Ever since my favorite spot in Atlanta closed down in 2016 (R.I.P TopFlr), I have had a pizza shaped hole in my heart...a pizza shaped hole that Bold Monk has stepped up and filled for me. Now I know what you are thinking...how is this guy starting a review about a brewery off talking about pizza?! Well, for good reason, believe me! Bold Monk has only been filling cups and bellies in Atlanta for a couple of years, but the comfort I get from being at this place makes me feel like I have been swinging through for the last 20 years! It feels like an Atlanta staple as the vibe is right, the décor is chic, grandiose and industrial, while the cocktails are creative and expertly mixed along, the beer is cold and local, and of course the food is insanely delicious...all that combined with a stellar location in West Midtown makes Bold Monk my absolute favorite spot in the city whether it be for a simple drink, date night, celebration or dinner with friends/family. This place is massive, as if you couldn't tell from the moment you pulled up. It not only features indoor space, but also a fantastic outdoor seating area. Given the size, they have adequately mapped out parking, which is plentiful and available on the street in front, in dedicated parking lot spots directly in front of the building or in the private lot behind the place. When you walk into the corridor you are greeted by several tables and seating spaces that are used for restaurant seating, so technically you have three options for spaces to be sat in with inside, outdoor garden or outdoor corridor. I have enjoyed dinner and drinks in each space and based on the weather, I will say that the outdoor garden/patio space is by far my favorite! When you think of a brewery or brew pub that is located in an industrial park, you think big open space with barrels, a lot of wood and steel, a bar and some bar stools with TV lined walls...well, not here! They took their time with Bold Monk and it is less brewpub and more legitimate restaurant that happens to brew beer on site. It is a stunning space, every inch of this place was meticulously mapped out and it shows! When you enter, you are on the main floor that features the bar and several tables, one could consider this space to be the tasting room. On the other side of the bar is the staircase that takes you upstairs to the large dining space that also features a lot of book shelves...this space is brighter and gives off more of a chill/study vibe. Down below this is another dining space that shares its area with the kitchen. This is the darkest space in the place and is almost cavernous with the stone walls, dim lighting and dark booths. It is a pretty cool space to dine in honestly though, it is my second fav space after outside! Now, this outside space...they got picnic tables and a cool elevated fire pit-esk space pushed into the woods, sitting under the lights draped back and forth and tucked under the large trees. It simply a gorgeous space! Now, I started my review out with pizza and the 1838 is the reason why. My favorite pie at the aforementioned TopFlr was the duck confit pizza, which was a creative, sultry, decadent and delicious pizza...while the 1838 isn't exactly on the same level as duck confit, the combination of cremini and Portobello mushrooms atop creamy mozzarella and truffle ricotta is an an amazing experience that yields deliciousness in every bite! I have deviated a time or two and each time, I am sad that I did not get my 1838. On the flipside, one thing I never deviate from is the brusselsprouts. Those are ALWAYS on our table at the start of each visit! A few other things I have sampled from the menu is the Ham and Cheese Sandwich and the Brisket Poutine. The Brisket Poutine was one that I had been eyeing for months and when I finally broke down and got it, I was quite disappointed. The ratio of brisket to the fries to sauce was way off, and the brisket was a little dry for my liking. I can say I have had it now and most importantly it shows me I should just stick with my pizza from now on! If we ain't eating, then we are definitely drinking and with that we have sampled a few of their house cocktails along with a few beers. A few notable likes on the cocktail menu were the Sanctuary Within and As Above, Not Below. While on the beer side of things, the Walk on Water Witbier is hands down my favorite in house! Overall, I said a lot about Bold Monk and I am sure I still have a lot more I could say, but I must get back to dreaming about the 1838. We finally got a chance to try this place in person, and loved sitting outside at one of their tables in the wide hallway leading into the brewery. It was a great night to be outside, and they were super accommodating with our dog, who tagged along. We shared an Abbey Flight, which was a great way to try all their signature beer (loved all, but especially the Way Tripel - omg so good and smooth). Then we split the Provencal mussels, the 1862 pizza, fries and a salad. The chorizo on the pizza is legit spicy - beware... and it's delicious. Loved the mussels and fries. I'm not really impressed with Bold Monk Brewing, and I'm disappointed that it didn't live up to positive reviews on Yelp. I came here on a Friday night as a party of 9 for a going away shindig, and I had a great time with my fiancé and friends because we're not awkward human beings, but our choice of venue for our "last hoorah" in the A kept getting worse and never really got better. We made reservations about a week in advance, and