They offered entrees but also a breakfast buffet. We opted to do the buffet, which was great and fresh since we arrived right at opening. While staying at the Williamsburg Lodge I was offered free breakfast here each day... I only came one of the two mornings I stayed here to try their breakfast. The hostess was kind of challenged in being able to keep up with just the few parties waiting to enter... service from her was very slow and aloof. Once seated, service was great. The selection of what they give in the in the "continental breakfast" was great, as it was a typical full buffet, just not their specialties and honestly, that was all I needed. The eggs were decent. The English muffins were hard and stale, clearly left out from the day before - yuck. The bacon was great. The venue was nicely decorated in the typical Williamsburg period décor, which is appealing considering it's the norm for the area. Overall - I'd definitely not come here for a meal I had to pay for, but for a complimentary meal, it'll do. read more

We loved the breakfast buffet at Traditions restaurant in the Williamsburg Lodge! we booked the Americas historic triangle package, which came with two adult breakfast buffets every morning. it was everything you could want from an American breakfast buffet. Omelettes made to order, great, scrambled eggs, pancakes, French, toast, fruit, oatmeal, and all the trimmings. Everything was delicious Rochelle took fantastic care of us! Robert was really outstanding. He seemed to connect with every guest and genuinely cared about your experience! The restaurant was inviting and had a classic feel. Great service. Attentive staff. For lunch, I ordered the Italian Toastie with fries. The sandwich was not what I expected but that's my fault for not reading the menu close enough. The sandwich came with an olive tapenade and I hate olives so I had to scrap it off. Unfortunately it was hard to get it all off and that combined with the malt vinegar taste, I didn't even eat the second half of the sandwich. It was just not enjoyable. The fries on the other hand were crispy and delicious. For breakfast, I ordered the Traditions Breakfast which had two scrambled eggs, bacon, and potatoes and rye toast. Overall pretty good. Potatoes were kind of hard and small. Eggs were good. Bacon was crispy. And the thick cut rye toast looked homemade and was delicious with some strawberry jam. They have a moderately sized dining room that is usually open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Sometimes they have a continental breakfast buffet as well as a full breakfast menu. read more

Traditions inside the Williamsburg Lodge is okay. Would return? I probably would give it another shot. The service was excellent, the staff was very patient and friendly, as we hosted a business luncheon. The food was average, to slightly above average but for the price, it was a little disappointing. A Cobb Salad with Shrimp was ~$25. Even for the tourist trap that is Williamsburg, that was expensive. I certainly wont go out of my way to eat there again but if someone asked to go there for a lunch, I would give it another chance. But I wouldnt drive out of the way to eat there again. read more

My family and I went to the special occasion brunch and wow! The food was to die for; everything was amazing. It's the kind of place where you have to try everything because it seems like nothing was done wrong. Our waitress was very attentive and kind; our drinks were never left empty. The only reason I give it four stars is because of our interaction with the host and hostess. I don't even know if you could call it an interaction because they practically ignored us. The host told the hostess that the group of 5 had arrived and then just motioned for us to follow him while he continued to flirt with the hostess. I ended up getting several items off the room service menu and I was really impressed. I had shrimp and grits as an appetizer and it was amazing.... I wanted a second helping! I also had a chicken panini with a side Cesar salad and a pecan pie for dessert. It was so nice to have the food delivered on a nice cart with a rose too! Came here for breakfast. Great service. I like to have hot tea with my breakfast and hate it when the hot water is lukewarm. The server was very good about making sure that the tea was good and the water was boiling hot. The breakfast buffet is quite extensive but without an omelette station. Nonetheless the biscuits with southern gravy were great! The decor of the restaurant is also quite charming like the hotel itself. I was seated in a room with wood paneling and a fireplace. Scallops precooked and small, prime rib pre-carved and overdone with poor flavor, crab legs with minimal flavor and small and crab au gratin is deviled crab. Poached shrimp were quite good. Overall very poor quality for this price point. 10 years ago much larger scallops that were seared on demand, strip roast that was carved to order, much larger crab legs. Went for the "Grand Illumination " buffet for $55 per person. Very disappointed! It was advertised as a salad and soup bar and dessert buffet with a plated entree. Salad bar was 3 prepared salads and one soup (which they ran out of), dinner was a buffet instead of plated and consisted of 1 chicken dish, 1beef dish and 1 mussels dish and a couple of side items. Dessert buffet was some small items that were not identified and cold bread pudding with cold caramel sauce. Dessert also was not refreshed very quickly and so selection was limited by that as well. To top it off a 20% gratuity was added to the bill, the only thing our waiter did was refill the water glasses, hardly meriting a $22 tip! read more

