We did a quick Yelp search for nearby places to eat that were open late and stumbled upon this place. It was the first time we ever heard of Korean fried chicken and we definitely not disappointed. The staff was extremely friendly and even told us a little about their restaurant and how their chicken is fried, etc. We ended up ordering a ton of chicken and a side of fries and sat tight outside nearby on a bench. We were amazed at how CRISPY their chicken was and let's be honest, good FRIED chicken requires a CRUNCH!! Their fries were eve amazing, so well seasoned and fresh. They have a great $8 lunch special (5 pc chicken, fries or rice, and salad). Or you can buy a box of chicken (9 pc for $14 or 16 pc for $23) and choose between soy garlic and/or spicy sauce, which are both tasty. There's usually an assortment of wingettes, drummettes and drumsticks. All really crispy and served hot! It takes them around 20 minutes to fry up the chicken when they're not busy. Went here for weekday lunch special, they were $7.99 but now $9.99, however with different options! So I got their popcorn chicken in soy garlic & thought it was going to be a small serving compared to the 5 pcz wings. But when I saw it I was happy! But because it was closed for a bit in the paper container some chickens got soggy. Included are 2 sides & you can double up on one that you really like. I think one star off just because of the container causing sogginess. Otherwise I'd advise to patiently order in person & eat them fresh! read more

COVID REVIEW I heard about this place from a friend who said it was the best KFC in the area so I for sure had to try it to find out. She really wasn't kidding this place is so damn good. I ordered To-Go and picked up a few orders of the mixed wings, arms, and drumsticks (what is arms???). We each got a spice level that we preferred and aside. The only issue that I had with this place was that the food was ready earlier than expected. This really isn't a problem when you are at the restaurant but when you are doing To-Go and you are timing the food for a specific time I would at least expect it to be somewhere near the time window, but no it was around 10-15 minutes early. So when we finally did pick up the chicken and were ready to eat but the chicken was already a bit soggy and warm rather than hot. But that did not change how good it was. The sauce was great, the chicken was juicy, and the texture was still kinda there but if it were fresher I could see it being even better. This is also the only KFC place that I've seen that does the whole drumstick which I really appreciate and enjoy! Another slight issue was my side which was the coleslaw which tasted bitter and stale, but that was okay because this chicken, even though it wasn't fresh, was so good I still had to give it 5 stars and I am for sure coming back. read more

We had seen boom boom chicken the last time we visited Jersey and they had already closed for the evening. We vowed to come back and try it out on our next trip. In him glad we did. The lady inside the door taking orders was very sweet and personable. She told us about a dinner special that wasn't on the menu in it sounded great so we took it. After placing our order she told us to come back in about 15 minutes when it will be done. Sure enough, our food was ready to go on time. We didn't think that it would be such a hefty plate, but when we opened the containers in our hotel, we were pleasantly surprised. It was 5 or 6 pieces of chicken with white rice and a salad, all for $10. The chicken was huge and smelled heavenly! The rice was fluffy and tasty, complementing the flavour of the soy garlic chicken. Gladly there was food leftover ( yay breakfast!) We didn't want it to end. Not sure if they are under new management, I believe the previous people were of Korean descent. But the current people are less accommodating. The flavor comes from the sauce but the wings are drier than usual. Even when requesting for extra sauce on the wings it does not make a difference. When we picked our order up we took it back to ask for sauce either on it or on the side but the people wouldn't even adhere to our request. If I could give the "new" Boom Boom chicken a zero I would. When they first opened, my husband and I took a chance - having never had Korean fried chicken before, and let me tell you... WE WERE HOOKED!!! Juicy, tender, all the yummy ways to describe it, we did. Yesterday we ordered after having not done so for a while and as we were looking through their menu - we noticed they had two options that weren't available before "boneless" and "gluten-free". Because I've recently changed to a mainly GF way of eating and usually prefer boneless wings, we decided to give them a try. When our order arrived, we were shocked to find that the "boneless wings" were basically cubes of chicken (no breading) that looked, felt, and tasted like they were cooked five hours too long, they were so dry we could barely even chew threw them. Completely inedible. I called to let Boom Boom Chicken know - explained the situation to the girl who picked up who put me on hold, and then spoke with someone who I suppose (in some alternative universe) was a "manager". I repeated the situation to her to be met with a complete lack of professionalism and common sense. Her response was basically that they made what I ordered and then went on to tell me that "gluten-free means dry". (WHAT?!?) When I went on to explain to her that gluten-free absolutely does NOT mean dry, I let her know that they should really indicate on their website that it's a completely different product than what they usually make - at which point she repeated that they "only made what I ordered". While we used to be a fan of Boom Boom Chicken - I don't know what happened but it's by no means the same place. My thinking is if you don't offer gluten-free (or don't even know what that means) you probably shouldn't have it on the menu. If you're looking for a place that makes wings (boneless or traditional) a thousand times better than Boom Boom Chicken and with MUCH better service - do yourself a favor and go to Buffalo's Chicken in Wood-Ridge. And "new" Boom Boom Chicken, please note that being rude and ignorant to your customers is not going to help you last long. read more

Love korean fried chicken and was so glad to see that there was one in rutherford since I would always have to drive to fort lee to get it. Decided to finally stop in last night to get some food. I got the 12 piece soy garlic mild wings with radish and it was absolutely delicious. Finished it all on my own and still wanted more. Could be a little bit pricey compared to other fried chicken places but it's worth it. Beats KFC or Popeyes by a long shot. Haven't tried anything else on their menu yet but will definitely be coming back for more. I came here on a friday for lunch. We called ahead with our order, and they had it ready on time for us. I have had Bon Chon before and it is similar. I do like Bon CHon better which is why i'm giving it a 4 and not a 5. However, it is still extremely good. The food also did not disappoint and satisfied my KFC craving. I appreciated that the flavors weren't too salty, which I've experienced at other KFC places, but they were still the right amount of savory! Don't be fooled by the small box; the chicken was plentiful and overflowing. It really is amazing how much chicken they fit in the box! The sides were yummy and complemented the chicken perfectly. The spicy chicken hasn't enough sweetness, and using big chicken legs is not a great way to infuse the flavor. The coleslaw is vinegary, no cream. The fries are good. The onion rings aren't quite up to par. Rice for $1 a carton. I My one complaint is that their portion sizes and their corn salad aren't my favorite. I never get the medium size because they give you one large drumstick and the rest in the TINIEST drumstick they could find. The portions are so out of whack. I got 5 pieces of chicken, unfortunately you can't choose which types of chicken, its a mix of wings and thighs, salad, and a choice or steamed rice or French fries. I have only gotten takeout here so I can't comment about the dine in experience. I did see two tables or so, for dine in there. You have to call 20 mins before you pick it up because the chicken is made fresh to order.