although it's not necessary, I would recommend doing so if you decide to venture out here on the weekend because it progressively got busier as the evening went on, and the "patio" seating is open for those casually strolling the area to sit in, which I find kind of strange. There are about 4 large tables outdoors. Indoor dining area is fairly large with an upper level with its own bar (so 2 bars total.) I didn't get to check out much of the upper level as there was a private event going on. Service was so slow. Slower than molasses on a cold day. A couple of my friends ordered food items that never came. Not sure what's going on with their food distribution management, but they need to get it together because some people need sustenance, or they pass out, die, or worse...get hangry. Our waitress was sweet though, and I'm sure she was trying. There was a point where we couldn't order any beer flights because there "weren't enough flight cups" which I found disturbing for a brewery. There was also an extremely long wait for cocktails, and I get it--it's a brewery, but cocktails aren't rocket science, and waiting 40+ minutes in between drinks is a bit of a buzz kill especially after not getting the food you've ordered. The best part was the dog friendly outdoor seating and free parking--there's a small lot in front of the brewery if you're lucky, but there's also free street parking available. I'll start with the amazing elements of my experience: *the bartender: I wish I'd gotten his name...he was real friendly, took time to give recommendations and explain everything we asked about *the burger: this one of the 5 best burgers I've had in the Atlanta area. I asked for it medium rare, and it came out medium rare, and was wonderfully covered in melty cheese with a delightfully soft bun...do not skip the burger *the brussels sprouts: big, beautifully crispy and cooked with bacon, these really hit the spot on the way to the main course *the beer: if you like Belgian beers, this is absolutely the spot for you...they had a doppel, tripel, and quad that we got in a flight, and each had a traditional taste and body *the fries: the frites tasted so wonderful...although they weren't traditional Belgian fries (they're quite a bit thinner), they had a nice crunch to them and were fluffy in the middle Now that the good is out of the way, I must comment on the atrocious front of house service and table management. There was a long line of people checking in, and without reservations, they told us at first that the wait would be 30 minutes. Not too bad! However, a different woman swapped out with the older, shorter one, and when we checked in after about 20 minutes, this woman told us it would be another hour before we were seated. Only after another 15 minutes or so did this younger woman come around to our party and a few others and let us know we could order beer from the bar and drink it in the waiting area (good information, but offered well too late). I finally decided to check the bar area again and saw that there were four seats in a row, so we rushed in to grab them. All the while, there were 3 tables that must have been reserved but were not taken until about 20 minutes after we had been seated. I love that they take reservations, but it seemed to be a waste of space and a missed opportunity for flipping parties. I absolutely love the food and drink here, but will not come back without a reservation. As good as the food, atmosphere and brews are, it's not worth what's waiting on you in the parking lot. Several cars broken into in the middle of the day! Despite security cameras and a security guard that obviously takes breaks all day because he didn't show up until almost an hour after 911 was called. It's also located in the part of the city that apparently takes over 4 hours and counting for police to show up (happened around 7:30p, police arrived at midnight). If you don't Uber over here or get dropped off, don't waste your time stopping by unless you want to pay for your tab and new windows. They are slightly fried, tossed with caramelized onions and bacon! They are just plain delicious. Also try the monk and lamb burgers. I've tried the shrimp mussels and that dish was just ok. I should have had the chorizo one instead. The inside dining place is large with a downstairs and upstairs space. They can also seat you in the alley way by the front door. Dog friendly (outdoor patio only) brewery that offers a pretty impressive variety of food! Atmosphere: the outdoor patio is covered which is good when it's hot so you're in the shade but not so good when it's cold and you need the sun to keep warm. Luckily they have portable heaters for that (tip: be by the ones that are basically propane tanks, the manager said they keep you much warmer than the tall standing ones!). The inside is super cute with a downstairs and an upstairs that features a bookstore! Great industrial vibes, wouldn't mind sitting on the couch upstairs with a beer in hand and a nice book. Food/price: food is a bit pricey but kind of expected. they offer appetizers such brussel sprouts, pizzas, entrees like shrimp and grits, burgers, sandwiches, sides, wines, and of course beer. - brisket poutine: low key was disappointed especially as a fan of poutine. The brisket (was it rly brisket?) was very over cooked, chewy and a bit hard. The fries were good, the gravy was underwhelming. I don't know I expected more flavor - French dip sandwich: very good. The meat was tender and juicy, the dip was