I don't go out to eat a lot but I enjoy sitting at a good bar for drinks and their bar has lots of good options to try out as well as good service and people watching. They decorate for Mardi Gras and Christmas which is fun, and the general decor is cosy and eccelctic. read more

So I have only been to a hand full of restaurants since things have opened back up. So on the day that I visited my friend and I were restaurant hopping (I food blog @ the hungry_fashionista_atl on IG). So we were excited to try this place. So have to order and pay at the counter before you were seated. Once we were seated we were sorta forgotten about. It was only about 5 people in the restaurant at the time we went. We got our food before we even got anything to drink. We had to ask for water and silverware on separate occasions so that was a little frustrating. This was my first time out since social distancing guidelines have been put in place, and I will say this restaurant did a pretty good job at enforcing this. Upon entry into the restaurant, you have to wear a masks when entering. They also offer hand sanitizer to guests as well. I had mine own mask, but they even give away masks to customers for free which I appreciated. There's a limited capacity enforced so we had to wait to be seated but not too long, maybe 10 minutes of that. We ordered our food & drinks at the front and then we were seated. The restaurant has an eclectic feel which I thought was cool, nicely decorated. I ordered the a rum punch type of drink and it was pretty good! My friends and I agreed that the drinks were pretty strong so that was a plus. For my meal I ordered the shrimp po boy with sweet potato fries and I was so impressed! The last time I've had a po boy was in New Orleans and this one definitely made me feel nostalgia. The shrimp was seasoned and fried perfectly. I really love the unique Cajun-Viet mix the restaurant had explored. It's a cool combination that I really haven't seen. Now that's out of the way - I did have some reservations in a couple of areas. The layout of the restaurant is slightly unorthodox which may have not been in their control, but that combined with poor lighting makes it kind of hard to navigate. Watch your step! The food pretty good and had interesting flavors as per the cool fusion they were doing, but I did believe it was a tad bit salty. And the last gripe for me was the fact that tip was already applied for parties of 6+ but they still slow tip on receipts. We were looking for a cute brunch place last minute and glad we found this spot, it was pretty easy to make a reservation, and I love that they have a free parking lot which can be rare downtown! The menu is expansive with vegan options, and even mocktails. Cajun Vietnamese is a cool combo concept and did not disappoint. We had the falafel banh mi, fries, crawfish etouffee and Mac and cheese. You guys!!! My friend had been raving about Bon Ton for months, and we finally made it over there last weekend. I didn't realize it was a seafood spot, even though he always talked about the smoked crab legs. I just assumed it was a specialty. We both had MaiTai to drink. I ordered the fried shrimp basket with fries AND the smoked crab legs (your sis didn't come to play that day LOL). The basket comes with hush puppies as well, which is a fav of mine. Now, to be fair, I ordered two meals bc I wasn't sure if I'd like the smoked crab legs as im not big on smoked foods. GAME CHANGER!!!! I don't know if I ever want a regular boil again. This is a love affair I never knew I needed. . Seriously, they were so well seasoned and delicious. I didn't need the butter it came with at all. Now, they were pricey. Market price is listed and the server told me beforehand to make sure I still wanted them. They were $45 that day for just the crabs. So be prepared as you all know market price fluctuates. Well worth the $45 IMO. The fries were super good, as well as the hushpuppies. I'm taking away 1 star bc the shrimp was a little over cooked, but still seasoned well. I would def order any of these items again. I did order another drink...no matter what, I'll never be to good for a pina colada. This was freshly mixed and I can tell they used real coconut milk. Bon Ton was recommended to me by an old coworker in the Before Times, and I'm only just now making it there. But it was worth the wait, thanks Former Colleague! A Vietnamese-Cajun mashup isn't a type of restaurant you see all the time, that's for sure. Bon Ton's definitely a cool hip spot. It's mostly a dinner joint but open for lunch Friday through Sunday. The woman at the register/host stand was really helpful and patiently answered my menu questions. I placed an order to go, and it was ready in about 15 minutes. The Bon Ton Rice