It's ironic that this review comes after one for a gourmet diet delivery service; but maybe it's a good thing. If you try the Bonefish Grill ... get a ultra smooth apple martini!!!!!!!! After a long day (and that last review) it was just what the doctor ordered. This is my first time here (amazingly) but I was very glad to try it ... and especially glad to hit that apple martini. Okay, I said that. Bonefish is located in the "clock tower corner" mall and has a casual/dressy feel to it. The chef actually seated us; and the remainder of the service was quite good. One pet peeve of mine: don't rush me! Fortunately, the pacing was great. We were able to peruse the menu while drooling over fresh bread, olive oil, and pesto dippers. We also really enjoyed the grilled romaine. Overall, the menu is very complete and includes a number of nice non fish options that looked quite good, too, but bring on the Bang Bang Shrimp. I feel with a name like that there should be some mystery surrounding it so I will leave it at that. It was delicious. My coworker went with the talapia and had herb roasted reds with a mountain of fresh grilled veggies. Amazingly, we both refrained from dessert, mostly because we were stuffed. No question, this will be a place to come back to. It seems to fit almost every occasion from date night to a working business meal to girls night food to a family party. The hubby and I LOVE us some Bonefish Grill! ;) My tip? Make a reseration! Whenever we've gone we've always had a reservation and were seating quite promptly, otherwise its been an hour plus wait! Yikes! (Usually on a Saturday evening or special holiday). The service here alone gets the 5 stars! They are so friendly and aim to please. EVERYONE that works there acknowledges you and greets you/says hi! I love it! This time, the hubby ordered the pecan crusted rainbow fish and I ordered the chicken (normally shrimp) fetuccini. Both were amazing! I started off with a delicious ceaser salad and he got the tempura with crab and steak (SO SO GOOD! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). For this Bonefish, it's all about the service. Our server was hospitable, funny, accommodating and had great attention to detail. Oh, and our food wasn't bad, either. From the mussels were very yummy with all their garlicky goodness, to the Jamaican coconut pie (chess pie -- hot and rummy!), it was all good. The only oddity was the seasonal side dish which was chickpeas. Chickpeas? I don't think anyone at our table ate all of our side. Save them for the hummus appetizer. We'll be back! read more

Bonefish Grill is a nice seafood alternative that delivers great fish. The dishes are prepared with a variety of sauces and combinations of vegetables to give the entire meal a unique flavor. Thankfully, it's just not bland fish dishes that are not imaginative at all. We had the bacon wrapped scallops and crab cakes for appetizers before our meal. We enjoyed the crab cakes and sauce that came with it - very tasty. The bacon wrapped scallops were cooked perfectly and the mango salsa was tasty and added a bit of spice. I had the bang bang tacos - which is their spicy shrimp tacos. There are two to a serving but they are pretty large tacos. I enjoyed them with the side salad with my meal. The hit meal of the table was probably the mussels - they were a bit heavy on the garlic in the broth that they were served in, but overall it was a very good dish. Everyone fully enjoyed their meal and all were cooked appropriately. The chimichuri sauce that came with the shrimp and scallop dish was tasty and added to the overall flavor of that dish. All in all - it was a very well done meal that was enjoyed by all. The service was good - our server Katelyn was attentive and was knowledgeable of the menu and specials. We waited about 15 minutes despite having reservations on a busy Saturday night. The crowd was a bit older in general but it was also Mother's Day weekend so that could have had something to do with it. The only drawback was that the martini's ordered didn't quite live up to the expected flavor of the menu - the blueberry martini tasted like it was a citrus martini. So you may want to stay away from it... Overall - very good seafood at an affordable price. read more

Really good food here. There's a little bit of a fishy smell as you walk in, but, don't let that fool you. The fish is fresh and fabulous. We had the sea bass and the tilapia. We were looking for a restaurant in Schaumburg; after hearing zillions of ads on WGN, we thought we'd give Bonefish a try. Initial impressions weren't great. We had to ask for sugar for Mom's coffee, although cream was delivered with the coffee. Bread was delivered with olive oil & parm; we would have been happier with butter. (Butter was offered to other tables; why didn't our server offer it to us?) The menu is on the limited side; after all, it IS a fish place. I settled on the Kobe burger; Mom got the bang bang shrimp appetizer. Gotta tell you - we were VERY pleasantly surprised. The shrimp appy, had it been listed as a meal, was enough for three people. (Mom wound up taking more than half of it home.) My burger was out of this world, and the house-made chips were AWESOME and delivered warm. Wow, it was good. Especially odd - an amazing burger at a fish place. We didn't have dessert on this trip; maybe we'll try them next time. And I do believe there will be a next time. read more

