We had a solid experience dining here. We kind of came in a little under an hour and a half before close. They were really graceful to accommodate a party of 6 adults and a toddler (and a newborn). They have plenty of room in the dining area, and they didn't have other customers dining in anyways. They have plenty of chairs and tables inside. When the weather is nicer, they also have a couple tables with chairs outside as well. They had a bunch of online orders and takeaways while we were in there. It wasn't a surprise when our food took some time to come out. They did bring out our food as they got done, which was nice cuz we got to munch on something while waiting for the other dishes. I know some people don't like that, but we were hungry and needed something so we didn't mind that each dish came out as it finished cooking. We ordered: 2 bulgogis, 2 chicken fried rice, bulgogi fries, bibimbap and 2 sides of steamed rice. For drinks, I got a peach soju and the rest of the party stuck to water and/or soda. Service was attentive and very friendly. The host and the manager came by to see how everything was going. The food was all hot and flavorful. I ordered the soy chicken tacos and they were a nice size. Not tiny like I thought they'd be. If you don't really like soy sauce, don't get them. The ambiance was cool. It's not a big place, majority of the orders were to go. My tacos came out about 15 min after my family's food which wasn't ideal but we had appetizers so I wasn't there watching them eat. Thought I would give this place a try during some business travel. It looks to be located in a high end shopping plaza. Given the posh environment, I was a little taken aback to enter a completely empty restaurant at 7 pm on a Tuesday night. Other than two hosts I was the only person in the front of the restaurant. Decor is sparse and the floor was unusually sticky concrete. Be prepared for lots of K-Pop which I guess fits. I decided to start with the fried octopus Takoyaki appetizer. This wasn't quite what I expected. It was quite gooey, and not an entirely enjoyable texture. (Hot snot?) But I found it grew on me a bit and I did eat it all. That said I would probably skip it in the future. Nothing against the restaurant, it just wasn't wonderful for me. Then I followed it up with a small wings (10) split between soy garlic and spicy. This was my first time trying Korean fried chicken. I think 10 wings was a bit much for me, though I admit I ate 9. A small with 6 or 8 would be more welcome. The soy garlic was pleasant but the spicy was just a little too much heat over time. The wings came with coleslaw which provided some much needed cooling after the heat of the wings. I think, in the end, I would have enjoyed the wings more without any sauce. They had a nice crisp and flavor to them. The two sauces were good but I don't think I'd seek them out again, either. I did watch 4 people come in for takeout and one group of 3 arrived before I finished. Not a good start to an evening for this business. No real complaints from me but no real excitement either. Disappointing Experience (3/27)! I've been to other Bonchon locations, but this one fell short. The wings were soggy instead of crispy, and the flavors were off. The spicy wings were ridiculously hot--so much that my throat felt swollen and my tongue went numb. Ate half of a spicy wing and couldn't eat the rest of the meal! The waiter lingered, almost amused, and claimed he could handle them but refused when I offered one. The manager replaced them without us asking with soy garlic, but by then, I couldn't eat. Last Sunday I came here to grab a bite to eat. I walked in and waited at the host stand but no one came. I called out. No response. I look towards the bar and in the back is a child watching tv and eating rice and chicken. Lol I look at the kid. The kid looks back at me. Lol I walk further back and call out. At this point, I'm hungry and cranky so I walk into the kitchen. Finally I find someone and she says someone will be out momentarily. By the time I walk back to the front another customer has come in to check on their order and an employee comes up behind me to take my order. I order a little of everything and it was all fresh. I eat here all the time with my boyfriend and it has always been great every time. I can tell they are more of a takeout restaurant but the dining experience was still pretty good, very chill environment. I really want to love this Bon Chon but it just falls short. My buddy and I came in to grab lunch to go this weekend. When we walked in it was empty which was surprising for lunch time on a weekend. We went up to the counter to order and my shoe got stuck on the carpet. It was so stuck that I thought that