Parking can be rough so we had to park two streets down and walk over. The store is nice and big and there's plenty of tables. There weren't too many other customers when we ate so service was super quick. Ordered the bulgogi fries, sotteok sotteok, mixed chicken, boneless chicken, tteokbuki. Everything was delicious. The bulgogi fries are a must. Fries were super crispy on the outside and loaded. The tteokbuki was very basic and nothing special to it. Their chicken is nice and crispy and moist inside. Their sauces are delicious as well. I liked the yangyeom the best.

I've visited multiple locations, and this one stands out because it stays open later than most. They also offer a great Monday and Tuesday special with $1 wings. We ordered the drumsticks, which were perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The sauces added flavor without being overpowering, One of my favorites is still the bulgogi fries--they're consistently delicious and always a must-order. Overall, a great spot for late-night cravings, tasty wings, and satisfying shareable dishes.

Dear diary, Was craving some chicken and beer so decided to head to Bonchon. There was a bit of a wait but the staff were really friendly and helpful throughout the process. The restaurant was lively and loud, great for large parties as well. We decided to go with the meal deal and try it out. For $40 we picked 6 wings + 3 drums, popcorn shrimp and tteokbokki. I have to say that the meal deal was a lot of food for two people. But the food was great so nothing to complain about. The parking could be a bit of a hassle due to a small parking lot but arrive early to find a spot.

Tried Bonchon on Conway Street for the first time and it definitely lived up to the hype! Our waitress recommended the wings, so I ordered the 10-piece wings and drumettes with two flavors: soy garlic and Yangnyeom. Both were absolutely delicious, super crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and a really good amount of chicken on the order. The soy garlic had the perfect savory flavor, and the Yangnyeom brought a great spicy kick. I also got a side of white rice with the meal which balanced out the spice perfectly. Overall, a 10/10 experience and I'll definitely be back! UPDATE - I went back again the next day for the same order

Tucked away in a small strip mall, this spot can be a bit tricky when it comes to parking. Inside, there's plenty of seating, but you'll need to wait to be seated, which feels a little out of place for such a casual setting. The experience might run more smoothly if they offered counter ordering with open seating. As for the food, it's solid but not particularly memorable. The fries are your standard seasoned beer-battered style--crispy, but lacking originality. The chicken sandwich had good flavor and was the highlight of the meal, though it wasn't enough to truly stand out overall. In the end, it's a decent option, but not one that strongly pulls me back for another visit.

One of my favorite spots for a quick meal when you don't want to spend a lot of money. I've been coming here for their Monday/Tuesday $1 wing deals and $2 Sapporo happy hour. The vibes in here are great, with friendly, quick service as well as a lively ambience with upbeat music. There are many flavors to choose from and I tend to stick with the yangnyeom flavor, which combines sweet, savory, and spicy Korean taste into a sauce. Their wings are very crispy and tender. We also got the bulgogi fries and potstickers, which offered a nice contrast with its soft filling. The best part of the fries was the spicy/creamy mayo that paired well with the savory bulgogi.

The Monday and Tuesday $1 wings is so awesome. There's a 15 wing limit, but that's more than enough. That being said, the wings were so good. I felt like the skin stayed crispy despite the sauciness of the wings. And I'm not going to lie, the french fries hit HAHA. We came in kind of late, so I appreciate the quick service and good service at that, despite us being there until just before closing. There's lots of seating inside and the vibe is very chill. Whether you're there hanging out, watching the game, or just catching up with friends. A great place to eat.

Convoy has no shortage of great food, but this spot definitely earned a return visit from me. We came across their dine-in combo deal for $40 that includes wings, bites, and a dish, and honestly it felt like a steal for the amount of food we got. The wings came tossed in soy garlic and they were fantastic. Korean fried chicken just crisps differently and this place nailed it. Perfect crunch on the outside and juicy inside. Something about that style of fry just hits. For the bites we chose potstickers, and they actually let us toss them in one of the wing sauces which was such a cool way to try another flavor. We went with yangnyeom and it had a really nice kick. I love spicy food so that was a pleasant surprise. I ended up dipping my soy garlic wings into the extra yangnyeom sauce from the potstickers and wow... that combo was incredible. The wings also came with coleslaw which balanced out all the fried goodness perfectly. They even give you a bucket for your chicken bones, which is such a small but thoughtful touch that keeps the table clean. Our dish was Japchae, which was a great addition to round out the meal. Service was also on point. The wings came out hot and crispy, and they even gave us wipes with the check which was super appreciated after demolishing a pile of wings. Overall this was a fantastic meal and a great deal. Easy 5 stars and I can't wait to come back.

