My friend and I came here on a Thursday night for their dessert! We heard that the madeleines are some of the best in the city, and we were not disappointed - on the contrary, we were quite impressed. The madeleines are delightfully fluffy and soft. They come warm, with a side of chocolate sauce and another white, creamy, sweet sauce. It was absolutely delicious (recommend dipping in both sauces)! My friend and I also each got the French gin and tonic which had a wonderful grapefruit flavor. We also enjoyed that they had movies playing on the wall - very fun! Checked out Bon Delire and enjoyed our meal. Located in Embcardero, it had a fun ambiance especially on a Friday evening. We sat at their bar area and our server/bartender was friendly and knowledgeable. Loved their eggs mayo, and their cheese/cured meat board. The beef tartare needed a tad bit of creaminess. We were pleasantly surprised! Our friend chose this restaurant, and at first glance, the menu was small and everything sounded just okay. But once the food came out, it completely exceeded our expectations. Everything we ordered was so good. I will preface this by saying - French food is not a cuisine i eat often... and that i did essentially just order a ham and cheese sandwhich... but yeah i would not pay that much for a fancy sandwhich again. The steak tartare was OK.. but honestly there are better options for me in FiDi! Many other people have said very positive things - this just isnt right for my palatte... Service was great! Business lunch at Bon Delire, first time here. It's a small space with lots of character. Our group shared orders of the steak tartar, leek gribiche and oeufs mayonnaise (eggs covered in mayo sauce). The steak tartar with a yolk on top served with crisp potato chips was a fav, and the leek dish a close second, everyone agreed it was surprisingly good (never had leeks prepared this way before). The egg dish was a bit too rich for me. Entrées included the steak frites, croque madame and a the special of the day. The steak was prepared with a sauce poivre, and was delicious. AMAZING SERVICE. I went here for my birthday and it was such a treat. Small cute place near the pier and the menu is limited but all great choices. Our server was so attentive, when I cheers my drink and it spilled a bit on my plate- as soon as I went to wipe it up with my napkin he came to the table to clean it. The steak was so soft and juicy, very easy to cut. The bread and butter was fresh and the butter spread was honestly, the best butter I've ever had. The duck was crispy and the meat was tender. I came here for brunch over the weekend and it was buzzing. The space is cozy with big windows that let in tons of light, and I loved the bar setup. The food was good. So please note: the SOLE reason for the rating of this restaurant is the service that was provided by Irvan. He welcomed us to the bar with a couple of glasses of champagne. I mean he provided amazing service, he was social and engaging, he knew the restaurants best plates, as well as what to recommend at the right time.. My girl and I decided to roll with what Irvan was giving at the bar. However, I kept looking around at the seating situation. The hostess saw that I was watching and eventually came over to offer a low top table outside. Thank you but no thank you..... I don't eat outside with dogs, flies, and strays. She tried? Did she?......the verdict is still out on that one. The moral of the story within this review is that you will need the table's DNA to request an indoor table besides sitting at the bar, If it's your first time like it was for me, you're fuqed. Back to the food, absolutely delicious! Everything was so French, buttery, and riche. A chefs kiss for sure to the food and drinks. Stopped by around 1pm on a Saturday. It looks like the seats/booths are held for reservations. It's definitely a smaller restaurant as most tables seem to seat 3 people max and there is one large table at the back (maybe 5-6 people max). Without reservations, you can either sit at the bar or the outside (which seemed to have heaters). They are playing music inside so it's a nice vibe! Service was good as well, although our dessert did take awhile to come out, but it was totally worth it. Caesar salad - simple and clean. I love how the Parmesan and croutons are shaved over - it makes it easy to spread out over the romaine. The sauce is not overly creamy or heavy as well. Steak frites with truffle fries - very tender steak (requested medium rare). Better than most steak frites that I've had in Paris. Sauce was creamy and peppery but not overly rich or thick. Truffle fries were very crispy and the truffle aioli had a darker truffle taste to it. Pain Perdu - amazing dessert! Caramelized top without being bitter or burnt. Soft inside. A very nice French bistro with patio seating located on the Embarcadero. It was a beautiful day with lots of sunshine outside. I sat a the wrap-around bar inside and was greeted and served relatively efficiently and well. The burger was just the right size for a late lunch/snack and was very good, although I had to add fries (small cup for $8) separately. The pot de creme was also good, with a slightly bitter chocolate flavor that made it deliciously distinctive from pot de creme in general that I consider only ok because they have little flavor. read more

There was a Chase Preferred and Infatuation promo and Bon Delire was one of the restaurants so we took the opportunity to check it out. The specials that night were duck confit, poached cod, and pork. We got the duck confit and poached cod. I wish they offered to tell us about the specials because it was just listed on a board that we couldn't read very well from where we were seated. I did like that the waitress recommended that we get bread with our escargot. We enjoyed soaking up with the garlic butter. The food was good overall. This was the crispiest duck I've ever had. I'm not the biggest fan of beans and it was slightly too salty for my taste so not my favorite dish but overall good. The poached cod was nice because it was a lighter dish. It came w a green sauce that I think was a pea puree and mashed potatoes. The atmosphere was nice and intimate. The decor made it seem like a french bistro, which is nice for a celebratory dinner. With so much food innovation in San Francisco, sometimes it's nice just to hit the French