This is a food truck! They came to serve my kid's lunar new year celebration at his school. It was a rainy, cold night and we were very hungry so we ordered some quick bites to eat. The cashier was very nice and very efficient. The food is mostly fried so it was a pretty quick turnaround. Two guys were working hard with cooking other than the cashier so they're not short handed. Food was solid. We ordered some korean chicken bao and pork belly bao. Also ordered eggrolls, dumplings and crab wontons. Can't really go wrong with it. Our family got to try this food truck since they came to my son's school event. I'm so happy we were able to try the food as the food was delicious. We ordered the bao buns. They were 2 for $7. We got the pork belly and fried chicken baos. They were full of flavor and the meat was juicy and crispy. We also ordered dumplings and vegetable egg rolls. I checked out Bonzai Boyz at the Arizona Bao & Chicken Wing Festival in Peoria. They have great reviews on Yelp so I was excited to check out this Filipino food truck. Since it's a food truck, service and ambiance aren't really part of the experience. So, I will focus on the food. Which, unfortunately, severely underwhelmed. Since this was a chicken wing festival, we went with their wings. They have a special sauce which has dragon in the name that we asked about and we were told wasn't spicy so we tried it out. They ended up being some of the worst wings I've had in a while. The only redeeming quality is that the wings are jumbo-sized which is always a plus. Unfortunately, they were undercooked. You could tell because the wings were oozing water which showed that they hadn't been cooked properly. Beyond that, the sauce wasn't good either. I love Asian sauces but this one didn't have any sweetness to it. It was a weird sauce. I was expecting a lot more from Bonzai Boyz. Maybe I caught them on a bad day. read more

I think the buns were left out which caused them to dry out. The braised pork was a major let down as it has no flavor, you can tell by the color of it. Really nice owner, answered my few questions and offered a couple suggestions. I went with the Teriyaki Chicken Bento. It was ok...the teriyaki sauce was really good and had a good kick to it. This food truck was at the Bao & Dumpling Festival. The line moved pretty quickly. They were nice. I ordered the 24 carat gold crab bao. The steamed bun was soft, a perfect little wrap for the delicious fried crab. All of the flavors complimented each other. Obvi the gold is for a little "razzle dazzle" but I do not care. It wasn't overly greasy or salty. 10/10 definitely would eat this again. At $12 it was a touch pricey for a single bao, but omgggg. It was amazing. The other bao that I got was the braised pork belly. This one was juicier, so it was a bit messier. Flavors were still on point. Steamed bun was perfect and I definitely love jalapeños with braised pork belly. So good. Between the 2 of them though, the crab bao was definitely the better one. Related but unrelated- this makes some bomb picnic food. So if you wanna be on a cute date and have something delicious, it's not too messy, super delish and it seems fitting to eat on a picnic blanket when it's like 75 degrees with a light breeze. Attended the AZ Asian Fried Chicken Festival yesterday which Bonzai Boyz was one of the food vendors. Their food looked better than any of the other trucks so we decided to give them a try. Waited in line for a couple minutes which gave us time to explore the menu. We ended up trying the Korean Fried Chicken Rice Bowl and had to try all 3 varieties of Bao Buns on the side. The food was really good all around. If you have the chance to eat here, the Chicken Kimchi Bao Bun was the best of the three we ordered, but both the Fried Shrimp and Pork Belly ones were also delicious as well. read more

I first tried this awesome food truck on recommendation from a friend several years ago. They came to the Gilbert food truck event every Friday. I had the pork belly bao buns and they were AMAZING! Such great flavor and so creative to use bao buns as a "taco". They are so well balanced and delicious. I just had their food again tonight. I got the fried rice with grilled chicken and my boyfriend got the Korean fried chicken bento box. We also got an order of crunchy rolls that comes with a sweet and sour sauce. All of the food was piping hot and had great flavor! The fried rice was a good portion with lots of chicken -- I have leftovers! The Korean fried chicken was tasty and the breading had a great consistency. The rolls were delicious although I would have liked a little more veggies in them. Great food! The only thing is they are pretty small so I wouldn't expect it to be a meal, but it is a great snack. We also got the potstickers which I wouldn't recommend. Had Bonzai Boyz at a school concert tonight. Excellent fried rice and crispy pork belly. Yummy. Some of the best fried rice I've had in a long time. My son, who recently gave up eating mammals in favor of fish and shellfish, happily took my leftovers after watching me eat. After making a vain attempt at resisting the crispy pork belly in the fried rice, he declared, "poor piggy", and ate