Our server, Meredith, was excellent tonight for our dinner, though I do agree that the front check in man who was soft spoken and took such a long time to find our reservation though we told him our name twice. Then he asked twice more what name the reservation was under. Finally as he walked us to our booth, he asked how many were in our party. My eyes popped open as the two of us followed him. My husband enjoyed Pan Asian Butter fish with a delicious generous portion of spinach. Meanwhile I did NOT enjoy my overcooked Asparagus and defo felt that the dinner special of Unicorn was not for me. The bread was delicious served warm with an herbal seasoned olive oil that was also generous. Basically we informed Meredith about my feelings when she inquired. She said she was sorry. The place was full and noisy as there was a wine dinner inside.

Dinner tonight started a little off - showed up on time for reservations made several weeks before. Young man was so soft spoken that it seemed like he didn't care about dealing with us. After stating our name, reservation time and size of party multiple times, he woke up and asked if we were here for the event? (Turns out they were having a wine dinner). We reiterated that no, we had reservations for the two of us for dinner. He seemed confused and said he thought we wanted to join the party. Another young lady pointed out something on their system and we were placed at a table right next to the large party - not ideal, but what can you do? Our waitress, Merideth, was excellent and explained the menu well, highlighting the various specials and answered all our questions. The complimentary bread with accompanying herbed oil was fresh and delightful. My Pan-Asian Butterfish was fantastic, and the spinach was cooked beautifully (so easy to overcook!). Wife had the special, Unicorn fish, as we had never had this before. Good and well cooked. But not our favorite. Her asparagus, however, was steamed, bland and extremely overcooked. I definitely won! Nice enough meal, and decent enough options, but a little pricy for what you receive.

Not only the server but the manager and 2 others came and spoke to us. It was my daughter's birthday and we were in a rush. The server got her a brownie to go with a little candle. It was very nice. The steak was the best. The filet and the strip had different tastes and they were both great. They were also perfectly cooked. Amazing. The seafood trio was the same. Perfectly cooked. The sauces were different under each item. The crab cake sauce was very good. The sauce under the scallops was my favorite. They were cooked amazing and so buttery. The shrimp was also perfect. No complaints. My daughter loved the Mac and cheese and it was also a huge shareable portion. This is by far our new date night place. 10/10 recommend

We ordered a Diners burger, Virginia burger, and house wings. The Burgers were borderline inedible due to the huge amount of salt. If i had been dining in I would have sent it back. I would not feed that much salted meat to my dog. The burgers dampness also had literally demolished the lower bun and iceberg lettuce. So i had to disgard those sodding blobs. The Virginian burger also salty, and the crab cake, small and underwhelming. The Chicken wings tasteless and dry. On too of this i had no choice but to pay a 10% tip for "take out prepare ". K'Bola is an adaption of "¿Qué bolá?", which is Spanish Caribbean slang used in Cuba that translates to "what's up?" and is typically used as a casual greeting close friends and family.) For starters, we shared a plate of fried Yucca (Yuca Frita) - Lightly fried and crispy! also enjoyed a bowl of black beans (Frijol Negro), spiced just right. I had some scrumptious Tostones. For our main dishes, I savored the Cubano sandwich which is a fave of mine and knowing that K'Bola offers a chicken Cubano is a bonus for my wife who doesn't eat red meat. We took the bread pudding home to enjoy later as we were pretty well satiated from our meals. Our server was super-friendly and attentive. We also imbibed some Dominican Republic beer for added "flavor ambiance". The new setting is a very comfortable one. Entering K'Bola is a step into a wonderful Cubano atmosphere. (It's located behind another of our favorite food haunts in Bilsburg, the Dog Street Cafe.) We look forward to our next visit!