With shrinkflation robbing us daily and everything costing an arm and a leg, hearing about $1 wings felt unreal. The deal is dine in only, max 15 wings per person, and only on Mondays and Tuesdays. Bonchon is located in the Convoy Pointe Plaza and that parking lot is a nightmare. We went on a Monday around 7PM and the lot was completely full. People were parking a couple blocks away and walking. After circling for about 20 minutes we finally found a spot. Inside, it was vibrant and packed. We were lucky enough to grab the last open table. The party behind us waited about 10 more minutes, so expect a little wait. We were handed menus right away, but for the next 20 minutes no one came by. No water, no drink order, nothing. On a busy promo night I get that amazing service is hard, but a little attentiveness would have been nice. $1 wing deal. The flavors included Soy Garlic, Spicy, Yangnyeom, Korean BBQ, and Classic Crunch. I ordered 5 Classic Crunch wings with pickled radish and a side of spicy mayo. My partner got 10 wings, half Spicy and half Soy Garlic. We also ordered the sotteok sotteok for $2.99, which is a Korean street food skewer with chewy rice cakes and sausage coated in yangnyeom sauce. Our food came out about 15 minutes later and we finally got water. Everything smelled amazing. The wings overall were super crispy and held their sauce well. The soy garlic was my favorite. Balanced and flavorful. The spicy was extremely hot but still enjoyable if you can handle heat. The Classic Crunch had a great exterior but was way too salty. I was glad I ordered spicy mayo to balance it out. For $1 though, they are solid. Good meat, juicy inside, and fried well. The pickled radish was disappointing. It had the crunch, but it lacked that sharp acidic sweetness you usually expect. It tasted under brined and flat. The sotteok sotteok was pretty good. Chewy rice cakes, juicy sausage, and that garlicky yangnyeom sauce. I honestly wish I ordered another one. I can see myself coming back on Mondays or Tuesdays for the deal and the vibe, but probably not on a regular day. There are better wing spots, but for $1, it's hard to complain too much.

This is Bonchon's OG location in the SD area as it opened in the Convoy Pointe Plaza Shopping Center several years ago. The internal corner suite they occupy is not the most optimal spot especially with the notoriously jammed parking lot. They used to have long lines for dining in, but now the tables were well spaced apart with less seating capacity. I think it's because most of their revenue was coming from takeout and third-party delivery orders. During my recent visit, just three other parties were seated. A special menu card listed a Bacon x Kimchi collaboration with three items. The regular menu featured Korean fried chicken in the form of wings, drumsticks, strips, and boneless with small, medium, and large quantities available. You choose a type, quantity, sauce, and small side for an order. A variety of Bonchon bites (appetizers) appeared on the other side of the menu. I selected the Bacon Kimchi Stir-Fry Udon from the special collab menu and a small (10 pc) order of soy garlic wings with pickled radishes. Both items arrived simultaneously after about a 15-minute preparation time. The first was made up of wheat noodles stir-fried with bacon, pork belly, kimchi, and onions. A soy garlic and spicy sauce was used to flavor the mix which had a mild heat level. The wings were hand battered, double fried, and hand brushed with the soy garlic sauce I picked. I recall that the wings were light and crunchy when I first tried them years ago. This time the batter seemed heavier and overcooked. I am uncertain if they changed their formula, but I wasn't as impressed as before. The fact that they charged less than two dollars per wing was positive and why I rounded my rating up to a four star level.

Come here on Mondays or Tuesdays for $1 wings! It's a super good deal and the wings are Korean style deliciousness. They also have $5 draft Sapporo beers after 9pm. I think this special is everyday. The service is fast but they're super busy on wing special days. However they are bussin their butts to make sure you get your wings! There are TVs so you can enjoy your favorite sports while having wings. I recommend soy garlic for savory or Yangnyeom if you like some spice. Their other items are good, but just stay with the wings and you won't go wrong.