it all, lol. Bonsai Boyz needs a full brick and mortar restaurant. I've seen this food truck around the valley and finally got to try it at the Power Food Trucks on a Saturday night. Bonsai boys was an easy choice among the other trucks because the smell they were emitting made my husband and I stop and drool. We got fried rice with pork belly which was SO tasty and perfectly cooked. Also got a bento plate with fried chicken that had a delicious, slightly spicy sauce. The salad had a light and refreshing sesame dressing. The dragon wing which appeared dry and hard was quite the surprise with a juicy inside and slightly lemony flavor. Would get a side order of those next time. Three guys were working the truck. All were friendly giving a head nod and smile. The park was busy so we snagged a table as soon as we saw one available. To our pleasant surprise, the man who took the order got out of the truck and walked over to personally hand us our food with utensils. We expected for them to shout our name like the rest of the trucks. I missed out on them with their first visit to my work's business complex over the summer. I was so excited to learn that they were coming back! It was everything I had hoped for. I ended up ordering 2 bao buns with 1 Korean fried chicken and 1 pork belly and potstickers. The bao buns were so perfectly soft and fluffy. We had the opportunity to partake of their food at the last Ahwatukee Eats event this past Friday. After looking at menus at several other trucks, we chose these guys and we are so glad we did! I had the veggie fried rice and an order of five Dragon Wings (mix of original and lemon pepper) and wife had the bento box with Korean Fried Chicken. And we ordered potstickers because we love them! The bento box was fabulous! It came with a green salad, the best chicken she's tasted in a long time...has kimchee mixed into it. It wasn't over the top hot but just had a great flavor and the sauce they mix into the chicken was silky, creamy and flavorful. The veggie rice was perfectly seasoned and loved the char on the mixed veggies. And the Dragon Wings...great, crispy crust and tender, juicy chicken inside. The lemon pepper added a nice burst of salt and flavor! The potstickers were lightly fried and the filling was tasty and juicy. Didn't need the sauce! Portion sizes were huge and more than enough to share. Price wise...typical food truck prices, and nothing over the top! Started with 1 order (2pc) pork belly bao and a small order (3pc) of the hottest dragon wings. I think most people would feel these are quite spicy. They had big things going on flavor-wise. Shit was complex and very crunchy, in the best way. Fried perfectly. The bao had all the things I love about manapua (char siu bao) with the addition of a spicy, tangy, pickley vegetable topping served with a fresh lime wedge. I'm going to have to keep track of this truck from now on, as I will be requiring more of these in the future. I actually needed to go back and pick up 2 more orders of the bao. Jon was super easy and helpful to work with - helping me on food choices and amount for a party of approx 150 people. They arrived ahead of time and had everything ready right in time for the party. Guests said "Best food of all the grad parties we've been to," "Where did you find these guys?" We had some leftovers and Jon gave us to-go boxes and guests got to leave with a little extra gift. They were incredibly busy but even with the amount of people they were serving, the staff was so friendly. My personal favorite was the crunchy shrimp bao. The shrimp was very flavorful and had a great crunch to it. The Korean fried chicken bao was amazing as well. My girlfriend had the pork potstickers and she enjoyed them a lot. Man these guys bring the flavor! I ordered a few times with uber eats and each time I was super impressed with their food and service. The first time was late at night and they were actually out of some of the items I ordered, but they were kind enough to call me to let me know they were out and apologize, as well as inform me when they would be cooking up some goodies again. Good communication is important! Next we got the the pork belly bao, house spicy chicken bento, and crab rangoons (they threw in some potstickers and donuts for us too, TYVM!) the pork belly was out of this world! Super flavorful, tender, cooked to perfection. So good! The House spicy chicken was also packed with amazing flavor, throwing in a spicy kick. Pretty hot but not overwhelming or distracting from the flavor. Crab puffs were stuffed with fresh delicious crab and a tasty sweet chili sauce to compliment. You can't find better! The potstickers were better than others I've tried and the donuts were a fluffy sweet finish to the meal with some chocolate and caramel dipping sauces. Super impressed! Finally, ordered again the next day because it was so good, got the bao and rangoons again and they were in too if it getting the order to us super quick. Everything exceeded expectations yet again! Kids meal with teriyaki chicken was scrumptious, bao buns were a huge hit with our 13yo. They're like a taco and the fried chicken was our favorite, though the pork belly gets high marks.
