A few days ago we visited Molly Ward Gardens for the first time. The decor and atmosphere were charmingly eclectic, which we enjoyed. Our waitress was terrific, both friendly and efficient. The food was good overall, but there were some areas where it could have been better. The glass of wine I ordered was served at the wrong temperature; it was too warm and therefore the flavor suffered. The proteins (lamb and scallops) we ordered were cooked perfectly, but the polenta was overly cheesy which made it too heavy. The Fontina cheese in the appetizer we ordered was not distinctive and reminded me of a mass-produced cheese you might get at any grocery store. For the price, I don't know if I would return. read more

Molly ward used to be fabulous experience in every way. The owner cooked each individual exquisite meal in his tiny kitchen. Each entree came with a gorgeous salad and formal bread presentation at no charge. This compliment was to allow Sam to take his time preparing your entree. It has always been expensive but worth it. The menu was printed daily on a rolling board. The place itself exuded quirky elegance. My experience the other night was merely a high priced restaurant. Half the food for the same price as is the past. Twas a very special birthday celebration for me. They had inquired at the reservation time for anything special. I told them three times in various conversations, about this event and acknowledgement was made upon being seated that it was a special day. There was never again mention of my special occasion. When leaving upon asking, I was given an insincere apology. He forgot! This used to be my special go to place but no more. It's just a high priced restaurant now. Sorry Sam has retired. read more

I have only been here twice. Once for my wife's 30th, and now again for Valentine's Day. It's the type of place you only go if it's a super special occasion. On Wednesdays they have a live Piano player which makes for a nice romantic ambiance. Expect to pay $60-$100+ per person if you are going to be getting an appetizer, drink and main course. It is probably the classiest restaurant in Kitsap and you won't be able to just walk in you will need a reservation even though they take walk ins. The restaurant is a remodeled old farmhouse house with 8 or so tables inside and more outside. In the summer there is a great view of the owners Garden. The service has always been great and I love that the servers are real and not just there to bring you food and take your order you can expect to strike up some small talk with them. My husband and I went here for our anniversary dinner and it was very cute, the service was excellent, and I liked the eclectic decor. I also enjoyed how small and intimate it felt. All of the guests cheered and clapped when a guy proposed to his girlfriend and wished us a happy anniversary when the owner welcomed us in. I also loved the live piano player. It is really small inside and I didn't see them turn over a single table (although it was midweek) so I think they intentionally keep things small and exclusive. You should definitely make a reservation. Now, all of that being said, I was really looking forward to eating here because I heard that it was the best restaurant in Kitsap County. Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed, perhaps because my expectations were so high. My husband ordered an old fashioned and was very disappointed. We got some cheese puffs things, a soup that was very similar to caldo Verde, a summer salad with fruit, the ling cod, the pork chop, and a chocolate semi frozen mousse, and a crumble for dessert. Everything was good, but not great. The sauce for the puffs was cold, they would have been much better if it was warm. The soup was a little underseasoned and the bread it was served with was nothing special, kind of tasteless. The salad was good and the fruit in it was fresh. The ling cod was served in a miso broth which was visually unappealing and again not as flavorful as I would have liked. The pork chop with mustard was excellent, no complaints! Same with the crumble. The chocolate mousse was decent, but didn't quite hit the mark. I think I wanted it to be a little bit more chocolatey, like darker and richer. Overall, it is a nice place, great staff, decent food, but unfortunately not worth the price. I would go back again in the spring or summer, if only to go see the gardens during the day. read more

