The fries were my favorite part of the meal. They were so crunchy and delicious! As for the fried chicken, I typically order half soy garlic and half spicy. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised. The two things that set me back 1 star was that, for the name of the restaurant being 'Bonchon' it didn't come with any... in fact I had to purchase kimchi which was just okay. And this is the second time I ordered the tteokbakki the first time I never recieved the order through doordash, this time I asked for them to leave out onions and scallions cuz I'm allergic and they sent me an order with two rice cakes in and mostly fish cakes. I love Bon Chon Chicken. The recipe for the spicy sauce did not taste like the other franchises (which is one of the reasons I visited this location with the expectation of consistency). The price was absurd ($51.xx for a 24 count of half spicy, half soy garlic wings). It was definitely overpriced. I think my order might've been switched with another lady who had two orders at the counter at the same time. The sauce (which had the addition of either plum, or cherry preserves in the spicy sauce) was odd. It also wasn't as spicy as the original recipe. They also only had long grain steamed rice instead of the short, or medium grain sticky rice, which was a disappointment. The fragrant sticky rice is the perfect textural contrast to the crispy wings & pickled daikon. Disappointed to not have that as an option. The sauce (which might've been the Korean BBQ flavor that the lady mentioned) tastes like it belongs on char siu pork ribs, which isn't bad (or carcinogenic), but this particular recipe tasted like it was a molecule, or two off from being made of saccharine (which is carcinogenic). Not that I'm a lawyer, but I would probably keep it off the menu (or have it available as a limited offer, or have customers sign a waiver to consume the wings similarly to how other restaurants do food challenges) to avoid harming customers, getting involved with a class action lawsuit that closes the business down, or having competitors intentionally alter it by combining it with the remaining carcinogenic ingredients. read more

We were seated promptly as this location is very large and there were only a couple of tables taken on a wed night. The menu is small and is a combination of the fried chicken (choice of mild or spicy), salads, sides and some prepared Korean favorite dishes... We ordered the 10 piece chicken, salad with salmon and a side of Cole slaw. The salad was very disappointing as the piece of salmon was dry and was barely a thin piece of salmon that was 2.5"x2.5"!!! Not enough protein for a meal!! The dressing was good but not enough, they were good about providing more when we asked for it. Horrible service. Unacceptable. Every time we order through their website or Uber, something always goes wrong. Items are always missing (in one case, they gave our entire order to the wrong Uber driver). Today, they missed another item from our order. This was the last straw. We were so miffed that we called the restaurant to speak to the manager only to be told that the manager was not on site. So we requested a refund for the missing item. But that was also denied as only the manager can issue refunds. Instead, we were told that a refund will be issued in a couple of days when the manager reports back to work. Really? Based on DoorDash PICK UP order: I ordered today on DoorDash and when arriving I was told by the girl working the front desk that the order was picked up for delivery. I'm guessing since they put all the DoorDash orders on a table in the front right next to the entrance with little to no control from the staff someone saw my order and decided it was the one they wanted. I was pretty frustrated since it would take more time to wait and I have work in a bit, and this was a quick meal with my family before work. The girl immediately gave me a refund on half my order and she even showed great care and customer service by adding a FREE Seasoned Fry to my order. This is why they get 5 STARS. I'm in the customer service industry and help manage and lead multiple locations. This is exactly what I would have done in this scenario. Most fast food places like this for quick eats with younger employees typically would just say sorry and remake it for full price. The employee (young lady) gave the refund on half the order and gifted a free item too. This is more than above and beyond in customer service. This is the type of thing a 5 star restaurant at $45+ per plate would do. The Bon Chon Staff is clearly educated, trained and willing to offer excellent customer service. This is why they DESERVE this 5 STAR review from me based on my personal experience. I would definitely return back to them with my business, knowing they will offer the best in service for a quick bite eatery. I've been to other Bonchon's before so I already knew the brand and that the chicken was good.  This location is spacious and the service is on point. PARKING - large parking lot with no issues finding spaces or parking. ATMOSPHERE - The place was pretty big inside, which I liked since it seemed crowded but there were still some open tables and chairs.  There are TVs for those that like to watch sports or other things and enough tables for larger groups. The service was also on point as we had several people checking in on us throughout the night to make sure we were okay and if we needed anything.  Towards the end of the night though, I think they got caught up in cleaning and bussing tables so we had to make several efforts to flag someone down to get a box and the check. FOOD - The small combo is enough for two people if you get 1 other small side to share. You get a mixture of wings and drumsticks (I think it's 6 wings 3 drumsticks but could be wrong). SWEET CRUNCHY CHICKEN - was pretty good at first since the batter is crispy and light, but I think the downside was the chicken itself wasn't that flavorful and so when eating a drumstick, the flavor got a bit monotonous.   