I had gum on my shoe. Once I got my foot up I realized the carpet was soaked with something super sticky. I ordered boneless wings and he got bone in wings with a side of fried rice. We asked if we could get extra sauce on the side and then I think the owner told us no but he could have them put on extra sauce on the wings. We both thought that sounded perfect! Once we got back to my place we both were disappointed that our wings were almost free of seasoning sauce. If you look at the picture there is no sauce on the paper in the box. If this is extra sauce I would hate to see what regular looks like. We came to this location last weekend, during the Christmas Tree Lighting at the Village of Leesburg. We were pleasantly surprised to see that it was open (after having seen it closed from prior visits to the area), & my Mom, who LOVES Bonchon, suggested we go there for dinner & off we went. Let me just say, that I was a little hesitant at first because previous reviews of the location weren't exactly forthcoming (READ: those were all reviews from when it was under OLD MGMT & then they closed) but any doubts I had were all dashed when we entered through the door. My family & I were greeted v warmly & got seated right away. Having two toddlers in tow, my husband & I were so excited to see that this Bonchon has a space specifically set aside in the back for small children; it had two tables (one that seats 4 kids, the other probably around 6?), a TV playing kids' movies / shows, & a children's bookshelf containing some toys & board books available for poring through. It was also located RIGHT by where we were seated, which made it amazing. My boys loved it & stayed busy & entertained. Our server's name was Kendall, & he was AMAZING-- he was sweet, had such positive energy, all smiles, & was v accommodating & helpful from the get-go. He always checked in on us, asking questions & making suggestions, & made sure that my family & I had everything we needed throughout our meal. He also made sure to check in on our boys as well, which was A+++. We ordered seasoned fries, zucchini fries, soy garlic chicken & chicken fried rice (for my Mom). My partner and I have eaten here for months. It's a favorite of ours and it's usually the same person running the front. The takoyaki (squid rolled into a ball with shavings on top) is my favorite and sometimes it runs out due to being popular and the spicy dumplings can leave your lips sore with flavor. The pork dumplings are another favorite, with soft dough, chewy pork and coleslaw with sauce in the middle. The service is super fast and sweet, and they usually have the food ready to go for pick up. I've never eaten inside, but they have a large tv at the bar area playing news or sports. Finally a Bonchon location other than Fairfax that does it right! I got the twenty piece medium spicy wings like I get every week at Bonchon. They were right on time, had the sauce that we all know and love, and provided me with two picked radish. Yes, I think all locations should provide at least two radish with a medium. Some locations give one that only has about five radish pieces in it. The chicken was fried well and sauce was on point. Bonchon struggles with consistency between its franchise locations, but this one does it well. Now, I got it takeout so I cannot speak for the restaurant experience. The employee who picked up phone and was working spoke limited English, but I didn't really have problems. Also why are most Bonchon locations so empty during prime dinner time? So the Monday after thanksgiving I had a doctors appointment and made a side trip to buy some of this chicken. I bought for $24.95 a box of their Spicy wings and got a side of Cole slaw. Got home and sat down to eat, Cole Slaw watery and somewhat tasteless. The chicken wings however were very hot and oddly sweet. Less than an hour later my wife started to complain of stomach pains and I had some awful acid reflux, almost upchucking. I stopped at bonachón get the chicken sliders, the last time I had been there I ordered the sliders non spicy and they were good. ToNight, eveN though I asked for the non spicy sliders when I bit onto it my mouth was burning. I explained to the waitress the sandwich was spicy and she apologized and said I could get a new order non spicy at no additional charge. I was happy, even though my mouth was on fire, I could enjoy the rest of the meal. However, a few minutes later the manager, I guess, stopped by my table and said tHe sandwich was not spicy just the mayonnaise. He said scrape off the mayonnaise and eat it that way and left. He did not apologize, did not explain the order was not going to be replaced. Nothing, just plain rude. I don't think I'll go back as the