Okay, I'm going to go against the grain here but I didn't think this meal was exceptional in any way. True we got here middle of the afternoon, and true the main chef was probably not here yet, but the food really wasn't that good. Started off with a Bloody Mary. It tasted like it was made from leftover pickle juice. We ordered what was supposed to be the best crab cakes in Lafayette. When they arrived, they were overcooked on the outside and very greasy. When we put our fork in into one of them, they had a semi liquid center and reminded me of a big pimple that was just popped. For the price they had very little crab meat as well. I ordered the grilled red snapper with a lemon butter sauce and lump crab meat to top it off. When I got the plate, I only got the fish and a side of brussel sprouts which weren't too bad. I had to get the crab meat and the lemon butter sauce on the side because they forgot to put it on top of the fish. These were cold when I received them however. The fried potatoes that I got were very greasy and they were cold as well. My wife ordered the fish tacos. It looked like they made the fish tacos with leftover fish that was simply crumbled up on the bottom of a cold tortilla. My son ordered the filet mignon. He had me try it and it was terribly tough to the point where we had to complain about it. They did give us much better piece however and he enjoyed it. To summarize this place, it's probably pretty good when the main guy is here cooking and taking care of business, but on a lazy Saturday afternoon, stay away from it like the plague! I was so underwhelmed with the food that I'll never be back. It's a shame because it's probably a pretty decent place to eat when the right guy or gal is cooking the food. We are back in Lafayette for the second time from New Zealand and discovered this place on our first visit, so decided to try it again. It is a great place, small and intimate, with good and attentive staff and a good variety of options on the menu. I have been hanging out for a steak and so I gave their sirloin a go and it was perfect. Their side of mash potatoes cooked in crawfish water is delicious. This place was simply incredible. I was not expecting it to be near as good as it was but was so pleasantly surprised. Our waitress, Lauren, was very nice and incredibly attentive. She even got the temperature of the restaurant raised after I asked her why it was so cold inside. The Rouler drink is amazing, definitely worth it. I wanted some real Cajun food and most of the dishes looked great. I ordered the redfish topped with shrimp and the shrimp was very undercooked. Also, the sauce that I ordered on my fish was either missing or applied so sparingly that I did not notice it. The bartender, Micah, was very helpful with the craft beers and the menu. Fun fantastic place, visiting from California we wanted some authentic Cajun cuisine. We had the seafood stuffed mushrooms and Nola shrimp and grits for appetizers. Both were amazing, for entrees I had the crawfish pot pie...recommended by one of the best servers I have ever seen, Amanda, extremely knowledgeable, friendly and entertaining. The pot pie was as advertised, delicious. My wife had mesquite grilled trout topped with crawfish, sides of braised Brussel sprouts and corn maquette choux. Everything was to perfection. We were fortunate to have both Amanda and Lacie serve us as Lacie was being trained by Amanda, they both were top tier, an unforgettable Experience, If we lived local, we would be regulars, I would love to try everything on their menu. My first light Cajun experience. Although a bit pricey, both the food and service were good. I enjoyed the lobster bisque, speckled trout w/ Satsuma Meuniere topped with crab meat, sage sweet potato mash and a mixed greens side salad with the cane syrup vinaigrette dressing. Speckled trout is a very mild fish, as such I would have preferred a bit more seasoning or that the sauce have more flavor. Try it for yourself. I would return to try something different. read more

The kids had chicken nuggets and we had the Jambalaya and Gator dishes which were amazing. Very family friendly and safe atmosphere. I would have driven right past this little place were it not for the reviews. Came in with my husband and 4 kids and had a WONDERFUL experience. Friendly staff, generous portions and OUT OF THIS WORLD food. We were seated quickly and kids were given coloring sheets and Crayola crayons. Our waitress brought out hot garlic bread for the table and kept bringing it. Our kids agreed it was the best garlic bread they'd ever eaten. Kids meals were good and fairly priced (no drink included). My husband had the crawfish etoufee pot pie and I had redfish topped with shrimp and a side of Brussels sprouts. Everything was really good and clearly fresh and homemade. The Cajun ranch for my side salad was phenomenal. My kids borrowed it to dip their French fries in. The only thing I didn't like was the cream sauce that came (thankfully) on the side of my redfish. We didn't order dessert, but I saw the bread pudding at other tables. While this place is a bit off the beaten path, you should definitely make the effort if you are nearby. The bloody mary was the best I had on my trip, including many in nola....it came with pickled green beans and olives and was quite spicy. I got the nola shrimp and grits, and it was phenomenal. The crawfish stuffed mushrooms came with an amazing sauce. My boyfriend got the blackened tilapia and also loved it. I met some family here for lunch a few months ago. I'd never heard of it but some of them frequent the place. It's standard for what you'd expect...the menu isn't highly inspired, but I didn't expect it to be. Oh my goodness!! This is the best meal we've had in Lafayette and the hubby and I have definitely been trying out all the popular spots! We started with crawfish stuffed mushrooms, which were excellent. I opted for the crawfish pot pie (big enough for 2), so yummy, it's basically crawfish étouffée' in a pie...not to be missed! Served with your choice of a side, I went with the jalapeño cheese grits, very good also. The hubs was thrilled with his redfish, which he had topped with lump crabmeat and Creole Meunière sauce. Yes, it tasted as incredible as it sounds! His entree came with two sides, he went with a salad and the country fryers (potatoes), he enjoyed that, too. As if all if that amazing food wasn't enough, our super friendly and knowledgable server, Kira, suggested the Bananas Foster Bread Pudding and we went for it. Started with the gumbo which was delicious, very good sized portion. Had the shrimp & tosso pasta, crawfish pot pie and bbq shrimp pasta. The pot pie and tosso pasta were delicious. The tosso pasta was not consistent however in the amount of meat and shrimp per plate. The bbq pasta must be an acquired taste but we had to send it back, it just wasn't good. They were very accommodating however. We ended the day with the banana foster pudding which was delicious. Prices were affordable, service was good, will be going back. read more

