Woof ! Lemme tell ya! 10/10 This is my second go around, I came once a couple years ago and it was also excellent. I decided to redo this rodeo with a new beau to show him the wonders of Whitefish. And, as expected, Bonzai (again) did not disappoint. It's got everything, amazing saison, IPA, brown ale, even sours! [don't judge - I had a flight] The big draw is the delicious beer, of course. But the ambiance is second to none - dogs, kids, benches, tables, Mountain View's, and happy people. Oh, and a gay flag! *screams in gay* I even had a cookie. It was the bees knees. My photo is of an empty glass because I drank all of my beer. You should get with the program and come do so too. =D

Ahi tacos. They were very good.

Lunch at Bonsai Brewing Project. Bonsai is a fun little venue with a large outside eating area. It was a beautiful day for alfresco dining. We ordered the special, ahi tuna tacos. They were very good. The only problem was the length of time it took to get our order. We were told that it would be 20 to 25 minutes, but it was just shy of 35 minutes. The venue is fun. It was an enjoyable lunch.

My husband and I always make a trip here when we visit my mother-in-law. We come specifically for the beer. We like their take on the different brews. And their menu is always a little different each time we come. Haven't tried much food but what I did get was good. The servers are nice and quick. It is mostly self serves unless you're at the bar. They have a big seating area inside and outside. The inside does have a little bit of a funky smell. But the vibe is chill, comfortable and woodsy. Great place for groups and families.

Here we are in Whitefish for brewery visit #302! BBP is in an old house with a huge outdoor area. Lots of tables in the shade under trees with a few nice little areas you can have a little private moment over a pint. We ended up sitting inside after ordering and there is plenty of seating there as well. First up was Miss Thang, a ginger habanero blonde ale. This had a smooth ginger flavor and the habanero spice comes at the end. Not too much heat on it but it lingers nicely. I'm not usually big on beers with peppers in them but I liked this little thang. True Lies English IPA is predictably light on the bitterness but had great aroma and flavor. Solar Flair imperial IPA was next on my board. This is described as "tropical and shining". I definitely got tropical out of it but I'm not sure about "shining" although I did hear Jack Nicholson say, "Here's to five miserable months on the wagon, and all the irreparable harm it has caused me." That was kinda weird... Last on the board was Tickey, a sour wheat ale aged in whiskey, tequila, and wine barrels. What's the difference between "whiskey" and "whisky"? First answer and I will call BBP and arrange to pay for a pint for you! Anyway, I liked this one. You do get the barrel aging flavors nicely. It is a sour thought and SWPFTD did not appreciate it. I'm attaching a photo of her reaction for your entertainment. This is a GOOD beer, she just doesn't like sours. Her loss. SWPFTD did find an amber ale on the menu so she was happy with that. I followed up with a pint of the In Bruges Belgian session ale. This was a light Belgian which is good because the flavors of a Belgian sometimes turn off people unfamiliar with them. SWPFTD liked this one too. BBP is a win all the way around although we didn't try the food. I did hear people at the table nd y yo us raving about something they ordered but I decided not to be creepy and ask about it. If anyone is a glutton for punishment, please, follow my brewery, and distillery, reviews from across the U.S. and beyond! https://www.yelp.com/collection/-8iscFkpiiCI563-FDfwGg and if anyone is wondering who SWPFTD is you will have to check out my review of Black Market Brewing Co in Temecula, CA to understand. Yes, you will need to read into it a little to get the joke but I have confidence in you! I hope my confidence is not misplaced.

lovely vibe and delicious food! drinks were great too!! would make this a recommend spot if you're in the area!

Fantastic beer and overall a great atmosphere. The outdoor space is the Barrett beergarden. Friendly staff and nice interior. If I lived here, I'd be here way too much.

After 2 weeks in Montana this meal was one of the top 2 for us. Bf loves his burgers and I love Asian food so this place is perfect! Bf said the burger was one of the best he's had in a long time. My bento box was not really a bento box but it was a delicious Asian-inspired salad nevertheless. 10-10 would come here again. Dog friendly and kid friendly place.

Beet and arugula salad, poke added, with an IPA

One of the best restaurants in Whitefish, and the staff is very friendly and efficient. I was very partial to the burger and the beet and arugula salad with poke. Everything tastes fresh and there's just the right amount of sauce on the burger. The side pasta salad is also so tasty. They have a good selection of beer as well as a few seltzers on tap. I love their outdoor area in the summer/fall, too. Highly recommend this spot to anyone who swings through.