food can be good but the customer service is not. The tables are sticky and disgusting, the silverware is improperly cleaned, you can taste a slight alkaline tinge of detergent on all the forks and cups. The decor is stuck in 2005. The only saving grace this place has is the cleanliness of bathroom, right past the sad bar it's probably the most enjoyable experience you'll have in this place. This is one of our go-to places for Chicken Katsu - yum! The pork buns are also surprisingly authentic and tasty. Haven't had one so good since we dined at Yona (which sadly closed down). The miso soup was okay, but we ordered out and it wasn't warm. However, they did separate the broth from the udon noodles, which kept if from getting soggy. There was an abundance of nori, and lack of mushrooms. We have never dined in the Resturant, so can't speak to how the service and new management compared to the former management team (who had a terrible reputation in the community). Bonchon...and disappointment do not go in the same sentence. However at this location it sums up the entire experience. I was first introduced to Bonchon at the Centreville location. All my office mates were sounding off on how delicious the chicken was. I escaped with a fellow foodie to try it and was instantly converted and impressed. The chicken was thick, juicy and had a great coating around it. The sauces were addicting that they were tossed in and hello?! Kimchi! Perfection! The location was a bit off beat but the actual restaurant itself was quaint and earthy. When I heard that The Village of Leesburg was getting one I was eagerly awaiting its opening. When I finally got the chance to sneak out and grab a bite this is when the sadness set in. First off the decor is off. I'm not quite sure if they were budget restricted, rushed or what but it screams cheap. The tables and chairs look straight out of ikea and less comfortable which tells you loads. I waited to be seated or seen really since no one was there. I think the hostess was also doubling as a buser and a chef. There was a group of four people at a table and two people at the bar. I placed my order to go and waited at the bar. A woman came up and asked about the menu. She wanted to know if the chicken was gluten free. The bartender/waiter/chef at first said yes and I looked at him puzzled because the coating is definitely not gluten free. He then flubbered and said no or maybe...he wasn't sure but could make a call. The woman looked at me and then him and said "You know what, never mind." and then left. As I was waiting for my order I noticed how chaotic and disorganized the bar area was. They had food everywhere and dirty dishes within viewing range. My small order of chicken and a side of kimchi took over 30 minutes in a nearly empty restaurant. I collected my things and left hoping that at least the food would make up for the experience. I was nearly in tears when I opened the box to what looked like paper thin chicken cutlets with nearly no breading and unevenly coated in sauce. They were greasy and not the deliciously coated and crackling Bonchon they should have been. I ate two and threw the rest away. The kimchi was sad and not spicy at all. Even the diakon tasted bad...it was overly sweet? Bonchon if you are reading this you need to call corporate and get proper training on cooking the menu items, customer service training for all employees, learn how to keep the bar area clean and dirty dishes out of the sight of paying customers and perhaps throw a few dollars for cushions for the ikea chairs. Today I placed an order through Door Dash for an order of Bulgoki sliders and an order of Bulgogki jap chae. My order with delivery came to just under $50.00. The last time I had an order of Bulgoki sliders i consisted of a very small hamburger with a portion of Bulgoki on top and a number of condiments. Today I received three alleged burgers with no hamburger or Bulgogi, that is I do not consider .60 ounces of Bulgoki per slider. You are reading this correctly that is just a little over 1/2 an ounce of Bulgoki on a slider. The portion of jap chae was about 50% the portion served at a competitor in the area and unfortunately there was just about as much Bulgoki on the jap chae as on the sandwiches. I really wish I would have read yelp reviews prior to placing my order today, it is fairly clear. I would have avoided this restaurant like the plague, thank goodness we have a forum to let other victims (customers) find out what they are liable to experience if they patronize you. I read quite a few placating messages from Bonchon customer service to people who had spent their good money for a meal at Bonchon. The message to BonChon is too little, too late. read more
