Completely unexpected, but awesome awesome Indian food here. Definitely eat here if you're in the area. Sure, the place is absolutely no ambiance and is inside a truck stop, but do not be fooled by the exterior of this place. This restaurant is run by Punjabis and most of their clientele are Punjabi truck drivers. Yes, there is a whole business of truck drivers that are Punjabi Indians that drive trucks all over the US. The companies operate out of Canada and provide these services in the US. And did you know, that in India, Punjabis are known to run the truck companies there? So, essentially, there is this restaurant business all along large highway routes for Indian truck drivers. And definitely eat where they eat. It's like NYC taxi drivers, go where they eat! The AYCE buffet is what you need to get. It is served every day (except Mondays) from 11am - 5pm. Yes, all you can eat lunch buffet until 5pm! They have plenty of veggie options including channa (chickpeas), some kind of aloo (potato), very fresh naan, tandoori chicken, excellent pakoda (onion fritters), excellent gulab jamun (sweet dessert). If you ask for masala chai, they will give you a large piping hot, oh so good authentic Indian chai. And all this for whopping $12.99! Overall, an excellent place to fill your hungry belly and oh so delicious! Trust me on this one, I know my Indian food (been to India) and this place is legit. read more

It seriously rivals the Indian food I've had in big cities, and was quite popular with the locals. It is located at a very unassuming truck stop, and was a bit slow due to limited people working. The bathrooms were also very gross. I recommend calling ahead to place a to-go order, and don't let the exterior dissuade you from having some delicious Indian food from this hole-in-the-wall establishment. Awful, awful service. We waited for close to ten minutes to be seated and nobody even acknowledged us. Plenty of guys kept walking past us to the counter to place or pick up orders (not sure which) and the employee at the counter was happy to help them out. He never once made eye contact with us, told us someone would help us shortly, etc. It felt so chaotic and disorganized in there. It felt dirty too. We had an engine breakdown as we were driving through. Staying at a hotel without transportation made things tricky. The notes we saw said they do not deliver, but when we called, they do!!! Their navratan korma is the best I've ever had. Everything else my husband ordered was also delicious, but the navratan korma.... Bombay Grill is delicious. The staff and the food are authentic along with cool modern Eastern Indian music videos playing on a large screen tv. After all in the middle of now where in Gallup N.M. Or at least for me as I was driving through. Don't let the truck stop front facade fool you it is so worth it to stop in and enjoy tasty authentic Eastern Indian food. This place is busy. March 18, 2018 update Added pics of current menu. Food is still the best in NM! Excellent authentic Indian food! Ordered the Bahaar-E-Subz and it was amazing, super fresh and very tasty. The Shahi Murg Biryani was fantastic! And the garlic nan took me back to my time in southern India. The employee we spoke with was from Punjab and was super nice. We will definitely stop here again! Been here several times and every single time I'm beyond satisfied. The buffet is excellent. Every single thing is delicious. Every now and then new items will be added/replaced with other entrees. I've never tried anything "gross", single handedly everything I've ever tried here was bomb!!!!! This place is a 'diamond in the rough'. In the middle of nowhere, I wasnt sure what to expect. We appreciated the buffet option, though not clearly labeled for vegan/ vegetarian. Spices were on point, the naan was amazing & overall very tasty! I read the reviews before we got to Bombay and knew we wanted to share a few plates at Bombay. The gas station is really nothing to write home about. Maybe even the kind you should double check your door lock button was hit, twice. The restaurant is connected to NK's Truck Stop. It is cattycorner from the TA/Love's Truck Stops but the food should be your heartstrin puller! A long journey of Neo-Mexican, Thai-Fusion, Italian tapas & so many other attempts to be current and innovative in culinary quests in the last few weeks left us all wanting something untainted. The deepest desire I had was to try out their goat biryani( my personal favorite at any middle eastern/Indian restaurant!), butter chicken, mango lassi and saag paneer. I grew up in a true melting pot so my affinity for Indian may be stronger than most. I let everyone else try the naan and give me feedback because gluten free life leaves me googly eyed and lustful when I know the bread is going to be good but definitely not for me. The onion and the garlic naan was a huge hit! I was immediately struck by how well the biryani was spiced. The coriander seeds made my heart happy to not see the spices used be those ground into nonethingness. A lassi with some texture or cinnamon on the rice pudding always makes me happier. The butter chicken had really good pieces of dark meat that was well seasoned and the tomato richness countered with cream was fantastic. I forgot to order saag but I do have to save something for next time. The chai was just okay, it isn't my pick because that just seems so easy to make at home or straight from a store bought concentrate. The chicken shahi korma was new to me and the raisins lend to a sweetness and texture that is both satisfying as well as new. We went a bit after 3pm so any lunch rush was over. I haven't had Indian food this good since Los Angeles. We ordered the Makhani shrimp, chicken Biryani, and Naan. Absolutely delicious! We will be back. The food was great! I didn't love the fact that it was right next to the restrooms in the truck stop or that it smelled like smoke but the food made up for it. It was kind of hard to order as there's an untraditional menu and they would rather take your order in description but I was able to have a great vegan meal and my husband some chicken tikka masala. Long story short, one of my friends came to me raving about this Indian joint at a truck stop in Gallup, which of course is what you think of when you think Indian food. We were a bit skeptical, but also when you're out in this neck of the woods, there isn't a whole lot of variety, so we had a craving and drove an hour across the AZ-NM border to get here. TLDR: This was maybe the best Indian food I've had outside of Los Angeles and Toronto, two much larger and more international cities. Now I'm writing this review about 2 months after the fact, so I don't entirely remember everything we ordered. I know that we at least got the Malai Kofta, the Mutter Paneer, Chicken Tika Masala, Samose, and Garlic Naan and did it up family style. I think there was some lamb dish I'm missing in there too. You get complimentary chai with the meal, but people who are used to American coffeeshop chai will think it's very watery and bland. Basically it all came out with several plates of heaping rice and we just helped ourselves. Everything was really well-seasoned, and the flavours were great. The garlic naan in particular is really killer (on both the taste buds and the arteries). Ingredients all seem fresh. I think it is a tad on the pricey side of things, but I can't imagine that getting some of these ingredients into Gallup is cheap. Plus it's the only option for possibly hundreds of miles. read more

I was on a road trip from CA to TX & I reached the restaurant 20 mins after they had closed & their cook was gone but after learning I was travelling with kids & we were hungry, he was kind enough to put together some food for us & gave us rice, raita & some Naan he had on hand & didn't even accept money for that... that was a total sikh seva gesture, all my family was so happy to find such tasty food at that hour. Traveling across America and even across the world I know a good curry (at least I would hope) I've driven past this establishment for 3 years now, stopping on many occasions for the buffet, however, I have refrained from yelping because I feel they are not really in the business of being a great establishment or not really concerned about 'reviews' The clientele are mainly Indian Truck Drivers and most, I would guess, are just happy they are getting a good hearty Indian meal like mum makes including the milk and sugar induced hot beverage disguised as a 'Indian' tea. The reason for 2 stars? Everything in the buffet taste the same! All the veggie dishes and all the meat dishes all seem to been made from the same culinary base Whilst I understand this can cut costs in preparation it doesn't really work when everything on your plate taste the same Maybe next time I'll try something from the menu or maybe I'll just drive past and try something different read more

This place is good for passing by customers. They Keep normally buffet excepting Monday's. Food is average but for Indians Veg - Non Veg people there is no other better option around 100 Miles. This way it's best if you are hungry, passing by Gallup during your lunch or dinner hours. read more
