My husband was thinking a certain type of equipment and David Bond explained options that were so much better. These folks are great. Bond's is an Austin institution, and has been forever, and the reason is obvious. Their work is terrific and they do what a lot of people don't know is possible - FIX television sets. TVs are expensive, and they have a lot of bells and whistles. Most of them last a long time, but some don't. And that's what happened to me. I have a 65 inch Samsung 4K TV that developed a white (bright) spot on the screen. The picture was there but there was too much light shining through this 'hot spot.' Turns out there's a panel of LEDs that creates light to offer up the picture through the LCD panel. Those LEDs have covers that diffuse the light for a smooth, evenly lit picture. If a cover falls off, you get a hot spot. That's what I had. Cost of new TV? $1000+. Cost of repair at Bond's $330, and they replaced the entire panel of LEDs to make sure I don't have the problem again. It was quick, easy, affordable, and they are just a classy outfit to deal with. Bond's did not recommend replacing my A/V until the last visit. I would have done so. In any case this is not about money - it's the principle. I have never pushed back on a bill with you before - this was one time where I had an issue and spoke up. Instead of being understanding you dug your heels in and basically said "I'm right, you're wrong." I found it rude and what was most annoying is that I have been a loyal customer for years and this is how you treat me? It's certainly not how I run my business. It's your prerogative but you lost a good customer. Congratulations. read more

We had Bond's TV out today to fix all that was wrong with our HomeTheater. There were several problems but the main one was that my old universal remote was going bad and getting worse. They came out and programmed a new remote and long story short everything is working like a charm. Pretty much push one button to start/stop TV or DVD changer or DVD Bluray player or CD. Got all the zones working so we can play CD's throughout the house now like it is wired for. Their guru for all this, Clint, is extremely nice and does he know his stuff. He fixed all the problems, some of which I had created. The universal controls they sell are worth every penny. I thought the price was reasonable, too. He spent several hours working on the theater. Also confirmed that my subwoofer was bad and is ordering a new one. they were low key, not pushing to sell me anything, in fact, I had to ask them if they could get me a subwoofer. One thing they might think about: I had seen Bond TV on the internet but they didn't stand out as being a home theater company because their name didn't say Bond TV and home theater. Definitely will use them again if needed. read more

Took my TV in after it wouldn't turn on. I was told that I would be called as soon as they have any information, and the average time to fix is 2-3 days. After 4 days and not hearing anything, I called them. After a few minutes waiting to talk to someone that had information, I was told that nothing was wrong with the TV and there was nothing to fix. They would pack it up for me to pick up and charge the full fee for over $100. I asked if the fee could be discounted considering that nothing was repaired, and they insisted no. Their recommendation was to wait for it to break again, and bringing it in again. I fully understand if an issue is intermittent and can't be reproduced, but to charge a full price when nothing was diagnosed or fixed is not acceptable to me. Considering that a higher rated repair show charges a $39 diagnostic fee, I would recommend that Yelp users choose to do business with that establishment instead. From looking at previous negative reviews of this company, I understand that 'Robert A' will likely be replying to this email, explaining how the company has been in business for nearly 60 years.... That really doesn't mean anything to me, I'm just reporting my experience. read more

I brought a powered studio monitor to Bond's to have the volume pot cleaned. Before I even told him the problem, he made sure to let me know that the minimum charge is $50+ dollars (including tax). When I told him the work that I needed done, he began the spiel about how the problem was likely due to the part wearing out. Now, this is a part that's barely used. The volume of this speaker is usually controlled at the source rather than using the speaker's volume pot itself. So, within minutes, I had been prepped for a minimum $50 charge and was being groomed for further charges to come, when all I really wanted was to have the pot cleaned. The clincher for me was being asked "How do I want to pay for that today". I wasn't feeling the warm fuzzies of trust with Bond's and told him that I was not comfortable paying for work that had not yet been done - even a minimum charge, to which he replied, "I can't help you then". My consumer spider senses were put on alert when I walked into the Bond's service department and the gent behind the counter didn't look up to great me, or even take a moment to say that he'd be with me momentarily. He just kept right on stapling the papers in front of him and only when he was done minutes later did he acknowledge my presence. From the very first moment of contact with Bond's, I get the sense that this is one of those business that requires me to have my guard up; that this is a business that is trying to wring money from me that isn't exchanged for value and positive experience. I don't want to do business with anyone that makes me feel that I have to defend myself from their incursions into my discretionary budget. I don't want to feel that I'm being preyed upon by someone I'm transacting with, but this is exactly how Bond's makes me feel: like prey. I chose Bond's because it's an electronics shop listed on my Go Local card, and I wanted to support a business that is an upstanding member of the local community, but "upstanding" is simply not a quality that I would attribute to Bond's. read more

