I had heard from word of mouth that this place had bomb wings. However the initial thing I would like to tell anyone interested in coming here is: be willing to wait. We got here at around 8:45 pm and were only seated now at 9:30 pm. Normal people would have walked out at this point but we were committed to trying this bomb fried chicken. So waited we did. They tried to make us order before we got a table which was really bizarre to us to say the least. We have never had this experience before. So after waiting and EXCRUCIATINGLY long time during a dinner time thats renown for being not as busy as say 6:30 we were finally seated. The waiter who served us could only bring us 4 drinks per time which struck us as a little strange. However he was nice and tried to recommend us certain things and was considerate of kids and their low spice tolerance. We got our food at a reasonable amount of time which was a blessing since being hangry is not a great state of being. The bibimbap was really great and I definitely recommend you try the one with bulgogi beef because that beef was tender and flavorful. Steer clear of the Bonchan wrap though, that was pretty bad. Also all of their appetizers are pretty bleh; out of the three appetizers we got: onion rings, calamari, and seasoned fries the only good one was the seasoned fries and even those were just okay. Drumroll please! The moment you've been waiting for: the part where I talk about the fried chicken. I DEFINITELY recommend you try the fried chicken. It was absolutely BOMB!!!!!! So crispy, so flavorful, so perfect. Superb. Succulent. Anyways if this place had better management (aka could seat us quickly) that'd make this a higher rating, but as is the food is pretty bomb and the decor is nice. read more

I order the glass noodles and the oil they were cooked in made the noodles taste burnt. I told the waitress and she checked with her manager. The taste left a bad taste in my mouth so I didn't want to try them again. So I asked for something else. I asked for something else and the manager said no we could not order something else. I said just take it off the bill. She said policy that they had to recoil it for us. I said I did not want and she said I was being unreasonable . So she made another order. I didn't eat it. My friend took it home. At this point I will never get another dollar. The manager has no concept of customer service. The food is good. But they are cheating. I bought 20pc chincken wing and small combo (6 wings & 3 drumps) to take out, but when we opened the box at home, we found 10 wings and 10 drumps , and 3 wings and 6 drumps in the combo box. How can they fool us. Before I bought several times but I found every time the numbers of the wings and drumps is switched compared with the menu. It's like a weird fusion between an American sports bar that serves chicken wings and a Korean bistro. But don't let the strangeness scare you away; this place serves amazing wings and drumsticks. I'm typically not a wings fan because the skin is usually too rubbery or squishy, but Bonchan's wings are perfectly crispy. The meat is cooked clean thru but retains all its juices. They have options for the number of pieces and sauce coating, and pricing was very good; a plate of wings was enough for two adults that had skipped breakfast. The skin is both tangy and a bit sweet; we got the soy garlic sauce. They also have spicy or you can mix the two. As for the Korean food, it was only average. For some reason their tteokbokki was coated in cheese like it was some kind of pizza but without tomato sauce. It was a bit disappointing. The environment was fine and clean, not like sports bars I've been to with peanut shells littering the floor and a greased up drunk man slurring about the home team, but there was a large TV with a game on. The food is decent (for Americanized Korean food) but I really wish the service was at least average. But it's not. The first two times, they got the order wrong, and the food took a long time (kids at the table started protesting). The 3rd time, the service was non-existent - we didn't even make it to a table! We left hungry and frustrated after patiently waiting for the hostess to acknowledge or seat us. The hostess was extremely slow and inefficient, and it wasn't even busy. I usually go here for the soy garlic chicken wings and I have not been disappointed. The salmon ball is also pretty good too. Service is usually friendly and I don't think I've ever been here during a crazy busy time so the servers check on us pretty frequently which I appreciate. They do have some service issues as it is a new place and i am sure by the time they do their grand opening these quirks would be ironed out. He didn't say anything and just stood there while the line was behind the other register. Finally received my order at 6:37 pm, 1 hour and 13 minutes later. During the wait, you could see other people becoming agitated, while the employees ran around not knowing how to appease the customers beside saying sorry for the wait. Few customers even started asking about cancelling their orders. I had just finally received my food and one of the customers asked when theirs was coming out. The woman turned to them and had an angry look on her face and said, "You want a refund, I will give you a refund!" Food: Average Combo of wings and drumsticks, with both soy garlic and spicy. Plus an order of house fried rice (chicken). You would think the the fried rice would of been hot after waiting over an hour, but it was more like luke warm. I ordered BonChon via DoorDash so I can't really say much about customer service. As for the food, I was super disappointed. I tried the korean tacos as well as the tteokbokki and I didn't find them good at all. The korean tacos were super basic, just meat, lettuce and coleslaw. They're not worth more than $10+ to me. The tteobokki was super mushy. I also tried the chicken wings, both the spicy and the soy garlic and they were alright but you could easily get better wings at another chicken chain. Don't ever order from this spot, I should've read the reviews ahead of time. I got my food door dashed and I can't believe this is the same brand. I got spicy medium with seasoned fries, THE FRIES NEVER MADE IT TO MY HOUSE. I asked the Dasher and he said that's all they gave him. Whether the dude straight up took my fries, didn't take them off the counter, or the store didn't even make them is forever a mystery. Now the chicken, this STUFF was soggy, and super light on the sauce. Someone people have been saying that it's because of it being delivery, UUUUUH no, it's not. I've had bonchon delivered from San Jose and it's perfectly crispy and saucy. This place has waaaaaaaay too much breading. For someone reason, unlike other locations, when they send it in the aluminum tray they put holes in the lid? I know the reason for WHY they do it, but no other location does it, and there's no problem of it being soggy! I saw bits of aluminum in the chicken. I've had bonchon before so I came in knowing what to expect. Hubby ordered the small assortment of fried chicken and I got the bi bim bap. I usually look at my food before I eat it and especially before I give it to my four year old. So I grabbed the biggest drumstick and stared tearing into the meat to feed my daughter. As i was pulling the meat from the bone, I saw a lil bit of blood coming out from the joint of the drumstick and felt a pool of sickness. I was so turned off, that they would serve undercooked chicken. I waved down the waitress and told her, she was apologetic and upon my request she told the person in charge. When she came back she asked if i still wanted the chicken or to cancel it. I told her to go ahead and give me another order, I mean what hell were we gonna eat ??? Long story short, I got no apology or explanation from their person in charge, there was no acknowledgement what so ever. I got upset and decided to talk to her to tell her the dangers of serving undercooked chicken to consumers. She still didn't apologize and she just simply stated it was due to complaints that she had received from customer that the chicken was dry.... Hence they decided to skimp on thoroughly cooking the chicken through. So beware ppl if you wanna eat at this particular bonchon make sure you pay attn to your every bite read more