The beef empanada had a great fried exterior but the filling fell flat. The ham croqueta was actually amazing, and I wish I had more of it. The fried yuca was fine but nothing special. And the sauces that came with this appetizer were pretty good. I ordered the vaca frita, under the impression that it would be flavorful and have a caramelized crisp on the outside. It had no flavor. I didn't see a speck of seasoning. The beef was chewy and isn't have the crisp that it was supposed to have. I squeezed the lemon that came with it over the meat and it did nothing for it. The vegetales salteados (roasted veggies) and the plantains were both delicious. I ordered a Coke Zero and was given a bottle, which was fine but not expected. The bottle had an expiration date of a month ago. Didn't realize it until about halfway through. We sat next to the door and had to swat at a fly and gnat throughout the meal. Annoying but i don't know what they could've done about that.

It always sucks to have to write a tough review for a place that does seem to try so hard…read more Unfortunately, the food here really has much room for improvement. Let's start with the good. There's plenty of parking and the ambiance of this place is memorable, in a really dated (like borderline cheesy nautical decor) 80's kind of way. This place is also insanely dark, which seems to try and convey a romantic atmosphere, but it's just plain dark if you ask me. Now sadly, the food really is, for lack of a better word, pretty bad across the board. If there's anything on the menu you should stay the hell away from, it's definitely the French onion soup. The soup itself was so salty, it was absolutely inedible. It was promptly sent back and replaced with a clam chowder, which was on the other end of the spectrum - totally bland and absolutely devoid of any meaningful flavor. The entrees were no better. The stuffed flounder was expensive but tasted nowhere close to the price tag. The fish, like the chowder, was completely devoid of flavor and was not seasoned. The crab stuffing was mushy and not appetizing. Generally speaking, there was nothing appetizing about the meal, including the palate cleanser, which had no discernible taste as well (even though it was supposed to be some kind of lime sherbet of sorts). Again, this place tries hard to be upscale, but absolutely falls flat on the food. Even the rolls and opening weird coffee cake like kind of bread they serve were bland or tasted off. The service was also spotty and confusing all night. Our server was friendly and did do her best to keep up, but generally the food took a long time and it took 20 minutes to even get water. At least the host was friendly and the staff in general did seem to try their best despite being not up to par to the kind of upscale experience they try to emulate. At least the meal ended alright. The flambe dessert (I chose peach) was a nice little show, mostly because this old fashioned dated experience is literally nowhere to be seen in the NYC area these days, so it was nice to sort of relive a cheesy memory. The taste of the dessert was also a nice throwback to older times, though I'm not sure if this was meant to be an actual nostalgia trip here. In the end, given the presence of better dining options close by, I'd say you're better off going somewhere else.

Rocco's Smokehouse kept popping up when we searched for places to eat, so we decided to give it a shot. We weren't really in the mood for barbecue, and they only had ONE steak option, but the menu looked so interesting that we figured, why not? There was about a 15-20 minute wait, which immediately had me thinking, "Okayyy, maybe we made the right choice!" The atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and had a great vibe. IMPORTANT: Navigation took us to the wrong location, so pay close attention to the Yelp directions. Rocco's is currently operating from a temporary location. Once we were seated, our waiter was right over to take our drink order. First things first--the sweet tea is MAGNIFICENT! And let me tell you what you NEED to order: Smoked barbecue wings -- MUST ORDER -- absolutely get it! Rocco actually brought it to our table and warned us that we would be hooked and he was right! I originally wanted the lump crab cakes, but I didn't see anyone else ordering them, so I took my waiter's recommendation and went with the brisket quesadillas. GREAT decision! They were juicy, flavorful, and downright scrumptious. My partner ordered Platter #3, which came with ribs, a quarter chicken, and pork barbecue. The chicken was his favorite--he could not stop talking about it! You could really taste that smoky flavor in the meat. The macaroni and cheese was pretty good too. Honestly, I was pleasantly surprised by Rocco's. We went in craving steak and left talking about smoked wings, chicken, brisket, and barbecue! Would I go back? Absolutely! And next time, those crab cakes are getting ordered! #WilliamsburgVA #WilliamsburgEats #VirginiaFoodie #RoccosSmokehouse #Foodie #YelpEats #BBQ #FoodReview #VirginiaRestaurants
