I usually don't write a bad reviews but I think it is worth writing. As you can see my last name , I am Korean but I don't think this is a Korean Fried Chicken cooked by Korean chef or chef trained by People who knows korean freied chicken. To make a long story short this is not A Korean chicken because it is soggy, thick skin and even no taste inside chicken meat. We also ordered toppokki as well, this is horrible too. I love Bonchon!! It's located in a small center off Cedar. It's a newer establishment. We've had the soy garlic chicken wings, drumsticks, chicken breasts, and bulgogi sliders. A coworker of mine told me that if I had not tried bonchons spicy chicken wings I have not lived. And now that I have I can definitely second that statement! I was very impressed with the amount of wings you get in an order first of all because I have not been able to finish them in one sitting. The spicy wings are very spicy so watch out, but I love spicy so these are considered my top 3 favorite wings. I enjoy mine with rice and ranch but I prefer the ranch. If you haven't tried bon chon I think it's time to put this on your list of wings to live for. ;-) read more

I'm so happy that Bonchon has opened up closer to home compared to the Sunnyvale location. Parking on a Friday night was not problem since most of the businesses in the plaza were closed. It also helps that a lot of those business are not restaurants so you're not fighting the dinner crowd. There are a lot of workers, but they need to work on working together. They are very nice and you can see they are trying their best. There was barely a wait for a table and when it was time to take our order, the person we stopped tried to get someone else to take the order. When he couldn't get the person's attention over their radio system, he took our order instead. Our chicken came out first and right away I noticed how big the pieces are! They were plump and juicy. However, the pieces were unevenly coated with the sauce. I thought I was taking the spice like a champ until M pointed out that not all of the chicken was covered in the sauce haha. We ordered rice and fries and had to ask twice for someone to check on them since we had already gone through a few pieces of chicken. The rice came out several minutes later, and the fries even later after that. One would hope the fries would come out before the chicken since it's an appetizer. Overall an a-okay experience and I would come back. They just gotta work out the kinks. I been going to this location since 2016. Back then the chicken use to be crunchy and super good. I called in for a phone order today the server was easy to talk to and respectful. I ordered the large size 30 piece wings to give as a birthday food present. Back in April 26 I made the same order but they only gave me 28 pieces out of 30. But today I got cheated on big time I thought i would give them a chance and not count it in stores but as I got home and most of my family started getting them chicken because they were hungry they told me I thought you said you ordered 30 pieces wings and I said yeah I did u can check the receipt but as we counted it they only put 20 pieces. That's a Rip off smh and on top of that the chicken I ate wasnt crunchy at all and feel and taste soggy in my mouth. And I wasn't able to finish that chicken because I tasted blood and when I opened up the chicken there was little blood in it. read more

Its great that Bonchon is opening in multi locations as the one in sunnyvale is almost always crowded. We came on a friday night and the wait was less than five minutes. The actual restaurant looks pretty similar to the one in sunnyvale, but i believe this one is bigger than its predecessor. Menu wise, they have the usual items your accustomed to as well as additional items. One additional item we tried that was new to us was the Salmon avocado ball. We enjoyed it, a unique taste and very flavorful. As for the chicken, not sure why many folks didn't like it. To me the chicken tasted pretty much the same as what you'd expect in sunnyvale. Its possible the soft opening they encountered some issues but as of now they've fixed it. One thing i think they need to improve upon is the soju flavored drinks...the one we ordered tasted mostly like soju and no soda/fruit taste. Overall though, give this place a shot if you live in the east bay and dont want to trek all the way to the south bay for your KFC. read more