Yelpers were right! This place is the bomb. My husband and I stopped in for lunch. He had a cup of gumbo (small bowl really), and we split the crab cake appetizer and the sausage and boudin appetizer. Both were to die for. Plenty of food for both of us but I could not resist the bananas foster bread pudding. Scrumptious and HUGE! We could barely eat half. The wait staff were terrific and attentive. Traveling as I do, and hungry for dinner, I jumped on ole faithful Yelp and checked out the stars and comments on several local Cajun style food joints. Upon arrival I was greeted with an open door and guided to my table. I studied the appetizer section and quickly noticed the mushroom stuffed with crawfish and shrimp and an amazing melted cheese glaze... the bomb. On to the meal and I couldn't decide, so Jacob my tentative server encouraged the Crawfish Etouffee pot pie and then I added shrimp as a topper.. after it cooled a bit my taste buds loved it and I didn't stop until I was complete :). We had a very positive experience at Bon Temps Grill! The food was very good and the service was excellent. We split a boudin platter as an appetizer, all were very satisfied with our meals, and split a dessert as well. We asked our waitress for recommendations on things to do in the area, and she went out of her way to look things up for us and ask other staff members for their suggestions. Thanks to the Yelp reviews, we decided to give this place a chance. So glad we did! The food is top notch; fresh seafood, tasty sausage and boudin, fall off the bone ribs. I was in food heaven tasting all the wonderful things in front of me. (We got the Boucherie Board for 2. Which is great if you can't decide on what to pick!) It was so hard to pick a favorite but I could eat up the tuna and BBQ shrimp all day. I can't wait to be in Lafayette again so I can try something else from here. We've been here twice while visiting family in Lafayette. The food is delicious, portions are amazing, and service is great without feeling constantly interrupted. Highly recommend the braised short rib, and to start, the sausage/boudin board. Come hungry! Everything each individual in our party has ordered was extremely tasty and well-prepared. This is one of those places where you go in and you know you'll be full from some alright food. I was definitely pleasantly surprised. The food was incredible! I ate everything and my girlfriend might have some fork marks on her hand from trying to steal some... I will definitely be back! I really wanted to love this place but I just couldn't. Service was great: friendly and welcoming. It was the food. It was prepared well and it was clear that they took the time to carefully prepare the dishes but..... I ordered their signature crab cake and the a gumbo, and here are my thoughts. The crab cake was made with crab mixed with a gloppy bechamel sauce that drowned the taste of the crab. The coating made from crushed corn flakes and nuts only confused the taste profile even more. The best part of it was the lumps of real crab on top as a garnish. It was exceptional! If they had made a simple crab cake out of that without all the other meddlesome ingredients, it would've been stellar. Next, I had a chicken and andouille sausage gumbo that was good with one exception: the sausage was made with Steen's syrup that gave it a slightly sweet taste. Gumbo has always been a savory dish, so why confuse it with the sweet overtone? It clearly took away from the dark roux and the perfectly cooked chicken. Again, why meddle with a simple but delectable recipe? So...., maybe I'm being too critical but I guess I don't get it. Maybe if you've eaten these recipes all of your life and you're looking for a twist, this would appeal to you. For me, I was just left with disappointment. 5 stars for service, 5 stars for a cute and clean establishment, 3 stars for food. YMMV. read more

We stopped here 4 years ago and today. Same excellent food and a fair price. Etouffee pies are amazing and so is the bread pudding which is called bananas foster on the menu.
