The first time I realized this was when there were literally dry pieces of chicken in the box. Half the point of Korean chicken is the delicious sauce! Today we drove from Staten Island to Jersey buy take out lunch at Boom Boom Chicken. Upon arrival I was told there were no drumsticks. I then decided to buy a chicken wing large order ($24.99) and two-2 CHICKEN BREASTS, as one person in my family doesn't eat wings. I was charged $5.00 for the chicken breasts. Though this is one of the best places to get KFC in New Jersey, it's far from anything special. Though I do love Korean Fried Chicken on any given day, this place could improve in some areas. For starters, their soy garlic had a flavor different than what I was anticipating; most places do it so that it's a perfect balance between sweet and garlicky, but it was way too sweet and easy to get tired of. Their spicy was better, but could definitely be more potent. The quality of the fried chicken itself is perfect; it's crispy, the pieces are large, and cooked to juicy perfection. I also really like the side radishes here, which were super fresh and crunchy. The sauces are the only things I found in need of improvement. The service was nice, and the place was clean and spacious. A friend recommended this place, and I've been meaning to try it out. I went in and realized that like many Asian restaurants these days, their dining room area is closed and blocked off. Why I don't know, covid is over. So I had to eat in my car as I was working in the area. Not my first choice to eat fried chicken in a car. But ok. I ordered five pieces (smaller wings and drumsticks) of their mild fried chicken. They also have medium and spicy. It came with rice and a green salad for about $10. This was absolutely the best tasting and crispiest (panko coating, I think) fried chicken ever! It has a little pool of soy-based dipping sauce, which adds to the flavor considerably. Plenty of moist meat on these bones, and even the white rice was excellent - not sure how they made it, but I'm not a big rice eater and I really enjoyed this rice. The salad and dressing were good as well. I've heard that these places supply you with a single PVC disposable glove, to hold the chicken which would be a good idea. But I didn't get one here. Still the best chicken I've eaten. Not the all time greatest health food obviously but once in a while...why not? I'll be back! RANT WARNING - The only thing I found a bit annoying and ironic, was a small PC at the counter optionally used for placing your order in the store, rather than simply speaking to the cashier. I couldn't help but notice that the ubiquitous tip jar is prominently placed next to this self ordering station. I don't understand the expectation of tips in a place that is strictly take-out, especially when they are encouraging customers to even place their own orders. So you want a tip for taking my money? Is this for the kitchen staff? Aren't they paid fairly? Businesses need to stop begging and guilting customers for even more money simply for ringing their order. Pay your employees fairly, if that is an issue. So many places today have either a tip jar with large bills strategically placed to encourage customers to tip $10 or even $20 for providing little to no service. Or in other places there is a card payment system with on-screen tip "suggestions" starting at 20%, 25%, and even 30%! For take-out! Boom Boom Chicken has some crispy, sticky, spot on Korean fried chicken. It comes in mild sweet soy or spicy sweet chili. With food served fresh and hot and the affordable price point, its a great option for a quasi fast food meal. You order at the front counter, give your name, and 10 minutes later you have delicious fried chicken. The staff are fast, polite, and on top of things. It feels a bit like a family business, but I don't know enough about them to know if that's true. Decor is cute. The big front windows let in a lot of natural light and the decor and furniture are nice. The restaurant seats 36, with one large communal table. While there was no line at 1 pm on Sunday afternoon, I still wouldn't recommend bringing a group larger than 10 people as the space may be tight. Bathrooms are clean, but there is only one. The space is casual enough for a fast meal, but nice enough for bringing grandma without making her think you're at KFC. Everything is super bright and clean. The food is great, with the namesake boom boom chicken being the bomb. You can get boxes or plates with salads, french fries, or rice. They have edamame and dumplings and pickled daikon if you're looking for more variety in the sides. The $7 lunch special gets you quite a good amount of food and I think its a great deal. Some minor notes - my salad was super over dressed, please take it easy. The spicy sauce is more medium than nuclear, so don't be shy. I'd love to see an even hotter sauce on the menu! read more

A casual place for some tasty Korean fried chicken. We paid $20 for 20 wings, half mild and half spicy (but ended up getting 23!) The spicy was not immediately tear-jerking as expected, but the heat accumulated over time, akin to a slow roasting of your taste buds over a small bonfire until your lips are tingling and your tongue is numb. The mild had no spice at all, but the soy garlic flavor really came through. The skin was very crispy, but easily separated from the meat, so that while the skin was flavorful, the meat was a bit bland. There also wasn't enough sauce to dip the bland parts in. There are only two kinds of chicken you can get (wings or drumsticks), and two kinds of sauces (mild or spicy). While some may prefer a greater variety of flavor options, my indecisive self was very grateful that the menu wasn't overwhelming and I could make a decision in a reasonable amount of time. In comparison to Bonchon, another Korean fried chicken restaurant in the area, Boom Boom is cheaper and has a more casual atmosphere; Bonchon is dine-in. Boom Boom is a local favorite Korean chicken spot of mine. Is it as good as some k-town spots? No. But is it as good as it can get in Edison? Yes. I do think Boom Boom is kind of pricey, but I do think that when the Korean fried chicken craving hits, you have to answer it. I prefer the wing only orders as opposed to getting the larger pieces of breast/thigh/wing. I think you get better crispiness with more of that flavorful sauce they toss the wings in. Rice is extra unless you are ordering a lunch meal, or box of some sort. I don't usually go there for anything else other than the chicken wings. They do come with a side order of pickled daikon (YUMM) but they also serve up some really awesome crispy fries too if you are looking for an extra side.
