We ordered 2 burgers and a milkshake for takeout. They said the order would take roughly 15-20 minutes which it did. The burger was great. I love the freshness of the veggies and the pickle just does its job of adding that acidity. The banana milkshake was super. They made it using fresh bananas and it was a thick shake which I love. This place is either a hit or a miss for me. I recently discovered their salads, and the first time I ordered one, I wanted to jump on Yelp and tell the world that Boomer's has an amazing salad. Unfortunately, every chicken taco salad I've ordered since then has been a disappointment. I love that you can customize exactly what you want to add--or leave off--your salad. At around $8, it's a great value. You get a ton of food, and it doesn't hurt that you can add extra romaine lettuce, tomatoes, and other toppings at no additional cost. However, I've come to realize that it all depends on who's preparing it. Bring back the person who made my first salad, because the last three have been so bad that I started to question whether I actually had a great taco salad at Boomer's in the first place. One salad was mostly romaine lettuce with very little of the other ingredients, even though I had requested extra of everything. They also forgot the tortilla strips and the salsa. Come on--it's not a taco salad without salsa! The other two salads I ordered barely had any chicken in them. If I didn't know better, I would have thought I had ordered a salad without chicken. Boomer's, do better and pay attention to the details. Consistency matters. This could have easily been a 4-star review if you had been consistent with the four taco salads I've ordered. The other photos in this review are from years ago when I thought burgers were the only thing worth ordering at Boomer's. Who knew they offered salads too?! First time visiting even though I have worked in Bham for years in the past. A lot of hype as well. Definitely a throw back to the drive up era. Decided to walk in instead of pulling into one of the many stalls. Limited seating inside as well as pretty warm for this almost 70 degree day. Ordered the BBQ burger,waffle fries and vanilla malt. Wife (been here before) loves their teriyaki burger, fries and malt. Also ordered some dep fried mushrooms. This is where the controversy begins. Hamburger wise, definitely below an In & Out or Dicks but above a McDonald's or BK. Enjoyed the waffle fries and the malt was spot on. Fried mushrooms were good (may have been the dipping sauce). I've heard amazing things but I like my burgers medium rare and my server said no medium rare so I didn't get a burger to great disappointment. Settled for shakes and waffle fries then went through McDonald's for burgers while no medium rare there either the patties are too thin to matter. As good as the waffle fries and shakes were at Boomers, I can't see going back especially since I live a good half hour away and rarely have business in the area. Whomever noted in their review that the burgers are made to order must not have wanted it medium rare! Such a shame. I feel like I'm being cheated out of good burger but there's plenty of places willing to cook me a medium rare burger. It was nice to experience the car hop situation. Inedible really, the burgers were gray and buns soggy- service was fine, our waiter was friendly and wasn't a crazy long wait. It's a pretty dated drive up but looks clean. First visit here since we don't normally eat this way. A tasty treat. Our 4 year old grandson drank an entire shake and ate a corn dog like there was no tomorrow. We ordered and were told 15 minutes for food prep and 14 minutes later the order was brought to the table. I was kind of saddened to see the very small amount of waffle fries; I had about 11 total; a few large--2 to 3 bites but mostly small one bite pieces. Boomers Drive-In has such delicious burgers, and the waffle fries are SO good When I first had my baby, this became one of my favorite spots. You park outside with other cars and they bring the food right to you, so it still feels like dining out while staying comfortable in your car. I love that you can relax and enjoy your food at your own pace. Prices are decent, and when they have their yearly anniversary burger deal, it's extremely cheap so definitely keep an eye out for that. We moved to Bellingham in 2018 and were so pleased to find the town still had a real, honest to goodness drive-in restaurant. Excellent. We went several times in our classic car for the whole drive-in, car delivery experience! Fun! During raining winter days it was nice to eat inside near the cozy fireplace. Even better, we discovered that once a year they held an event called "Boomuary" about a month long amount of time where all the burgers are sold for a flat fee. What could be better right? Great burgers on sale! Well, not actually. That was the beginning of the end for us. Too be fair, I know the demand is out the door during that time but the quality really slipped during Boomuary. Quantity outstripped quality. The burgers were either overcooked or undercooked, and regardless of that, they always seemed to arrive cold and the car or the table. We had really enjoyed the wonderfully textured waffle fries as well, but now they too also arrived cold. Giving Boomer's the benefit of the doubt, we came back on four separate occasions after that hoping to experience the Boomer's we had originally discovered only to find that overcooked burgers with a rim of carbon now seemed to be the norm, and like before, burgers and waffle fries arrived at our table, cold. This was sad, but I'd wager this is 'fast food' that has made the jump to 'rushed preparation' and the quality has suffered as result. Adding a star for the delicious strawberry milkshakes that have maintained the standard, but as far as a real drive-in burger joint, we're moving on. read more

