Staff is rude. They don't honor their coupons. Every time I go there, there's some reason why they can't. You can't use THEIR discount card on certain sandwiches even though the coupon say ANY sandwich. They're coupon can be "expired" with no expiration date. Food is ok - but there's a wait no matter how slow they are. Did I mention the staff is rude as hell?? Yeah- never eating at this location again. Placed an order with Grubhub, so this is more of a review on them as a vendor of the restaurant. 2 hours after ordering I contacted Grubhub and told them the order never came. I received updates saying the food was on the way and also that the food was delivered, but it wasn't. Grubhub said it was the restaurant's error and that they'd given the order to the wrong driver. But their driver didn't even notice...... This is the 2nd time this exact thing has happened in 3 weeks. Wanted to warn future customers that if you order delivery, there's a 66% chance you won't receive it. The restaurant needs to reprimand their vendor because Grubhub is making them look terrible. read more

This deli was located right at the busy corner across from the Mezza Galleria. The menu was mostly sandwiches, soups and salads. I ordered the chili and a pasta salad- they were both just ok. The chili was meaty and tomatoey. It was definitely on the oily side. The pasta salad was a side and it was plentiful. We were able to sit in that area even though it looked like another restaurant - a make-your-own yogurt place. The yogurt machine was quite a popular thing, they were getting good traffic in there. I just recently moved back to DC after several years on the west coast and i was interested to try this old NW institution to see how it held up. i think i actually had my first "date" here in junior high, back when there was a subway restaurant style sandwich making line and a MUCH, MUCH bigger and more creative list of sandwich options. well... after so many years away, when i came again it was at the same location but much as seemed to have changed. introduction of frozen yogurt (no thanks) and a much more limited sandwich menu. not having much to choose from i opted for the "italian sub". i must say it was very good. nice, very fresh bread (way better than you get at the subways of the world), and good cold cuts. my only critique would be that the sandwich was a little heavy on the mayo, but that's really nitpicking. all-in-all i was happy with my meal. so... in the end, i don't think this place rises quite to the level of potbelly for this food service category, but it is way better than subway or quiznos, and a much better value that the much hyped (but overrated in my opinion) Jetty's. solid, but not remarkable. would come again, but wouldn't go out of my way to do so. also, i have to dock them stars for trimming down the menu options from the offerings they had circa 1990... after all, you can't f*ck with a man's memories and get away with it, right? 3.5 stars rounded down to 3. read more

A truly disappointing lunch at Booeymonger. Here's the rundown: 1. The Duke. Tasty combo of flavors, but built badly. Who makes a hot steak and cheese sandwich and puts the cheese side down on top of lettuce? The entire thing collapsed on me and I ended up eating it with a fork and knife. It also arrived soggy, not a plus. 2. Chicken salad. Fine but by no means a special experience. 3. Cottage cheese. Had something in it that was not cottage cheese. 4. Tortellini salad. Almost entirely unseasoned and un-dressed. Basically a cup of plain pasta. 5. Broccoli salad. Decent but over-dressed. The place itself could be cleaner, the bathroom needs repair work (wall cracks, cheap fixes, etc.). I JUST had the fro-yo, so dont read on if you want to know about the food. the fro-yo was good, pretty common as far as the self serve type, i did like that there were a ton of flavor options, and you move through the line really quickly. like some other reviewers i also noticed that not all the fruit was fresh, nor was it cut very well, it was nice that it had such a huge selection to choose from though, unlike a lot of its competitors. it was also quite messy, which i guess can be excused because we were there ona super busy day due to the 100+ heat. like someone else said, dont go too crazy or you'll pay for all the yogurt and fruit you piled on! it goes by weight for pricing. i did notice that we got a lot more for our money than at berry cup in rockville, which was nice. read more

Wow, tough crowd on Yelp! for this place, but I notice a lot of people do not seem to be rating the Booeymonger but the fro yo place next to the Booeymonger. They do sort of share a space (you can walk from one to the other inside) but they are not the same. The fro yo place is FroZen Yo and has no relation to the Booeymonger, so Yelpers, ignore those reviews. As for the Booeymonger, what a wonderful, inexpensive sandwich place. The prices are great for the area and the portions are huge. The sandwiches are all delicious, but I have to give a special shout out to the Gatsby Arrow, which has possibly the best melted brie cheese in D.C. Fountain sodas are ridiculously inexpensive and the cashiers are quick and friendly. Dinging it one star for the ambiance, which is, to be generous generic. It's not really a comfortable place to spend a lot of time, but for a quick and delicious sandwich you've found your spot. Also have to shout out to their fries. So delicious! read more