I came here with my family for an after Christmas dinner. We got there at 8:30 on a Wednesday night and the restaurant was pretty busy still. We had reservations so we were seated fairly quickly, although our table wasn't pre-set with utensils and napkins. Our server was quite animated and amicable. The artisan bread was pretty good. We started off with the bang bang shrimp and the calamari. The shrimp was bang bang good! Plus it was Wednesday, so it was only $5! And the calamari sauce was tasty as well. I ordered the pecan parmesan crusted rainbow trout. It was delicious. I couldn't finish it all and it was a generous serving that lasted for a second meal. The cocktails were good too - I had a margarita - pretty tasty. Overall, it was a great experience. The restaurant was nicely decorated and had a very classy ambience to it. I recently went to Bonefish for Valentine's Day and was extremely pleased with our experience. Our waiter was really nice and was very helpful with some questions I had about the menu. I ordered the Mahi Mahi and it was excellent! I especially loved that they just grilled it and then I got a choice of a few sauces that came on the side so I could try a few different tastes. I also suggest getting the signature red sangria...so tasty! I planned Valentine's Day this year and wanted to go to a nicer restaurant than usual but not somewhere with a ridiculous price tag. Bonefish fit the bill perfectly! I also want to mention how perfect the portions were! I was able to finish my entire entree without over stuffing myself or feeling bad about leaving something on my plate. We celebrated our anniversary and the staff was very accommodating. We order the Sea Bass (pan Asian) and the Mahi. The Nahi was over cooked and they quickly replaced it. Unfortunately, the second serving was inedible. We are not sure why the Mahi was so unsatisfactory unless it was a bad batch. Disappointing that the scalloped potatoes are no longer offered. Tried to order two chocolate martinis, but they were out of Godiva liqueur. I don't recommend an expression martini, it's not as tasty. read more

As a first time experience the service was terrible but overall the food was delicious. We walked in and were told it was an hour wait. The hostess took our name and number and said she'll call us when the table is ready. We decided to drink at the bar while waiting on our table. The bartender got snotty after we made sure we got the right drinks. An hour into waiting without a call, we check on our table. Turns out they had tables available but forgot to let us know. By the time they took our orders and brought our food it was closing time and we felt rushed to get out. I love the food and Tiki Martini at Bonefish. We have been there multiple times with family and friends. We were there last Tuesday with an out of town guest. The service this time was just horrible, i mean really HORRIBLE. We ordered 2 Tuesday special which consist of salad, entree and dessert among other things. 1. They brought out one salad really quick and forgot the other salad, when we asked for it they brought the wrong one with the entree. 2.We have to keep on reminding the staff to bring the beer that was ordered awhile back. 3. We ordered the happy hour mussels and was brought the full size order. 4. The waiter asked us if we want dessert. He was reminded that it was part of the Tuesday special. We asked for the menu but he told us the choices for the special. We ordered Creme brulee. 5. The bill came, we were charged for the creme brulee for it was not part of the special, he was nice enough to remove the charges. 6. When we asked to split the bill in 2 credit cards, he charged one credit card for he got "distracted" by another server. He told us which CC was charged and apologized for his mistake. So I gave my friend CASH for my part of the bill. 7. Today i found out that it was MY cc that was charged not my friend's. I hope her cc was not charged too. Now it will be tacky if i ask for my cash back from a friend. As i said before we love Bonefish, but this experience was not pleasant especially having an out of town guest. Will I go back? I love sea-food especially shrimp and fish. So, had wanted to visit this place since quite a long time. Finally, made it on a saturday night. We had made reservations beforehand and were immediately led to our table. The place wasn't much crowded probably because we reached around 9.00 pm. The ambiance was great and had the prefect lighting. A good place for a romantic dinner. As soon as we sat on the table, they served us the complimentary fresh hot bread with the parmesan-pesto sauce (sauce was a bit let down although bread was super fresh & hot). The waiter was warm and friendly and announced the day's special drilling down to the intricate details of the dish. It helped a lot in ordering the right dish that suited our palate. The cranberry juice they offered was okay. I have come to realize that many restaurants don't give you much choice when it comes to fresh fruit juices. This was the case at bonefish too. We later ordered the big bang shrimp and it was good with the right amount of crunch and sauce (sauce did not destroy the crunch as I had feared) We went ahead and ordered our entrees - the day's special soft shell crab filled with crab meat and the chilean sea bass grilled fish (popular guest choice) with chimmichuri sauce. The presentation was good although it could have been done better. The crab dish was fab and was supposed to be eaten with the shell. I was initially skeptical, but the waiter assured its edibility and I went ahead with having the shell too. It was prepared well and worth it. However, the steamed broccoli didn't seem as fresh. The sea bass and the sauce were good too. We especially enjoyed the sea bass fish. The garlic whipped potatoes offered wasn't good though and it remained untouched on the plate. Desserts were good too, we found the portion too large for a person. We ordered a strawberry shortcake and the Jen Jamaican coconut pie as I love coconut based desserts. The coconut pie was amazing and even the strawberry dish, they served fresh strawberries. The only disappointing thing was the biscuit (we had better expectations like a cake or something) in the strawberry shortcake. This is a chain restaurant (came as a surprise to us). To conclude, we liked the place, wasn't as expensive as we had thought to be. One should try this place once and try ordering the day's specialty. read more

