Everything has good flavor here although a little over spiced and over priced for what you get. The best things are their fried baskets. I've ordered the boiled seafood before and ordered a pound of crawfish to go. It didn't look like a pound and have wondered in the past about their measurements. Oh my this place looks like a "hole in the wall", but the food is very unique and delicious. The service is great the atmosphere is a vibe...and the smoked crab....keeps me coming back. I love this place. It's a very small, maybe 15 tables total that I saw. It definitely gives French quarter vibes, so cute, but a little rugged lol. The food was great. We tried a variety of things and every single thing we got was good. Service was nice, considering our table wasn't ready so we opted to sit at a high table close to the bar. I went seeking the shrimp po-boy and hush puppies. Right off the bat, I was very pleased with the service I received from the young staff in the front of the house. So Bon Ton has been bookmarked for some time in my yelp account and for some strange reason I never made it until one Friday in December for their Sippin Santa holiday pop up bar. I'm a big fan of Miracle on Monroe for the holiday cocktails but Bon Ton takes the lead with the food. Everything I ate was absolutely delicious and perfectly seasoned. I loved the tiki Santa theme and the place was very cheesy decorated which was fantastic, it reminded me of being in the bar in fear and loathing in Las Vegas but much more vibrant. The music was great, comfy booths to sit in that are very roomy, cool vibe, nice servers and very nice tunes playing. I tried one of the holiday cocktails and it was fruity and delicious. I ordered a small shrimp basket with fries and it also came with 2 hush puppies. I was very surprised by the size, it was so filling and the shrimp were very large. Every item in that basket had flavor....oh my gosh, it was so good!! The holiday pop up bars are leaving until next year but I will definitely be back at Bon Ton before that time to try more of their menu items. This was a new spot to try after reading their menu and hearing how they have a seafood/New Orleans blend. Reservations are encouraged. Although the website hadn't been updated, they are open for business. Came on a Friday night and it was a safe dining experience. The ambience is definitely New Orleans style. They had a great music selection. The only drawback for me was it was too dark for dining. I like to see my food. The service was great. Our server Kevin made great recommendations from their drink menu. My dining partner had their New Orleans Hurricane. It looked great but I didn't try it. We ordered their fried seafood basket and we were not disappointed. The catfish and oysters were fried and seasoned to perfection. They give you a great amount of food. We also had the margaritas which were pricey for the amount but tasty nonetheless. My only complaint was the service! It seems they were understaffed but listen, your attitude goes a long way. Went to Bon Ton for Father's Day today and totally enjoyed it. I had the gumbo appetizer, which was very tasty and just right spicy a little on the hot side. I had the etouffe with crawfish and noticed a little of the Vietnamese influence and totally enjoyed it. Bon Ton will ace it when it comes to vibes and service. But, if you're looking for great creole or cajun food, Bon Ton probably isn't going to give you your fix. I went on a Saturday during crawfish season, as I had heard that Bon Ton was the place to get great boiled crawfish. I didn't hear wrong, exactly. Bon Ton does have decent boiled, Cajun style crawfish. But..they aren't great. The flavor is kinda there (ok spice and flavor) but the crawfish texture was slightly rubbery. So maybe the crawfish were boiled way earlier in the day, then re-heated in a microwave? Not sure, but if you're a crawfish aficionado, Bon Ton may come through in a pinch, but isn't likely to fully satisfy a crawfish craving. I don't know exactly what altered the texture, but they just missed the mark. read more

I think that someone must have played a terrible prank on the kitchen staff here and must have slightly loosened the salt shaker tops - such that when the chef went to salt the food, all its contents fell into the pot. It's genuinely, so salty, it's almost inedible. I ordered the boiled peanuts and fried oysters. Regretfully, I made my oysters a basket, and the salt overload was just too much for me to handle. My friends ordered the oyster Po boy and the crawfish. We all agreed the boiled peanuts alone were too salty. However, my friend with the oyster Po boy was thankful she ordered it because the bread helped offset the salt. However, the oysters in her sandwich were a lot spicier than she expected. OVERALL: Bon Ton is a really cool concept, but I think the details need refining. It seems like the quality is hit or miss depending on the night and what you order. I would give it another shot but am not rushing back. PARKING: Oh my god a nightmare. The lot fills up quickly, you cannot street park on side streets after 5PM (resident only), and you can't park at Mary Mac's. Your only option if you can't get in their lot is to park somewhere on the side of Ponce. We spent 20 mins trying to find parking. Plan accordingly! Or Uber! FOOD: I've sampled a lot, and here are my takes for each. - The crispy chicken is a must! So tasty, lots of herbs! - If you like them, the hush puppies are great as a side! - The papaya salad we ordered either came undressed as a mistake, or it was not good. There were very few, super finely chopped herbs (adding no flavor), no peanuts, and no evidence of sauce? We meant to ask the waitress, but didn't get a chance. - Meatballs are good but nothing special. The sauce that comes with is what would distinguish the dish from-- except it's too thin to grab the meat! We ended up pouring it over the papaya salad. - Buford hwy style oyster/catfish po boy we're both good, but absolutely not numbing spicy from the szechuan oil, or spicy at all. Again, the seafood itself was tasty, but not what I expected. - Cauliflower falafel banh mi was the only really veg-friendly item on the menu, and it contains nuts despite not being labeled... It also was lackluster. Ours came as just the patty, with very very few herbs, no jalapeños, etc. Nothing like a banh mi. - In the future, I would stick to a seafood boil or fried seafood here. DRINKS: All cocktails ordered were tasty! Lots of options, mostly classic cocktails with a spin of some sort. VIBE + SERVICE: Incredible. Everyone's friendly, the decor is trendy and has a sort of "underground" feel with the dark lighting against neon + tiki decor. First red flag here: A place advertising Louisiana food but no gumbo. Crawfish sandwich: while very generous with the crawfish, the meat was cold, flaccid and drenched in a flavorless sauce. Crabcakes were mushy and was there crab? I couldn't tell. The blackened catfish banh mi was flavorful, but fish was not fresh: it was soft, and not the firm texture that fresh catfish should be. My husband had been wanting to come to this place for weeks for his birthday. We made it a pint to travel on a Sunday over an hour to make sure we made it happen. OMG what a mistake! We ordered our food (a catfish po-boy, a shrimp po-boy, 2 burgers, Bonton fries, and Mac and cheese. Listen it was overpriced and unflavorful. I wanted the crab fingers (which are a pretty frequent item all over their menu) they were out of crab fingers or any crab! I asked if I could get some fresh fries, I never received them! The waitress never said a thing! She came back to the table to let me know that the fries were removed. Absolutely they were because I never received them!? My son (who eats everything) barely touched his Mac n cheese. My kids enjoyed the burgers ($12 Jo the burger only) however it was so small. Really the size of a kids meal burger but on a standard menu. I don't know if we came on an off day or what but it was pretty empty and the food was lackluster! So they have an automatic tip of 20% no matter what size party you have. We asked if our tip could be removed and we provide our own gratuity based on our overall experience. Besides my husband wanted this for weeks and it was a let down! After we requested this the manager came over and debated with a horrible attitude. She proceeded to debate with us about why she would not remove the gratuity and making excuses for the poor overall experience and food! She stood over us and berated us for not telling her step by step on each item of food we did not like! All because we only asked that she remove the gratuity. We didn't ask for any food to be removed were were prepared to pay as agreed! We let her know we were unwilling to pay the gratuity. She then stormed off and said "don't pay then". The hostess who was definitely more mild came over and we gave her the cash for the meal. Not sure if it was a bad day, bad manager, or what but the overall experience was terrible and one we will never forget as a family. read more

Had a wonderful time and meal here. I've been across the street to Mary Mac's about a million times, but this was my first time here. I have noticed the brightly colored building before though. I'm thinking that their name should be placed more conspicuously by the door instead of on the side of the building (facing the parking lot). Speaking of parking lot, they have a free one and it is small. However, since we went on an early weekday night, we were able to easily park in it. The interior is cool and cozy. I liked it a lot. We were seated at a two top, but I requested to move because I felt a wicked draft. We just popped over to the next table and it was no problem. Our server was Christopher and he was wonderful. His attentiveness was perfect and he made the evening go swell. We really enjoyed the food. I had never had smoked crab legs, so that was a must try. I could taste the nice smokey flavor; however, I found them just a bit salty. They were good never-the-less. The po boy was abundant with juicy shrimp and great bread; a winner for sure. The smoke Gouda mac & cheese with crawfish won my heart. It was delicious. Also a star, the crab cake. It was loaded with plenty of crab and not a whole bunch of fillers. A mouthful of it with the pickled veggies that were served along side was perfect. The hush puppies were just okay. The drinks were on point. I will say that it is time to get the cloth chairs and that rug couch cleaned. I can imagine it would be difficult to keep that up. The chairs were quite comfy though. Also, I was quite annoyed when Open Table sent me an email that I didn't keep my reservation, which means that they (Bon Ton) didn't do something properly. The food here is really good. Had the fried feast with some friends which included blackened catfish, fried crawfish/shrimp/oysters, fried and hush puppies. The cocktails are very good here too. Recommend the michelata. The side cold noodles were good as well. I didn't try the gumbo but the only complaint was that it was a very small portion for the price but overall had a great experience and thought most of the items were reasonably priced. My husband and I walked in for a reservation and was seated immediately, yet every waiter walked past us for 20 minutes. No one asked if we were ok, if we wanted water, if we wanted apps, drinks, nothing. Everyone walked past our table multiple times with out so much as a hello. Even when making eye contact with waiters/waitresses, they actively ignored me. I waited 20 mins before speaking to a random staff person who walked by and asked him if anyone was going to give us service. The food is lack luster at best. For a restaurant that boasts Cajun and Vietnamese fusion, you would expect each dish to be bursting with flavor. Every dish was poorly seasoned, my drink was watered down (especially given the price). I did not finish my food and there is a mandatory 20% gratuity, which is high given the poor service I received. The only upside to this restaurant is that there is a Krispy Kreme down the street. Went to Bon ton tonight to celebrate my husband birthday. It started off ok... the waitress was nice I guess. Ordered a Nashville shrimp po-boy and received a fish po-boy. They then proceeded to bring me a regular shrimp po-boy mind you I ordered a Nashville poboy. I asked waitress did sauce come on the Nashville poboy she says yes. I flash my light on my sandwich and asked do you see any sauce....Waitress says no. She then goes to the back and brings me sauce to make my regular shrimp poboy a Nashville hot po boy. At this point I'm hungry and frustrated. I pick over my food and asked for the check. Check comes out and they charge me for 2 poboys you got to be kidding right. Walk to the front let them know it has two poboy's..... I only had one and it was not what I ordered. They remove the other poboy and I pay and leave. Now this is where I feel like customer service would have been important. When I received my bill you all should have discounted my ticket. You got my order wrong twice.
