The real deal, flawlessly executed. After driving east for three days from California I was ready for some serious Louisiana cooking and could not have made a better choice. It looks like a dive bar from the outside, always a good sign for a well-reviewed eatery. Inside there's a full bar, smiling servers, no frills decor, and some great classic rock playing. I ordered a sweet tea and perused the giant menu, settling on the seafood platter since I didn't know if I'd ever be back. The platter comes with gumbo which comes out first with an orange blossom, a delicious twist on a cornbread muffin. I could have stopped after that I was so satisified. Then came my mountain of battered and fried shrimp, oysters, catfish, softshell crab, and fresh catch. From the sides I chose the baked macaroni and jambalaya, and I could have been happy with just the sides as my meal. The best jambalaya I've ever had. Even the hushpuppies were killer, with an essence of malt vinegar. It also came with a couple of pieces of toasted bread and a couple of pieces of french bread. I'm 120 lbs and I made three large meals out of it. Everything on the plate was perfectly seasoned, perfectly cooked, clearly well-honed menu items. As I worked my way through the platter, Tim the co-owner came out to greet the customers, by that time there were seven tables, five of them were single diners. When have you ever seen more single diners in a restaurant than those dining with companions? Tim's the most personable host I've ever met, we chatted for a good long time and he made sure that everyone was satisfied with their meals. He wasn't shy about sharing his secrets either, he asked one of the diners "how's that chicken? Moist to the bone?" of course it was and his response was "you know why? because we brine it for 24 hours and it's fresh". Everything was fresh, everything is made in house. And it's affiliated with the Copeland family so you get to taste what they've learned between the steakhouses and Popeye's over the years, how could you go wrong? I was stuffed, but I pushed my partially eaten platter aside and ate every bit of my Louisiana Bread Pudding. Tim told me what made it great, at least four kinds of fruit, but they escape me now. I had lunch here today! The food was delicious. I had a salad and fried shrimp. One problem: the shrimp still had their poop shoots?!

We stopped in Slidell to visit my Bro. We were hungry after driving all day and he quickly suggested Bonnie C's for some "local flavor". We were quickly greeted at the door and seated promptly. My wife and David both had the nightly special. Two center cut pork chops, stuffed with crab meat. They looked wonderful and from what they said, tasted every bit as delicious as they looked. I had the (cook 'em any way you want them) Oyster Platter. I chose grilled oysters and they were served with red beans, sweet potato fries, two corn fritters and they were WONDERFUL!! We had a steamed mussels appetizer that melted in our mouths. I could've made a meal out of them alone had I know how large the portion was. During the meal, the waitress came over several times to check on us, keeping our drinks full and even bringing me extra oysters, telling me that "there weren't enough on my plate". I was stunned. I've ordered delivery and had take out. The food and service here is really good. Staff are friendly and personable. I've had their award winning red beans and meat and it's really good. It comes with a half a link of what taste like barbqued sausage. You can order a pork chop on the side for $3 which is a bargain. It's almost enough for two meals with the pork chop and the two sides that come with the red beans and meat dinner. I've also had Bonnie's Southern Fried chicken which has fantastic flavor. There are not many restaurants in Slidell that deliver really good food, I'd say Bonnie C's has one of, if not the best restaurant delivery. The restaurant itself is very modest. Not much going on for decor or atmosphere and the fluorescent lighting doesn't help but the staff are friendly and the price is nice for the quality of food that I've received. There is a very long fully stocked bar inside. I'll be back and I'll order delivery again. read more

The only reason this gets 2 stars is that i've been there once before and had a far better experience. I went last week and was hungry. I decided to have the fresh turkey dinner - my friend had it last time and liked it. Completely different dinner than I had. First, the environment didn't feel even as good as a hospital cafeteria....very bright and weird lighting. Screaming children galore. All in all unpleasant setting. The dinner came and it looked like it was served from a hospital cafeteria. Portions were served from scoops as if they were told to not give too much of anything - USE THE SCOOPS! The "fresh" turkey was no better than sliced turkey that you would get at a deli and tasted not as good. They had the cranberry sauce in a little plastic condiment cup with plastic lid on it - why? That made it seem even more institutional. The waitress suggested that she hoped I had a big appetite because it was alot of food. I was hungry, I'm not a big guy or a huge eater, but it was not filling in the least. I was looking forward to the visit, but it was so much different than the first experience and I don't see any reason to chance it and spend my money there again. read more