Used Bond to install a whole home audio/video system in my new construction. They planned and installed the entire system. Ended up buying an LG TV from them as well. Don't think that big box stores give you a better price - Bonds will price match and give you small business service that the larger stores just cannot give. The whole house system works flawlessly and they've been out a few times to tweak the system to my liking. Kudos to Cory and Chris for their efforts. I strongly encourage folks to consider local, smaller businesses to preserve personalized service, neighborhood character and consumer choice. My 1997 panasonic 36" kept turning off and on. I called Deans and they suck. The guy laughed at me and told me to take it to goodwill. Then he started to complain that he didn't want to come out to my house and it would get pricey. So then I said " You don't want my money?" hung up on him and called BONDs. Christina and Cindy are great at customer service. Talked to me about pros and cons of fixing an old tv. Tony came out and I helped him load it in his van. My father has been trading with them for over 40 years. So my Sony rear-projection TV needed repair. A fan went out, and to get to it, the entire television needed to be disassembled. Not comfortable with doing that repair job myself, I took it into Bond's, the only place I am aware of that does this sort of repair in the Austin area. The shop is super cool, with old-timey TVs against one wall, from manufacturers such as Motorola, Quasar, and Signature. They even had a working old Coca-Cola bottle vending machine chugging very noisily in the corner, but unfortunately it had no soda in it. The repair folk were super courteous and helpful, helping unload the 60" beast from my tiny SUV. They took my $100 repair deposit, had it fixed in a few days, and the price was more than reasonable: about $350 total, for a job that I had heard goes for $400-$500 typically. I had to take a star off, however. They neglected to wipe down the inside of the screen while they had the TV open. There is definitely some accumulated dust inside, and I would have expected at least a cursory wipedown. Still, I would highly recommend them for any consumer electronics repair that can be done. We've become such a throwaway society that I marvel at their ability to stay afloat.... not much is repairable any more. read more

I called Bond's yesterday and received a quote of over $600 bucks to fix a convergence problem on my older Sony KP51WS510 rear-projection TV. I passed and was about to have my TV hauled away by Best Buy's recycling program, but decided to call another place recommended by the Sony website. Bill at Advanced Electronic Services gave me an over-the-phone quote of $230, and has just completed the repair. Picture looks GREAT! Bob Bond and the people that work at Bond's TV are the best. My 65" Mitsubishi DLP had a common but expensive problem after only four years. Bond's helped me navigate the Mitsubishi customer support process, and in the end , although I had to pay for labor, Mitsu paid for a $1000 part. The repair took less than 24 hours and the results are perfect. They are friendly, trustworthy and honest. I won't ever take a TV anywhere else. read more

