I've visited Bonfire once before for a girls night and I recently visited again for my friends surprise birthday dinner! The reservation was for Friday at 8pm for around 16 people. It wasn't crowded at all. We were seated outside and ordered hookah as we were waiting for the birthday girl to arrive. Her boyfriend, who made the reservation, stated we should be seating inside as it was a very hot day. The lady said we couldn't sit inside until we finished the hookah which is weird because they definitely smoke hookah inside. We finally made our way indoors and it wasn't busy at all which was nice. Shortly after, the birthday girl arrived! Our waitress took our drink orders first and we ordered the frozen passion fruit margarita pitcher along with a guava margarita pitcher on the rocks. Passion fruit was SO good! The guava could've been better, but it wasn't horrible. Now onto the food...I went with the shrimp mofongo again. It wasn't my favorite the first time but I decided to give it another chance. It definitely needs more sauce. My friends ordered the rope veja mofongo which is their fave, they're always craving it. For dessert, they brought out the cake her boyfriend purchased and played music which made the night memorable. Once it got towards 10:30pm, people started arriving and they were given hookah. I guess they don't allow hookah indoors earlier than 10:30pm? It is way too hot to be outside smoking hookah so we will keep that in mind for next time. This Saturday afternoon I encountered the same dynamic I'm encountering at restaurants that want to seat you in crowded areas and the worse table in the spot when there are plenty of other empty unreserved tables. It's not like they filled up at lunch time. Nonetheless, we ultimately got to choose where we wanted to sit. We felt the service felt a bit rushed and felt awkward gawking as if the staff and patrons had never seen a black person before. When we were ready to checkout, the waiter claimed my boyfriend's credit card was not working. Shortly after we got a notice from the card company that the transaction was indeed processing. The restaurant ultimately canceled the transaction anyway so we had to give them another card. I think they are full of it and shady! There is not a darn thing wrong with my boyfriends card given we used it multiple times throughout the day without any issues at all. The music was average Latin music. The food was tasty and presented nicely. The steak portion was smaller than most Latin restaurants that serve churrasco. The lobster was cooked perfectly but the mofongo was a bit dry. The drinks were mediocre. I did not notice they already included gratuity and I added additional tip. That's my fault for not taking time to review the check like I usually do. Ultimately the bill for lunch for 2 people, 2 drinks, 2 beers and 1 dessert was undoubtedly overpriced. *Take note that happy hour drinks might only be if you sit at the bar. Ask questions and read the fine print here including your final bill. So... This place come with mixed reviews. We came on a Sunday, January 16th at 8 pm or so to celebrate my niece's 21st birthday. My sister called and was informed that she could not make a reservations...despite being a party of 11 or so people. She had the manager she spoke to on the phone's name and ask to speak to her directly so we can clear the confusion. 15 minutes go by and the table is now ready..... Now, we are getting seated and was informed EVERYONE had to show ID. We happily obliged. Just to be informed that the birthday girl could not have anything to drink because she was not 21 years old AND a Day!!! WHAT!!!!! It was her birthday THAT EXACT DAY! We had a table of 11 people on a snowy Sunday night and the birthday girl could not have any drinks. WE WERE PISSED. They kept saying it is a NJ restaurant policy, but looked it up and could not find anywhere else that stated such policy. If we understood this policy to be true, we would not have come here. We have NEVER EVER HEARD of such policy. Regardless, we sat and ordered tons of foods, Sangria , mojito pitchers. Sangria did not taste good so we had to send it back. The lounge was shut down due to the snow and that was disappointing as we specifically chose this place because of the nightlife and hookah. Service- our waitress started off on a bad start. Not sure if it was due to the party size, the time (late Sunday night) but we just got an attitude from inception. Mind you...we were already very upset that we could not have the birthday girl have any drinks....and the waitress made sure of that by continuously looking over to our section and table to ensure she had nothing else in her cup. But towards the end of the night, she seem to loosen up and was more cordial at the end of night. I truly hope any form of language barrier was not the cause of such miscommunication between our party and the staff. I hope they would implement reservations for such a large party in the future to alleviate confusion and distaste. I hope that they would treat ALL their patrons equally. I hope for them to display and communicate on their website, Google pages that they will not serve ANY patron is not 21 years old AND A DAY!!!!!! I do believe I will come back for an event or large party dining here. Came for dinner Saturday night.. My friend and I were the only table having dinner, the restaurant was empty and they took forever to bring out our appetizer and dinner. Our server also didn't come to check on us to see if we wanted additional drinks or needed anything while we waited. The food portions look small but they were actually filling. We had the chicken and shrimp empanadas as an appetizer but I forgot to take a picture because I was too hungry, they were both very good but slightly cold. I had the mofongo sampler which I really enjoyed. The shrimp was my least favorite, not much flavor. The chicken was more flavorful but the stripped steak was my favorite. The meat was flavorful and juicy. The good thing about all 3 was that they weren't dry. My friend had the ropa vieja mofongo and she enjoyed the flavors and portion size. Came here on a double date on a Saturday night. The vibe and atmosphere here is great. The music is great as well. No mask required here and they don't do temp checks or require vaccination cards. The later it got, the music picked up and it becomes a lounge/night club environment. We got a pitcher of Margarita. I also got the lychee Margarita which was okay. The original was better. We also got the empanadas. Two chicken and one shrimp. They were really filling and delicious. I appreciated how much filling was in each. The chicken was better than the shrimp. We also had the sampler for two appetizer. It came with calamari, fried chicken, potato croquetas and pork slices. All of it was good. For an entree i got the whole fried coconut fish with shrimp and mofongo. The fish was a little overcooked but it was