My kids loved the bulgogi fries here! We intentionally came on a Monday so that it's cheaper. Mon and tues is 1$ wings. Otherwise korean chicken wings are just too expensive! We got the Korean, soy, fire, and the new flavor yangyeom. I think my favorite is fire but its not spicy at all. My kids opted for the korean feast. You get to choose 1 from each category. They chose 6 wings with 3 drum sticks, bulgogi fries, and the tteokbokki. They enjoyed all of it and its 40$ i think its a good deal. The inside is nice and big but their beer on tap tastes weird. The service was so great bc my server forgot my beer. I had to ask for it a second time. All in all, we will definitely come again!

Hands down the best Korean chicken spot in San Diego: especially for their happy hour wing nights on Monday and Tuesday (dine-in)! The wings are perfectly crunchy, double-fried to golden perfection, and bursting with flavor. The soy garlic easily my favorite: savory, slightly sweet, and absolutely addictive. The ambience was just right: music at a comfortable level, lighting that gives a nice night-time vibe, and plenty of TVs showing different things. My husband and I didn't pay much attention to the screens though: we were too busy enjoying good conversation and amazing food. Our server, Michaela, made the experience even better. She took the time to ask our names, gave us rubber bands when our to-go container broke, and overall made us feel genuinely welcome: it felt like home. If you're looking for a go-to spot for Korean wings, this is it. Great food, great service, and a chill atmosphere that makes you want to come back every week (which we have apparently!)

CRISPY WINGS!!! Even after taking home our leftovers, they were still crispy. We ordered half & half; spicy and sweet. The spicy wings, I highly recommend and has a kick. As for the sweet wings, it has a tangy taste to it, not really for me. The seasoned fries - my kids loved the Parmesan cheese on it. The bulgogi bibimbap - average and got a really big order. The service we had was great. The parking in this complex, really sucks. Would definitely come back for the spicy wings. Enjoyed eating wings while watching K-Pop videos on their TV. read more

I loved this place. Best bibimbap bowl since Toronto. Very cute staff and the K pop videos were fun. Don't be in a hurry -- it took twenty minutes before my food cooled down enough to eat. Solid wings, stayed crispy throughout the meal! I recommend just getting regular wings. Both sauces, soy garlic, and spicy are both great. Couple of my friends said the wings were too spicy. Being here three times, the sauce amount was a bit inconsistent with the spicy wings. Was just as good when I had it in Texas. Also ordered the fries with seasoning, recommended as well. The tteokbokki was pretty bland in my opinion, and not spicy. Wouldn't order that again. Good selection of soju. Beer selection is ok. Service was great. Definitely try to come at an off time as it gets pretty busy. Also, you'll be fighting for parking in this parking lot, good luck! read more

I came alone for my lunch time. The staff were all friendly. Joey led me to the bar. This restaurant has a good lunch special. I tried Spicy Bull Dak. This was so delicious. At first I thought this was just hype because it was popular in LA. So I got the chance to try it out as my wife was craving to try Bonchon. The wings great flavor not just the outside but also the inside. The outside has a really good crunchy texture. By that I don't mean hard crunch but just enough to give you that satisfaction of being different than the meat. So the udon, ramen, bibimbap are good but nothing different than where you would regularly go. So this is why they're known for their chicken wings which in fact it is unique from any other restaurant. But my favorite dish and it's unique to me will be the salmon/avocado ball. If you haven't tried it you probably should next time you go read more

WHY HAVEN'T I BEEN HERE SOONER?!! After the 4th day in a row going here, the guy server just smiles when I walk in and seats us. I am addicted!!! CRUNCHY fried chicken that is SOOOOOOOOO moist inside! With a sweet, savory and/or spicy glaze. My fave is the Soy Garlic. There are other items there but GET THE CHICKEN!! This is definitely quality fried chicken! Yes the lines are ridiculous but I think it's worth a try at least once. Two of us got medium wings half spicy half soy garlic and some bulgogi fried rice. The serving sizes are small! I wanted to like this place so badly but for $40 for two people I hoped it would fill us up. Thankfully we got boba afterwards but I would not come back again due to the price and portion size :( The spicy is I'd say a 7/10 spiciness which I liked a lot! Very authentic spices and flavoring. The garlic soy would be my favorite of the two because it's a lot easier to scarf down due to hunger after the insanely long wait. read more

