Finally made it to Booby's after numerous folks from Illinois told me that they serve the best steak sandwich in Chicagoland. Uhg. The trip was a total letdown. The steak sandwich was $9.95 and came with piss poor krinkle fries and ultrasweet coleslaw. The steak sandwich looked excellent upon first glance, so I was excited. The bun was very good and fresh. The ribeye was awful. Can you say "shoe leather" ??? No flavor. None. I let my doggie eat the rest. I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and walk right back in, plop down 10 more bucks and order it medium rare. It was no use. The steak was thin, tough, and served in a watery BBQ sauce. I just had the best gyros sandwich I have ever had!!! I read another review that said "the gyro was only so so. Not much carmelization on the meat and kind of toned down on the spice". To each his own... But, I think that is exactly why I liked it. I could actually taste the meat instead of the seasoning, and I realized I'm so used to eating dried out gyros that I didn't realize what a good gyros tastes like (hint, hint, West of Edens in Skokie and Nick's in Chicago -- just S on Milwaukee Ave). They also do something to the pita bread (forgive me if that's not the proper term); they put oil (think) on it and must grill it for just a bit. That also added to the 'yumminess'. I grew up near Booby's but hadn't been back in years. I will definitely be back. As to the staff (read some comments), they were fine. Greeted me, not chatty but not rude -- except 1 guy (related to the owner) -- very pleasant/courteous. I was 'strong' and only ate 1/2 of my sandwich. I can not wait to have the other 1/2. I grew up around this place. I would ride my bike here all the time. They had great food and the same old crust bag would be behind the counter. That was before the fire and they rebuilt it to meet code. You know, greek lightning! The food is good. The ribs and beef and the 1/2 baked chickens. I had the Grecian chicken dish and a chocolate malt. The chicken was slathered with a thickish sauce, and I wasn't expecting that. In its favor, it was very tender. I just wasn't wild about the sauce. The malt was pretty average. All in all, the meal was very filling, though I walk away with no real opinion of it either way. I have ordered from Boobys in the past; good food, decent customer service, except for today. We work at a hospital where things aren't as quick to get to as they used to be. We placed our order and the driver called the unit and said he was in the lobby. I left the unit to meet him, he called the unit while I was gone once (in a matter of minutes and was extremely rude) and as I was heading down to meet him, the staff at the front door said he took off and couldn't wait for 5 min for me to walk down to the lobby? I called the restaurant and was told they don't have the man power to send it back. What? your driver couldn't wait 5 min? That they would remake and send the food in an hour after we had been waiting for it for an hour. We declined. The owner called back and apologized for the driver. Its a shame that during this pandemic that places wouldn't be thankful that they are still getting business and be courteous and grateful that they are still getting orders. After reading many reviews, seems this place lacks customer service and clearly doesn't care to keep business. We will not ever place an order here again and pass it onto other units to not waste their time. They are rude and ignorant to their customers. read more

I was a steady customer of Booby's for several years and thought they provided a good deal and quality food. I live in the City of Chicago and thought the trip was well worth it. NOT ANYMORE!! I am really disappointed and will NOT be going back. My recent order amounted to over $27. That was a $6 increase form the last time I ordered. when I got my steak sandwich I noticed the bread size was smaller and the steak was smaller to match. The quality was also bad. Way to much FAT!! The Gyros plate also disappointed. The used to to give you a lot of meat and now the meat is equal to that of a Gyros sandwich. I should have ordered the sandwich. They have no business charging that much for such a chewy and fatty piece "steak" even if it dos come with Campbel's soup and fries. I've never finished a whole meal here. Granted, that usually involves downing a salad, fries, and a full slab of ribs or a steak sandwich, but that's irrelevant. This place isn't anything particularly special, but I have to give it two thumbs up for their steak sauce along. My husband would agree but for a quasi -vegetarian like me, (I eat chicken and fish), I LOVE the ceaser salad topped with egg and hot chicken off the grill. Amazing! The charcoal chicken breast sandwich was absolutely delicious! Fat tomato slices, real mayo, and green lettuce. The chicken was juicy and had that awesome charcoal-grilled taste. The fries are nothing to write home about, but it didn't affect my rating of this establishment. Booby's is a local legend and I'd eat there again ANYTIME. This place has good food for local spot. I ve had their parmesan chicken sandwich couple of times and it's average, however their gyro is absolutely fantastic! Pita bread is soft and meat is crispy but not dry, very delicious. My husband loves their ribs and he won't get that from anywhere so it must be good. The place is always clean and they have convenient parking right in the front. Have been coming here for couple of years and definitely will be coming back again. Will try some of their other things on the menu again since it's been a while but so far I ve never been disappointed. read more

Hungry at work... What to do? Order on yelp! I have driven by lots of times but never stopped. Order the corned beef, coleslaw and cheese fries. Love the coleslaw and the sandwich was good. definitely did not order the right thing when i came here! i ordered a gyros sandwhich with fries, the gyro was tasty and the fries were delicious, skinny and crunchy, just the way i like it. they had ketchup and BBQ sauce, but it tasted more like a mixture of ketchup and BBQ, well whatever it was it was yummy. next time i'll try their ribs or skirt steak and i will definitely try their shakes! read more

So I was across the street at Homeowner's Heating Supplies (buying parts for my furnace, ugh!) and I noticed they had Gyros which I had been craving for so I had some to go. The Gyro Dinner was good nothing mindblowing but a generous portion of meat but only one piece of pita bread (not enough) it came with two sides. I had the cream of chicken soup (tasty) and the crinkled fries (crispy and good). All for under $8, not bad at all. Next time, I will try the steak sandwich it seems to be all the rave!! read more

Booby's claim to fame is their steak sandwich. Of course when I discovered this, I had to place my order and try it myself. My anticipation builds but I am slightly taken aback when it is presented to me. When I go to the counter to pick it up, I see it's rather plain looking. My mind wonders what the deal is. With an open heart, I return to my table and chow down. Any disappointment was immediately taken away as I continued to eat away at this delicious sandwich! Despite it's simple look, the taste and heartiness is surely there. The gyros are solid as well. The pita is buttery and flaky which adds a nice complement to the pile of gyro meat and thick tzatziki. I'm excited to come back and eat everything else they have to offer. read more

I would do a 3 and a half stars and my nephew and husband would be at 4.25 stars (native Chicagoans). Let me start by saying that my 3.5 stars are strictly based off of my preference of steak and I am SUPER picky about steak. All 3 of us ordered the steak sandwiches which come with 2 sides for $10.45 each. MY husband and nephew got soup and fries while I got the salad and fries. Definitely wish I would have got the soup. There was navy bean and cream of chicken, both which were YUMM-O! My salad was a little pathetic with a mushy tomato. Once we got our sandwiches the meat had a great smoked flavor but was a little too marbled for me in some places. My husband and nephew thinks booby's is the cat's pajamas!! Booby's is a Niles institution. Have a Big Boob or a Steak Sandwich and fries - tasty, filling, and inexpensive. You order and pay at the counter, so it's good food that you get fast, but it's not "fast food." It's worth it to come here just to listen as they call out your order to the kitchen. read more