I have only had the breakfast buffet here, so this review speaks to that. Pros: -LOTS of delicious food. The biscuits and gravy are my favorite. I usually use this meal as my lunch, breakfast, and in lieu of a large dinner. It fills you up for the rest of the day. Cons: -It is a little pricey. Not bad if you intend to fill up for the rest of the day, but this is not the place for a light breakfast. Be prepared to pull an all-American gorge-fest to make the price worth it. read more

I had the breakfast buffet which included fresh fruit pastries at we're good scrambled eggs on what's and pancakes oatmeal and grits. For meat they had little link sausages and bacon which could have been crispier. Service was good the waitress stop by every few minutes to make sure everything was okay and to fill the coffee in the water. Dinner was completely different. The seafood there is great. I had the crab cake which was made with huge lumps of crab! I didn't see any breading. The halibut with collard greens were excellent too. The waiter was very nice and would actually make conversation. Breakfast was all business but attentive. They also have excellent beers on tap and an excellent wine list. The atmosphere was completely different for dinner. All they did was lower the lighting. What a difference. read more

This review is purely for the breakfast buffet only. We ate here for the 3 mornings of our stay. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. Our drink orders were brought out promptly and the check was delivered quickly. The buffet had a lot to choose from - cereal, yogurt with granola, fresh fruit, oatmeal, grits, pancakes/french toast, bacon, sausage, eggs, omelets, toast, pastries. The food was fresh and tasty. The buffet was included in our package, but normally is $15.95 a person...a price we would have gladly paid anyway. read more

We had a really lovely lunch here. The craft, seasonal cocktails were superb and my chicken sandwich was outstanding. My husbands wings with the bourbon bbq were some of the best I've ever had. The kids hamburger was a great portion and very high quality for a kids meal. The service was perfection but the marvelous Ziko (?? Niko? Sorry don't remember) who gave our son a cookie. Waited over an hour for the food to come. When we asked for some mini muffins (previously offered) to tide us over, they didn't come for about half an hour. When asked about it again, the waiter said "Oh, I guess I'll bring those myself." Not sure what that was about. After 45 mins, we asked about our food and the waiter blamed a member of our party for having an allergy, saying that was the reason that it was taking so long. Considering he ordered a dish that had no allergens in it already, we found it hard to believe, and a little rude to single out something that a person can't control. When the food finally came, the home fries were steaming hot, with the actual entrees very lukewarm. The food itself was nothing special- just regular breakfast fare. At the end, instead of apologizing for the wait and the sarcastic comments made throughout our time there, the waiter insisted he did "all he could." While the bar and lounge here is wonderful, we won't be returning to Traditions. read more

He took care of us and is very attentive & thoughtful without being overbearing. Food choices were varied - cold cereals & fruits to a cheese board and any number of cooked/hot foods. Yes, it's more expensive than the other seafood buffets in the area, and that's because it's head and shoulders above them in the quality of the food and service offered. Our daughter is vegan, and we contacted them prior to eating here, and they designed a five course menu for her which they e-mailed to us. When we arrived they had a specially printed menu, and the chef came out and introduced himself and went over the menu with her: Amuse Beet Carpaccio Grapefruit, Sweet Pickled Shallot Soup Summer Peach and Lemongrass Bisque Thai Basil Oil Appetizer Forest Mushroom Cannelloni Citrus "Ricotta", Parsnip Emulsion Entrée Summer Ratatouille Fresh Market Vegetables, Smoked Tomato Broth Ciabatta Crostini Dessert American Heritage Panna Cotta Raspberry Reduction Again, keep in mind this is a buffet, and they went to all this trouble. Simply outstanding customer service! For our food, the poached lobster, pan seared scallops, and the fresh catch fish really stood out. The only mild disappointment for me were the raw oysters; I assume they were James River oysters, and I prefer them with more brine, and the key lime pie which had a gelatin consistency; although, it tasted fine. We have stayed at the lodge many many times, We have eaten at this restaurant many many time, but this time was horrible enough for me to leave a review. 35 minute wait to be seated for breakfast, 50 minute wait for 2 orders of eggs benedict and 1 order of oatmeal. Server gave us coffee when seated, never came back, got up to get my own refill of coffee and was promptly yelled at. When I asked the manager where my food was, he said nothing. only when I sat back down after getting yelled at for getting my coffee did the server come back and ask if we wanted more coffee... very frustrating and at best, too little too late. We finally got our food.... the poached eggs were hard boiled, no yolk at all, just hard boiled egg nuggets coated in congealed sauce over crumbly cold buscuits. highly disappointed in the food that we got charged over $50 for. We had our first breakfast here and our last. Yikes, what a miserable meal. We were seated promptly and decided to order off the menu. I ordered coffee, fruit and the their version of Eggs Benedict plus orange juice. The coffee was simply awful. It tasted burnt and just bad. The server was very nice about switching it out for tea, which was great. The orange juice was adequate and our server let us know that we could have free refills which was surprising but welcome news. I requested no melon and our server asked if I only wanted pineapple then. I decided to also have cantaloupe. The cantaloupe was lightly orange, hard and tasteless. The pineapple was warm and bland. The eggs benedict was with Virginia ham and I obviously was not aware how salty it was. I could not eat it. The eggs were cold as was the sauce. I left most of it. Our server was cute, nice and accommodating. And I loved the hot tea! read more

