Bold Monk is a nice yet different style of brewery. I love the ambiance on the inside. Tons of space and an area to hold special events. The service was great and the food was just as amazing. The 1862 pizza was the best pizza I've ever had, spicy and sweet! My ham and cheese combo was disappointing though, it was just way too soft. The flavors were ok, though on the bland side especially the salad dressing. Honestly, It was probably put on the menu for picky eaters lol. The drinks were also strong and well made. My Japanese inspired lager and blue winged angel were balanced with great flavor, not too sweet. We didn't get refills when we needed them according to my party though. I stopped in after hearing that Bold Monk not only has coffee, but that the upstairs area can be a nice area to hang out and get some work done. I stopped in on a weekend and it was buzzing with families dining for brunch. The host said I could go directly to the bar to order my coffee and take it upstairs. The sofa areas were empty, so I settled in with my coffee and turned on my laptop to work for an hour or so. A couple parties decided to come upstairs with their food, but it was quieter upstairs than downstairs. If you want to buy a book, I'm guessing you can take it downstairs to pay for it. Overall, I liked the ambiance with dining service downstairs and an option to head upstairs if tables are full or you want to sit amongst the books. Yes, there are children's books! We arrived on a Saturday afternoon and sat at the bar. We were given a brunch menu which had very little in the way of bar snacks, so we ordered two of their pre-selected flights. Word of caution- if you do the Abbey flight make sure you (1) love Belgian beer and (2) get food! Great Belgian beers and that's their focus. The other styles are okay, but not great. They do have guest taps and are first and foremost a restaurant. Nice outside area. They have a bookstore which we wouldn't loved to visit, but there was a private party set up right in front of it so we didn't feel welcome to browse.... read more

Visit about once a month on my way home from the airport after a work trip as I live north of the perimeter. Great beer here. Happy visiting for years but I do want to share a negative experience today. Enjoyed my beer then sat at the bar for ten minutes with an empty beer glass in front of me. No engagement whatsoever from the bartenders. Too busy socializing to take care of a customer. Spoke with the manager, she handled it well and took care of my beer. I left to enjoy one more beer elsewhere and honestly unsure if I will return. Customer service at a bar is pretty simple. If you see someone possibly wanting another drink you ask. Worst service ever! Every time I return to this place the service gets worse! I haven't been here for over a year and today's experience reminded me why. This was such a cool and fun place when they first opened; however the service is crap! We were seated inside near the kitchen and there were no other customers sitting in the area. Why did it take the server almost 10 minutes to acknowledge our table? She was sitting in a corner table "chilling" and I saw her get up and come over. She came to our table with water and we were polite and gave her our drink order an appetizer order. She left and came back with two small plates for our appetizers and I looked at the plates and they were dirty with food all on them! She probably literally grabbed them from the dirty dish pile. Of course she was nowhere to be found, so I waved down another staff member and showed her the gross plates and she apologized and retrieved two clean plates. Of course, the original waitress was nowhere to be found for about 5 minutes. In the meantime, another waiter comes over and says "sorry for the wait, I'll be your server...." Mind you, this would have been nearly 15 minutes of sitting with no acknowledgment from anyone! We told him someone had taken our drink and appetizer order, so he said he would check in the status. He walked away, and within a minute or two the waitress returns with my drink. About 2 minutes later she comes back with the worst looking greasy, burnt Brussel sprout leaves, ever! I ate a few bites and was not happy and my husband, said "I'm not eating those, they are burnt and greasy" so I flagged down the waitress like a NASCAR flag man and told her that we didn't like the appetizer and to please take it, she said ok, and she said she would remove it from the tab. She left and came back a few minutes later and took our food order, at this point, I was nervous to eat a salad here, so I decided to eat a pizza because I know it's cooked at really high temperature. We both ordered pizza, the crust was good, and the pizza was ok. But within a few minutes of eating another waiter comes by and said he was taking over for Patrice (the worst waitress ever) and we said great and continued eating. We finished our food and drink and i immediately started writing this review. The third waiter was good, but Patrice, you need to do better or find another job. You ruined our experience and I will likely not be returning or recommending this place. Such a shame, because I love the property and the library is an awesome place to chill and hang out. Bold Monk used to be a great spot, but is now relegated to another over-hyped, mediocre at best ATL restaurant that will probably shudder soon if the staff doesn't shape up! They got one star because the last waiter saved the day from Patrice! Oh and BTW Patrice, you forgot to remove the greasy Brussel sprouts from my bill, but Eswin took care of it. Craft Breweries: over the recent decades, they popped up in every obscure warehouse, even in towns that were characterized by Budweiser culture, breaking all established norms and introducing thirsty populations to the art of quality beer. Yet, Bold Monk is different. For starters, there are two separate, huge floors and two outdoor patios here. Thus, this is the goliath of breweries. It is absolutely massive. There is a reading room, there is a sit down tables area, a back room...it is just crazy how much square footage there is here. The design is gorgeous, with many comfortable areas to enjoy a cold one. When I say comfortable, it isn't just those trendy metal chairs that are shoved into most breweries. Here, there are plenty of leather sofas and armchairs to rest. As for the beer, the selection is excellent and diverse. What I mean by that, not every beer is an IPA. The menu is diverse and the beers are spectacular. The service at the bars is always sharp. The one area where Bold Monk needs some work is the food and the waiters. The waiters are very sporadic and generally confused. Often slow and lacking knowledge of beer and food. The food, while edible, is far from amazing and in some cases, a bit disappointing with items like the tough brisket or poorly made pizza crust. If they get these two areas of food and waiter service right, Bold Monk will be perfect, as it is already ways ahead of any other brewery in Atlanta. read more

