Drive-In restaurants, like Drive-In Movie Theaters have disappeared from the American landscape, but Boomer's keeps the memory alive while providing diners with far more burger variety than it's 50s and 60s predecessors. Who can resist a real drive-in restaurant? The kids sure couldn't. And to tell the truth, I wanted to go here just to get the deep-fried mushrooms I've been reading about and the kid wanted the toy cardboard car that the kid's meal came in. We ate inside the restaurant instead of inside the car as it was a cold day March day (March 25 to be exact) and we wanted to sit in front of the cozy round fire place. The kids got the kid's cheeseburger meal ($3.89) with milk shake ($3.34) and the combo burger meal with fries ($8.21) and I got the deep-fried mushroom ($3.99) and the fish burger ($5.19) Both were tasty. The mushrooms were not greasy at all, but perfectly breaded and done. The fish burger was surprising in that it was two separate fish sticks, not a whole fish patty as I'd expected. We were in town for about a month this past winter and found Boomer's during a late night food run. They were extremely busy and packed, since it was their anniversary month and their burgers were on sale for half off all month. The wait times can be long, but understandable since they were so busy, and you can't beat the price we got for the burgers. The employees were friendly and their food is really good. It's been a minute since I've been here and we just returned from 2 weeks in Asia so my hubby and I were craving burgers. Then Boomer's popped up so we ended up stopping by. We ordered a side of the Deep fried mushrooms $3.99, the boomer Combo #1 which consists of a boomer burger ( beef with American cheese) waffle fries and a strawberry milkshake and I opted for the Swiss mushroom burger, waffle fries and lemonade. All I can say is the mushrooms did not disappoint us but the burgers seem to be smaller than couple years ago if I'm correct? Hubby was starving so he demolished the whole thing but my swiss mushroom burger was caked in mayonnaise that I had to throw out half of the bun and lettuce. If I knew this was the case I'd just ordered a plain bun with mayonnaise and lettuce hold the meat! I wouldn't go out of my way to stop here, probably rather go to Fiamma burger across the way or even Red Robins for the price and quality as well as quantity. Friendly service, good parking, reasonable prices, the place itself has a cute vintage look with the drive thru option, wait time after ordering was about 10-15 minutes. I went with my boyfriend and my friend and we each got different things from the menu. I ordered what is pictured (teriyaki chicken burger, waffle fries, and an oero milkshake): PROS: burger, fries, and shake were pretty good quality I must say. Pretty tasty and a good convienent place to eat. But the fries were really good in my opinion. CONS: Burger was VERY soggy. They really overused the teriyaki sauce and ranch (other sauce seemed like ranch, but not sure). The burger made such a mess it was a bit ridiculous, even the wrapper it came in ended up being soaked from all the sauce. Probably could've made a whole other burger with all the sauce that dripped out. On the other hand, the shake was so thick in the beginning that I couldn't get anything the first 10 mins of receiving it (lowkey think it was also the small straw they provided). My boyfriend got the mushroom swiss burger and onion rings: PROS: good for the price. CONS: Burnt patty on the burger and too much batter on the onion rings. My friend got the classic Caesar salad: PROS: good portion size for the price. CONS: SOGGY. She couldn't even eat most of the croutons because of how soggy they were, it seemed like it was sitting out for awhile to be honest. I do think that Boomers a decent burger spot if you are craving a good one. The food there is very good in my opinion. Their hotdogs are not the most popular item on their menu, but they taste very good. Their burgers are also very good, their shakes taste amazing, and their fries, oh, their waffle fries. In my opinion, their fries are the defining point of their restaurant. The burgers are very high quality, and are definitely on the high end of the scale, and they are not to expensive! They have decent service, a couple of times I went there and was treated pretty badly. A couple of times, they were so rude, my friend said that he never wanted to eat there again, which is a pretty big deal if one if your customers does not want to ever go there again because of bad service from one of your employees. There are the occasional people that are nice to you, but a lot them are not too nice. So their hospitality is not too great. Their shakes are incredible! They may be a little thick, but the amazing flavor makes up for them. I think that the shakes are worth it, so I do recommend those. They have good flavors like Mint Oreo, Butterscotch, and a bunch of other ones. I do think that the shakes are on the higher end of the scale and that they are bringing up this review from something lower. They do not have the fastest service in my opinion. Once, I was famished, and they said it would not be long, and wouldn't you know, it took over twenty-five minutes for me to get my food, and by that time, I was in a bad mood since I was so hungry. So the waitresses was not helping things by having horrible service and hospitality. After all of that said, I do recommend Boomers on the occasion. I grew up on Boomers, so that's the only reason I couldn't bring myself to give them only one star. Well, that and the fact that their milkshakes are consistently good. My last couple of visits were pretty bad, though. Most recently, we got 3 burgers and they were all very burnt. Two of them were actually inedible and went right into the trash. We didn't complain at the time because we don't live very close and didn't realize until we were home. I did contact Boomers to let them know because I didn't want to leave a bad review (nostalgia, I guess) but thought it would be good for them to know. Boomers is consistently bad. I have gone to boomers several times, not once have I been impressed. The prices and convenience of it reels me in, but the terrible quality of food is now stopping me from ever coming again. From the fries being overcooked, to soggy, the completely seasonless patties, the underripe bananas used in my milkshake, the hair wedged in my waffle fries, the lukewarm food, I can no longer justify spending my money here. We love trips the most for the family time, but Boomer's was right up our alley. Vintage, nostalgic, and everything you used to love about burger joints just like this. With tip, we paid only 30 bucks. Got me the Big Boomer with a side of deep fried mushrooms, wife got the combo burger with waffle fries and a chocolate shake, kiddo got a corn dog with fries that they served with in a card board old caddilac serving tray, and even the dog got a special dog patty. Again, only 30 bucks with tip. In the comfort of our car, while being serenaded by a bunch of old juke box faves. . . We're big fans of Boomers normally. Their waffle fries and onion rings always hit the spot! Normally they're burgers and pretty good, especially for the price. However, we went today for dinner and the garden burger patty was completely different than before. It was gross, just cold, soggy, flavorless mush. At first I thought it was some sort of meat. We had takeout so we called in to see what happened and they said they would remake it for us. So despite already being home, we drove back to get the replacement burger. Which was the exact same. *facepalm*. Ended up eating some of it but it was just... not right. This is not normal for them. I'm not sure if they switched brands or something, but I hope they switch back. I also paid for 6 dipping sauces that they left out of my order the first time and when we went back for the burger and asked for them, they gave us 4/6. A long time Bellingham staple, we finally gave Boomer's a try. A traditional car service restaurant, we got prompt friendly service. Burgers are the main stock in trade here, and they do a pretty good job of them. Tasty bun and fixings. The burger itself is good, but not exceptional. Despite that small quibble, the food here is a good value and worth a try. I had the standard burger which has american cheese. My wife has the bacon and Seuss burger. She commented that she was disappointed that the bacon was not crispy and crunchy. Fries here are waffle style, which is a fun alternative to the usual. I did, bearly! Ordered the Big Boomer 1/2 pounder with cheese. It did take a good 20 minutes for them to make it. Opened up the burger and could see it was still very dry as it was previously. Bit into it, and yep, really dry meat. Had to dump some ketchup on it to make it through the hamburger. Even at the low price, it's still not worth it. I had hoped for better.