Bowl ($14) and the Spicy Jicama & Papaya Salad ($6 for a small) were really satisfying in both taste and size and are especially ideal if you're a fan of pickled veggies. There were a lot of 'em! Bon Ton was accommodating and removed cilantro and chili peppers from the salad at my request. I selected fried shrimp for my rice bowl; other options were catfish, meatballs, and falafel. The tasty fried shrimp survived the journey to my home intact, and there were a reasonable amount of them too. The parking lot is terrifying. It's a tight L-shape cornering the building and is complete with narrow spaces and many vehicles filling said spaces. And if you're lucky, some random man will be yelling loudly at the entrance. Having a compact car is recommended. But at least there's even a free lot for customers--this area is challenging for parking due to strict rules for the adjacent neighborhood, if I recall. read more

Not sure why I had never heard of Bon Ton till my coworker who was in town suggested that we go. This restaurant replaced another restaurant that I used to frequent some years back and after my first visit here I decided I would be back. Parking is not the best, there is a parking lot for this restaurant but it fills up fast if they are busy. There is also street Parking for a fee till 10pm in front of the restaurant. Do not park in the neighborhood if you don't live there and have a permit, there are signs and your car will get a boot if you park in a permit zone only area. The ambiance is eclectic and fun, definitely different from any restaurant I've been to in Atlanta. The music was up beat and everyone seems to have a good time here. Due to the long wait for a table my 2 companions and I were seated at the bar. I had a Margarita and one of my friends ordered a specialty drink which looked like a snowball. There is a vast selection of drinks, and they were good. I ordered the shrimp burger which is kinda small and comes alone with no sides added so if you are hungry I would suggest adding sides. My shrimp burger was the best I've had to date, it was so flavorful and everything on it paired perfectly. We ordered sides to share, the mac and cheese, five spice broccoli, and garlic green beans. This is where Tiki and classic cocktails meet down home Louisana cooking. This is one of the reasons I love Mid-town Atlanta. This hot spot for cocktails and southern comfort food is no frills on decor, (think old school living room at your aunt's house), but is none short on personality and atmosphere. My bartender Keyetta was an absolute great host. She took her time to walk me through the cocktail options that ranged from original, tiki to classic cocktails. They even have a spiked Vietnamese frozen coffee that was definitely a highlight. I started with some sides from the menu, I had every intention of eating a main course, after some small bites. The sides of beans and rice, gumbo, and poutine proved to be very filling and I couldn't order anymore to eat, but definitely wanted to have a few more of Keyetta's cocktails. The food was definitely inspired by some traditional home cooking as it was flavorful and balanced in its approach to spice. I really wish I could have got to a Po'Boy or seafood boil, but the sides were just too much. If they were any indication of what the other food selections were like, I will definitely be back to have some. I decided on some off menu selections for my next cocktails and allowed Keyetta to create a daiquiri riff with a very esoteric rum (auricle I believe) they had featured on the backbar. They obviously use fresh juices here, as the daiquiri was very crisp and refreshing. Then, after a round of shots with my comrades at the bar, I think I was ready for another one of those frozen coffees. Bonton is a great place. I was impressed by the friendly staff, the music (playlist was classic funk to modern rock) and the food was more than comforting. I had been dreaming about having the charbroiled crab claws, but was sadly disappointed when I was told by the waitress they were sold out. I had a reservation for Friday night at 8:15pm and thought since Friday evenings are busy that they'd have them. I ordered the Bon Ton Bahn Mi and the shrimp po'boy. We were seated at a 2-by next to the large window but didn't really feel like we were in the way of passing traffic. It's a great seat. Affords a nice view of the local Atlanta neighborhood. I had a blackened catfish banh mi which was great. Creamy and spicy. Hit all the right notes. I had a side of rice and beans, too. It was pretty good. I'm glad I went with the half sandwich because it was all very filling. I think the real highlight, at least for me, was the poutine. Not your traditional Canadian variety. It's served as charbroiled