All were pretty good but since I'm from California, I think all sandwiches are better than the junk delis we have out west. I thought the alfalfa sprouts were a nice touch. The first time I came here was several years ago when I was still in college, and I remember not having a great impression of it. However, I've been here several times in the past few months, and now I don't know what I was thinking way back when. The atmosphere is that of a nice, neighborhood café, with plenty of seating and even an indoor/outdoor patio (they open up the windows when the weather is nice to make it essentially an outdoor patio). The food is also excellent - I have not had anything here that I didn't like, and I've tried quite a few different things. You can't go wrong with any of their hot sandwiches and a side of potato wedges. The service is also consistently top notch. Really, it's the service combined with all of the little things that really make Booeymonger a rare find. Self-service coffee and hot water (even though I don't drink coffee, someone I'm with usually does), individual utensil dispensers (providing greater assurance that the utensils are actually clean) with high quality plastic utensils (not flimsy, fragile ones like most places), and tons of awesome dessert choices (cakes, shakes, frozen yogurt, etc.) really make this place stand out. They're also the only place I've seen that doesn't prompt you for a tip when you sign your credit card slip, though this kind of thing probably only matters to a nerd like me. But the best part of all? They're open LATE (midnight Sunday-Thursday and 1 AM on Friday-Saturday). I've never found any other place quite like Booeymonger - it may not be flashy or trendy, but it never disappoints! read more

In theory, this place is awesome. In practice, this weird thing keeps happening when I eat there. I don't know what they have in their food but my mouth starts to feel chalky. This has never happened to me anywhere else, even eating the same/similar foods. It's the oddest thing, and it's going to keep me from coming back. Well...assuming that isn't an issue for you....the first time I had the Ahi Tuna Salad. It was really good and I haven't been able to find any comparable salad from another lunch spot (Hello, Panera?) since then. Which sucks. This last time I had 'The Natural' sandwich. I didn't really like it, and it seemed like something you can make at home -- there wasn't really any standout flavor to it. Good non-national chain place to get a sandwich quickly, if you're into that like me. They are pretty good with customizing any of their sandwiches. Daily special is usually a good, fresh deal. I had a big lightly fried tilapia sandwich with fries (that I swapped out for chickpea salad) for 8.50 once. Only con is that once they refused to serve my friend beer because he hadn't gotten his license changed to horizontal, even after producing multiple forms. Also, the manager can be seen yelling at the register workers in full view of customers. I feel bad for them! Maybe this is old news, but I discovered last night that Booeymonger sells draft beer for $1 (I think it comes out to something like $1.10 with tax). It's not the best beer. I think they only have Bud and Michelob. But $1 still seems insanely cheap. And there's something novel and fun about drinking in a brightly lit restaurant rather than in the usual imbibing place of a darkened bar. I also love their bagels, particularly the granola and chocolate chip. My only complaint is that they always run out of these. If these varieties are so popular, it would seem like they'd make arrangements to have more in stock. But overall, I'm a happy Booeymonger's customer and highly recommend it to anybody. I really thought it was something you couldn't mess up, but the chicken salad had so much mayo that it ran down the sides. I might get a decent portion today and tomorrow I get a kids portion of potatoes. -Their prices have gone WAY up. I get that you're running a business but charging .50 cents to smear butter on toast is a bit much. -I'm somewhat concerned that the cooks are on their cell phones and taking orders at the registers and then making food without washing their hands. My fiancé and I visited Booeymonger in Friendship heights for frozen yogurt and were less than impressed. The frozen yogurt itself tastes a little off. I had the traditional tart and the chocolate and my fiancé had the traditional tart, all of which tasted bland and kind of grainy. For a supposedly "quality" place, they provided high fructose corn syrup flavoring for the French Toast for my daughter. They gave my dad a dried turkey/dried bread slices sandwich. They gave my son a bacon cheeseburger that had no flavor at all. I made the same mistake but ordered my bacon cheeseburger rare and they cooked it well. I brought it back and they made a new one....medium. I didn't finish my bacon cheeseburger either...no flavor, and they can't cook. This place was a waste of $50 for lunch for 4.