I came in expecting just a brewery that had food but I didn't realize it was an actual sit-down restaurant! The vibes of the place were great and I loved the space! The entrance was interesting though because their entrance is very grand, it's a set of double doors that doesn't match the environment at all but my friends and I walked right by it because I thought they were a set of fake doors because there weren't any signs or anything saying that this was the entrance to Bold Monk. I got 1899 pizza, super simple it's just pomodoro, mozzarella, and basil. Personally I don't think it should've costed $14 because the ingredients are so simple and I didn't find the sauce to be as flavorful as I would have liked. It was a decent pizza though overall, but more of a $10 pizza I'd say. The music was also great! read more

Huge fan of this place. Free parking. I made a reservation through Open Table, not sure if you need one, but nice that they offer them. The ambiance is nice, but beware it can get kind of loud so I wouldn't recommend for an intimate setting. Their beer menu was pretty vast, ordered the chant lager which was good! For dinner, I ordered the fried chicken sandwich which had a good kick to it, and my partner ordered the Monk burger. The sandwich and fries were DELICIOUS. The service was good. Found this gem while visiting Atlanta! Great theming makes this space unique with antique church/castle decor and mini bookstore upstairs! We had our first visit to Bold Monk today. There were 4 people in my party and we sat outside. There is ample seating both in and out. We ordered a French dip meal that came with fries, 2 orders of mussels, a chicken sandwich meal, 3 cocktails, and a beer. Cost was about $135. The meat on the French dip was very good, but the sandwich came out lukewarm. The mussels were decent. The portion was really good, but the flavor was lacking. They were cooked well, but some must not have been cleaned all the way. Unfortunately, there was a little crunch. We both wished the sauce was a little thicker with more flavor. The fries were very good and we enjoyed a few of the dipping sauces (they cost $1 each for extras). The chicken sandwich had great flavor. Overall. each dish was not super hot. The service was good. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. Our cocktails were decent. The Epiphany was made as described. It wasn't a favorite, but that's probably just preference. We appreciated the uniqueness. Last Judgement was good. The traditional Margarita was good, but one had a good amount of salt and the other barely had any. Normally I wouldn't remark on this detail, but the bill showed $1 for salt on each cocktail. I've never seen a charge for salt before. Overall the space is beautiful and we had a nice experience, but I don't know that it will stick out in my mind as an exceptional place to return to. Came here for lunch yesterday and was blown away by the atmosphere, service, and food. The restaurant is beautiful, with big windows and cozy tables. I ordered the frites (obviously) and had to try all of the sauces. All of them were fantastic, but I really loved the smoked tomato. I also got a harvest salad, and the vinaigrette was really special. Another highlight was their non-alcoholic drink selection (as someone doing dry January). The best part though, was the service. My server, Pam P, was warm and attentive and made some great food suggestions, and the manager, Derek, stopped by to check in, too. Oh wow, a new fave spot! I'm a beer girl. Well, I'm also a champagne girl. And a vodka girl someday. And... well, whatever. I'm a beer girl, lol. So I love nothing more than visiting breweries and checking out new local brews. Lucky for all of us, ATL has some amazing beers and breweries to enjoy. After a productive work day filled with coffee and pastries, I wanted to wind down a bit so I headed over to Bold Monk Brewing after seeing some great Yelp reviews. I didn't know what I was in the mood for but ending the day with a beer never seems to be a bad idea. When I walked up to the doors of Bold Monk Brewing, I was loving the beautiful outdoor space and art! They really thought through the design of this place because my eyes were wide before I even walked through the door. And the door! What a way to make an entrance. The welcoming words upon those beautifully crafted doors really blew me away. And when I opened those doors, I was NOT disappointed. It reminded me of those old taverns I've seen in movies but modern in its own way. (Beyond all of the cute merch that's at the front when you walk in, lol) Truly a gorgeous place! There was a young lady who was seated at the front desk taking calls, but she greeted me kindly and waved over to a young man who came to take me to my seat. Being a party of 1, I appreciated that he gave me the option of bar seating, a 2-top and a 4-top that had a gorgeous view. As a former waitress, I get that giving away those bigger tables can add up, but lucky for me, it was still early and there were a number of seats open. I still opted for the 2-top and ended up being quite comfortable with my laptop and then iPad keeping me entertained. The huge window behind my table looked out onto a cute pathway and wow, what a visual to enjoy. I was lucky to be seated in Lolo's section, what an angel! She was so patient and took the time to help me through my indecisiveness when I was looking at the menu. The menu wasn't overwhelmingly as far as the number of options, but everything looked/sounded good to me!! I'm a big fan of pizza, hot dogs and mussels (so random), and dernit, they had them all! After consulting with Lolo, I decided to go with the Brunswick Mussels. Served with Brunswick shrimp, carrots and shallots in a garlic white wine sauce, topped with two pieces of buttery toasted bread. DELICIOUS. Lolo, sis, I appreciate you for putting me on. This was such a savory, filling dish without making me feel like I needed to be rolled out of there. The portion was extremely generous with pieces of shrimp peeking out from under the Mussels, just excellent. I paired my mussels with the westside flight that included the Chant lage, Congregation IPA, Shared Spirit IPA and Father of the Four Winds. There are two flight options with this one being more focused on IPAs vs. stouts. Such a great choice! The Shared Spirit and Congregation were definitely my favorites and they went nicely with my mussels. Overall a really wonderful experience and I can't wait to go back! read more