sweet potato fries, which gives a great sweet and smoky profile. The andouille gravy just takes it right up. I loved it... but it's rich. You'll feel it. Anyway, nice spot. I went with a party of 3 on the Monday before Christmas for the Sippin' Santa pop-up at 7:00 pm. We were going to eat dinner at Bon Ton, but there was an hour and a half wait, so we walked to Torched Hop to eat dinner and then walked back to Bon Ton to get drinks. The only downside is that when we put our names on the waitlist, they wouldn't take our phone number to text us. They told us a wait time, but we had to be there in person to see if our table was ready. Maybe it's different when it's not Sippin' Santa? We got the Papa Noel, Festivus Flip, and Shaka Kalikimaka. All were amazing!! My favorite was the Papa Noel. We also tried the Christmas Eve of Destruction, but it was heavy on the nutmeg, so stay away if you're not a fan of nutmeg. They go all out with the decorations for Christmas. It is so festive. There are lights everywhere. Even the bathroom is decorated! The pens for signing the checks are candy canes. They seriously thought of every detail. I'm sad that we didn't get any food because I've heard amazing things. So I'll definitely be back to try the food and get the complete Bon Ton experience. read more

I finally found it! My favorite sandwich in Atlanta. You MUST try the shrimp burger. MUST. When I saw it I just thought, wow this is small, glad I got some sides but it is SO rich and fulfilling I couldn't even finish it! I reluctantly offered everyone else a bite to finish the rest even though I knew I'd be thinking about those missed bites later. It was too good not to let everyone try though! The sauce, texture and flavor.. trust me on this and order it. My friend got the smoked crab legs which I didn't try but we fought over which was best thing on the menu, mine or hers. The shrimp po boy is delicious and it's awesome they have a little mini sandwich, but after trying the shrimp burger it's hard to think I'll ever order other things again... The crawfish Mac and cheese was ok.. The noodles were a bit too al debate for my taste and I do like a saucier pour but I loved the spice and flavor in it. The corn nuggets were creamy and delicious and will be my go to side! My biggest downside was that I called at 930 for a to go order and they said it was too late even though they close at 11.. Their Bahn mi sandwiches were memorable as well as their addictive mac & cheese topped with spicy crawfish. The pound of steamed snow crab legs were abundantly filled with sweet crab meat and the boiled crawfish had a right amount of spice and were nice size too. Their steamed Mussels were plump and plentiful as well and loved how massive their crab cakes entree was. Oh and they have the most addictive French fries!!!! I've been wanting to check out Bon Ton for ages and got the opportunity to stop in for drinks and a snack before a late dinner. This restaurant used to be Top Flr, if I'm not mistaken. I hadn't realized until GPS guided me here. Parking is still as bad (on a Saturday night) as ever but I found some street parking nearby. We sat at the bar since we weren't planning on staying long. I ordered the crawfish Mac and cheese and my friend ordered the crab cake app. And since I was feeling a little warm from my walk from my parking spot a whiles away, I ordered a large frozen ward six cup, which comes in a cool color changing cup based on the temperature of the cup. It's only available in the large, and if I remember correctly, if you bring the cup back in during your next visit, you get a slight discount on a "refill." The Frozen Ward Six Cup is sweet and tasty but also very potent thanks to that vodka! I also really liked how rich and decadent the savory smoked Gouda crawfish Mac and cheese was! Crab cake was also pretty flavorful, although nothing mind blowing. Bon Ton is a unique and interesting restaurant and bar. It's a combination of New Orleans, Louisiana style, Cajun/Creole, Vietnamese, seafood, and tiki bar all rolled into one. There's nothing else quite like it in Atlanta. This is a trendy and hip place. When it comes down to it, the food and service are very good. I had a great time here. Bon Ton was created by the owners of Midtown's The Lawrence (New American, contemporary Southern) and the owner of Buford Highway's Crawfish Shack Seafood (Cajun seafood, Vietnamese), hence the fusion of culinary styles. The restaurant opened in February 2017. It replaced Top Flr which closed in November 2015 (https://bit.ly/2RRqsin). The business shares a parking lot with Papi's. When we showed up for lunch on a Saturday at 12pm, there were several open spots. However, the lot filled up quick. Multiple people were looking for/waiting