I used to live up north on Camano Island and I kid you not I would drive south with the intention of going to Bongos in Seattle and anything else I did that day was just to fill me time. I moved to Kitsap years ago and unfortunately have not been to Bongos in that time. So when I saw Bongos move into this space I could not contain my excitement.. No joke my wife and I got a babysitter just so we could go to Bongos and everything else that day was to fill out time haha. And man it did not disappoint! The sandwiches were saucy and delicious. The view was incredible, the decor was fun, the music was vibing (a bit loud), the yuca fries were worth it and the drinks were flowing. What I love about this place is how chill it is. You can come in here grab a beer and a sandwich with some friends and play a game at a table of you wanted. It invites you to relax. Office decided to go here for lunch and see what the hype was about. It's good to see some more food options and this Caribbean flavor spot might just have done it......maybe. The food to me was heavily seasoned and then the sauce was added just to say that it was there. Beans were ok and looks like they were sitting in ready pan then slopped on my plate. The coleslaw, I didn't even touch, because it just looks drenched in mayo. My colleagues had the same type of aftertaste to their food as well. Nothing to be excited about. Service was.... Interesting. Asked us if it's for here or to go and we said it's for dining in, but yet it still came in a to-go container? Plastic utensils, to go cups for everything but the water. Not very environmental friendly. Salsa containers were empty so couldn't tell you how those were and besides ketchup, I didn't see anything else. The restaurant is huge. A lot of empty space and still using some for storage (so it seemed). Looks like they are going to build a patio outside. Only positive note: Great View on a clear day. read more

This is such a convenient location. Even if you're not going to Poulsbo, it's just right off the highway, across from Walmart. I had the Tamarind Shrimp Skewer plate, which was actually in a bowl. It came with rice, beans, and a really refreshing slaw. It was so flavorful and good, and I really appreciated that it was a normal human portion. It's very convenient to not have to take leftovers, when you're nowhere near home. It was just right for lunch when you're moderately hungry. I asked about drinks, and was told that all of the drinks were in the refrigerator by the counter, but when I sat down, I saw that they have fountain drinks as well. The employee apologized for the confusion. She forgot to mention the fountain drinks. It worked out okay, because I got to try a kind of pop I'd never had before, but I actually had wanted a fountain drink. I took off a star more for the fact that the floor was really sticky, than for the drink confusion. You can book catering for groups, and they have side rooms to put you in. read more

You can smell the amazing Caribbean herbs and spices as you drive up to the restaurant. You don't even have to roll your window down or get out of your car to know you want to eat at Bongos. Six of my friends joined me for lunch yesterday and everyone enjoyed their meal. Interestingly enough, we all had different plates, and everyone had good things to say about what they were eating. One had a vegetarian bowl. Another had the jerk chicken with the beans and rice. Another had the fried chicken with some other assortment of things. Another had the pineapple chicken with coleslaw. I had the spicy shrimp and they were spicy but very tasty. A couple of us don't eat carbohydrates. So I was able to put my spicy shrimp in a zero carb tortilla, that I brought with me, with the coleslaw, and it was a massive hit for my taste buds and dietary needs. The cashier was so amazing friendly and knowledgeable. She took her time with me to walk me through the menu to make sure that my particular dietary needs could be met. I came back today to get some takeout just for myself. I got the steak with chimichurri and some coleslaw. Super delicious! Tender juicy bites and the sauce was almost drinkable! The food is yummy. The customer service is exceptional. The place is huge and today it was a crowded parking lot and a lot of people eating lunch. It should do very well. I will definitely keep this in my rotation.Probably coming once a month or once every six weeks. They made a customer out in me. read more

Stopped for a meal and got the Havana steak. Lots of options and all of it sounded so good. Looks like they're making an outdoor patio so that will be amazing with the view and the summer weather coming up. Service was friendly and we didn't have to wait long for our food. Loved that it's in a to go container as I typically end up asking for one anyhow. Everything in my bowl was delicious. Glad I got some of the sauces to try and I loved both of them. Caribbean-style fast food spot with a clean, brand-new interior and nice little windows for a pleasant view while eating. Ordering is done at the counter, then you wait for a buzzer to grab your food, which made it feel more like a cafeteria or fast-food setup than a traditional restaurant. The food was okay, but heavily sauced and lacking the authentic Caribbean flavor I was hoping for. Being from the East Coast, NYC where Caribbean flavors are everywhere, I was really looking forward to some true Jamaican jerk chicken or flavorful oxtail, and unfortunately this missed the mark for me. The best comparison I can think of is making baby back ribs in the oven, pouring barbecue sauce on top, and calling them authentic BBQ ribs -- without the seasoning, smoke, or hours of preparation that make the real thing special. One big plus was the ample parking with generously sized spaces, which is definitely appreciated. Overall, probably not somewhere I'll become a frequent customer, but I could still see stopping in for a quick bite over McDonald's, Five Guys, or standard takeout Chinese food. read more