    Pork Carnitas Tacos

Bonsai Brewing is my favorite thing about our trip to Montana. I do not mean this to demean Montana by any means. The people were lovely, Glacier National Park was epic, and the even the air was refreshing coming from a city. But Bonsai was something else. It's a brewery, so let's start with the beer. It was amazing. The array of IPAs (e.g., Roll Bounce) were formidable and satisfying, and the Brownie Badge imperial porter was a perfect beer (deep, chocolatey, delicious). And the selection was broad (my gf got a prickly pear ale), so people other than hop fanatics who can find something they like here. And they have a selection of bottled beers to augment their draft menu. I did not expect the food to be comparably awesome. I ordered the carnitas tacos special and a plain hot dog, and my gf got the poke bowl. Everything was scrumptious. The carnitas were large, succulent, and delicious, and made next level by the house-made salsa verde. And it was in tasting the salsa verde that I realized my error in ordering a plain hot dog. Although the hot dog was among the best I've ever had, I ordered it plain rather than with the salsa verde and jalapenos (which was an offering). I will correct this when I go back. My gf's poke bowl was huge, crammed with delicious vegetables (which she appreciated more than I did, having ordered a very animal-forward meal). In terms of ambiance, this place is exceptionally cool. We began outside, but shifted inside because my skin is pale and I forgot to apply sunscreen (but in doing so we missed the friendly doggos). There, we found the decor to be fun and interesting (especially in the bathroom, which feels strange to write but is nonetheless true) and the music selection to be phenomenal (e.g., Outkast, Wu Tang, Neptunes, etc. - it wasn't censored, it didn't stop, and we couldn't get enough). The crew working there is also remarkably fun and friendly (more so than our baseline impression of Montanans as being fun and friendly). Bottom line: I want to go back immediately to drink all the beers and eat all the salsa verde.

ahi for real (subbed ahi with chicken)

I really wanted to like this place more based on all the yelp reviews but the food was just so expensive for what we paid for. The beer was great, the service was lovely (they provide samples for all their beers!), and the general space was a great vibe with a lot of outdoor seating! However, the food left much to be desired... We ordered the following: - Fortune Burger (3/5): This burger was subbed with a veggie patty and only tasted like carrots, but the texture was pretty decent. - Bonsai Burger (2/5): This burger had no tomato, no sauce, no flavor. The pasta salad was also extremely plain. - Ahi for Real bowl (3.5/5): I subbed the ahi for chicken which tasted pretty good. If you get chicken, it also costs $3 less than the original $19. The bowl wasn't super flavorful until I used both the soy sauce and sriracha sauce packets provided since most of the sauce was on top of my chicken slices. The arugula was also very bitter and the lemon slices provided were such a small size I could not squeeze them at all. - Ooh Mami bowl (4/5): This bowl tasted great after pouring in all the soy sauce provided, but it cost $19!! We're originally from San Francisco and even there the prices are not that high for a standard poke bowl.

You order beer at the counter and can enjoy it inside or outside. We went on vinyl night and the DJ was playing horrible rap music with derogatory words. The age group here was prob not into the music! The beer was not that cold when served. My friend and I thought the beer was not that good. We preferred the beer at another brewery in Columbia Falls. They have food you order at the outdoor counter. It smelled good. Parking was difficult. We parked down the road on the street.

Great beer, service and food!! Outside shaded seating under great trees! The menu is a great mix of excellent veggie and meat options. Beer braised beets are my new obsession!

Great Food Indoor and outdoor seating…read moreIncredible beer menu We made a stop here late in the day for some food and we were shocked how FANTASTIC the food was. Rarely do you find a spot that has great beer and great food, but Backslope does both But if you read my reviews, you know I like to steer you through the menu, at least what we tried. Foreman's Stout - full bodied, delicious. Ginger/Lemonade - refreshing, sooooo GOOD. House Fries - sliced as chips, but so good. Hummus - great consistency, but needed some citrus to finish it off. Still good, but I am picky about hummus. Tzatziki sauce - incredible, delicious, get this. Pecan Salad with Chicken - HOLY SMOKES, my wife loved this dish. She made me come back another time just so she vould have it again. Gyro Platter - light on the chicken, but really delicious. It was enough for two or more meals. Gyro - so full I could not fit it into my mouth. But enough for two. Really great find,

That…read moreconversation convinced me to make the trip to Columbia Falls to visit the brewery, and I'm glad I did. What I discovered wasn't just excellent craft beer--it was some of the most memorable brewery food I've ever had. Back Slope took ordinary menu items and turned them into something extraordinary. The pulled pork sandwich and fried chicken sandwich were simply exceptional. The chicken was hand-cut, brined in pickle juice, carefully breaded, and fried to a perfect golden crust. The sauce brought everything together perfectly. Those sandwiches weren't just good--they were the reason I looked forward to returning. Unfortunately, on my most recent visit I discovered that both signature sandwiches are gone. The pulled pork sandwich has been removed from the menu, and the fried chicken has been replaced with commercially prepared chicken. We ordered other menu items, and while they were perfectly acceptable, they lacked the creativity and quality that made Back Slope feel special. What was once an unforgettable dining experience has become, in my opinion, just another brewery with decent food. The service, however, remains excellent. Our server was friendly, attentive, and greeted us with a genuine smile, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. I understand that restaurants evolve and sometimes difficult business decisions have to be made. Still, it's disappointing when the very dishes that set a place apart disappear. Back Slope still has good beer and great service, but the unique culinary experience that once made it worth going out of my way to visit no longer seems to be there. I sincerely hope they consider bringing those signature sandwiches back, because they were truly something special.