We came here for the Thanksgiving dinner. We originally had reservations at 845 but called that day to see if there were any cancelations, and we were able to sit at 5 pm! The good thing about the dinner is you can pick from three different courses (soup, salad, and entree) with a $10 dessert buffet bar. I ordered a salad which included a cheese bowl, a turkey ball soup, and the prime rib with potatoes and string beans. I would suggest skipping the dessert bar because the desserts were not that great. Dinner took us about 2 hours, which is way longer than how it takes us to eat at hone. Rejoice in the Return of Friday night Seafood Buffet! My husband and I just found out they have returned to Traditions, where we used to enjoy their seafood buffet for years. Everything was great. The she crab soup was full of crab meat and flavor. The prime rib was roasted with rosemary and marbly for a luscious flavor. The scallops were cooked in butter right in front of you. They offered hot and cold crab legs, melted butter, cold lobster, cold shrimp with a sauce. Barbecue brisket, a very fresh smoked salmon salad, Caesar salad, and a third salad with peaches, cubed cheeses, oysters, fried calamari, macaroni with lobster, mashed potatoes, at least four homemade desserts, and other tasty dishes. It's $40/person, not including drinks. Yes, it's more expensive than another HUGE local seafood buffet at Captain George's, but the quality of the food is much higher. Please remember you get what you pay for. Please go to this Friday night Seafood Buffet so that Mitchell Reiss doesn't have a reason to close it. read more

Not impressed. Great decor, clean, good service, decent variety, but the food is lackluster. I had the breakfast buffet one day and though I tried many of the items, I left feeling cheated. The only thing that I truly enjoyed was the bread pudding! The following day I returned for breakfast and this time ordered from the menu. I got a poached egg on top of asparagus which was ok. The house granola mixed with yogurt was kinda chewy, and my bf's mail of Virginia Ham/eggs benedict type thing was EXTREMELY salty. Beef tenderloin was delicious. The Caesar salad was dripping wet in salad dressing. Some of the desserts were good while others were not. The waitress did not know the menu by heart and had to constantly go back to get notice on what the wine of the day was and special of the day... Went for the Christmas Day buffet. Food was decent but they had a seared scallop station right in the middle of the buffet setup. Since it took so long to make the scallops the line was always backed up and wrapped around the buffet area. They should have had the scallop station near the end of the buffet instead, or at least asked those who were waiting for scallops to move to the side. As I said the food was decent but not worth $50 (plus tax and gratuity) per person. Drinks and coffee/tea were not included. read more

We went here for the breakfast buffet. Although it was far from terrible, it certainly fell below our expectations. The buffet is $21 a head, which is steep for any quantity of eggs and bacon in my opinion. They had a wide variety of choices, but most of the food was lukewarm and unseasoned. Eggs, bacon, "hash browns" which were really just diced potatoes. My dad got an omelette from the omelette bar; this proved to be a good move as he was able to get hot, fresh food. The fruit and the pastries were the highlights; fresh strawberries and a tasty apple turnover in particular. Service was good, but the coffee was bad...all in all I don't think we'll be back. read more