Loved the atmosphere here! The restaurant appears to be inside a home so there is only about 8 tables. In my opinion it's the fanciest restaurant in Kitsap. What a perfect setting for a summer dinner. The garden is lovely. Started with cocktails and a delicious Caesar salad and chilled melon soup. Entrees were ling cod and scallops. I have reviewed this place at least Ince before, it is a favorite! My brother recently moved to Driftwood Keys here in north Kitsap county and I had to introduce him to the unique dining experience that is "Molly Ward Gardens". We made our reservations well in advance as it is a small restaurant and quite popular! We got an early reservation on a Wednesday and arrived to the tiny dining room to find three of the tables already enjoying meals and conversation; excellent. Being this was a special event, as is every dinner at Molly Ward's, as we know it. So, we imbibed in a couple of rounds of classic cocktails and appetizers. Yum! Meals were wonderful and carefully chosen from the limited menu. We followed with equally wonderful and classic desserts. Only down side? There's a nearby dog that walks around off leash. My dogs were in the car. My car is now COVERED in mud from the remote feud. I had been a loyal Mossback fan in Kingston, and have been trying to find a replacement the last couple of years since it closed. If you are going just keep driving till you think you have missed it and it will magically appear. The décor is odd in the most wonderful way. A rotating weekly menu means that every time you go there is something new to try. Insider tips: - They will make a non-alcoholic beverage for the young ones based on what they like. Savory? Yup they can do that. Sweet? Totally. Sour? That's a yes too. All you have to do is ask. -They close at 8 so if you make a reservation at 7 or 7:30 and stick around they will let the dog and cat into the dinning room. I love going to small towns and discover small, family owned, hidden gems. Like Molly Ward. Molly Ward has been around for ages. They have a nice outdoor seating area, alongside a nice garden / farm from which lots of items in the menu are freshly picked from. Some simple words to describe Molly Ward's cooking are: no fuss, fresh ingredients, wholesome food. I've been wanting to dine at Molly Ward for years and eventually went for a small celebration during the week of 07/2020. Everybody wear masks, and with COVID they serve a reduced menu written on a big whiteboard. Our party of 4 almost ordered everything from the menu! We had for starters: Tom Kha - I am so pleasantly surprised by how authentic this tastes. The perfect balance of flavor dancing on my tastebud. And I appreciate they don't skim on the chili pepper! Shrimp and Papaya Salad - was expecting a Thai-style papaya salad, but I really like this version! The ripe papayas go really well with the tiny shrimps and the other vegetables. Refreshing! The only downside is I was expecting the shrimps to be actual shrimps instead of baby cocktail shrimps. Soba Noodle Salad with Sesame Dressing and Smoked Duck Breast - not a fan of this dish. The portion is huge, so suitable as a main for sure. The soba dominates the dish, and the sesame dressing was not very flavorful. The duck was a little too gamey and on the raw side. And for mains: Sablefish with Potatoes and Snap Peas - I love this dish! My favorite of the night. The fish is fresh, nicely seared. The snap peas are so sweet and fresh. The sauce is beyond perfection - the right amount of sweet and umami. Stuffed Chicken Breast - I did not have a try of this dish but I heard it was good! And for dessert: Chocolate Mousse, with Berry Sorbet added on top - the desserts weren't as special, but what's the best way to end a meal? I'll definitely come back again to try other things when they rotate their menu? Prices are reasonable for the ingredients that you get! This is a unique dinner spot. Very intimate indoor setting. It was rainy and dark, so we didn't explore the gardens. I had a great cocktail, but the rye whiskey ran out so my partner couldn't get what he ordered, and his replacement cocktail was so-so. Our food was okay overall. The bread and butter were delicious, and the salad was good. Most disappointing was my entree--I had a crab bake, which was strange for an upper end restaurant, and paired with kind of dry rice. Our primary server was hospitable, the owner/bartender not as courteous. The cash/check only payment option was a surprise to us, so we had to mail in a check after leaving. For our 21st anniversary, my cutie and I decided to go to dinner somewhere we'd never been. (cue violins, throw flowers, think charm) Enter Molly Ward Gardens. Apparently, Molly Ward Gardens has been around forever. But it was our first time. The food was fresh, with most, if not all, the veggies coming from the garden. From the website: "We try to be completely organic at Molly Ward Gardens. Our gardens see no chemicals (except Sluggo - animal friendly slug bait). We compost our yard and kitchen waste, recycle cardboard, paper, bottles, paper, etc. We grow fruits, flowers, greens, vegetables and herbs for the restaurant. Sam buys only organic produce - local as much as possible. We serve only wild fish (not farmed) and stay away from those fish that are endangered. We all feel strongly in the importance fo sustainability. We must all do our part to continue