The chicken here is so crunchy I can still here the echoes of my first bite ringing in my ears. Service was fairly slow, but it's hard to complain during their soft opening where they are working out the kinks and perfecting their system. Beer and Soju prices were not bad! Out of all the KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) places in SD, I'll have to say that Bonchon is my favorite place to go. They have lots of great deals like the family meal that comes with fries and fried rice. It can feed 3-4 people. They have a ton of other dishes to try, although I mainly come for the chicken. Just as good as the ones in the Bay Area! My go-to is the soy garlic wings but I wanted to try the chicken tenders because I didn't feel like using my hands for once. I got an 8 piece chicken tender and for the portion I got, it was super generous. It's not too salty and it coats the chicken just enough, but it's not overpowering! Chicken is crispy and juicy, something I find that other places would make it crispy but not juicy or vice versa. The pickled radish here is a really good palate cleanser and even though Bonchon is super simple, it's super comforting. There's not more inside dining, just takeout and everything is clean! :) read more

The food is always good but this rating is for the staff. Came here for dinner just before 9pm last night with my boyfriend. We were expecting to take our order to go since they closed at 9:30 but upon being greeted by the friendly hostess, she said we could still dine in. I was expecting the employees' attitudes to change as it neared closing when they brought out our food but nope, every interaction we had with the staff members was pleasant. I noticed the same as people were picking up their takeout orders. Honestly, after a sh!t day at work it was so nice to be able to eat out without being treated like the annoying last-minute customers. We finished our meal and I left a 25% tip. I wished I could've matched the tab but my budget is still a bit tight from covid. Lastly, if you haven't tried the sweet red chili flavor yet, do it! It was sooooo yummy read more

I'm not sure what the hype is about this place. I've been wanting to try their fried chicken for awhile and finally did. Ordered on line and they were about 25 mins late with our meal. The chicken was dry and not moist. However, the chicken skin was amazingly crispy and that's it. The sides are to sugary and to sweet. Even the rice was undercooked which is comical that a Korean restaurant couldn't make white rice right. Overall disappointed. read more

That was my first time here in bonhon convoy. Let me say that: staff are nice and friendly. They even ask you how are doing and if I want something, that's a nice approachable manners. The soy garlic are delicious and blow pretty much every Korean fried chicken place out of the water. Unfortunately the spicy version ruins chicken and whatever intent it had on happiness. Even the mild version is just stupid. There's that yum flavorful spicy yumness that keeps you coming back for more and than there is that burn the tongue flavorless stab to the throat. Lacks total flavor and also comes delivered soggy despite the being ordered mild and almost no "spicy" sauce. Simple fix just to throw some brown sugar or change the sauce but nope ... fail town. read more

I ordered the half and half spicy and soy garlic wings. I really enjoyed them, the wings had a really good flavor to them and they weren't too saucy so they stayed crispy. The spicy wings had a good amount of spice where I could definitely feel it on my tongue but it wasn't so spicy that I couldn't eat them. The soy garlic was also very good and had a nice slightly sweet flavor. The only somewhat con was that some of the wings I received where relatively small but I'm sure that varies from order to order. The service was also very good, water glasses were kept filled but they weren't overly intrusive during the meal. Overall a very positive experience and I will definitely come back. read more

This is the second time I've walked out of Bonchon. I didn't complain months ago when it happened the first time as they were insanely busy so I assumed it was just due to it being a hectic day. We went in today and there were less than five tables filled when we were seated. It didn't take long to get waters but we never got our menu. I again gave benefit of the doubt as I only saw two employees out front but as another couple was seated after us, given menus AND their order was taken we decided to leave. Multiple customers were also given their to-go orders or being checked on while dining as we sat unattended. read more

