Skip and Sage at the bar provided excellent customer service, which is hard to find these days. They also gave great menu recommendations. Tired while on our way back from Houston to BR, we made a quick pit stop for dinner when Rags' brother visited us a few weeks ago. The place came highly recommended by a colleague at work and I was excited to try it. The vibe is pretty rustic - wooden log cabin style. Our server was very nice and service on the whole was pretty good. I started with the unsweet ice tea and I think it was perfectly brewed. Not biterly strong, but not watered down either. The boys got moscow mules and beer, all went along well. For my food, they fixed me a plate with caesar salad, a side of sweet potato mash and some grilled veggies. The salad was actually very good, as was the mash. The grilled veggies were kind of an afterthought and not great. Rags had the Shrimp Jambalaya. Interestingly, it was done with pasta and not rice, but was delicious. Rags' brother got the crawfish pot pie, and this was definitely the highlight of the meal. Creamy crawfish etoufee with flaky, golden crust - this was perfection! Definitely recommend this for anyone coming here. I can't come to Acadie and not eat a gator, right? So here we came to the Bon Temps Grill. We noshed the complimentary garlic bread while perusing the menu. The Boy settled on a Bon Temps BBQ Burger with the house version of French fries. Darling Bride ordered the Honey Chili Chicken. I opted for the Barbecued Gator Doria. The grilled vegetables were delightful- a little al dente, just how I like them. Good and fresh, too. My side of cheddar jalapeño grits were excellent; a fantastic blend of creamy and spicy. The gator was not quite fork-tender, but neither was it tough, and it paired marvelously with the boudin , which wasn't so much a stuffing as a base layer. Son's Bon Temps Fryers (think garlic and truffle steak fries) were so good, I very nearly regretted ordering my grits. His burger was delicious- served on a chewy roll, it was a smoky, sweet revelation. He couldn't finish, probably because he'd eaten a fist-sized biscuit down the road a few minutes earlier. Darling Bride's chicken was quite good, both fiery and sweet. She chose the Red Hot Potatoes as a side, which were mashed red potatoes with spicy crab seasoning. They were nice but not spicy enough to show next to the honey chili sauce on the chicken, so she suggests that the sage sweet potatoes might have been a better choice for the sake of contrast. Dinner and fountain drinks for the three of us came to $50.23, tax included. (We did stick to the cheaper end of the menu.) The only sour note was the nearby table of loud, profane, and intolerant drunks, but I'm certainly not going to hold them against the restaurant. A little off the beaten path but well worth it. Wonderful meal at Bon Temps! The parking lot was PACKED and I was kicking myself for not making a reservation, but the wait was only 5 minutes!! Wonderful service from start to finish. I started with a Bon Temps Blue and the meat pies, both were delicious. The meat pies had a spicy/sweet sauce you can tell was hand made, so good. For my entree I had the Pasta any ways with crawfish.It had the perfect amount of pasta to sauce ratio and so good. Finished the meal off with a bread pudding huge, perfect amount to share. Bon Temps Grill is a must for anyone visiting Lafayette that wants to get a taste for the local food. This is where all the locals go! The parking lot is almost always close to full but getting a seat is not a problem. I was in Lafayette for 2 days and went here twice. Once for dinner and for lunch before I flew out. For dinner I had the Jumbo Lump Crab Cake and Crawfish Enchiladas which were divine. For dessert I had hot pecan pie with vanilla ice cream and I coffee. I would have died a happy man if this was my last meal on earth! The next day I had the Seafood Stuffed Mushrooms (on recommendation of the bartender) which were out of this world and a large bowl of Gumbo soup with rice. I cannot wait to go back to Lafayette so I can go eat here again. read more

There's not much open on a Sunday night for dinner in this town, but this place is. The food was good, but I didn't think great. My dinner companions each had a caesar salad as one of their sides, and the salads didn't seem to have any dressing, which is the whole point of the salad. There's nothing better than returning to my home state but in a different city than my hometown and getting some delicious home cooked food. That's a lot of home, but I love it - and I really enjoyed Bon Temps. The experience began with excellent customer service that continued throughout. The hostess, Grace, greeted and wished me farewell by opening the door, welcoming me, and seating me right away. That excellent customer service continued throughout with my server, Mitch. He helped me navigate that hard to decide menu and was able to perfectly balance when to come to the table and when to just chill, which is no easy task. After a tough decision, I went with their classic, Crawfish Pot Pie, and it did not disappoint. I must admit that I was expecting a little more flavor and spice, but I did enjoy it. The portion size is massive, as you can see, and the crawfish was abundant. I also had a Hurricane, but honestly, it didn't taste like one; this was probably the only slightly disappointing thing, but it's also hard to match up to Pat O's. Even though I love desserts, I'm usually way too full from the above to indulge even if I want to; however, I will almost never pass up something that includes Bananas Foster. I don't usually eat Bread Pudding either, but again, that flavor is just too good to pass up. So putting that all together, a BIG YES for this Bananas Foster Bread Pudding - a little rich but such a good taste overall. In a nutshell, this place is not overrated like others have mentioned, and I imagine most of the other menu options are excellent as well. I'd say a solid 4.5 stars, but I'll give them that extra half star. A definite must go if in Lafayette! read more