also really good. It comes with Belgian frites which is great bc me and my bf were in between on getting just the Belgian frites with a bunch of sauces or the poutine so we at least got to try both. The fries were soooo good. Crispy but not overly fried, and held well. We asked for the curry sauce ($1.00 extra) which I liked a lot with the fries. Totally recommend - they have a good selection of beers. I had the double IPA, very citrusy. Would come back to try more TLDR: sit by the propane gas heaters and not the tall standing ones if you're outside and cold. Get the Belgian frites and try the different sauces. The best thing I can say about this "meal" was the beer and the "food" that I didn't eat. Fried Fish Sandwich...cod fillet (probably frozen) was roughly the width of a credit card, slightly longer and lacking thickness. The brioche bun was dense and overwhelmed the tiny piece of fish. The sandwich was served with some tasteless condiment resembling mayo...was not even a tartar sauce. They advertise "Belgian frites". Seriously? They were standard French fries and lukewarm. Next disaster...the Fried Chicken Sandwich. Similarly disappointing and similarly stingy on the protein. In this case the chicken breast. Overly seasoned and also dominated by a dense brioche bun. Take away. The bun makes the sandwich...the brioche buns at Publix are much lighter. If you have a bad bun you have a bad sandwich. For these prices you should get more than a meager piece of tired protein disguised amongst a lot of dense bread, lettuce, dressing and average French fries. If you're going to serve French fries don't try to sell me "Belgian Frites" to make me think I'm getting something special. A very poor showing. I can do better at home for a third of the price. Super disappointing. I love the decor, the beer is great and the wait staff is welcoming and attentive. The wait staff deserves better from the kitchen. They are trying to make a living. The layout is really cool! Industrial with lots of wood and iron. They've got a lot of space indoors and a cool outdoor area in the trees behind the building. The beers are EXCELLENT (at least the Shared Spirit IPA and Attainment DIPA). Service at the BAR was great. Service at the table .... Awful! Sat for 15 minutes with no server until I got up and returned to the host to ask for a server so we could spend some money with them. . The guy who showed up seemed interested, but checked on us only one time after we ordered. Not good. But the food was good! Fried Chicken Sandwich was tasty -- and spicy -- so we ran out of water quickly and that made it apparent nobody was really there to take care of our table of 4. I would go again....but just order everything at the bar unless you want to sit and wait and then get up to ask for servers and water and another round of beers. read more

The restaurant has a N elevated bar/pub vibe without the big screen TVs (this is a good thing). BELGIAN WAFFLE Traditional Sugar Coating, Served with Warm Beer Fudge or Berries - this was a hit! Since the menu and decor are Belgian inspired, Golden Belgian waffles were the perfect way to cap off dinner. Cocktail Reception recommendations (for vegetarians and without pork) BURRATA ON TOAST With Seasonal Fruit Mostarda - refreshing and vegetarian. Perfect sweet and savory bite! CURRIED CHICKEN SLIDERS Roasted and Pulled Chicken, Apples, Curry Spice, and Duke's Mayo on a Mini Brioche Bun - strangely enough the combination of flavors work! After my husband's team had a work lunch at Bold Monk, he liked it so much that he knew we had to come back together! My January birthday gave us a great excuse to meet for lunch and a celebratory beer in the middle of our workday. The location is just off the beaten path - but the actual space is such a hidden gem. It was chilly the afternoon we went, so we opted for an inside table, but you truly can't go wrong wherever you sit - there is a beer garden, a cute little library room and plenty of tables and booths inside that are trendy yet cozy. Our server was so helpful as we navigated the large selection of beers to choose from, and in the end made sure both my husband and I got something we loved! But don't sleep on the food - we got a pizza and a burger and they were not average bar fare, but truly delicious and well crafted. Topping off the next level service, space and sips, our server overheard us talking about my birthday and brought us a delicious dessert on the house. Bolk Monk Brewing is honestly my new favorite place. I don't even drink and I love this spot. First, the space is massive and beautiful. It's clean. It's well decorated. It's spacious and it's inviting, which I sometimes feel like breweries are not. I think it's the perfectly impressive without being pretentious/beer snobby. The staff deserved their own call out in this review. Our server greeted us with such warmth, I felt like she was an old friend! The team checked on us almost constantly. Our water never was empty, they brought me so many teas that I could barely sleep that night (in the best way), and my friend's beer glass was never empty without someone asking if she wanted another. There was a shift change in the time I was there, and our second server was just as great as the first! Now, I can't review the ber becase again - I don't really drink, BUT the food I can SURE review. We ordered the brussels appetizer. I might have licked the bowl if we weren't in public. These were perfectly crispy with just enough sauce - not too much, not