The best fried chicken I have ever tasted. So crispy and juicy at the same time. I got the soy garlic and spicy. I also love the pickled radish side that came with it. I got to choose between a side of pickled radish or coleslaw. The fries were good but nothing to write home about- fries are always good to me. So bad it made me make a Yelp account. Ordered to go and before we could even sit down at a table, were asked to wait outside in-case they needed the tables. There were FOUR empty tables. Why not just let us sit and then if you actually need the the table, then ask us to wait outside? They never needed the table. So we wait 30 minutes outside in seats they'd give kindergarteners in timeout. Meanwhile, one of their employees comes out and is talking on the phone to the manager..? about how their's no communication between the kitchen, front-desk, and waiters. It would appear so, since in the end of it all, they forgot the rice. The Rice. You'd get better service at Popeyes. read more

Foodgasm!!! I've never had fried chicken like this before. I ordered the "small" chicken strips, it came with 8 pieces of them. You have the options of garlic soy, spicy and something else I don't remember. I ordered garlic soy and the spicy. Took the first bite and I immediately tasted the quality of the chicken, but the thing that's stands out was the batter. Super crunchy and flavorful with every bite. It felt like eating cornflakes chicken tenders. Switched to the spicy tenders and it blew my mind away. As if it had its own identity. It tasted like Sriracha sauce but only spicer. The batter didn't feel heavy or greasy, it tasted right. I will definitely come back to this place. read more

Even though it was a soft opening I really enjoyed my time here. I'll mention the one downside I experienced first, (though it doesn't sway my rating since the food was good). I felt slightly rushed. I like to thoroughly look at menus and figure out what I want to order. My friend was looking for parking outside and I was asked about 3 times in a 6min period if I'm ready to order before my friend was even inside to look for himself. I hope it's just because they are trying to get people in and out for soft opening and limited opening hours. So I THINK that will change. Everything else was great. I ordered for delivery and these wings travelled very well. All of the chicken we still hot and crispy. We did the half and half and the spicy one was my favorite. The soy garlic one can get a bit too sweet but it's still really good. Overall very solid korean fried chicken. It's a bit on the pricier side but it's def worth it read more

Delicious. Moist on the inside, crisp on the outside with a hint of sweetness from the Korean soy glaze. Spicy wings were just the right amount of heat. A good pairing with the pickled radish we opted for. Seasoned fries were also the bomb! We will be back next time we are in SD! read more

Flama Llama provided for my companion and I both a satisfying afternoon meal, and perhaps the most poignant dining experience I have enjoyed thus far in my life. The meat was tender and juicy. The vegetables more flavorful than I ever thought possible. The noodles seasoned to perfection. The chicha morada subtly sweet and divinely slaking. And the sauce -- the sauce was orgasmic. I used to not believe those who claimed that good food tells a story. Before this meal I was blind, but now I see the truth. Tension, melancholy, tenacity, and elation. So rich in intensity and meaning. To descibe in human tongue this meal that transcends language would be a disservice to its biblical splendor. I can only in good faith describe the effect that it had on me. I have never cleaned my plate like I did in this restaurant. I have never performed with such steadfast resolve. I have never been turned into a beast of a man and immediately satiated by such postprandial bliss. I was a mad, esurient dog, and Flama Llama's cuisine a gentle hand guiding me to fulfillment. How the sweet meal sang to me, beckoning me into this nirvana like Saint Peter at the pearly gates. This world is a savage one, but the food at Flama Llama has reminded me that no matter how crestfallen, no matter how mired in anguish we as humans have become, beauty endures. I am, in all likelihood, Flama Llama's #1 fan. Still, I wish I knew enough about cooking or creation of any kind so that I could appreciate it more. I wish I had it in me to become so skilled at preparing food that I could develop something even remotely close to this. And while I have my eye on other endeavors, I will never stop being inspired by Flama Llama. Such artistry I will be hard pressed to find elsewhere. I can only hope that one day I will be responsible for something that touches someone as deeply as this food has touched me. An incredible experience if ever one there was. I may no longer seek love from a human companion because I have found everything I need at this establishment. Someone even brought out a little stool for my purse, which I've never seen outside of the best Michelin starred restaurants. The drinks were well-balanced and inventive, and perfectly matched the food. Apologies for the poor photos of the dishes - I was tipsy ;) The menu is mostly Filipino fusion, with some additional Asian fusion (ie Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean). If you expect traditional flavors and textures, you might be disappointed. Come with an open mind and your taste buds will thank you. The finesse and effort was evident in even the most humble sounding dish. The roasted cabbage was the dish that came to mind. It was at once soft in the center and crispy on the edges, with a flavor punch from the brown butter miso. The cucumber appetizer was such a hit, that we ordered it a second time. The kare kare short rib was fall off the bone tender. As far as creativity, I have never heard of tteokbokki with perilla pesto, but it absolutely works. It was probably my favorite dish of the night, even if it didn't quite match the rest of the dishes we ordered. Some dishes will still hit that nostalgia factor. For me, those dishes were the Wagyu fried rice and the Taiwanese chicken. Were they the best dishes ever? Probably not, but they were tasty and felt like a warm hug. Sometimes cooking with soup is just as important as all the fancy tricks. This time we did not order any of the mouth-watering steaks, because we wanted to try so many of the dishes on the menu. However, the last time I did have steak, and it was divine. They've done the A5 wagyu justice, and it is well worth the money. In short, I highly recommend checking out Animae. I know I for sure will be back!