I've been a Bonchon fan for quite some time so I got excited when I heard about the Newark location since I live in the area. I came here a few times during their soft opening, and while things didn't start it too well (flavors were off, chicken was overcooked, service was slow), I was impressed that many of these things turned for the better. We had the soy garlic wings, strips, popcorn chicken, and seasoned fries. The wings had a nice cook in them. Not soggy or overly crispy. The popcorn chicken was really good (Quickly's got nothing on these), and the fries came with a generous seasoning of parsley and parmesan. While the kitchen was kind of backed up, the waiter was attentive and super nice. I'm glad they improved overall and would definitely come back. read more

Decided to get a beer before the movies and found this gem , sat at the bar and was immediately welcomed and offered menus and a drink , good choice of beer and soju , was talked into the wings by the bartender and I would like to thank him ! I read a review once someone saying they always eat in and when they once did a pick up the wings were tiny and now I know exactly what they were talking about! I don't always eat fried chicken, but when I do, I only eat at Bonchon! I can never choose between the spicy and soy, because both of them are so good so half and half is a perfect combination to have. Unlike many other fried chicken places, the chicken at this particular location are served in really generous portions and were super juicy. And they really don't skimp on the other ingredients either! They sure piled up the cheese and chicken on their BULL DAK (stir-fried rice cake with spicy chicken). I actually wish there were more rice cakes but hey, no complaint here! I also love that they have flavored soju served there, because soju and KFC (Korean fried chicken) go hand in hand to make my perfect meal (especially after watching Korean drama). Servers did not know what they were doing. I went for lunch and there was about 3 parties and they still could not manage. Our food I gave it 7/10.