our quality of life in this most beautiful part of the earth." We like their philosophy. I had a fish dish with miso ginger sauce, and it was very good. My cutie had the Wagu Steak with potatoes and a reduction sauce and it was divine. I drove an hour from Tacoma and an hour home and it was absolutely worth it. Food: 5/5 Ambiance: 5/5 Service 5/5 The menu changes daily and thry only serve what is fresh. The quantities are limited so it's possible they'll run out of an item. For instance they ran out of rack of lamb while we were there. This is a consequence of having great ingredients. They will also make special orders if you give them a few days heads up. They suggested rack of lamb, paella, and beef Wellington as a gew ideas. The menu is on a whiteboard in the restauramt and is rolled over for you to order. Everything we had deserved an A+. Warm rosemary bread, fresh clams and mussels, delicious yet not-to-filling coconut curry amd great drinks all set high expectations for dinner. Dinner didn't disappoint. The crab tower was bomb! Made with mostly Dungeness crab and not much else (if anything). The filet mignon was to die for. Perfectly cooked with a fantastic reduxtion thay complemented the steak without taking away from it. I took my fella here for his birthday dinner and it was very good. We chose to sit inside as it was a bit chilly out, but I'd love to come back for brunch and sit outside. We had chilled peach soup and heirloom tomatoes for appetizers, spaghetti squash with a tomato vegetable sauce for my entree and wagyu steak for his. The food was simple (in a good way - unpretentious) and delicious. The service was also excellent, friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Extra credit for the wait staff being patient with some grumpy old folks who apparently couldn't wait a couple minutes to be seated. The ambiance inside is very cozy and inviting, but the real gem is the small garden "maze" you can meander through after your meal. I would love to kick it out there and read a book. Could have been a bad day, but..... Apparently the chef quit during the day of the evening we chose to have our Christmas gathering - what a disappointment. After several other attempts to get a reservation, I was able to make one! We were a small group of 6. The service was okay, but listening to the owner (who was now acting Chef) yell and throw things around the kitchen - not to mention profanities, we were already not impressed. We requested the scallops be cooked very well, nearly over done. The expensive steak was to be MedWell. The scallops were undercooked and returned as was the bloody steak that bled all over the plate when cut. After 20 minutes I requested they cancel my steak as my fellow diners were completely finished with their meals. The server was not listenting to this at all as I was quickly realizing, she was "afraid" to tell the owner/chef I no longer wanted his steak. I am happy I was able to finally get to eat there as I am now able to kabash that desire to ever do that again! Incredibly OVER PRICED with virtually no care to the diners by the owner! We called in to check the hours and they suggested we get a reservation, and they were right. The ambiance is eclectic and romantic with each piece of art drawing your eye in interest. The service is professional yet warm and friendly. And you know you're getting the freshest, in-season ingredients when the menu is written that day on a mobile board. We tried the duck pate (balanced seasoning, nice texture), warm beet dish (yummy, vegetarian, and filling), and crab tower (also very filling, and the perfect temperature and texture). My friends and I stopped by here for brunch after a backpacking trip, and boy was this a treat. The brunch comes with a coffee cake and a fruit salad that isn't just balled melon. It had mango, bananas, blueberries, grapes, and Rainier cherries, which were quite literally the cherry on top. The menu probably changes frequently, depending on what's in season as it was only written on a chalkboard which our waiter brought to us. I forget the name of what I ordered, but it had a delicious scramble of eggs, spinach, and garlicky mushrooms, topped with two enormous sausages, and came with a side of perfectly cooked potatoes. One friend of mine ordered their last serving of an oyster meal, which came with a SHOCKING amount of huge oysters. We were all expecting just a few oysters, but I believe it came with between 8 and 10 oysters. Other friends ordered the Dungeness crab omelette, which they all loved. We finished the meal with the brownie with ice cream and a stroll through the garden. The brownie was a bit crumbly for my fudgy brownie preferences, but it had a good flavor. Be sure not to skip the garden. It's much larger than we expected and has all sorts of eclectic decorations. Overall, Molly Ward Gardens was maybe the most charming place I've been all year.