We've sat downstairs in the restaurant which offers a beautiful interior and a more intimate experience, as well as upstairs in their beautiful al fresco seating area which provides a beautiful city view and sea breeze and is for sure our preferred seating for our dining experience. The culinary experience at this establishment was exceptional, particularly the Korean fried chicken and fried rice. However, I am compelled to provide a one-star review due to several concerning issues. Firstly, the server demonstrated a lack of attention to detail by incorrectly identifying who ordered which dish and haphazardly placing the food at the end of the table. More concerningly, a $22 gratuity was automatically added to our bill without prior notice. Furthermore, the receipt erroneously indicated that our party consisted of six individuals when in fact there were only five of us. Upon inquiring about these discrepancies, the server initially asserted that the gratuity is automatically applied for parties of five or more. However, another employee later contradicted this statement, stating that the gratuity is only added for parties of six or more. This inconsistency raised concerns about the establishment's transparency and adherence to fair business practices. I intend to escalate this matter to the corporate office and bring it to the attention of Suzi Tsai, as this appears to be a deliberate attempt to deceive customers. read more

Bonchon on Convoy Street is an absolute gem for Korean fried chicken lovers! Omg. This chicken house is a big hit. I ordered a spicy chicken, it was spicy and sweet. I fell into the spicy taste of this chicken house. Also, I ordered Bulgogi tacos and salmon avocado balls. The Bulgogi taco had plenty of bulgogi. The salmon avocado ball was full of vegetables inside and smoked salmon covered it. It is with crunch powder, it is really delicious. They opened one of these finally down here and I wanted to try this place out. Food was better than average. Their chicken is reminscent of Chinese chicken spots but lighter in taste. I would come back but would rahte rstick to my old spots when it comes to this style of sweet salted chicken. It's a cool spot though with the big screen tv's all around. You can count on their fried goodness chicken drums, so crunchy in thin butter and so tasty, with coleslaw and radish cubes on the side. I've got large combo - Half spicy and half soy garlic is a must try if you ponder to this place. Korean tacos were out of this world. As I have tried Bonchon in New York, I was very excited to find out that there was one out in San Diego. I ordered the family meal deal as a take out order and the food came out as I arrived at the restaurant. The chicken stayed crispy and didn't disappoint at all. We chose to get 3 orders of the crispy fried wings with sauce (9 pieces), because we wanted to try three different sauces. The crispy batter for all of the wings stayed quite crispy, even though the wings were tossed in sauce. My favorite one was the signature sauce (yangnyeom) which was the perfect mixture of sweet, tangy, and savory flavors. It has a slight kick to it from the gochujang. My second favorite was the honey soy, and the third was the cheese flavor. They were all tasty though! We also got the tteokbokki which is chewy rice cakes with fish cakes. It was good, and a pretty decent size for $16. The only dish I wouldn't get again is the corn cheese because it was a bit overcooked. Overall, this is an amazing choice for Korean fried chicken in SD, and I'd definitely return.
