What a great local family restaraunt. Even though there were a lot of cajun entees they did not use to much salt or spice. Our group of 8 share appetizers of raw tuna seasoned with ponzi sauce over top of avocado. A spectacular dish. Also shared was a giant crab cake, just damn perfect. My wife had an appetizer beet salad for an entree with a sweet potato mash. Both were excellent and exceeded all or any expectation. She couldn't finish the beet salad, it was huge. Circles of marinated red beets on the bottom, thick diced golden beets around some fried goat cheese. Ok, I was boring with a large rib eye but it was just as ordered. One in our party had a turtle soup and salad with grilled shrimp. I think she slurped and licked that soup bowl!!! Others had the flounder special with shrimp and crab sauce. For desert, 8 of us shared 1 bread pudding and 1 chocolate cake. The bread pudding had a crunch to, was amazingly good, but obscenely large. I had high hopes for this Cajun restaurant but was very disappointed. The recommended appetizer was the Gator bites with Bang Bang sauce. These were deep fried, over cooked and tough, the bang bang sauce completely overwhelmed the Gator and did not have a good flavor. We ordered the Boucherie Board for Two. This gives you a sampling of multiple dishes. The results were mixed. The sausage, boudin, grilled shrimp, sirloin, and Corn Maque Choux were very good. However, the tuna was dry and tasteless despite being rare, a second boudin was also dry and tastess, the ribs were overcooked and tough and all you could taste was cinnamon from the applesauce they glazed it with, and the bon temp potatoes were rewarmed and out of Denny's. We tried 3 cocktails, two with the restaurant name. All of the drinks had ingredients that should have been good, but the balance of the portions was completely off. The bartender did not seem to have any sense of mixology. For example the Bon Temp mule I ordered had 3/4 of a whole line in the small copper mug. It was extremely bitter. I had to request more simple syrup and Ginger beer to add to be able to drink it. We ordered dessert to go - bread pudding. They didn't provide a spoon in the package. Overall experience was about a 2.5 . Staff seemed very flustered, but at the same time relaxed. Sounds confusing but the best way to describe it would be organized chaos. We went for lunch it wasn't overly packed. The Live music was great! Food was very mediocre. Ordered the crawfish hushpuppies, the inside had little to no taste and the outside had a great text, but burnt taste. For an entree I got the grilled chicken with a chili sauce which was good besides it being a little over done. The two sides were terrible. The vegetable skewer was cold and honestly felt like they just chopped the raw veggies and put them on the plate. The grits had a very weird texture and an even worst taste took 2 bites and was done. Could have been an off day or having ordered something that just wasn't popular don't know, but all in all wasn't a great experience. read more

It's a bit off the I-10, but ain't I so happy that we drove over instead of settling with typical highway restaurants. The shrimp and Tasso pasta is great. The portion is not huge but it's good so that we have some room for dessert. Crawfish pot pie is good but after the pasta, not so in love with it. Banana foster bread pudding with vanilla ice cream is a must-order, said by me who doesn't usually like any sort of bread pudding. Service is warm and efficient, place is clean. read more

We had the following: Jumbo Lump Crab Cake - Our signature creamy bechamel crab cake, fried with cornflake and almond breading, served on a bed of herb cream and Siracha chili sauces, topped with lump crab sauté - nice and flaky, fried to perfection, and the sauce was delicious! Braised Brussel Sprouts - nicely braised, can eat bowls of these! Crawfish Pot Pie - Homemade pie crust filled with Ms. Gloria's famous crawfish étouffée - nice and flaky, the étouffée was hot and flavorful Shrimp and Tasso - Louisiana shrimp and shredded tasso, tossed together in a cream sauce served over fettuccine noodles - the cream sauce was delicious! This place is so awesome. I can't even tell you. The gumbo has chicken and andouille sausage in a deep dark roux. The bar serves full liquor, wine and beer. The ambiance is great...a little dark, romantic, not stuffy at all. Not super nice and casual enough that no one needs to feel awkward. read more

Great location near ULL campus and the Oil Center! Love the decor! We were pressed for time at lunch and were able to get in and out quickly. Our server was amazing! True rating 3.75 This is a casual neighborhood Cajun restaurant/bar with a friendly staff and cozy atmosphere. I ordered the Shrimp With Tasso (pork pieces similar to bacon bits) pasta dish with fettuccine and cream sauce. It was delicious, but could have used more shrimp. My husband ordered the Shrimp And Grits, which is one of his favorite meals. The menu said that the shrimp are cooked in a sort of barbecue sauce and served with jalapeno cheese grits. When the dish arrived its appearance wasn't what we expected. It was a large bowl full of brown liquid with a pile of LARGE head-on shrimp in the center. The menu didn't mention that the shrimp would be served with their heads still attached, and the waitress made no mention of it when we ordered. We are not southerners, so this view, as well as having to remove the soupy heads before eating, was off-putting. In spite of that, the shrimp was huge, fresh, and super delicious. The grits... who knows, as they get lost in the soup. We finished with the bread pudding which is probably the best we've had, aside from homemade. It had a lovely cinnamon-y crispness on top, was topped with what seemed like homemade vanilla bean ice cream, and was bathed in a buttery sauce spiked heavily with alcohol... not sure if it was a traditional rum sauce or something else, but it was a bit heavy-handed. We will try this place again next time we are passing through Lafayette. read more

The gumbo is superb! On our way to the beach. Had to have some southern Louisiana gumbo. So worth the stop!