I was really trying to hold back to not write a review about Bonchon... but it had to be done. After hearing raving review from friends and social media, I thought why not give it a try. Mind you, I already had a korean fried chicken love: Von's. However, I decided to be open minded to give this franchise a try. My goodness, I don't know what the hype is about. Visit #1- It was the 2nd week of grand opening. We came in to place a to go order. The place was packed, so I was under the assumption it was going to be amazing. After waiting nearly 40 minutes for my order (combo with half and half) I was pretty excited. When we got home, the order wasn't even correct... I think they just threw in whatever they had at the moment. That irked me... why should I pay more for less. You charge me more for the drums, I expect the drums. I was pretty disappointed with visit #1, but I decided that maybe it was a grand opening thing and that they'd clean things up. Nope, was I wrong. It was even worse. Visit #2- Saw on facebook that they had online ordering. Went to their webpage and nothing was to be found, so we called them. Didn't pick up until the 3rd call, so I figured they were busy- not a bad sign since it was around 6pm. We made our order (combo soy garlic and seasoned fries) and they told us 15-20 minutes. We got there about 20 minutes later. First off, there was 1 party of 2 eating and 3-5 servers. Was no one able to pick up the phone? Haha, that's aside from the point. When we told them our name, the server told us that it would be a few minutes before they pack up our order. That's cool if they haven't made it yet, at least it'll be hot. We waited about 5-7 minutes more before they gave us the order. ... You guessed it. Something was wrong. No... it wasn't the order was wrong, but the food wasn't even hot, let alone warm. It was sad. It was a joke. It was a disappointment. The fries... for $7 you expect a good amount of fries? Nope, this was like McDonald's medium size. Honestly, I'd rather have bought McDonald's fries...at least it'd be hot. I don't want to even talk about the chicken. Cold cold cold. You made me wait that long after I arrived for cold chicken? What. I'm sad. Two times. I thought it would have improved. It got worse. Goodbye Bonchon. If you read all this, thanks. I really wanted to like this place, but the food isn't something to write home about unless it's something bad. Seriousness aside though...haha. What a joke. Bonchon is my favorite fried chicken restaurant but I gave this location 3 stars becauee I was disappointed. Their service was good but the problem was their food. We ordered chicken strips with soy garlic and honey crunch. The crunch (skin) part of fried chicken is too thick compared to other locations. It was greasy and the sauce was salty. If they would make the skin more crispy, I would revisit. read more

This place does not even deserve a one star because of the worst customer service that we have encountered. The manager's name is GRACE. Shame on you for mistreating your customers. We came here last night excited to try their chicken wings. We placed our order of wings and some other food and when our order came out, they were giving us chicken strips instead. We did not want to take the order and asked for a refund since we did not receive the right order but they were forcing the strips to us even though we don't want it. GRACE the manager came out and said she's not giving us a refund and that we should TAKE THE STRIPS, LEAVE AND NEVER COME BACK! She even said ' GO AHEAD AND GIVE ME A BAD YELP REVIEW! We were shocked and could not believe that we were treated that way. We did not even make a scene during the whole situation. They should have owned up to their mistake and fix the issue in a right way instead of being rude. PLEASE avoid this place. That manager/owner does not deserve to have a business. Great fried chicken!!! It's so juicy and flavorful and so crispy on the outside. I like to order the spicy bone in drumsticks and wings. I have also tried the takoyaki and would order it again, super yummy. I've been here twice so far and I do plan on coming back but the service can be quite slow. I'd recommend to just be assertive and let them know you are ready to order or that you need more water if the fail to check on you within a reasonable amount of time. read more