on spots when we left. Street parking is available in the immediate vicinity, but you'll want to pay attention to street signs to make sure you can park on certain stretches at certain times. The restaurant is stylish and has a hipster vibe. The business has a distinct, solid-pink-colored exterior. Inside, there's a cool retro-looking bar and a dining room that glows red from the restaurant's often-photographed "Fancy Service" neon sign. Even their Instagram account goes against the grain with all sorts of weird posts: https://www.instagram.com/bontonatlanta/. Starters ($4-14 each) run the gamut from sweet and spicy cold noodles ($7) to charbroiled poutine ($8). Like standard Cajun seafood restaurants, they feature raw oysters (described as "artisan Gulf oysters," 6 for $14 or 12 for $26), boiled seafood and fried seafood. Boiled seafood is sold at market price at includes crawfish, snow crab, king crab, mussels, clams, and jumbo shrimp. Fried seafood runs anywhere from $10-11 for a single order to $19-22 for a double, +$4 for a basket with Cajun fries and hush puppies. They offer sandwiches too, but more than just po' boys. They've got crab cake sandwiches ($14), Nashville hot oyster rolls ($14), banh mis (Vietnamese sandwiches) like the blackened catfish banh mi and the spicy shrimp banh mi (half $8, whole $12), and more. There are also entrees like smoked snow crab and a $99 "Crabstravaganza" that comes with over 3 pounds of shellfish plus sausage and sides. There's only one lunch special. It consists of half a house po' boy, chips, and soda for $10. When we visited, the brunch menu was offered. It had several interesting items like the Vietnamese pancake banh xeo ($8) and a Chinese five spice shrimp and grits ($15). They have quite the drink menu too with all sorts of cocktails, beer, and wine plus a few interesting non-alcoholic beverages too. Here's what we had: * Vietnamese iced coffee ($5 each) - chicory coffee cold brew, sweetened condensed milk, coconut cream powder, bitters * Lo lat rolls ($8) - aromatic ground beef, betel leaves * Artisan Gulf oysters served with fancy mignonette (dozen for $26) * Smoked Gouda mac & cheese ($5) * Moules frites ($18) - 1 lb. mussels, bacon, shallots, onion, cilantro, basil, lemon, Cajun fries * Vietnamese omelet banh mi ($8) - savory herb omelet, toasted baguette, pickled vegetables, cilantro, fresh jalapenos * Fried hand pie ($5) * King cake Overall, I enjoyed everything. Everything was tasty and there wasn't a single bad item. My favorites were the lo lat rolls, oysters, and Vietnamese omelet banh mi. The king cake for dessert was pretty awesome too (no baby inside though). The lo lat rolls were terrific. They were small (supposed to be) and packed with savory flavor. They were topped with cilantro, spring onion, crushed peanuts, and black and white sesame seeds, and served with a side of nuoc mam (Vietnamese fish sauce) with red pepper flakes. The Gulf oysters were great. They tasted fresh and clean with a mild brine. Two of the oysters had baby crabs on them - something I've never seen in all my years of eating raw oysters. This wasn't a big deal to us. The oysters were replaced with three new oysters so we ended up getting a baker's dozen. The Vietnamese omelet banh mi was a bit messy to eat, but very delicious. It was basically an omelet sandwich with the flavor profile of a traditional banh mi. Buttery and satisfying. Unlike some banh mis which utilize a hard baguette, this banh mi had pretty soft bread. If you like mussels, order the moules frites (mussels and fries). It's fantastic. The mussels were fine quality and served in a rich sauce that was so yummy and addictive that almost anything went well dipped in it, even the fries. The fries were thick-cut and filling; the Cajun seasoning flavorful. I recommend the king cake if they have it and the fried hand pie too. The latter had a wonderfully flaky pastry crust and a sweet and delectable filling. As for the Vietnamese coffee, it was OK. It wasn't the best I've had, but it served its purpose. Hip happy friendly vibes ooze throughout this place. I am writing this after visiting it a couple of times. We sat at the bar and had fantastic service and food the first time we were here, the second time we came it was just ok service and food. Hence the four stars instead of five. Yes, it was obvious enough of a difference that I would have update my review. I'm only going to write about the first visit as I only have pics for it. I began the evening with a tasty old fashioned. It was really good, but not my usual adventurous drink picks so for my next drink I had the frozen Ward Six Cup and I was oh so happy I made the switch. I love my old fashion, but with a cocktail menu as cool as this one I should be