SOY GARLIC CHICKEN - probably my favorite of the two because it has more flavor.  Although it is on the saucier side so if you don't like saucier chicken, you probably won't like this one.   SEASONED FRIES - very crispy and good.  It seemed almost like garlic fries with the herbs on top and parmesan cheese but not overly seasoned or salty.  They give you a healthy portion, which is nice! TROPICAL LEMONADE - I love myself a fruit punch and this was tasty and had the right blend of lychee, passionfruit and hibiscus.  It wasn't overly sweet either. I love love this place! It's located in a quiet little plaza but they fixed up their space really nicely. Clean, open spacing with welcoming bar, many tvs and friendly staff. If you order online they give you a discount! I like that they have a craft beer fridge stocked that you can select from. I ordered the combo of wings and thighs with the 1/2 spicy 1/2 soy garlic sauces. Never misses. The flavors are really rich and the wings have the perfect amount of crispness and juiciness. The much anticipated grand opening of Almaden Bonchon many years ago, did not disappoint. Flavorful food, trendy decor, and energetic staff turned many venturing tastebuds into fans. Then... something happened over the next few years. I'm not sure exactly what...Perhaps, there was a change of ownership?? Who knows?! However, the quality of chicken appeared questionable, the sauce took on a funky taste, and the restaurant reeked of odors that were extremely uninviting. Needless to say, I stopped coming to this particular location. Then... something happened again! And this time, the changes were more recognizable. Almaden Bonchon is now under new management and guess what folks? Now, better than ever, the reputable deliciousness of Bonchon is back! I've been eating here at least 2-3 times per month since it reopened and I can genuinely say, you will not be disappointed. Doordashing is great, but in all seriousness, when that chicken craving inside of you hollers, throw on your most comfy outfit and slides, drive over to this location, and try their wings and beer on tap at the restaurant. Take my advice: make the drive to the Capitol Expressway location instead. Especially if you are trying bonchon for the first time. Because this location? Not a good representation of how delicious Bonchon is supposed to be! I don't know what happened to the Blossom Hill location but this is not what Bonchon is supposed to taste like. It didn't always used to be like this. I ate here a bunch around the same time it opened and it was delicious. But then I moved closer to the other one and haven't been here in a while. Well, I went today and something is very different and it is not good. The strips were a completely different breading, and the chicken was not good quality. I am sort of suspicious that they just bought some frozen chicken from Safeway and threw a bit of sauce on it. And speaking of the sauce! There was barely any, so the chicken was mostly dry. But what sauce was left on did not taste at all to the delicious soy garlic I am used to. The other item we got was the fried rice. And it tasted like fried rice that was cooked days ago and reheated and dried out in the microwave. Did I eat it? Yes. Did I enjoy it? Not really. Did I think it was worth the $40 we spent? Absolutely not. I gather from recent reviews on here that something has changed. Maybe new management? So I beg of whoever is owning it now, please change back to the way it was. They have a handy button on the table so you can stop your server if you need refills, napkins, etc but I've found it to be unnecessary. Interior is modern, clean and pleasant. Value The prices are actually pretty reasonable as you can split a small combo and a side with someone and walk away happy for around $12/ea. While the sides (so far) have been a complete miss there's no denying their fried chicken is superb and that alone makes them worthy of a 5-star review. I arrived on Labor Day around 1PM and it wasn't crazy busy which was nice. Parking was easy since there's a pretty large lot. The place looked new and was decorated nicely. They even had fancy buttons on the table to signal for the server, drinks, or the bill. The chicken was delicious, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside (warning: spicy is SPICY). And the seasoned fries were the best menu item. HOWEVER - Service was extremely slow. We were told that they were understaffed today, which makes sense for a holiday and that the chicken would come out quickly but other dishes may take more time. We ordered chicken strips and fries. The fries came out quickly and were delicious but we waited 45 minutes for our chicken strips. - The food was kind of expensive. There was a lunch menu at the other Bon Chon I visited but this location had no lunch menu and I thought appetizers were unreasonable pricey and the chicken was just more pricey than I expected. - The chicken strips looked unappetizing. While they were delicious (reason why in still giving 3 stars), they looked like fish fillets covered in sauce. I got past the funky look though and the chicken was delicious. - None of the fancy buttons worked :( and it was difficult to catch the attention of a server I might try it again. This review is long overdue as my love affair with fried chicken started many years ago. The drumsticks are huge if you like your chicken meaty. And if you prefer more skin and crunch, then wings are the way to go. Either way, the chicken remains amazingly crispy on the outside and moist on the inside even after picking up take out and eating it at home. The spicy flavor is my fav, but not everyone in my house can handle the heat...so we usually go half and half with soy garlic. I was surprised at how much I loved their French fries and the plain fried rice. They're both seemingly really simple dishes, but Bonchon makes them with so much flavor.