This location is HORRIBLE. I came in here with friends from out of town the first week they were opened, but they didn't know how to split a check. Came here with my family a week later, service was a little better, but my kids order came out 20 mins later than the rest of the table. Then tonight, we got in around 6:40 and didnt get seated til about 7:30, normally not a problem but they seated a party of 3 before us. Both tables were emptied at the same time, but they cleared the table for the party that came in 30 mins after us. I was ready to leave at that point but decided to give them one more chance. Ordered a "medium combo" for the table, 10 wings and 5 drums, asked to have it be "half and half", spicy wings and soy garlic drums, but the waiter said it wasnt possible. It had to be exactly one half of the order, some weird combo of eight spicy wings, 2 soy garlic wings and 5 soy garlic drums. What? Talked to the manager on the way out and he didnt seem interested rectifying the situation and said that they had to do things "by the manual". Im really not sure what their issue is... I've been waiting FOREVER for this location to open up since I noticed the "Coming Soon" banner go up back in August. I'm a huge fan of BonChon, and I used to frequent the Sunnyvale location a lot back when I worked down the street from it. However, since the drives to and from Sunnyvale aren't always enjoyable, I couldn't wait to become a regular at this location (it's also a huge plus I live across the street from this BonChon). Unfortunately, I did not enjoy my experience at the Newark location. I came on a Thursday night at 6:30pm. It was PACKED! So many groups were waiting and the front area got too packed. We waited about 40 mins for a table. What I didn't like about their sign-in sheet was that they would ask for your phone number and call you if they didn't see you after being called twice. Most restaurants would call your name twice, once inside and another outside, and usually if there is no reply, the host/hostess would cross out the name from the list. I overheard the hostess call out names and when there was no reply, she would phone them 5 minutes later. It was kind of entertaining to see her face in surprise when the group said that they were not interested in a table anymore on the phone - some people aren't willing to wait for a table! While I was waiting for a table, I noticed there were too many servers/workers on the floor. I seriously don't think that it is necessary to have people specifically serving food. I mean, even my own waitress didn't bring our orders. Also, what is it with the servers not being able to properly hold the plates in their hands? I was staring at this one guy who would constantly prop up the orders on his chest/belly to get a better grip on the dishes as he walked across the floor. It doesn't help that he was sweating... A LOT! That's pretty gross to me, and as someone who worked in the food service industry, it's also a big no-no. After sitting down, we were fast to order, especially because we only wanted chicken. So my party ordered two medium wings, one all spicy, the other half and half. Okay, so I'm pretty bummed that the wings didn't come with the sides like how the Sunnyvale location does. I normally get the kimchi coleslaw and they wanted an extra $2.95 per serving. That means it's an extra $5.90... that's like two gallons of gas! Not cool, especially because I looked over at neighboring tables and they didn't fill up the dishes with coleslaw, so definitely not worth the price IMO. We waited almost 20 minutes for our chicken to come out. It was brought to us by a guy who was clearly training and nervous. He literally came over and plopped a medium dish of chicken out. No word, nothing. Okay, I get you're nervous but we were confused to which chicken it was, because only one of the medium orders came out. We asked, which flavor, and he shrugged and went back to confirm. I brushed it off but waited for the other order of chicken to come. I noticed other tables started to get food, and they were seated after us. 15 minutes passed and I flagged down our waitress. She said she didn't know where our chicken went. At this point the first order of chicken was getting cold and I didn't want to eat before the other half of my party had their food. I watched our waitress go around to other tables tending them. Another 5 minutes and she still didn't come over to give an explanation, only an apology and ran off. At this point I'm getting annoyed because all of these workers, and owner, are on the floor but I couldn't even get proper service. Eventually, another 10 minutes passed and the second order came, delivered by another random waiter. Our waitress didn't even stop by to acknowledge us properly once food was on the table. She just said, as she walked by, "Oh good, you got it." Finally, it was time to eat! After a stressful time trying to find out what happened to our chicken, we never got a proper explanation but at that point everyone was starving and didn't care to talk. I took one bite of the drummette and I was in KFC heaven. Just how I remembered! Oddly enough, I stared at the wings and they looked off to me. The way the tips of the wings were cut off weren't done right. They left about .5-.75 inch of the tip on, which made it harder to split the bones in two. I also noticed the wings weren't battered at all. They were soggy in texture compared to the drummettes. I do remember correctly that the Sunnyvale location does batter their wings, along with the drummettes. So disappointed... at this point I just needed to get out. The waitress took forever and we were going to pay by card but half of our group had somewhere to be in 15 minutes so cash was thrown down and we got out ASAP. I really wanted to love this location but after this experience I don't know if it's worth going there to save myself from the stress. I would rather drive down to Sunnyvale than walk 4 mins across the street to this location. read more

I introduced my significant other to Bon Chon last month, and he has been obsessed. This location is pretty quiet when we go - which can be a great thing. However, that makes the service a little slow. There are usually two servers on the clock, but one always seems to be hiding lol. Food comes out quick though and still just as good. Imo, I think the chicken only tastes good when fresh and piping hot. There are only two flavors, so we get the medium sized wings (20 pieces) in half and half (soy garlic and spicy). We also replace the pickled radish with white rice, which is free of charge. One time, the server simply got our order wrong. We didn't think much of it, but we wanted what we wanted lol. First time going here. Really wasn't that impressed. I got popcorn chicken, boneless strips and the seasoned fries. So I ordered the fries because they had a picture of some good looking ones on the menu and figured I couldn't go wrong. Well the picture of the ones on the menu must not be at this location because the ones I got were basically McDonalds fries with some Kraft style graded cheese spread on them and some parsley. They didn't just look like a disappointment but tasted like the ones your mom would say she can make at home that taste just like McDonalds when you were a kid. Total letdown, Love you Mom :) Popcorn chicken was ehh, not bad but not great, nothing that would make me want to come back. The boneless strips I got were hit or miss in the same batch. Some were really good and crispy and others were soggy and nasty. The only thing that did raise an eyebrow was the good crispy ones had a crispy glaze that was almost like the crispy skin on regular wings, so if they could get the whole batch to come out like that then maybe they could have an edge over their competitors. Until then Buffalo Wild Wings or WingStop would be your best bet. read more