Found this place when looking for a different place to spend a Sunday afternoon in Atlanta. This is a huge location that has a beautiful mural that greets you when you walk into the restaurant. We were seated promptly- we chose inside but there were plenty of options for seating areas- all looked cool and like a different vibe. We had a couple of the draft lagers and I had a great crisp beer. The brisket poutine and Brussels were delicious! We couldn't get enough of the poutine it was so savory. The Brussels had great flavor and were tender. No one at the table really enjoyed the mussels. They lacked flavor, were tough and just not appetizing. I stopped by here with a couple of co-workers after a company outing to Top Golf, which is about a block away. The brewery is located a sort of warehouse-turned-restaurant/bar area (or it was built recently to look like an old row of warehouses). Parking is in a lot out front which had plenty of spaces when we visited (on a Tuesday after 6 p.m.). We were just there to sample beers and to let the rush hour traffic die down. The two hostesses who greeted us at the doorway were super-friendly without seeming forced about it. The facility has a number of sub-areas. There is a regular bar area, a sort of causal dining area, then a darker more cozy/formal dining area further in. Upstairs they had a sort of library-feel area where you could eat/drink (and read?). A walkway crosses over the rear access alley to an outdoor beer garden, complete with picnic tables and umbrellas. This last area is also pet-friendly. Our group got drinks from a menu at the downstairs bar and then walked out to the beer garden and claimed a table, as the weather was nice. There are large shade trees towards the back of this area also. Being a brewery, they appeared to have a quite extensive beer menu. I'm not much into beer, so I'm unqualified to talk about what types they specialized in. They also had a limited wine menu. I looked later on their website to see what sort of food they offered, and one could definitely just come here for dinner also. Pricing appeared to be what you might expect from a somewhat upscale bar. If you are more beer centric, then this place would be worth checking out. read more