ashamed of myself. We arrived very hungry. We started with the crab cake and pickled vegetable app. It was ALL crab meat and so so tasty. We had a hard time picking our sandwiches so got two halves. I appreciate the option of halves instead of whole sandwiches. The halves (seemed like more than 6 inches) are very large and so I can't imagine a whole sandwich; it must be massive. We got the cauliflower falafel Banh-Mi and Blackened Catfish Banh-Mi. The Blackened catfish was our flavorite! At some point in time I want to try the cajun shrimp burger, Nashville hot oyster and house Po-boy catfish or shrimp sandwich. They have a lot of delicious side options, but if you have read any of my reviews then you know I will ALWAYS pick mac and cheese. We've been passed #BonTonAtlanta quite a few times on our way to Papi's but this time it was our 6 year old who made the decision for us to try it and we have to give her credit because it was a good decision. She wanted to have an "outdoor picnic" and their ability to have #outdoordining made the choice very easy. In this #Covid19 dining era we are in a restaurants ability to offer #outdoordining year round can add so much to a customers dining experience. Let me first start by saying the The Frozen Ward Six Cup on ice was EVERYTHING! I'm not sure why I played myself and ordered a small. Probably because I wasn't sure if I was going to like it but when I ordered my 2nd one I should have ordered a LARGE! We started off with some #CornNuggets which had a sweet taste that we all enjoyed. I decided to have the Gumbo dinner for 2 because I knew I would want to take the rest home for later. The gumbo had good flavor but I wish it had more seafood in it. My husband had the Cajun Shrimp Burger. For my daughter they did not have a kids menu so we ordered her Fried Chicken and Fries. We thought she would take some home but she liked it so much that she ate it all and kept reminding us that it was HER chicken. Their outdoor seating is very cute. The tables are light pink and lavender with large straw umbrellas for shade. Everyone working was super nice. Our waitress was friendly, chatty, and knowledgeable about the dishes. When the owner heard that it was our first time coming in, he gave us some boiled peanuts on the house and shared how he got the inspiration to start the restaurant. As for the food, I've only ever had plain or salted boiled peanuts, so the well-seasoned boiled peanuts soaked in a seafood jus was a big step up. The catfish in the po'boy practically melts away in your mouth. I love the XO Boil Sauce. It's sweet, tastes similar to honey garlic sauce, and goes really well with the Nashville Hot flavor. If I wasn't talking in between bites, I'd have wolfed the po'boy down so quickly. The mac and cheese was really rich and creamy. Adding crawfish to it is an extra $2. Shells are the best because they can hold a lot of cheese. read more

Iiiiiiiii loved Bon Ton. The food was amazing. The atmosphere is amazing. The drinks were OUTSTANDING. We had one of the seafood platters and it didn't disappoint. My companion and I had only intended to go there for drinks but we couldn't resist. So good. Highly recommend this place. Take a date here and enjoy the ambiance. Go with a friend and get drunk, talk smack, and laugh until you fall off your stool. The vibes here are immaculate. read more

Tasteless gentlemen cocktail - tropical drink Chargrilled oysters- ordered but they ran out. So disappointed! Fried oysters- good Rice bowl with catfish- liked good but so salty we couldn't eat it. Fries and hush puppies- also salty. I was so disappointed overall. This place has good reviews so not sure why I'm leaving feeling I had a bowl full of salt. read more

This place is amongst my Atlanta favorites! Their food is a fun spin on a few different styles and never disappoints. I love sitting at the bar to look at all of the cool artwork and photos. We recommend starting here for dinner then making your way upstairs to their cocktail bar, Waiting Room, for a fun date night or girls night that can't be beat. read more

Continuing my tour in the south, had to hit up a well recommended seafood spot. I've never has crawfish before so i was excited to try it! Omg the food was AMAZING Had the boiled peanuts to start followed by char grilled oysters yumm So seasoned with butter and cheese total mouthgasm. Next i had the mixed greens salad and a crab cake appetizer, basically the size of a small pancake! Only one downside was our waitress was a little distracted and informed us that the drink with a shorty combo wasn't available, even though we saw a few other tables doing it. But the smoked crab was incredible ! Never tasted flavors like that before... must try for seafood lovers !! read more