It's a great little drive-in where you can either sit in your car or you can go into the restaurant and eat. I sat in my car because I had my dog. They hamburgers, hotdog, corn, dogs, curly fries, onion rings that are bomb deep-fried mushrooms that are amazing and all sorts of drive-in food that you wanna find at such an amazing reasonable price. The staff is very friendly courteous, and when they forgot part of my order. They were so nice and quick to correct it and so polite I would definitely recommend it and always go back again!! read more

Sadly the food quality and service has gone way, way downhill, I think the surprising popularity is from recommendations from people who remember it fondly in its heydey but either haven't been recently, or are giving the benefit of the doubt it's a temporary lull. After having been very disappointed 3 times in the past year, I'm not going to try again. (They also discontinued sweet potato fries and curly fries - some of the best items!) I don't think it's the fault of the staff - they are swamped and can't handle the volume of orders coming in from drive-ups, walk-ins, online, and call-ins. Last night I placed an order online, informed it would be ready 30-44 minutes later. Arrived at the designated time and discovered it jam-packed (I'm sure it's over capacity for health code, and I was one of only 3 masking) no clear indications where to go for online pickups (thank goodness for kind Bellinghamsters willing to be patient and help each other out). Shuffled around and waited ~20 minutes to even get to let them know I was there, then waited over an hour to finally get my food. When I finally got home over 2 hours after I placed the order, the fries were undercooked and completely cold, and my burger was dry and flavorless (lacking the extra sauce and single additional topping I'd requested and paid extra for). I had observed two people return incorrect orders while I was waiting. Don't waste your time here, you'll only be sorely disappointed. read more

I love Boomers. I like the old-fashioned drive-in theme. For me, eating at Boomers is about more than just the food. It is about the nostalgia, the attitude, the history. I like that they play "old" music that I listened to as a young person. I ate there yesterday. I got a Big Boom. The bun was a little mushy and the frozen patties were overcooked. It was perfect; exactly what I wanted. I savored every bite. Every year they have their annual "birthday sale". How can you not like that? Oh, by the way... they have the best milkshakes in town! I love these old style drive in's. Classic burgers, dogs, fries and shakes. I had the combo #1 with a chocolate shake and my wife had the same except with a guacamole burger and sweet potato fries. My son just had a shake (breakfast!). Service was fairly quick and friendly. I wish they used roller skates for the waiters/waitresses! That would be cool. The shakes are awesome and since they use hard ice cream, they come out very very thick. These were the thickest shakes I've ever had. Looking for a post game lunch for the team we decided to give the "best local burger joint" a try. It is a drive-in and has a decent sized dine in option as well. Walking in the place was not packed. Boy did we just beat the crowd because halfway through the meal the inside was packed and so was the drive in portion. Quickly decided to go with the Boomer burger along with just a plain cheeseburger and a shake. 1) Burger - was pretty good. Had a good ratio of meat-to-bun, veggies and sauce. 2) Shake - it was a good size of chocolate chip mint shake. My only suggestion would be for a larger straw. It was a bit of a challenge for the kids to use the standard straw and the chocolate chips constantly caused a clog in the skinny straws. The best part is they serve waffle fries! Who doesn't like hot and crispy waffle fries. I only wish they had some blue cheese to go on top of it. The staff was friendly, the dining room was clean and the food was served in a fairly quick turnaround. When in Bellingham and craving a burger, give this place a try. As a Yelper, I was initially hesitant to try this place due to the mixed reviews. However, 2 things that really sold me were the low prices and also that this place is always busy whenever I drive by. I pulled up to this quaint drive-in and was quickly greeted by staff that took my order, which came out within 15 minutes. Was it the most uniquely spectacular burger I've had? Not quite. Were the fries slightly colder than they should be? Maybe (it was also cold outside that day...) Was the total meal under $10 for a decent sized burger with fixings and fries? Yes. That final point is a real clincher, especially nowadays where it seems like you can't find a filling dish for less than $15 outside of fast food chain restaurants. I would encourage folks to try this place out. They have some great fries/burgers/milkshake combos and varieties, good burgers with flavorful fries, and a friendly staff. This will be one of my go-to places when I am craving the classic burger and fries combo in town. read more