too little. They were spicy and sweet and bacony. I think it is a sign of adulthood when you get this excited about brussel sprouts. I also ordered the kale salad. I am allergic to carrots, so they had to make it without, but I don't think I was missing anything (other than the color for photos). This was the most BeAuTiFuL kale salad (I know, I hate me too) I have ever seeeeeeeeen! It was chopped up and mixed in a peanut dressing. The menu says it is grilled chicken, but it was definitely some sort of pulled chicken and I am not complaining. It was tossed with cabbage and tossed peanuts and it was pure magic. Located in the upper westside of Atlanta, Bold Monk is a new Belgian focused brewery! With ample amount of both parking as well as outdoor seatings, this place is one to check out if youre looking for a great place for drinks or food during covid times. When we got there we didnt know you could make reservations ( recommend reserving a spot if you want to sit outdoors!), but Gus was super nice ( great customer service!) and helped us get a table outdoors and we didnt wait super long! I also really applaud this brewery for having social distance line for waiting to be seated, giving everyone hand sanitizer, wearing masks properly and having QR menus! YAY for a place that cares about covid!!! While theyre known for their beers they also have a wide selection of wines and a few cocktails to browse! I first got the abbey flight which had the White Oak White, Discipline Dubbel, The Way Tripel, Indominus Quadruple all for $10. I really really loved the Discipline Dubbel so i got that again. I really wish i didnt eat beforehand bc all of the food looked incredible but we did get the Brisket Poutine and oof ive had plenty of cheese fries but this takes the cake with the house smoked honey chipotle rubbed beef brisket and wild mushroom gravy. I was afraid this would be a very beer heavy menu, but after several friends recommended it, I decided to give it a try. The location is a bit hidden just off Chattahoochee Industrial Blvd at Ellsworth Industrial Blvd in a repurposed warehouse. This allowed for a large outdoor dining space with plenty of heaters. The staff was well masked and hand sanitizer was required at the host stand. I was pleasantly surprised to see an extensive menu with a lot of great sounding options. I ended up deciding on the 1838 Pizza. This was a really amazing vegetarian dish, elevated by the truffle ricotta base. It was absolutely one of the best pizzas I've had and the portion was enough for two. I cannot wait to go back to try the brunch menu as it had so many amazing sounding options. read more

Love this new brewpub! The space is massive and beautiful. They have both indoor and outdoor (covered) seating. I believe they are also working on a patio in the back for even more seating. The upstairs is stunning and the details are super impressive. Upstairs there is a gorgeous bar, built in book shelves, leather couches, and even a drop down theater screen. The ambiance is really unique and great for everything from intimate dates to large group dinners to private events. They have a solid beer selection, most of which they brew on site. You can even bring home a six pack of their canned beer. Their Midtown Rita (a margarita with elderflower & hibiscus) is definitely worth a try if you don't want beer. They have a nice selection of cocktails and wine as well. The food is top notch (especially for a brewery!) I enjoyed the Green Goddess grain salad with avocado. I believe their menu is constantly changing. My husband loved the Abbot sandwich (pastrami on ciabatta) and the frites (order all of the various dipping sauces!!) Brussels are also tasty - crispy with a bit of spice. The service was phenomenal!! Our waiter was so friendly and patient with our large group. He even put a movie on the screen for us after hearing us talking about it, making our visit extra special. Great hangout spot with good beer and great food! Right now, we're only going to places with outdoor seating, and Bold Monk has an open breezeway area with plenty of tables (they even put together a couple of tables outdoors to seat us) that are sufficiently far apart that a) we didn't feel like we were in spitting range of the next table and b) we could actually hear each other talk! Always a plus, even in non COVID times. Speaking of which, everyone was masked of course and they had hand sanitizer available to use. The reason I say good beer rather than great beer is because I'm not a Belgian beer person (which seems to be the focus of their brewing), so I don't feel like I can comment, but I had their saison which was very solid. As for the food, I was really impressed! Their menu isn't huge, but they have something for everyone, and how many brewpubs have mussels on the menu? Very few that I've seen. We had their Belgian frites to start, with the truffle and smoked tomato sauce, and gosh these fries are bomb. We couldn't stop eating them. And the sauces are awesome. I had the 1850 pizza, which has bacon, brussels, and honey chile sauce, and it was super tasty and very filling. I will say that the crust could be more crisp, as it had difficulty keeping its structural integrity as I was eating. My dinner buddies had the 1899 pizza, the monk burger, and the lamb burger, and they were all pretty pleased as well. I definitely want to come back and try the burgers. And have the fries again... The service here was awesome, very friendly and attentive. Also, this is minutiae