When I have a TV or audio problem it is wonderful to know that I can call Bonds T.V. and they will help me. They are polite, courteous and understand the industry. I can also trust them. The first time I called them because the T.V. screen was not working. They were quick to diagnostic the problem and then let me know that I may qualify for a warranty on that repair. I looked into it and they were right. I only paid labor costs and the parts were covered saving me a lot of money. Next we purchased a T.V. they came and installed everything. Another repair man mentioned I needed to replace my speakers but David Bond quickly noticed I just needed a more powerful receiver, again saving me the cost of replacing all the speakers. They were polite and took extra time to explain how the system worked and made sure I was comfortable running the remote control. The third time I build out a movie room upstairs. I mentioned that I wanted quality speakers but not the top of the line as we are moving in a few years. David found a nice balance between our budget and good quality system. I took my flat screen, 2 year old television here to get repaired after reading the stellar reviews on Yelp. I walked in the front door with my television and the first thing the guy behind the desk did was yell at me for coming through the front door. The power supply seemed to have gone bad and I didn't think it would have been a big deal. It was about $80 with tax to get it looked at, and that cost would go to the repair. Seemed like a pretty good idea--it wasn't. I got a call the next day from Bonds telling me that it would be about $340 to fix the set. I obviously wasn't going to spend more than I paid for the set, so I told them I didn't want it repaired. They said I could use half of the $80 I'd already paid towards another set, but that was as far as my money would go. When I picked up my set, I had some questions for the guy about the issue. The guy had no idea and just said that the notes left in the system weren't very good and he couldn't really tell me what the problem was. He did offer to wheel my set out to my car though as I was kicked to the curb though. Unless you are absolutely certain you know what the problem is with your set and have some idea how much it should cost, take your set somewhere else for repair. I essentially paid $80 for a damned estimate which would have ranged from FREE-$20 anywhere else. Edit: After being contacted by Robert Bond, I feel that my bad experience with Bond's Televisions was a result of miscommunication. When I picked up my set, the counter guy could not give me any information regarding the problem with television set. I was not offered a credit, nor could he tell me what the issue was. I was told over the phone that half of my $75.72 could be applied towards a television, but not the entire sum. Feeling like I had gotten nothing for my money, as well as the almost insulting little help that the salesman offered me, resulted in a very frustrating experience. If I would have been told what Robert Bond had told me when I picked up my set, I feel that my experience would have been much less frustrating, and I wouldn't have felt so cheated. Due to the informative response that I received from Mr. Bond as well as the obvious time that was put into research, I feel much better about the whole situation and cannot hold Bond's Television responsible for the miscommunication that occured. My only continuing gripe is that if the salesperson was unable to answer my questions, he should have found someone that could. read more

Got a call a couple of weeks later to come pick it up, and had a great conversation with the founder of the company who was in on a late Friday afternoon serving customers as he's done for decades. I recently stumbled upon Bond's TV because I had a unique situation where my new house is wired for surround but the speaker connections come out in a different room on a non-adjacent wall. I had a large chain stereo company come out and they gave me a 20k estimate to get it wired with in-ceiling speakers! I kept trying to figure out a better solution for my poorly designed wiring and called Bond's TV from a google search. David Bond came out and gave me a written professional estimate that was less than third of the other companies quote, included a TV, and didn't trap the wires inside of the walls! (Note to builders - when you trap a cable that has a version number on it inside the sheet rock, like HDMI, there will probably be a newer one one day...) Anyway, I had to delay the project a few months, and pleasantly there was no high pressure sales pitch at all, just a one line email from David saying 'No problem, let me know when you're ready'. What a nice change. I finally got the work done and the new setup is amazing. All the AV equipment is nicely arranged in the AV closet, with detailed wire management. The assistant David brought out, Cody was outstanding, did a great job and knew all about a professional grade ubiquity POE switch I had and used hook everything up. David even was able to move the in-ceiling speakers further out towards the walls than the original wiring had planned for to improve the spatial qualities of the Atmos system, and the result is fantastic. Additionally he was also able to get an old URC 780 remote replaced for me under factory warranty as the display was fading out pretty badly. I had no receipt and no idea how old it was. Considering they are local, family owned and operated, and can match the big box stores prices, I don't know why you wouldn't give them a shot. They've got a local reputation to keep and they do that with outstanding customer service, knowledge, and attention to detail. Customer Service is almost non existent these days. It is alive and well at Bonds though!! I have to say that David could not have been any more professional in helping me with my audio and video issues. He came out at the appointed time to diagnose our problems. He recommended a solution and immediately went about getting the equipment that day to resolve it. After he programmed our audio/video remote and left i had some issues with some of the commands on the remote. I dropped by the store to convey the issues and he said he would come out to resolve them free of charge. He did just that and all is working beautifully. Thanks David and Team Bond!! read more

Went in yesterday expecting to pay $400 or more to fix my big screen TV, Instead, it took only a few minutes for them to realize that it was only the lamp that needed to be fixed, and they could have it fixed within minutes for $140. Not only was I out of the store within twenty minutes of having being there, they didn't even charge me for service fees or diagnostic fees. The owner even offered to show me how to replace it myself, in case I need to get it replaced again and want to avoid paying for maintenance fees. They had great customer service and an interesting history to the store. I will definitely be returning there again if I ever have any more troubles with my television. read more
