Except for the food, which is amazing. We had the Sausage & Boudin Board to start, and each item was more delicious than the last. Then had red fish with two sauces (Herb Cream and Satsuma Creole Meuniere; both wonderful), brussel sprouts, and jalapeno cheese grits. Man oh Man was it good! A nice beer selection, coupled with a full bar, rounded out the experience nicely. My only regret is not saving room for Bread Pudding. I was really impressed with this establishment. I was on the way to New Orleans for my culinary adventure and this was my stop for lunch. I ordered the shrimp Po'Boy. The battering of the shrimp was very unique it had a lot of crispness to it and they revealed the secrets but I'm gonna keep my lips sealed and say it was excellent, there was a nice peppery kick to the batter as well. Visiting the area I decided to stop because it seemed to have consistent positive reviews. So since I'm in Louisiana I decide to order authentic cajun food. Boy was I in for a surprise ordering Gumbo that was not only extremely salty but Luke warm. After one taste I return the plate and instead order tuna tartare with avocado which I loved. The stuffed mushrooms were delicious with the homemade creamy ranch dressing. Upon asking for the check they charged me for the gumbo which I had turned in--petty to say the least! If you're in Lafayette, you know there's a lot of good, unhealthy food! We have been eating a lot of boudin and cracklins, so we need to have something light. I had the tuna tartar and it was ok. The soy sauce was so overpowering and salty. The tuna was really low grade because I was spitting out a lot of connective tissue. My honey had the ceasar salad. My partner and I ordered the swordfish special of the day, the crab cake appetizer (as an entree) and the Banana Foster bread pudding dessert and all were great. The crab cake was about the size of two donuts stacked then squashed and enough for a light meal. It was a busy place on Friday night with a 20-minute wait and just one parking space left in their small parking lot when we arrived around 6 pm but we got the last two seats at the bar and didn't have to wait. By the time we finished our dinner around 7 pm, not only was the waiting area packed but many people were also standing in the bar area getting beers while waiting for their table. We'll definitely go back the next time we visit Lafayette. read more

The gumbo had 1 piece of sausage in it. Seriously. It tasted like brown gravy and chicken. However, the crab and corn chowder was very good. I ate at the old location several years ago- and what a difference. Everything used to be fresh and delicious. Not here. I drove from Florida for this. I'm beyond disappointed. There were eight of us at the table and everyone enjoyed their meals, which were brought to the table all at the same time and very quickly. Dash was an excellent waiter as well. So when I went to a place in Lafayette, La., let me tell you, I expected a lot. Unfortunately, I didn't get it. My husband got the crawfish pot pie and I don't think it had enough crawfish. I really enjoyed the crab cake but it had a strange creamy middle and the salad was great. I ordered red fish and it was tough and salty. I won't order that again. At least, it was not a noisy place. Got a cup of gumbo which is of the dark rich roux which is my favorite type. I did enjoy; however, although this is a cup, it's probably the smallest cup portion I ever received. Also, there was just shreds of chicken with a couple of bites of chicken and 1 wafer thin piece of sausage, literally. I think I would have loved the sausage if I had more. Nice little heat, not too much and not too little, at least for me. Also got the redfish, brussels, & jalapeño cheddar grits. It was a nice piece of fish and the sauce (Satsuma Creole Meunière) was really good. Now I love brussels & grits and this was ok. Not bad, but nothing special. The brussel sprouts lacked salt. We use to love this restaurant. It was definitely the place to take visitors. Unfortunately since moving to their new larger location the food quality is not as good. This last time the cajun jerk chicken was dry and tough and the cheese wasn't even melted on top. It seems it often happens when a small place gets bigger- quality goes down. read more