but I love the east fork pottery dinnerware they use here. We came here on a Saturday night to meet some friends. Very casual. There's a bar with the college football going on and a dining area that looks like a dungeon. Cool and intimate. I ordered Richard's fried chicken sandwich and my wife had the 1838 which is a portobello ricotta pizza. The food was great. A bit on the pricier side (the brussies were shared with another couple cost $12). Overall, it was a solid meal. I am by no means a beer connoisseur but I did try their Shared Spirit IPA followed by their Father of Four Winds Wet Hop IPA. Would be neat if the servers were well versed in the beer. We didn't get a ton of direction over which one we should try just which beers they don't have. Our server was very friendly and kind overall but there was some room for improvement (sauces, water refills, slow check, the usual). Despite that I would recommend Bold Monk if you are in the upper west side looking for a good meal and great ambiance. Great place to meet friends for sure. read more

Traveled to ATL couple of weeks ago and my brother who is a big beer guy looked up a brewery he wanted to visit and settled on Bold Monk Brewing. Love the spot , the decor and atmosphere are really nice and location is awesome. I loved the beer I got but honestly can't remember the name. I'm a lifter beer kinda guy and the one our server suggested was delicious. Smooth drinking no after taste and ice cold. Reason I am only giving it 4 stars is that 1) the server suggested a beer to my brother and came back with a different one because they were out of his initial suggestion. 2) I honestly thought the winks were terrible. I didn't try any of the food while I was there so I can't speak to that but the beer was good. I tried both of the beer flights so I could get a feel for their ales, IPAs, and Belgian-style Dubbels, Tripels, etc. The ambiance is nice there and their labeling/marketing is a unique mix of European Abbey and modern chic. The beers all have clever names. I enjoyed the "The Way" Tripel the most. Service wasn't bad but it wasn't great. The bartender had a knack for ensuring that she never made eye contact with our party when we were trying to get her attention. It was a slow night, so not sure what that was about. They also called last call at 9:00 PM, although closing time was 10:00 PM. Seemed unnecessary given how few customers there were. I would still definitely come back to this brewery in the future, next time I'm in Atlanta. read more

This place is AMAZING!!! I looooove breweries and this is one of the most beautiful ones I've been too. The food, beer, and environment were awesome! First and foremost, WOW!!! The beer is amazing! The atmosphere is incredible, and very big! When we went we had a hard time finding parking and it's still not crowded in the brewery! We sat at the bar and Ryan was our bartender. I told him I definitely noticed a Belgian theme, and I love Belgian beers. I asked Ryan which was better, the Discipline Dubbel or The Way Tripel. He proceeded to tell me why both of them were so different yet so amazing. I then asked what was his favorite, and he said he really loved Attainment DIPA. He also said he's not a huge IPA fan, but this is delicious with its "Luscious passion fruit, mango, citrus marmalade and notes of coconut from Sabro, Zamba, and Mosaic hops" WHAT!?! I thought Zamba was an exercise!!! You've got to understand, I used to try to get a six pack, until I realized I could afford a keg! Anyway, I tried the deliciousness that is Attainment DIPA is delicious, but when I was done Kortne, another bartender told me her favorite was The Way Tripel. I mean, it's the 2021 U.S. Open GOLD MEDAL AWARD WINNING Belgian Tripel, how can it not be amazing?! Rachel, who stuck with me through my whole FIRST visit said, well, she loves them all, but if you MAKE her pick her favorite she'll pick Attainment DIPA. I had all the bartenders over by me so the very attentive, beautiful manager Bonnita came over to ask me if everything was okay. I told her how awesome her staff was and she was very appreciative. She then proceeded to tell me how they all make her life extremely easy by being such good employees! Wow, I mean WOW!!! I haven't even talked about the food menu!!! Did not eat here tonight, but I promise you I will tomorrow!!! A brewery that has a lamb burger!?! Five different kinds of Mussels!?! Ribs, double cut pork chop, wood-grilled salmon, STEAK!?! If you're in Atlanta and you love beer, do yourself a favor and come to Bold Monk Brewing Co. They'll even tell you the next brewery you should go to, but all the employees told me a DIFFERENT brewery to go to next! read more

Love, love, love this place! Such a beautiful setting, and plenty of spaces to suit your mood. We sat outside and it was lovely. Food was so good! Salmon, burgers, tacos. All delicious! Great staff, relaxed vibe, excellent beer. Next time, we want to hang out in the library a bit more. read more

We loved our time at Bold Monk! We shared fries (with the delicious garlic aioli classic sauce), wings, and a harvest salad. Tried the wheat beer and wish we stayed longer so I could have tried more! We also got an espresso martini which was delicious and much needed before our concert at the Cobb Energy Center. Highly recommend! read more

Great beer selection. I recommend the abbey flight for first timers; it gives you a great sampling. We also tried the wings and fries for a shareable and they were also tasty.