First of all, the staff is so welcoming and friendly. We arrived at 5:00 on a Saturday night and there were about 20 people seated and eating. We went over to the bar areas and met Colin, who is the bartender. Loved to see that they carried local Poulsbo beers on tap and he kindly let me sample two as I was having a hard time make a decision. We sat down and our friends arrived. None of us were familiar with Caribbean food and were eager to try a variety of plates. Our order was placed (at the counter) and a pager was given. We enjoyed our beers and became aware of how many people were coming into the restaurant. Our pagers went off, we collected our food and got to work. The portions are generous and the flavors are out of this world-so many unique combinations and are all partnered so well. We all felt that the prices were very reasonable. Colin was kind enough to check in and see how we liked our choices. I am absolutely thrilled that Bongos has a home in Poulsbo as I know it will be so well received. Went to Bongos not knowing what to expect. Such a great selection of food and drinks. Ordered a lentil and spinach handpie, fried chicken plate, and vegetarian curry with yams. Everything was amazing! Every seat has a beautiful window view of Rainer and looks out over poulsbo. It was fun recognizing landmarks and other features from a new perspective. The cashier that took the order was so sweet & had the best energy. The restaurant is extremely spacious - plenty of room to dine in with a beautiful view of Mount Rainier. The food was delicious. The jerk chicken had a sweet spice to it. I ate the bucco chicken plate, it was so good. My daughter's favorite was the cilantro aioli sauce for all the food. They will have a Bongo Bar soon. They have beer on draft & canned. Clean, spacious, delicious. Definitely worth a try. We're coming back for sure. read more

What Bongos has correct: * Good food, very well seasoned * Clean, tasteful interior * Awesome views of Liberty Bay and Mt. Ranier * Fun bar with a variety of beer and cider on taps as well as some cocktail options What Bongos needs to fix: * Plastic utensils, extremely difficult to eat with and unnecessarily harmful to the environment - I understand the desire to avoid the cost of washing dishes, but at least use sturdy compostable utensils * Plastic "takeout style" dishes that the food is served in even when eating in the restaurant. The dishes are technically recyclable, but I doubt that many people are properly rinsed by and recycling the food containers. Again, disappointing that a business could care so little for the environment. I urge the owners to consider switching to compostable food containers. The atmosphere is more of a cafeteria styled restaurant with no servers, you have to order at the counter and pick up your food and utensils. This did not bother me as the food was excellent and the views were breathtaking. My wife ordered the Jamaican rundown which was a vegetarian, coconut curry base with rice, sweet potatoes, and tostones. It was very well seasoned and was a nice serving size. I ordered the Jamaican jerk chicken plate. The dish had a nice heat level, excellent flavor, and was a very generous serving size. I did not care for the cole slaw, however that is just a personal preference as I do not like mayonnaise. Bongos is building a patio are which should be open later this year. Overall I would recommend Bongos, but seriously hope the owners will change the utensils and food containers! read more

This is such incredibly delicious food! Maybe I will get tired of it after eating it 2-3 times a week for longer, but right now I think I could eat food from Bongos every night and be perfectly happy! Everything is fresh and well-seasoned. My favorite is the West Indies plate, my daughter loves the steak. The mango coleslaw is excellent, I absolutely love the plantain, and I really like the mango habanero sauce. Every meal is as delicious as the next. This restaurant absolutely hits it out of the park! And then to top it all off, the staff is warm, friendly and helpful. Bongos is a new Cuban/Caribbean restaurant in Poulsbo that needs attention. The food very tasty, and the ambiance is like a family sit down restaurant. Service is very quick, but they are more of an order your food, when it's ready come get it, and please bus your own table type of restaurant, similar to fast food restaurants. We got the Bucco chicken and the West Indies chicken. Foody's fantastic, the atmosphere is really nice. Definitely coming back with this place. Trini chicken was not hot nor very spicy garlic rice was okay. Average fair. The burger was good very little spice in the patty but doused with burnt pineapple on top. Side of fries was about 9 mid size fries that had more seasoning than anything on the plate. Im sure the bland non spice folks will flock here and the folks who dine at Dennys and Taco Bell. Holy smokes this place is great! The food had so much flavor. We tried several things and were blown away by all of them. Tarmarind shrimp was very good, touch of sweetness touch of heat and tangy. The chicken and the spinach and cheese hand pies were very tasty. The spinach and cheese one was well balanced the spinach flavor came through. The yucca and cheese bites were delicious and the cheese in them was so good and creamy. My husband had the Bart sandwich and that was a mess to eat but was also incredibly delicious. Will be coming back often and told all of our friends about it. Also, the place is huge and it has a lovely view! We are so happy to have this place in Poulsbo! read more
