Driving through Louisiana and decided to stop in Lafayette for some local grub. Found some reviews on this place and decided to get off the 10 and give it a shot. Small quaint little place with a cool Louisiana vibe. My server was great and the food was good as well! Ordered the gator bang bang and it was not overcooked like some other reviewers stated and tasted good and was tender. Also got the sausage and boudin which was good as well. Good for sharing and last got the crab cake. Crab cake was moist and came out delicious. Also got the local yellowfin vodka made with cane sugar and that was great! Had dinner at Bons Temps tonight. Local draft beers for $3 - what a deal! And tasty! Gumbo was very good - roux was the star. I like a little more "goody" - a la Pappadeaux style - but it was good! Po'boy with fried shrimp was great- loved the sauce. We tried the corn maque choux- it was great. Potato salad side very good too. Service was fantastic - our waitress had been there a little over a year - she was great! Very helpful to newcomers. We want to come back to try more dishes and the pecan pie! read more

Tonight we had the pleasure of attending one of my husbands co-worker retirement dinner. The dinner was held in Lafayette Louisiana at a restaurant called Bon Temps Grill located at 1211 Pinhook Rd in Lafayette Louisiana. Once we arrived we went on inside and were immediately escorting to our table. We we're the first ones there so we ordered cocktails. Shortly after everyone else finally arrived. The place was very nice with a large for dining areas with awesome Mardi Gras Decor. Yeap it's that time of the year. They're was also a live band performing that sounded really good. Our server brought us menus and everything looked so good. Once everyone looked over the menus we decided to order. The appetizers ordered were Sausage and Boudin with sliced Garlic bread with charred red onion aioli Creole mustard and Alligator Bang Bang. Marinated Alligator bites fried and tossed on bang bang sauce. So delicious. For entrees I got the 12oz Boudin Stuffed Pork Chop with sage sweet potato mash with a side Ceasar salad. My husband got the 14oz Ribeye cut in half with Red hot Potatoes and a side Ceasar salad. Everything was so delicious. If you're in Lafayette area, this is a must! I went in on a Tuesday night, usually a B team staff in the kitchen and front of the house. The kitchen staff was on it this night! Ordered the corn & crab bisque as an app. The wait staff this night, a very young, seeming new wait staffer. Theres complementary bread offered to other tables, that I had to ask for. The wine menu is decent, so ordered a glass. Water glass would sit empty while server passed table a few times. The bisque was delivered by a manager I'm guessing, not my server. Before I could ask for anything she was flipped and away. The saving grace here was the kitchen. The bisque was out of the park, and for an entree I ordered another appetizer, the shrimp and grits...oh hell yeah! This was amazing. Nice place with music and great food. Had the Shrimp and Tasso Pasta which was rich and creamy, The portion size was very generous for $22. Service was OK-had to ask 3 times for a glass for my beer and I requested crawfish instead of the shrimp but it was served with shrimp. When I mentioned that the manager came over and offered to comp the dish or remake it which was nice. But it was so good, passed on that. They comped the beer I had. So this is one of those reviews where I'm only giving it 3 stars for 1 specific thing. The atmosphere is great, people are friendly and service is quick. After a long drive (19 hours), we stopped here to eat something solid and filling before going to sleep. I got to try boudin for the first time and it was delicious. My man meal was fried catfish with crawfish etouffe with a side of red beans and rice. Catfish was delicious and the sauce from the etouffe was amazing as a heavy on top of the catfish. The rice was undercookedso I couldn't enjoy it with the red beans. I even left the beans on top, hoping the heat would cook the rice a little more but it didn't help. What I did appreciate was the fact that when I mentioned it to the server, it was removed from the bill and the manager came to apologize. I took the rest of the boudin with me to my hotel and ate it later on. It was still good. I would go back. I just hope the rice is fully cooked next time. My second terrific meal tonight at Bon Temps Grill. The first outing was the grilled meatloaf. I was skeptical at first, bit my foodie curiosity got them best of me... And I'm glad it did. Super yum. This was my first time visiting Lafayette and my brother knew this restaurant would be the perfect place to try some true Cajun food. My family and I grabbed lunch and were extremely pleased with the food. I tried the Catfish with crawfish étouffée smothered on top. We also shared crispy gator nuggets as an appetizer. I wasn't keen in trying alligator, but if my 10 year old nephew can eat it then I'm sure I'll be okay. Now dinner, order two house wines and we expected the first one on the list, got our bill and we were charged for the more expensive wines and a 9oz pour, she never asked what size, and my Chardonnay didn't taste like Kendall Jackson which I have quite often. Lesson learned, specify which wine and size or they will automatically up charge, I think it's just wrong. The staff professional, courteous and look like the enjoy being at work. The swamp legs are a go to favorite and today I resisted getting my favorite meatloaf poboy and decided on a healthier blackened lettuce wrap. The balance between sweet, spicy and savory was absolutely impeccably balanced. The creamy roux the seafood stuffed mushrooms was plated on was pure Food Heaven. Personally I would have liked to have had a little more seafood in the stuffing, it was too much bread, but the herbs used were spot on. Decided to try this place while driving to New Orleans. Our experience was not as good as any reviews lead us to expect. We did not have to wait long to be seated, however, our server was immensely distracted. She kept disappearing and took a long time to initially arrive and on multiple occasions had to wave to another staffer, or literally had to get up from our table to find someone. Personally ordered the alligator Po-boy while my husband ordered the seared prime rib Po-boy. The bread resembles a longer bun verses anything like traditional French bread and most of it we didn't eaten - it was terrible bread. The flavor of the alligator by itself was okay but the prime rib was too fatty, too thickly sliced and lacked any flavor, or seasoning what so ever. Wow! Im a flight attendant and get to eat at ALOT of places. We came in to Lafayette on New Year's Day. The front desk ckerk at our hotel said hardly any restaurants were open due to the holiday. I opened Yelp and started calling until I found someone open. To say i was excited that they were open was an understatment. But a chance encounter here with a chill bartender, richly knowledgeable in Cajun cuisine, reminds me why I always travel back to Louisiana. We decided to give them a try on Saturday. The parking lot was pretty full, so we were lucky to get a seat. Once inside, it had a similar vibe to many other South Louisiana restaurants, nothing really out of the ordinary. They had a nice bar if that's something people are looking for. We were greeted and seated immediately. The staff were friendly, helpful, and stopped repeatedly throughout our dinner to make sure we were good. Top notch service. We selected the Boucherie Board for Two because we thought it would give us a good taste of a variety of things. There wasn't as much food on the board as the pictures appear, but plenty for us to still have food left over. Our favorite on the board were the ribs. They were really good. The steak was good, but was more well done than medium. It still tasted good, but wasn't cooked as requested. The sausage were really good and tasty. The grilled shrimp were large and seasoned well, though we both prefer not having the tail on them when they are grilled. The jalapeno cheese grits were good, and the corn macque chow was good, but nothing special. All in all it was good, but we would probably choose something else next time. We had the cinnamon roll (can't remember the actual name they called it) for dessert. We shared a half a cinnamon roll, and that was plenty. It was really good, not too sweet, and we would absolutely get it again.