classics. Great location by the waterfront with a simple and effective menu. Had steak two ways and some cheese, for a great lunch. Steak Tartare: Such a classic French indulgence. Small cut tender pieces of steak in such a flavorful mix of ingredients. The raw egg yolk is mixed tableside. Really love the thin potato chip as a pairing, since it adds a lot of crisp but not much carbs so you can focus you taste on the meat. Fourme d'Ambert: Funky and pungent, in a good way. The fruit jam was a nice pairing to complement the intensity. The bread provided was a tad skimpy for the cheese, so had to get more bread. Pain Maison: They were a little sneaky about this. We ran out of bread before our cheese was done, so they asked if we wanted more bread. I thought we'd just get another small piece, like what came with the cheese originally. Instead they gave us the big bread basket for $8. Wish they were more transparent. While it was tasty, I don't think the bread was baked in-house, so I probably wouldn't have opted for this had I known better. Steak Frites w/ Sauce Poivre: Delicious! I came with a few friends to celebrate a birthday during brunch. Their brunch menu was small but I felt like it still had a variety of options. They also had about 4 additional entrees that were on special for the day. The inside of the restaurant is very small but the bar is gorgeous and center stage. The restaurant has floor to ceiling windows that gives a bunch of beautiful natural light. The day we went they also had a dj which made it fun! Such a cute and chic French spot tucked along the Embarcadero! My friends and I stopped in for brunch before the farmers market and hung out for a bit. The vibe is lovely, beautiful decor with a bar right in the center that really commands your attention. We ordered a few dishes to share so we could try a bit of everything. You know those times when you stumble on something so insanely delicious, you never expected it? Their grilled salmon was one of the best dishes I'd eaten: shatteringly crispy charred crust, served with skin up, perfectly cooked moist medium flirting with rare interior, pink flesh, so forgiving I didn't need a knife. Literally peeled off the skin and ate it like a freaking cracker. No joke. I Mean. The chef is a wizard. I asked our server to convey our gratitude. So many restaurants get salmon wrong. They literally kill it and cook it to death so that it's thick and rigid, the poor salmon giving its life for an unskilled cook. Yuck. But this? Oh man oh man, sheer absolute perfection. That experience was from start to finish, magic, e.g. the caesar salad perfectly dressed any with anchovy, crispy lettuce romaine and some herbs, everything sooooo good. It's always a mistake to have a rosy memory and want to grasp it to replicate it because of course, it's not gonna happen. But I made exactly that mistake when I ordered the salmon a second time, but in a different preparation. It was great, but not magical. I'll go back and get it grilled with the shatteringly crispy crust. Though usually I'm a sucker for a good croquettes madame, theirs didn't quite do it for me but I'd give it another go. Any place that has it on their menu automatically gets a free pass lol:-) Service is awesome, on point and the record collection/player with whimsy is everything. It's on the Embarcadero and parking is very difficult. We have a disabled placard, and it's still hard. Some of the parking lots are ridiculous, e.g. for just a few hours, it's over $34 bucks ... whaaaat? Forget it. One of the biggest drawbacks of this place is the acoustics: all hard surfaces (except for the fabric booths), there's marble and hard ceilings and walls and tables, sound reverberates and e\bounces and echoes--at peak times, it's deafening. When we go again, it'll be as the lunch or brunch hours at waning, so it's quieter. If noise isn't an issue for you, it's thoroughly charming, a quaint little bistro. Prices are terrific, especially for the quality of the ingredients and the expert preparation. read more

I ordered the sole which was buttery, but still delicate abed of a pile of spinach. The duck confit was perfectly braised and so juicy. The truffle fries was everything I hoped for. Cute spot in the embarcadero. The scenic view is beautiful outside however it can get really windy and cold! The heaters aren't oriented in a way where you feel a lot of the warmth. The escargo and bread was a delicious combination. The Le Burger was super and cooked perfectly. It's a bit small but with a side order of fries we were full. The chef came outside to plate the halibut from pan to plate which was awesome! I'm not a big steamed fish/cream sauce person so If I could go back though I might've gotten the steak (they were about the same price). We ordered a couple of drinks, escargot, bread, and the two specials: the cod and duck confit. This place offers rustic bread with salted butter that was delicious. Paired with the escargot to dip into the leftover juices and herb sauce was divine. The cod was soft and flaky. It was covered with a good portion of manila clams which all rested on top of a small pile of mash. This was my favorite dish of the night. The duck confit was extremely crispy which had a nice texture, but a tad dry. It rested on a generous portion of beans which was rather salty altogether. Super cute French spot on the Embarcadero! Had a seat inside, it was kind of warm at first but gradually cooled off as the evening progressed. Wished there was more space as you're practically in top of the next table but I guess a true french experience. Food was great but as others have mentioned, portions are tiny! We asked our server Aaron his thoughts on how much we should we be ordering and he was right on: - croquettes - really good texture and flavor, loved the sauce - croque madame - prob my fave dish of the night, was joking/not joking about ordering another - scallop special - amazing and bright flavor, gorgeous presentation in the shell - shared the chicken main - Aaron said it was the best dish of the mains and we enjoyed it. Sauce was amazing and the chicken was so tender. This was a big entree and Aaron recommended we share which was also right on - profiteroles for dessert and a glass of port was a great ending to the meal Taking off a star bc of how pricy it was compared to portion you get, and how small the space was.