still delicious. The sauce and shrimp were also really good. My husband got the ropa vieja mofongo. He really liked it and it looked absolutely beautiful. The service did lack a little. Some things did take a long time to come to the table. It was very loud with the music blaring , have to YELL at the waiter and your table mates . The service was horrible all the servers were in a bad mood literally had an attitude & lets not even talk about the fact that it is so crowded in there they try to fit 200 people in a 50 people space. POST COVID: I came here with my mom on a Tuesday. If you're looking to spend money, this is the spot. You have to pay for valet parking although they park it right in front of you, I could've done it myself. We walked directly to the outdoor patio and were asked if we wanted hookah. We had to wear a mask to get seated and then we could take it off once we sat at our table, but must put it back on to use the bathroom. You're only able to spend 90 minutes here. The tables are socially distanced and the area has a great outdoor vibes. We are seated under a large stretched umbrella type ceiling. The tables are a little small, the server struggled to fit the plates on our table when he arrived. There is Latin music playing, mainly salsa and merengue, and reggaeton music videos were playing on the TVs. There are no physical menus, which a big plus to avoid anything transmitted through touch. To look at the menu, we had to open our phone camera and put it over a barcode. A link will pop up to the menu online and we could see the prices there. The drinks are 35 per pitcher and 12 minimum a drink. The beers are definitely more affordable, about $5 per beer. We ordered the Picadera Bonfire. It's enough for two people. It consisted of 3 mini Mofongos, Calamaris, 4 empanadas (2 Chicken & 2 Guayaba), chicken bites, tostones, and yucca fries with 2 dip sauces. It was good, I don't think it's worth the price but the environment and outdoor patio was really really nice! We set up a Christmas Event here recently and They simply gave us a menu with the prices for the entrees and open bar options for premium or house liquor. We all chose premium liquor and as soon as we start ordering drinks, the premium liquor price that we paid for, somehow ended up being the house liquor prices. Without telling the party, they just went ahead and charged the credit card that was on file an extra $900. The owners excuse is that we never signed a contract, so lesson learned on our behalf. Moral of the story is that if you do business with Bonfire, make sure everything is signed and sealed! This is a huge scam and I'm pretty sure this is not the first time that it's been done. Once we arrived I attempted to park in their lot, we were stopped by some guys, they mentioned that they were valet and that they'll park the vehicle for US$10.00, I said "I can park it myself & save myself the US$10.00 valet fee, just point me to the handicap parking spot" (I am a disabled Veteran with handicap plates), we were told that whether they park it or I do, they still charge US$10.00 the next words out of my mouth came out highly unfiltered "Say What!!?? You gotta be f***ing joking or f***ing insane!! I have to pay you 10 f***king dollars for us to park here so we can eat!!?? Go f**k yourself" ... And we left. All we wanted was a simple, nice dinner, instead what we almost got fleeced and aggravated. We headed to another restaurant with a FREE parking lot. Mofongo House was just okay in my opinion. The food was good, definitely not great, and I wouldn't necessarily call them the house of Mofongo when I've certainly have had better. And I've gotta say, the most disappointing was that itty bitty flan. My son ordered it and he was so upset that it was so tiny. In fact, it wasn't even shaped in proportion. It looked as if it was messed with and we were given half a piece of flan for their full price. Big no no. Especially within Hispanic standards. Maybe I'll just come for drinks or to go out for a bit, but I think they need to work on their menu and differentiate their product selections from local competition if they expect increased success. Bonfire is a very popular place, yet I've never had to wait for a table for dinner. I'm on a mission to eat my way through the mofongo menu. So far I've tried the Lobster, Shrimp, Seafood, and Pork Mofongo dishes. I love all of the one's served with the lobster sauce. Although the pork is served chunked rather than pulled, and the sauce is different, it is still tasty. The servings are very filling, so it's well worth the price...I mean, I didn't even know shrimp came that big! I was there on Friday night and as soon as we sat down they told us we had 90 minutes. We got a table for 2 so we asked to move to a larger table because we were going to have another person come and it was a bit of a commotion because they wanted us to go back to the waiting area. However, after several waiters coming to talk to us we were able to move without a problem. I'm personally a fan of lychee martinis, but their lychee martini didn't even have a lychee inside. It wasn't terrible but I will not order a lychee martini from there again. So for my second drink I got a bulldog which was much better. I have to say the food was amazing the mofongito sampler was very tasty and the fish was great. I got the pescado coco and I'm usually not a fan of ordering a whole fish because of the spines, but they cleaned up the fish pretty well. There were still some spine in the fish but very minimal. I was pleasantly surprised by seeing all staff members wearing masks, hand sanitizer provided upon entry, and tables set apart from one another. We waited another 15-20 mins and still weren't asked what bottles we wanted. The table right next to us who arrived after us received their bottles right away. Goodness at least bring us water! So I ask the waiter why haven't we received our bottles and she explains that we never ordered it. Technically speaking I ordered it days ago! Yet, the waiter never returned to ask us what we wanted either. As for our appetizers, remember I said we were sat so close to the speaker? It was so loud and so close to the speaker that one of our appetizers vibrated right off the table. I understand that the kitchen was closed but the least they could of done was remove this plate from our bill. Security was helpful and helped us call someone to clean it. So our bottles come out with led lights attached. They quickly take them off not giving us a chance to get one pick of the bday girl and her bottles lit up. The waitress and manager do come around here and there to ask if all is ok. When we asked for extra cups they quickly brought it. They brought enough napkins and did refill our bucket with ice. We ordered another bottle and it came out quickly. Yet the cake that was included in our package NEVER came out. To the first DJ, you definitely provided good music.