Folks, you don't have to like shrimp to love this signature dish at Bonefish--The" Bang Bang Shrimp" truly is one of the most amazing things you will ever put in your mouth. I've grown up in a family that is very particular about fish. We know fresh from frozen, and don't settle for anything less than quality. I've been in and out of seafood restaurants trying to pull tricks like passing common farm raised salmon as high grade Norwegian under a hefty price, so when my buddies recommended we try the Bonefish in Schaumburg, I went into extreme critic mode the moment I walked in. It's a nice place. All three of us noted the jazzy lounge music paired well with the classy scope of the room, where candlelit tables warm the deep, darker shades of the inside. Our waiter did his job right from start to finish- arriving promptly after we sat down, giving the three of us enough time to decide on our choices, and checking on us at the appropriate moments. In fact, there was a moment after he took our orders that he realized he forgot to ask me which sides I wanted with my fish, and sincerely apologized for it. I actually never noticed the option to begin with, so the fact that we wound up chuckling over it made for far less of an awkward moment. We started off by splitting the bang bang shrimp. You get about fifteen or so pieces of small, crispy shrimp coated with spicy cream sauce on a bed of lettuce, and it was absolutely fantastic. It's not terribly spicy at all, and if you like shrimp tempura, it's similar to that in taste and texture, but with a kick. For drinks, all three of us were curious about the Hawaiian Orchid martini, so we each had one and judged the tropical concoction of coconut, pineapple, guava rum and pear- complete with an edible orchid. The verdict? Outstanding times three. Having never eaten orchids before, that itself was an interesting experience- the flowers don't have much of a flavor at all, but they were crunchy. Anyway, it was very good! I could have gone with another! Now, the actual food: My buddies took advantage of the lunch specials, one having the bang bang shrimp tacos (you know a second round of that shrimp is saying something), and the other the spicy tuna bowl. I put Bonefish to the test by choosing an entree of grilled fish, opting for the rainbow trout. The nice thing about this place is that you can decide if you want any of their grilled fish paired with a general slice of lemon, or if you want it prepared with a type of sauce option. There's a variety that is sure to meet anyone's preference; I went with tomato garlic. By the time I had my first bite, I did not regret that one bit. My trout was neither dry nor too soft, and there was not anything about the fish that hinted at any strange flavors, nor a lack of flavor (the latter which generally suggests frozen fish). In my book, all was well and good, and my friends had no complaints regarding their entrees. Actually, we only took issue with dessert- The key lime pie wasn't the best. The filling tasted fine, but we mutually agreed the texture was too thick, almost gelatinous. Still, hardly a major disappointment compared to the overall experience. When I voiced my disappointment, Megan said she would check if they could still make it. Much to my surprise, she said her manager said he would make the sauce so I could have that entree. So I didn't have a hugely horrible experience but I definitely wasn't impressed either and won't be coming back. To level set, if I give a place three stars it means I would go back or an element of ambiance, drinks, food, service impressed me enough to redeem them. For my two star rating, I wasn't impressed with the ambiance, service or food. We ordered the bang bang shrimp as people raved about it. I was disappointed. There was so much sauce slathered on that it was overwhelming. I don't mind some sauce as it compliments the shrimp and flavor. But this was just way too much and not my preference. It was like spicy mayo with seasoning just slathered on. If you like a lot of sauce then maybe this is for you but I would pass. We also ordered the mussels - which this was the one redeeming factor - the butter sauce was delish - I loved dipping my bread in it and they were cooked just right. I definitely recommended ordering. For the main course, we order soup and fish. The fish was a little over cooked and the soup was so salty and the red peppers in it overpowered any other flavor. As for the service, the waiter was very nice and friendly. However, everything seemed a bit slow and we weren't checked up on enough. My table of three kept asking for a refill on drinks and water and had to remind our waiter a few times. Having salty food and no water isn't the best. But he was nice and apologized which I appreciated but still impacted my opinion of the place. So for me this place is a pass which is diss appointment given the reviews I read and the recommendations I received from a friend. Hopefully you have a better experience. read more

The dinner started out right with a delicious order of Bonefish's famous Bang-bang shrimp and continued with a flavorful Caesar salad presented on an ice cold plate, which keeps the lettuce nice and cold. Then things went down hill quickly.... Of five diners, only two enjoyed their meals. My daughter ordered grilled chicken from the kid's menu and was brought Mac n'cheese- which, she is not a fan of. The waiter corrected the order, but it took nearly 20 minutes, which to a starving kid is an eternity. My other daughter order the Atlantic salmon. Her fish was dry and tasteless. I ordered two cold water lobster tails- I was brought the lobster, but without the drawn butter. When I identified this to the server, he acknowledged the error and disappeared. Ten minutes later and my food now cold, our waiter finally showed up to ask how the food was. When I identified the issue, he went to correct it. Five minutes later, he arrived with COLD drawn butter- he assured me it was hot, but the chunks of unmelted butter told a different story. I should have called for the manager, but since it was my wife's birthday dinner, she asked me not to make a scene. Another complaint from all the diners, was that we all ordered the "seasonal" vegetables- which apparently tonight was steamed, soggy broccoli. Were is the summer squash or carrots or some sort of summer greens?!?! In conclusion, this was a terrible experience and I doubt a craving for Bang-bang shrimp will be strong enough to bring us back. read more