First time here but won't be the last. Even tho the parking lot was full and I expected a wait because we didn't have reservations, we were seated immediately. The staff is amazing, everyone is genuinely upbeat and friendly and eager to help. Our waiter, Lee, was outstanding, he was happy and personable, and explained everything. He checked on us all through our dining experience to make sure all was well. My best impression was from the manager, who introduced himself and made sure we were satisfied. He later talked to us again just making the rounds to each table. We were close to the front so I observed him and the greet staff often and all of them were on top of it, I've not seen a restaurant manager so actively involved, ever. There was a great band playing and it was lively, too bad there was not a dance floor. As for the food, WOW! I had the grilled redfish with sides of something called hot potato, and a veggie medley. It was all cooked to perfection and delicious. My wife had shrimp and tasso fettuccini and it was wonderful also. We both had food left over and later finished it at our hotel. Anytime I am around Lafayette this is a go-to place. read more

Our waitress, Shantelle was amazing! You get garlic bread when you sit down so we ordered the BBQ shrimp and grits as an appetizer. It was 10/10 yummy! The sauce was perfect to dip with their garlic French bread. The étouffée pot pie with their corn maque choux (sweet buttery corn with onions and tomatoes) was a great entree. The creme brûlée cheesecake was an amazing end to a fantastic meal. This is one of the first times we have been overly-satisfied at a restaurant! Great service, food, and vibes. The parking lot parked to capacity was a good sign as we approached the Bon Temps grill. We had just flown into Lafayette and our first choice was closed up tighter then a gator's tuckus. This turned out to be a blessing. The dining room was filled to capacity but we managed to get a couple seats at the bar. We were attended to by a very friendly and thorough bartender. The food was as to be expected, and desired, Cajun creole fare. We ordered a nice selection of appetizers to sample and were quite pleased. The duck and gator wings were very different, each one possessing a defined flavor that complimented the other. The sausage and boudin plate was very good. I have to take a little issue with the "crab cake." The bartender was quite adamant that we try the crabcake even after we told him that we were from Baltimore and self-professed crabcake experts. He promised us that it would be the best crabcake we ever had. Well I have to say that it sucked--as a "crabcake." Come'on, I'm from Baltimore, I know crabcakes and they should be solid crab meat with little or no filler, broiled to a golden brown perfection. But let's have a little paradigm shift here. Let's say for a minute that this was not a crab cake. Let's call this a Cajun crab and bechamel sauce croquette. Well now I'm going to take off my Maryland Crabake glasses and view this with a fresh set of eyes and expectations. Crispy crust the breaks open to reveal a deliciously creamy crabby interior. Adjust the framework and this dish is darn good! I followed the apps with a very well prepared fish taco. All in all it was an excellent dining experience. read more

Took my husband here for his birthday lunch based off of other reviews and it definitely did not disappoint. We couldn't decide on what to get so we 3 apps to share. Started with the boudin and sausage board and it was amazing. The chicken sausage with the roasted pepper spread was my favorite. We shared a crab cake and it was the perfect size to split. Last but not least, we had to try the swamp legs! That was our first time eating alligator legs and they were the highlight of our meal! If you get a chance to stop here, you MUST try them. They really care about the customer here. The catfish mon dieu was possibly the best I have ever had. The wife asked for a cocktail sauce and the chef whipped one up from scratch that was fantastic. Can't give 1 star. No food and drinks were wrong. Waiter was incompetent and manager refused to come out and talk with us.

This was the first and last time we will visit Bon Temps Grill. Let me start with the service. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable about the questions I had regarding the menu. We ordered the crab cakes. They were burned on the outside and soggy on the inside. I have had better...much better. My wife ordered the shrimp and Tasso pasta which she enjoyed. I ordered the full rack of ribs with two sides. A garden salad and braised brussel sprouts. The side salad was average. It did have some not so fresh lettuce in it. There were several brownish lettuce leaves. The braised brussel sprouts were not good at all. They were cold and appeared to have been sitting around for awhile. The rack of ribs had obviously been cooked hours if not days earlier then were reheated in a oven. This resulted in very dry ribs that were hard to down. I left 3/4 of the ribs and all of the brussel sprouts on my plate. Perhaps we just caught them on a bad day. This was on a Sunday evening around 7:30 PM when we went. read more