TL;DR - If you don't like the food, you might like their beer garden! We stopped by on a Sunday afternoon. The restaurant is pretty packed. Luckily we had a reservation. However, that didn't stopped all the negative services. As you might have guessed, the service was horrible. We waited for fifteen minutes and still had not gotten anybody asking us for drinks. It might be a single event since one of the waitresses later told me they were switching table assignments. Our waitress was not excited to pick up another table at first, but she did eventually warm up to us. The service and my experience is the biggest reason why I give the restaurant a 3 out of 5 stars. However, you might have a better luck. I still recommend someone to give the restaurant a try. We ordered wings for one of our appetizers. They are crispy but lack of flavor. The meat does come off the bone fairly easy. You have to try the sauce on the side if you decide to order the wings. It's a sweet chili base dip. Brussel sprout is a must try appetizer!! I'm not even a person who likes vegetable. The Brussel leafs are slight crispy. They provide a different experience for eating vegetables. I wonder if it will be even more crispy if they lower the amount of sauce. Brunswick Mussel is also a good one to try. The sauce is savory with a hint of butter and citrus. The only disappointment is the dish gets more salty as I get closer to finish cleaning the plate. After our meal, we went to the second floor to check out the tap room and the small library. The beer garden I have mentioned above is directly outside of the tap room. I think I will be back during a warmer weather for some of their beers. Came here on a Friday night with a group of friends. We sat outside at one of the big picnic tables. This area is open for people to just walk thru. Looks like the building had multiple businesses within. Service: Y I K E S ~ Everything was very unorganized. Took us 40 min to get our first round of drinks. The majority of the time at the brewery, we were drinking water. At some point, one of us ordered a flight and was told they ran out of flights.. what? We eventually got up and went to the bar ourselves to order and noticed a stack of clean flight glasses. At some point, our food was brought to a neighboring table so some of us didn't get our food at all. Our attendant was nice, but didn't really check on us to make sure we got everything we needed. Food: * Brussels ($9): OK. Light and crisp brussel sprouts mixed with ginger. As a non-ginger lover, I had to watch out for the chunks of ginger mixed in. * Pepperoni Pizza: Yummy. I love thin crust pizzas. What's funny about this one is, we never ordered it. This was placed on our table by accident and the lady just let us have it. And thank goodness b/c we would've starved otherwise. At this point, it had been 2 hours after we ordered and only got one order of brussels. We passed it around so everyone could have a slice. Drinks: We tried a spiked coffee which was really tasty but not sure what it's called. None of the other brews or cocktails really stood out for me. Parking: Few free spots (~10-15) in front of the building. Otherwise, you'll have to resort to (free) parking along the curb. The establishment seems nice but the service is soooo bad. Bold Monk is overall a great place to grab an afternoon beer or have a delicious dinner. Personally I enjoy their Belgium stye beers, but they're not for everyone, but fortunately they also have a selection of "typical" beers such as lagers, wheat, IPAs so everyone can find one they enjoy. The food is always solid with a few unique items, although my go to is their pizza. The vibe inside is great if a bit more upscale than the average brewery, but the best spot to hang out at is in the beer garden.It feels like you're escaping the hustle and bustle of Atlanta, and I swear it makes their beer taste even better. If I could I'd give Bold Monk a 4.5 out of 5, but I'm rounding up. The only drag I've found recently is service can be slow, especially on a weekend afternoon. You may wait 20 plus minutes in line to get a beer, but it's still worth it. read more

We always have a good food, beer, and service when we go to Bold Monk. Also, the prices are reasonable for this day and age. On our most recent visit, I was pleasantly surprised that they now brew their own non-alcoholic beer as I began drinking only NAs 8 months ago. Their NA is the best I have had in the category of "gold colored" beers. It was very flavorful and did not have that distinctive NA taste (much like Guiness 0, which is one of the best dark NAs). I wish they would sell their NA in cans. Currently, it is only available on tap on location, but I am thankful for that. read more

It's been a little over a year since I first went to Bold Monk and my complaints are still the same. The beer is decent and they have good number of options. The food was hit or miss, and service is still soo slow. Here's the beer we got, but please note that they also have liquor and wine: - Compassion ($9 for 14 oz.): I normally don't like sours, but this one was drinkable; $9 seems like a lot though - Walk on Water White ($6 for 16 oz.): Good, easy drinking - Sacred Inspiration ($6 for 16 oz.): I'd get the Walk on Water White over this one We went on a Saturday afternoon before 3:00, so some people got brunch and some got lunch. Here's the food we got: - Brussels + Eggs ($12): Brussels have great taste, but same complaint as before about the Brussels sprouts being SO oily. My suggestion is to make the base of this dish potatoes, with Brussels and eggs on top. And please, please, PLEASE drain the oil from the Brussels; won't get it again unless they make some serious changes - Bold Monk Chicken Biscuit ($13): I didn't like it because the chicken was a little weird; wouldn't get it again - Monk Burger ($16): Good, best thing we tried; the sauce that comes with the fries is so good - Richard's Fried Chicken Sandwich ($16): Good - Lamb Burger ($17): Good - Hummus Platter ($14): Good, but not worth $14 Covid: They supposedly require masks, but I saw multiple customers walking around without masks. I've been here a few times. One time was for a dinner double-date. Another time was for a large birthday party. They have a couple different levels with the downstairs being more of the restaurant (and full-service bar) and the upstairs being more of a lounge and a bookstore (yes, you read that right). They also have an outdoor/patio area that is dog friendly. There are a variety of in-house made brews, some of which are collaborations with other local distilleries (ASW). A variety of brews are available from strong ales and stouts, IPAs, and lagers. Had a good time every time I come here. read more
