not receive the same amount of meat as I did so they were less satisfied. The last time I went to Boiling Point, I was disappointed with empty, dirty sauces at the table. However, this time it was great! The sauces were clean and labeled, and there was enough of each sauce for our table. Overall, the service was great and we were given water and broth refills when needed. I appreciate the small lemon jelly packets given after our meal with our check! Once seated we were offered complimentary iced green or black tea (lunch time only!) and an extensive menu listing their hot pot options. With over 10 signature pots I ended up settling on the Mushroom Veggie, which included tofu, zucchini, tomato, and a variety of mushrooms. Plus, I added a side order of pork! Boiling Point also offers a platter of seasonings and sauces for you to customize the flavor of your dish. The garlic sauce was by far my favorite! Friends and I wanted to get Boiling Point to celebrate a birthday and after reading so many 1 star reviews I was a bit iffy on going but still went since I love BP! We got there at 6:30pm on a Saturday night and oh god parking is a huge nightmare. It's really hard to find parking at peak dinner hours if you want close parking. If you don't mind walking a bit far, maybe try parking near where the Mitsuwa is - we had success finding parking there. HOWEVER, WE DID NOT EVEN GET TO EAT HERE! I've been to other BP locations before and have never been turned away even when it's busy. That's just absurd. We had a great experience. The spicy miso is my favorite. And my servers were all friendly and attentive, especially Ian and Martin.

I always forget how much I like Boiling Point until I have it.. My order is the Taiwanese Spicy with rice. The Taiwanese Spicy only comes in their flaming hot spice level and to be honest, it's not that spicy for me and I would be happy if it was even spicier to match it's max spice level that it advertises. However as everyone's spice tolerance is different, I'm sure this is pretty spicy to others. Usually if I get my own, which I generally do cause I go with people who like different flavors, I'd have to togo the rest of my meal because it is a lot and I can't finish the full thing. I also just love togo-ing soups because then I can use the broth at home and make another meal from it and it's still so good and flavorful LOL my husband and I went recently and shared the Taiwanese Spicy and just ordered an extra rice for each of us to have a bowl. It worked out perfectly cause I don't finish my rice and so then he ended up getting bowl and a half to really have for his meal. We love all their garlic sauces, which isn't even that garlicy but we're big sauce people so we literally make a whole mixture and dip everything in it. My husband even mixes the sauces into his rice beforehand with every bite lol! Even with us two sharing the Taiwanese Spicy with a one time refill of broth, we were still able to togo the rest of our meal and have a full togo container full of leftovers. If you come in before 3pm, you get a free iced green tea with your meal which is super nice to have because their teas are so refreshing and perfectly sweetened. I actually like to save the tea and enjoy my meal with iced water, then have the tea after my meal. Service here is always great, everyone's very attentive and friendly. Super fast with requests - water refills, broth refills, sauce refills in the containers, extra napkins, etc. I also love the little jelly packet at the end, soooo citrusy and just the perfect end to the meal. read more

This location is the closest boiling point nearby and it is usually packed all the time. The wait can be up to 2 hours during peak time or they may close off the waitlist at a specific time. I usually order take out from here since the wait is super long. I decided to come here on a weekday around 11am and got seated within 20 minutes or so. I ordered the beef hot soup (no spice) with rice and the green tea. The food was pretty good especially with the sauces they offer for the hot pot. I've been to this place numerous times hoping for a good hotpot meal, and it's always been a disappointment. Their hotpots are below average at best. I usually get the house special or the milk cream curry. The broth is ok, but they always fill up the pot with a bunch of vegetables and a tiny serving of meat. The quality of the meats aren't good either, and the side of rice they serve is always dry. At $15-25 a pot, it's not cheap, and I expect better quality and meat portions. The spice levels are also wildly inconsistent. I always get medium spice and sometimes it tastes like a mild; other times it feels like they messed up the order and gave me the spiciest one. Service is mediocre at best. Most of the time they take your order and never come back to check on you, and I always have to wave someone down. On my last trip we asked the waiters to keep a cake in the back since it was someone's birthday, and to bring it out later. After we ate, we decided to celebrate elsewhere so we asked for the cake back and no one had any idea where it was. We thought they lost it, and it took the staff 15 minutes to find it. This place is extremely popular with UCI students, and I don't know why. The hotpots are mediocre, the portions are small, and the service is not there. There are other places in OC that are far superior. read more

I first tried boiling point several years ago at the Arcadia location. I love shabu shabu, so I decided to try this hot pot joint with my friend that talked so much about it. I got the #4 beef and it's something I always get and crave. I've tried the other ones from my brother, bf or friend and the beef is still my fav. I do want to try the new miso tonkatsu, though! They always have a long wait and they don't take reservations. Best time to go is right when they open. Why?? No wait, price is a dollar less or so and you get free black or green tea! 5 stars because they also take to go orders and everything is on point. You get all the utensils you need and sauces. Extra broth is $2.50 (free refills at the restaurant) which is well worth it! The to go order is the best option when there is a long wait. read more

Delicious place to eat and i will definitely be coming back. I thought the whole meal was really well balanced and it will definitely clear your sinuses if you're looking for a nice mild/spicy dish. I opted for the gravy, scallions rice instead of noodles and that was a good call because that went really well soaking up all the rich flavors from the broth. The lamb meat was really flavorful, nothing overly salty and the egg was a good touch. I like how it came with black or green tea and thought the sweetness from that paired really well with the savory flavors of the dish. I surprisingly liked this place! It's Taiwanese style hot pot and not the traditional Japanese Shabu Shabu. You don't cook your own meat but rather they put everything in one pot and put it in front of you already cooked. They then light a fire so that your food remains hot while you eat! They even refill more soup if you need/want it. I got the beef with the quail egg add-on and it was so delicious! The soup was super yummy and I didn't even need their additional dipping sauces. If you aren't a big eater, you probably will have leftovers but if you are hungry and/or love this stuff, you'll probably finish your pot of goodness. Parking in this plaza sucks. The wait for this place also sucks because it is so popular and there is always a wait- even during the mid-afternoon time. I highly recommend! read more

I'm a bit conflicted about this place. On one hand, I love the hot pot they serve here (the beef bowl specifically). On the other hand, the service is not too great and there were two occasions we found things inside the soup that - while possibly adding additional protein - isn't really meant to be there. Service - at least in terms of takeout: Not the friendliest staff, but it does not bother me as I'm just running in and getting food. The problem is they missed adding the vermicelli noodles on several occasions, and utensils in others. Not a big deal, but it starts to be an annoying trend. It just shows sloppiness in their prep. I don't appreciate the raised eyebrow when I do not tip for takeout. I mean, first it's takeout and there are no customizations to my orders. Second, you keep forgetting my stuff. Don't expect a tip. Stuff inside the soup: We found a dead insect in the soup once while dining in and pointed it out to the staff. Instead of offering a refund, they just gave us another soup - but we didn't want to eat anymore that day so no additional soup is going to fix our confidence level at that time that there's no dead mosquito (or some type of flying insect) buried in there. Thankfully we haven't seen another since, but I did not appreciate their approach to addressing the situation. Another time we found 2 pieces of hair in the soup that we took home. We complained and they gave us a $5 credit (lol). So why do I come back here? The broth is pretty good, but hey, approach this place with some reservation on cleanliness and don't be surprised if you find anything in there that shouldn't be in there. Or maybe keep a closer eye on your food. Will I come back? Maybe once in awhile since there isn't a comparable spot that I like in Irvine.