I've heard they have recently changed ownership, but kept the name, so my review will be based up my experience with them the last few times I went; before the change. This place always had top notch service. I guess because Bonnie is actually related to Al Copeland or something, and well... that family is synonymous with "good service" in New Orleans. They have good specials on drinks and they usually have a good solid craft beer or two on tap. The food here is quite good as well. I've had several of their entrees and only once was I disappointed when I got a seafood pasta that tasted like old rotten fish. It was actually one of the ONLY times I have EVER complained at any restaurant, but I will be quick to point out that they very promptly offered not to charge us for the meal AND gave us a gift card to come back; which is what I call excellent customer service. That had to be a fluke because every other experience with this restaurant was top notch. It's definitely worth a try if you've never gone. They have good southern food along with some classic New Orleans staples. read more

Bonnie C's is down home comfort food. Fried chicken, mac n cheese, and greens are an example of the items here. I had some redbeans, chicken and rice soup, mac n cheese, gravy fries, and the roast beef sandwich. The fries are super thin shoestring fries, which I hate, but other than that everything taste great! It is the BEST roast beef debris I've had in NOLA. PERIOD. I live on the other side of the lake, which sucks! but I will return as often as possible. read more

This is a store front restaurant and the atmosphere is small town cafe. The food was good (fried mushrooms were cooked perfectly) and the service was fast and friendly, and plentiful. We shared an appetizer and meal between the wife and I, and it was more than we could eat. Appetizer was onion rings and fried mushrooms, with the shrimp platter as our meal portion. We were here on Wednesday evening. I don't know if it was an off night, but the food was awful and the place was dirty and old. We both had the signature Turkey Dinner which comes with Turkey, Gravy, Yams, Greens, stuffing, corn bread and cranberry sauce. The Turkey was a bit cold and the gravy on top was so salty it was almost impossible to eat. It tasted like packaged gravy. The Yams tasted like Apple. I don't know if they mixed them with Apple for flavor or what, but very sweet and a little weird. The stuffing was a pile of mush with hard bits in it that we had to keep removing when we chomped on it. The greens were disgusting. They were a pile of salty, watery mush. The cranberry sauce was from a can- and that was OK! The corn bread would have been fine but there was no butter offered to go with it so my partner left his as he felt it was dry an flavorless. We also had a Blue Moon on Draft and the glass was smaller than a standard American pint glass, but the beer was an OK value for $3.75. There were no Orange Blossom muffins to be found in this place as others mentioned. We were looking forward to trying these and there was no mention of them on the menu and none of the other 3 tables being served had them so maybe they stopped serving them? In short, this place is NOT RECOMMENDED. It was tired, old and dirty and we are certain that everything had been pre-made, frozen and microwaved before serving to us. When you place your order and 3 minutes later your food is arriving at the table, you know that is never a good thing! read more

My boyfriend and I were looking for a beer on a very hot Louisiana summer's day on our way home from vacation. Stopped into Bonnie C's and ended up spending a wonderful afternoon there. They have some great beers on tap, as well as a full bar and a pretty decent wine list. We weren't looking to eat, but we were so impressed with the menu that we ended up getting an order of chicken Parmesan to go. It was absolutely delicious, and the portion was more than generous; definitely enough for 2, and at a very affordable price of 9.99 (and that included a side of our choosing and garlic bread). Despite the delicious food and drink, the highlight was the staff. Our server Tori was too much fun, and did a first rate job of juggling our needs at the bar and the tables in the family friendly area of restaurant. We will definitely be back to Slidell to visit our new friends and check out more of the extensive and delicious looking menu. read more

Bonnie C's is okay. I've been here three times and gotten ham and swiss poboys... first time it was actually pretty great. The other two times, my poboy was under stuffed.. Most recently was last night when there was so little ham that it was over powered by the bread. My niece order chicken alfredo... the chicken was great but the pasta under seasoned. I'll probably go again to try some other things off the menu. Mainly because I've had great experiences with the staff more than I think that their food will be much better than I've had with them so far, just don't go expecting anything incredible. read more

My coworkers and I come here pretty often when we visit Slidell for work. The food is like comfort food with really good portions and very tasty. They serve a complimentary pastry almost like an orange cornbread and it's pretty good. Only downfall with this place is sometimes the flavor of a few dishes seem inconsistent at times. I work @ a local hospital. The staff was treated to lunch and we chose THIS place of ALL places!!!! The food sucked! The seafood platter barely had enough of seafood. We all counted our shrimp and we all had different amounts. The bill came close to $100 and it was poorly spent! Not worth my effort or time again! The whole staff agree.
